This is a rant about taxi drivers and BO There is something called Uber and there is something called Lyft. Its a personal choice to take a cab; maybe its also a choice if you have a phone can can't downlead an app. Lately when I have been in a cab it feels like the cab driver has a fried curry sandwhich and has not showered in a few days. These same people will tell you right away business is slow. I stepped into one of these cabs last week and the guy driving was from Jamaica. I myself eat alot of jerk chicken that I make myself but I dont know where to find the "jerk Chicken BO" cologne that this guy had. It was horrendous. I needed a shower right after. This sounds kind of extreme i know. But if you are a taxi driver please shower at least once or 2 times a day, try not to eat things that are soo spicy that it leaks from ever pore in your body, maybe clean the car once a week, and then once your car is clean and you dont wreak of last Sunday's chicken vindaloo that was overspiced with cayenne pepper and paprika then start to pick up passengers. This is a problem that plagues most cabs I have taken lately. read more

I was taken from O'Hare Airpot to Arlington Heights on 6/9/2026 in Yellow Cab #1160. This driver SHOULD NOT be employed to drive passengers anywhere, she is very dangerous. First off, the cab was a mess, and it looked like she lives in the vehicle with all of the bags she had loaded in the front passenger's seat. Also, she is too frail to even lift suitcases into the trunk of the car. Next, she is very hard of hearing, and had to constantly look at her phone to watch the GPS directions since she could not hear them. While leaving the airport exit, she was not paying attention to the road and had to slam on her brakes suddenly to avoid rear ending the car in front of us, subsequently causing a multiple vehicle accident. She was swerving all over the highway and could not stay in a lane. The air conditioning in the cab was broken (it was 90 degrees outside) and the car windows had to be rolled all the way down, which caused even more confusion when I was trying to direct her due to her being hard of hearing. When we arrived at my destination, she neglected to put the car into park and proceeded to begin to exit the vehicle as the car was rolling forward and missed rear-ending my neighbor's new BMW until I yelled, "your car isn't in park!" I am sure with Uber and Lyft it is very difficult to find drivers to drive for cab companies now, however this is outright absurd that this woman was hired to transport people (and likely families with young children) all over the Chicagoland area. Do the cab companies not have any kind of requirements or safety procedures the drivers must adhere to? I was lucky and got to my destination unscathed (barely), but if I hadn't been completely aware of how she was driving, she could have caused a serious accident or worse. I paid over $60 for this horrible experience, and reached out to the cab company letting them know about it... I am not holding my breath that I will get a response. read more

The meter displayed $33 but the driver said that I owed $45. When I asked why so much, he replied but I could not tell what he was saying. Also, he dropped me off about 8 blocks from my stated destination. I had to walk. So 1 star is fitting. I will not call this cab company again. read more

My husband takes gelcaps frequently to get around downtown where we live. We had called we had called a taxi and waited about 40 minutes for the taxi to come. However that was not the issue of waiting. Upon getting into taxi 1740 which is in fact a handicap taxi van. This individual upon waiting on my husband to goes on to state it I'm waiting on the old man. He continued to say disparaging things about all the people. I found this to be very disturbing and horrific given the fact that he operates a handicapped vehicle and who most often use a handicap vehicle older people. I Attempted to tell him you know your behavior towards older handicap people is just unacceptable given that this is what you do."Lady just pay me." His behavior and actions are in fact clearly discriminatory against the 1971 disability act. read more

I travel a bit for business and leisure. I usually take Uber or Lyft. And after my Yellow Cab ride I will keep supporting Uber and Lyft. I got a cab from O'Hare and it was a bad idea. The driver began to yell at me because his payment monitor didn't not advance correctly. He said I pushed the wrong buttons but he told me this in a screaming voice. I got really upset with him and said look we aren't far from the airport we can turn around and I will pay you and I get someone else to drive me because I'm not riding with you screaming at me. That was good for me because I don't do drama like that well. He calmed down and I felt like he was holding back from being his yelling rude self the whole ride. I didn't care as long as he didn't give me all that screaming and hollering. I said I will never take yellow cab again. It's sad. I grew up in the yellow cab era in Pittsburgh. I remember as a child riding in cabs with family and they had little jump seats in the back for carrying extra riders and it was perfect for kids. But those days are gone with good quality customer service. I wouldn't recommend a cab ride get Uber or Lyft or drive and park at the airport. read more

if I could give zero stars, I would! Absolute worst service we have had on our entire trip. The driver acted put off that we were asking for a cab ride from the airport to rosemont. Additionally, after looking online, he overcharged us. The website says airport travels to rosemont are meter charged only and he charged us an additional $5 (not the $4 listed on the website). He refused to get out and help us with luggage. As we were paying the driver was impatient and rude. Can drivers wonder why people would rather use Uber or lyft. I have never been treated like that in any mode of transportation. read more

