I made the roommate walk almost 1.5 miles to a bar. When it came time to head back to the area where we parked, I decided to call an uber. We were at Millennium Park, so walked across the street to a less busy spot. I called the car on Tuesday, December 5th at 1:20pm. We ended up getting a really nice driver, but he got lost on the way to us, so it took 7 mins to pick us up. It was freezing, so the wait was kind of uncomfortable. We were going to Bonci in West Loop, so the whole ride took about 10 mins. The cost ended up being $7.94 for an uberX. We got a Jeep Liberty. It was an older car I think, but clean and comfy. I usually have always had good experiences with Uber and used it often. For the past year, I cannot get an Uber to O'Hare Airport ~25-40min drive depending on traffic. I've had countless drivers continuously cancel on me and then Uber never finds me a replacement. I've schedule two different trips in advance (over 24 hours). UberEats Drivers steal food -- customer service does absolutely NOTHING other than canceling your order and telling you to have a nice day, after having waited 90, sometimes 2 hours for a no show of food. I spend literally hundreds of $$$$ in delivery fees (not even discussing the tips) a month, they should do more than do nothing. This has happened multiple times. You can call and complain, and you'll get a customer service center in the Philippines whose reps aren't empowered to do anything useful. You can try and escalate within but they will do literally nothing other than listen to your sob story about how you've waited 90 minutes for food and still are hungry and now have to reorder with GrubHub. Uber is a great concept that I absolutely love however it's not perfect. It's awesome for the passenger but not necessarily for the driver. The fact that you can't go into the app and add a tip for your driver is Bananas! That's so crazy to me! I completely understand that they don't want people to feel obligated to tip so they left that option out but what about those who WANT to TIP and don't have Cash on hand? Every time I have been in an Uber my experience has been a positive one. Usually the inside of the car is prestine and smells amazing. The drivers are always friendly and cool! They have always done what they should be doing. But the Uber App itself needs to reconsider the tip option for its drivers. That's unfair to the driver, not everyone carries cash and often people would love to go back and tip their driver, if given the option. I love the fact that you can rate your driver and send them compliments and things of that nature but I'm sure all the drivers would prefer a tip over a compliment. I sure would. Some people are doing this for a living and those tips can add up to a lot of money for someone. The GPS in the App Is so annoying! It's annoying because the address isn't always correct yet they pretty much force you to use that address. Almost everytime I've used it, it's off. The app needs to give the passenger the option to use their own address and not a forced address that the app "recognizes" as your address. I was charged 5 times for a ride I never got due to "server errors", the help section of my Uber app wouldn't load to report the issues. When I logged on to my account via the website there is no option to call a real person about your issue. You get a prompt to fill out with your email and told you'll be contacted within 24 hours. I searched the internet to find a phone number to call and there is none for the Uber ride shares but there is one for Uber eats. The lady I spoke to at the Uber eats help call center was not in the least helpful, told me they don't have an Uber ride customer help center and then told me to once again try the app for help. Over all Uber has terrible customer service, especially for a company that's been in the game for over a decade. If you're looking for a more instant answer to your Uber problems you won't find one. I am a victim of fraud that took place over the course of the year 2020 and 2021. I have filed a claim online as there is no 800 number for customer service only driver service. When you call the driver service 800 number they hang up on you as soon as you ask for customer service. Otherwise some of the nicer driver service folks tell you file claim online. Which just send you right back to the website where you file a claim that absolutely goes nowhere just like you've already done before. So any sort of customer service is really just loop after loop after loop I've never anybody getting back to you to help you. If I could give this place a -0 I would. This company doesn't deserve anything more. While understanding there are areas in a business where cost cust need to be made, customer service certainly should not be one of those areas. It's getting to the point now, like other reviews have indicated, that Uber simply does not plan to cover any financial issue born on the customer's end (due to the fault of Uber / their drivers). I've had, over the past year, drivers take ridiculously stupid routes making trips take