Assaulted by driver of #490. Twenty minute drive took close to 90 as driver took me far from Lincoln Park. Stopped at light after drag racing, many people saw me. He then said "Bitch, plan change. Cab785 l was in Yellow Cab 00785 on 6/19/23 and was hit by said cab and knocked to the ground in front of 6045 W Grand Ave. I have a tap card, the the driver started to ask me how I was paying. I told him that I didn't want to take the expressway and told him the route I would like which he complained about. He got to my destination and I swiped my Tap card and it was declined. i still had rides on the card, and was about to call Tap to see what was going on when the cab driver started to scream at me at which time I said I was getting out of the cab. Then the cab grabbed my insulated grocery bag. I went around to the driver side to get my bag and his window was partially open and I started to pull it down, at which time he screamed I was going to break the window. He then put the car in gear and knocked me down to the streeT. He drove off and took a left on Mcvicker I went upstairs and saw that he was parked at Meade and Grand so I went back downstairs and after about ten minutes he pulled up in front of the building and I told him that the police were coming, he then through my groceries out of the passenger window to the ground. I told him the police were called and he drove off east down Grand. I have a witness as to what happened to me. Was seen by the paramedics and pumped on adrenaline declined medical treatment. I would have given nothing if I could have. Flights were canceled in Chicago due to weather. Our flight was rescheduled for the next morning. I called the night before for a 4 am pickup for the airport. They never showed up. When we called them at 4:05 they said they didn't know when they would get to us. We finally were able to share a cab with some other people. Thanks Yellow Cab for the worse taxi experience ever. Call an Uber or another taxi service. read more

I left my wallet in a Yellow on a Friday, and reported the lost wallet the next day via the lost and found the portal. As they weren't open I did leave a voicemail as well. Thursday of the following week I got a call and the employee, Patty, was nothing but kind and helpful. She could locate the cab as I did not know the cab number. I got in contact with the Cab driver and the Cab driver will be returning my wallet this evening. Uber would never come to my address to return a lost item. Patience is vital with Yellow Cab in Chicago. there are millions of people in Chicago who lose things daily. Worse company with horrible customer service. They confirmed a cab to take me to the airport and when the driver never showed up they told me he accidentally picked up someone else. By the way, it was 5am, and I'm the only one outside my hotel waiting. When I asked for a discount on my ride because of their error, the representative thought that because a new driver picked me up it was okay. He was very rude and offered no type of assistance due to their error. I will be also contacting my hotel to let them know how awful the the company they are recommending is and their lack of professionalism. Hilton should be embarrassed to be recommending such a company. On a positive note, the driver that actually drove me was a very nice gentleman he was cab 4304. read more

Very disappointed!!! I had an important workshop in a snow storm, which is why I ordered the cab HOURS ahead of time- at the last minute they texted to say cab wasn't en route and to call for status. When I called, they said my order "was not accepted." Excuse me?????? I understand weather emergencies, but why tell customers their orders are confirmed if it isn't true? I'm done!!! read more

If I'm going to bother calling ahead to reserve a cab to drive me 3 miles from my house, and they come 20 minutes late, it kind of defeats the point of calling ahead. What really gets me, is when you call to find out where your cab is, the answer is just "on its way." I think if they can't be there at the time scheduled, you should get a discount, or something. On the morning of Monday, March 16thright after 5am, I called Yellow Cab Co. at 312-829-4222 for a cab to pick me up from 1550 S. Blue Island (my site of employment) to take me to 727 W. Lake Street (home). I missed the ride because there was a last minute emergency at the building where I was working at that involved the police and the paramedics and I couldn't leave right away or call back to cancel or postpone because I was dealing with an issue. So a rep from Yellow Cab called me a few times, when I finally got a chance to answer I told them that I didn't need the ride anymore. Just as I was trying to explain what happed, the rep became very irate and profane saying "The least you could've did was fucking call back and cancel the fucking ride" then hung up. About five minutes later, I called back to confront that rep and to ask to speak to his supervisor about his etiquette. He said that he was the supervisor, so then I asked him to let me speak to the HIS superiors or whoever is over him. He said they weren't in, so then I asked "When will they be available because I need to speak to someone about your attitude". He asked "what is this about?", and I told him who I was and how unpleased I was with his demeanor. I asked for his name, which he never gave, instead he became irate again and then hung up. At that point I put in a complaint on the website's Complaint & Feedback page, but to this day no one ever followed up with me. Later on that afternoon I called again, and that time I spoke to a nonchalant female rep. She was suppose to have scheduled a cab to pick me up at 11:30 that night, but the cab never came and I ended up getting an Uber instead. My main reason for calling again that time was to see if I could get a supervisor on the phone (I perfer person-to-person contact over e-mail complaints that can easily get wrote off depending on management), but the reps that answer at this company never put me through to the right people as the female rep that answered this particular time said she was the supervisor as well. I'm just assuming that the phone reps have to have someone they answer to unless they own the company, which I sincerely doubt. I tried calling yesterday afternoon to schedule a ride for later on, but after five minutes they never answered, which is unusual for them as they never had me on hold that long before, so I just assumed that they made a note of my number and put me on their "do not serve" list. Another thing they do that I don't like, some of their reps (like the female rep from the last paragraph) are very adamant about you placing your last name for your order. Other cab companies just ask for your first name, but Yellow Cab makes an issue of it. Personally, I don't think it should matter what name you give them, as long as you acknowledge that name when they call you back to verify your ride when it arrives at your pick-up spot. Overall, as a one-time customer, I am not happy with the recent service that I have received from this company. And with the way ride share services are taking their customers and their employees (not to mention the Divvy bikes and electric scooters) it's would probably be wise for Yellow Cab Co. to stop resting on their laurels and reinvent their image if they want to continue to thrive and be relevant in this market, because I don't think the taxi industry is going be like it was pre-pandemic, even after everyone (or mostly everyone) is vaccinated and covid is no longer a major threat. read more