twice as long, and Uber Corporate basically says - too bad. What a joke. Somehow in literally every other industry you'd go out of business, but Uber continues to 'Thrive' due the convenience of their service, despite the fact that 'convenience' comes with a cost - poor customer service if any legitimate issue arises. I hope they get sued / blocked in every possible area they currently operate so they'll change their customer service tune to what it used to be - decent and reasonable! Uber customer service is a nightmare. Emailed them about a confirmed ride that was canceled by the driver after waiting for more than 10 minutes and then to discover that the driver probably canceled to go after more lucrative price surge deals. After back and forth over 8 replies, Uber tells me they can't find the canceled ride history in my account. (1) I do see it in my account history and (2) they are so inept it's not worth my time to try to complain anymore. Would like to recommend that we support Uber and Lyft equally so we won't end up in a situation where one service is a monopoly. Academic research and real life cases have truly shown that when one company has monopoly power, prices increase and service levels decrease. I was just taking an uber alone Thursday evening in Chicago. My driver was asking me way too many personal questions, I lie, the usual thing most women have to put up with. We are about a five minute distance from my destination, and he keeps ignoring incoming requests from riders. He then tells me he is going to "go offline" and basically act as if he's dropped me off, so that we're not "rushed." So he ends my ride, but I'm still in the car. Sketchy. He then takes the wrong turn, away from my destination, finds an alley, and pulls over. He asks me if I can get up in the front seat with him so that we can continue talking because we "still have some time together." I'm terrified, I immediately open my door and run for the closest place I could find other people. This was a pretty miserable experience to say the least. I then call uber, to file a complaint, and they tell me that they will investigate, but that for privacy purposes, they can't actually follow up with me on what action they took against him. I then call the police, and they say because he didn't actually "cause me physical harm," and it was just the threat of physical harm, and I managed to get myself out of the situation, they can't file a report. This sounds like a whole lot of garbage to me. So basically, this deadbeat is out there, potentially still picking up riders, with absolutely no repercussions for his actions. Broken systems suck. Uber is really revolutionizing transportation but has a long way to go in Chicagoland. Here are tips that could make it better: 1) Mandate all drivers follow the hands free laws. Half the drivers here hold their phones. This is very dangerous. Investing in a $10 clip for a smartphone seems like a bargain when you consider the alternative is killing yourself and/or a passenger. 2) Penalize drivers who don't follow the route that Uber recommends. Half the time the drivers completely ignored the route. They might make good taxi drivers, but shouldn't be driving for Uber if they can't understand the route. My driver to the airport ignored the route and we were stuck in traffic on a Sunday. 3) Learn from the Bay Area Uber team and drivers. Uber is great... when it works for you. Those times are when you're in a popular area and requesting a car during off-peak times. If it's rush hour or in the evening on a weekend, you have little chance. When you request a car, you can only request if for "right now." If Uber can't find a car for you, it will tell you to try again later. During peak times, you'll click "Reserve" 10 or 20 times before you can actually get a car to pick you up (if it's available at all). During peak times, they go to "surge pricing." When I tell friends about the surge pricing, they expect that rates might go up 20% or 30%. No dice... prices go up 200% or 300%. Pricing changes minute to minute. So you have to weigh whether or not to reserve, find a taxi, or wait a minute to try again and get fair pricing. Most drivers are amazing - extremely courteous and friendly. But since the barriers of entry to become a driver are low, you'll get a bad apple eventually. Some drivers clearly don't know the city at all. You give them a legitimate destination (e.g. Huron & Michigan Ave) and the insist on a street address. You're not delivering mail, fancy pants, I'm just trying to get to that corner. So you figure out an approximate address for that corner. He types it into his GPS, but messes up one digit. So, instead of heading north on Michigan Ave, you head south. Seriously? What was wrong with my initial destination of Michigan and Huron? Madness. Any taxi could take you to Michigan and Huron without hassle and for cheaper. read more

I cannot recommend Uber for transportation. I had scheduled two days in advanced for an Uber ride to take me from my home to Chicago O'hare airport. On the day of the ride the driver cancelled without even pulling into my driveway, and charged me a $5.00 cancellation fee. I disputed the charge, was told that my account would be credited. I used to live in Streeterville, where there were always cabs outside my door, and three bus routes within a block. Now I live near the East Bank Club, where there's always a line of cabs waiting (but few cabs cruising the streets). It's worked okay until this winter, when I got tired of walking two blocks in a -10 wind chill to get a cab. So I downloaded the Uber app and took my first ride a few months ago. I must be luckier than most of the reviewers here, because I've had almost no problems. First, I always choose the Premier car, second from the top in expense. It only costs a few bucks more than a regular cab to Water Tower or Northwestern. The Premier cabs have big back seats, are clean, and the drivers well dressed and courteous. Second, if I order an Uber and it doesn't start moving on the screen app, I only give it a minute or two... then I cancel it and order another one. Never had a problem with getting double charged. Third, I ask the driver which route he's (or she's) going to take. If I don't agree, I tell him why. Only had one issue with a driver not knowing his way arouund... my first Uber ride.The driver went north instead of south, and I ended up with $4 more on my fare. I emailed Uber and it was refunded within a few days. Is Uber always perfect? I wish. Half of my issues are with the technology (app), especially because it often doesn't get the GPS coordinates right. And if you're near a lot of high rises, especially Michigan Avenue, a half block can make a big difference in just hooking up with the Uber car. My other gripe is that the customer service part of the app is crap. After I signed up as a Rider, Uber also signed me up as a Driver (huh?), and then they bugged me twice a day for weeks to complete my Driver registration. The only way I could correct their mistake was to cancel both accounts... then sign up as a Rider again... but it took two days and at least ten emails to complete the process because I use the same mobile number. A huge hassle. But all in all, I love this service. I do think my Uber experiences are mostly positive because I use the Premier level. I'm not looking for a cheaper ride, just a better and more dependable one. read more

I'd say that this is a decent service. It's certainly not my first choice in terms of mode of transport but given certain circumstances, this works well. En route to the airport for an early morning flight, I chose to try Uber for the first time given the dearth of taxis cruising the street at such an early hour. After entering my request, I was informed that no "uberX" vehicles were available. So, I requested an über taxi, got a confirmation via text with the driver's name and taxi number and within 4 minutes, he arrived. The service is pretty cool in that you can see your location on a map and the "über cars/taxis/SUVs/Black" that are nearby are visible on the map. You can also track your driver's route to pick you up. It was certainly a seamless process but there are a few hidden fees - $1.25 for the Uber booking fee and an automatic 20% gratuity. So, the price of the ride, which wasn't available until I received an email from Uber was $2-4 higher than the estimated fare that the app quoted (and obviously more than if I'd hailed a regular taxi). Kinda deceitful if you asked me! On the positive side, my driver was pleasant, even at 3:45 AM and I'll have a chance to rate him and he will rate me. In theory, über is a good concept. We'll see if I use their services again. My tips for them would be to be more transparent with the added fees and the total price in the fare estimator, to not advertise uberX if it is not available and to have the total price visible in the taxi when customers exit. No one wants to be surprised by the amount that is automatically charged to the credit card by email minutes or hours after getting out of the car. read more

My first Uber experience ever was in Chicago. I used UberX to get from Rosemont to downtown Chicago (about 16 miles), and with a $10 promo code, it only cost $21.00 total charged to my card (message me if you need a promo code). My driver made my first time really great - funny thing is that he said he could tell I'm from LA, and for a second I thought I somehow gave off a weird LA vibe, but he said it was because most people who use Uber in Chicago know about the service because it is so popular here in LA. The experience was smooth from start to finish. I ordered a driver and got one instantaneously. He texted me as he was on his way and again when he was in front of the hotel, right on time, he was there in about 10 minutes. I am not always down for conversation, but it was nice chatting - he was very chill and told me about places to go and what it was like living there. Great change from the sometimes rude and unpleasant taxi drivers. I think I got extremely lucky and had a very positive experience, but I'm sure things could go wrong as well.