As I was walking Michigan across the river, I crossed Wacker drive at 6pm. Your yellow cab who was not paying attention, and he nearly hit me. Out of surprise, I hit the side of his car. He started shouting extremely offensive remarks and followed me for a bloc, shouting obscenities. I will never use the service. read more

Took a yellow taxi from O'Hare to a neighborhood near Brookfield Zoo. They said that since my destination wasn't on their approved list, I would pay the final amount plus half. I saw that Midway airport was on the approved list rating at $37 per person per ride. Midway is 30 miles from O'Hare. My house is 21 miles from O'Hare. So at the worst, $37 plus half. But my house is closer than Midway so when they gave me my total at $73, I nearly lost it. When I explained my surprise, the driver said, "this isn't midway." I will never use them again. I felt bad for taxis since the start of Uber but not anymore. read more

I had called the night before a business trip to schedule a cab to pick me up for an early morning flight. The Yellow Cab employee took down my information from me, repeated it to confirm it was correct, and said my order was placed. The next morning I called after the cab did not show, and it turns out that while my information was correctly taken down, the employee forget to complete the order. I nearly missed my flight because of this error. I will never trust Yellow Cab with a time sensitive pick up again. They demonstrated the complete inability to perform the one task they are supposed to: a timely pickup. read more

TERRIBLE ACROSS THE BOARD: When you schedule a pick up for a business meeting, they may arrive 45 minutes early and leave if you are not ready. They may never arrive at all. They have canceled an order when my cell phone dropped the call while we were speaking about when the driver would arrive. They have taken over an hour to arrive. Their customer service people know they have a decent monopoly on cabs and are not really willing or able to get a cab to you when you need it. This company could care less. Using my payment method, they had located the cab within 20 minutes and gave us the driver's phone number so my son could arrange to get them back. This is the worse cab company frequenting downtown Chicago. On Christmas eve at 11:00pm, I had to get from the Amtrak Station to the Greyhound bus station (granted only 4 blocks, but I had 3 suitcases and a computer bag, and the temperature was 24 degrees). An Asian cabbie picked me up and when he discovered it was only a $5.00 fare, he refused to let me get in, saying he would lose his place in line. An Amtrak supervisor forced him to take me, as he was the next cab up. He smashed my luggage into the trunk and was about to smash down on my computer bag, but I insisted it be placed in the back seat me. He drove like a bat out of H****, almost getting us hit with a severe U-turn. Upon arrival at the Greyhound station, he literally THREW my suitcases into the street in front and sped off, all the while cursing in his Asian language! He was driving so fast and so rude that I did not get a chance to get his cab number or his name on his cabbie license. But I will be lodging a major complaint with Yellow Cab there in Chicago!!! I recently went to a concert in Chicago and called for a cab because every cab that drove by was taken. The lady I talked to was very nice and told me she'd call me with an ETA. She called back in a couple minutes say 6 minutes. 15 minutes later, no cab. So I called back and after 5 minutes she says "oh he didn't pick up the dispatch call" REALLY?! and you weren't going to tell me this?? So she told me she'd send another cab. 5 minutes after that a man calls me asking me if I still needed a cab DUH! I told him that the first person never even answered his call and I wasn't informed. So he says they will send another one and I ask how long I have to wait. 15 minutes. 45 minutes to get a cab? I do not think so. I went ahead and spoke my mind and told them that I will give my money to another company that doesn't leave me hanging when their crappy employees dont answer their dispatch calls. read more

I never used Uber or any other ride-share service before but that's going to changed forever. I will never use yellow cab again even if I had to pay more for other services. I took a ride Sunday around 6 pm to Lincoln Park and tipped the driver very well. I was tired (just came from graduation) so I forgot my keys. I called YC dispatcher 2 minutes right after the driver left. I explained that I did not remember the cab #, but described the driver, pick up/drop off location, the radio station he was listening to, and asked if they could broadcast to nearby cabs so I can get my keys back. I'm sure he was 5 minutes drive away (in the area) because the traffic was a little slow. I was told they were going to submit a lost-found note and if they find something they will call me back the NEXT DAY. Needless to say I had to pay over $100 for locksmith lockout service. With that, I will never ever take a yellow cab again not with that kinda of customer service. At this point I'm more than happy to pay Uber and other services to destroy this company for good. read more
