I finally had my first rideshare experience with Uber a few weeks ago, I won't hesitate to use the service again should the need arise. I dropped off my car for some service and needed a ride home to pick up my truck so I brought up the Uber app on my phone and requested a ride. Getting a ride through the app was quick and easy, I only had to wait about five minutes for the driver to arrive at my location. The car was clean and comfortable, the driver was very polite, friendly and professional. We engaged in pleasant conversation throughout the short trip. I have used taxi cab services in the past but after my experience with Uber I think it will be my first option going forward. I am happy to have their service as a transportation option. read more

I'm using Uber more often when traveling and find they are dependable and safe. After picking up my bags in Norfolk I had a short walk outside of baggage claim to the taxi/share ride area. The app worked with no issues and provided the necessary information of pricing, arrival time and car details with tag number. I really like the fact it's a flat fee as opposed to a taxi. I have used Uber out of Norfolk over half dozen times. I have also have pre ordered my driver the night before and that worked flawlessly. Not all rides have been four stars, but I will average with some three stars. I can't say I've ever had a ride that warrants a full 5. My recent out of Norfolk International to Home worked very well. The car was clean, the driver was nice and no hitches. The price was around $2 cheaper than my normal taxi fee. I tipped off the app. I have used both Lyft and Uber with similar good results. I'm using Uber more now since my status has better pricing. I would recommend Uber in Norfolk. read more

I normally use Uber to go to and from the airport or when I'm meeting some friends out to go tripping and falling into different bars/clubs/restaurants. Last week, I had to use it several times to go to the mechanic and to/from work. Luckily, I've had nothing but respectable and professional drivers. This Uber driver I had was completely rude. Constantly took the wrong way when the gps told him exactly where to go. I told him the interstate was fast he tells me he's not taking the interstate and that I'll get home this way. I'm spending my money for this ride I'd like it if you follow the damn directions. We have used Uber several times and have never had a problem. The services are way cheaper than using a cab service which oftentimes will cost you nearly 80.00 depending upon where you are going. If you haven't used Uber I highly recommend that you give these drivers a try. The vehicles aren't like cabs all smelly and nasty. All Uber vehicles are up to date cars and are nice. Very disappointed this time trying to use Uber for a vacation weekend. Arrived at Norfolk Airport and thought it would be a breeze to get an Uber or and other rideshare try for 45 minutes, once a wait time came up for 25 minute wait or mostly no cars available. Could not find any information saying that they're not servicing the airport on google, Or whatnot. Granted Friday was Opening of Phase 2 in VA from the Covid. I would give 0 stars if possible. I ordered an uber for fiancee, messaged the driver gave him my fiancee's name and confirmed the location with him. I received the notification that the trip was complete, I added a tip and then messaged my fiancee. He was still sitting outside of the auto shop waiting on the uber. I contacted uber and I have been told they will not refund because the driver's info shows he was close to the pick up spot and the drop off spot. I will say one thing about a review I read earlier about not tipping. So I used Ubereats to place an order at Boil Bay. It was a simple but quick order for 1 Shrimp Po Boy, 1 Crab Po Boy and an order of beignets. The order was placed around 4:30-ish in the afternoon. A driver by the name of Kendel was assigned to deliver my order. I was specific in my delivery instructions. He was to deliver the order to my room at the hotel I am staying at. Very simple, right? The hotel is located off a major freeway and easily accessible. I received notification that my order was being prepared and should be delivered around 5:30-ish. Okay. Waiting on my food. I've ordered from this particular location before and their food is always delicious. My delivery time gets closer so I'm checking in the Ubereats app and....Kendel is indicating that he is having to wait for my food because there is a delay at the restaurant. Okay....a bit unusual for a Monday night, BUT.....possible. To make this saga a bit shorter than the agonizing experience I went through....this unscrupulous driver named Kendel dragged out my delivery and did not make an appearance until 6:48 p.m.! This slovenly excuse of a man ATE my Shrimp Po Boy, refused ALL phone call attempts to reach him and then......yes, there's more.....he had the unmitigated gall to actually act like he couldn't READ! Yup! He finally texted me to cover his rather wide derriere. He went to the hotel NEXT to mine! And then had nerve to ask where my room number was! Let me think.....a 1st grader can READ THE BRIGHTLY ILLUMINATED HOTEL NAME....Kendel must have flunked kindergarten! After I texted back to let him know he was at the hotel ONLY A FEW YARDS AWAY FROM MINE.....he STILL took about 5 minutes to run into the lobby and drop the greasy bag AT THE FRONT DESK!! The app sent me a pic!! That HE had nerve enough to take to show delivery!! He is a donkey's cousin! I ran faster than a collection plate on Sunday down the stairs to the outside.....just in time to see the coward flying out of the hotel parking lot like he was late for all-you-can-eat at Red Lobster!! He didn't even get the code from me that Ubereats generates to confirm delivery! I think that he orchestrated this whole saga trying to get me to give him a bigger tip. He was probably parked at the 7-11 stuffing his oversized oral cavity with MY sandwich! I don't trust the rest of the order as it arrives COLD and in a greasy, slightly wrinkled bag; not how Boil Bay usually packs their food. The thought of this germy credent opening the sandwich boxes to see what HE wanted to eat......breathing over the food.....probably without a mask.....well....I guess I'll be cooking tonight. I paid another hotel guest who was driving to the Norfolk airport for a ride. Uber then charged me 6.25 for cancelation fee. I understand that cancelation impacts drivers. But what about my time? I actually got two separate sets of prices to go about 7 miles (from fees around $20 to $55) When I tried to book, I got error messages. So UBER in this area--no way. Uber caused me to be late for an appointment and cost me time getting a refund because I had to cancel the order (due to their driver's error) and create a new one. Driver went to a street address that matched mine but it was in a neighboring city a 30 minute drive away. I had to cancel that order and create a new one. I was charged a cancellation fee. That same day I requested a refund of the cancellation fee to be credited to the credit card I used. After almost two weeks I did not receive the refund so I sent them an email message. I was informed that they had given me an Uber credit. I was not informed of this. They did finally refund it to my credit card. I did NOT order car upgrade but a driver of a Lincoln Town Car responded. I was charged an upgrade fee. When I realized that I was charged an upgrade fee I requested a refund. It is completely unacceptable that there is no way to contact Uber Eats via phone or your delivery driver when only half your order arrived and is cold. I frequently recommend and use your services because I am handicapped with limited mobility. The restaurant and your services have been a disappointing display of customer service. My Uber X driver did not show up at the scheduled location. Uber had the audacity to charge my credit card for a trip that someone else took on my behalf. This charge was initiated by the Uber driver in spite of not giving me a ride. On the receipt it showed a different trip route vs. the one scheduled. Made a complaint and got my refund. I will not use this service ever again. Moving on to Lyft. Be very wary of this service. read more

What a convenient, easy, inexpensive way to get around! I'm hooked. We caught Uber from Norfolk (Oceanview) to PF Chang's in Virginia Beach so we could celebrate with some drinks and not worry about driving. It was $18 each way. Not bad. So far I've had really nice drivers with nice clean cars. And the fare is very reasonable. (Probably a third of what a traditional taxi would be). We opted to tip the drivers because they were awesome. Doesn't seem right not to tip! I haven't tried Lyft yet. Might try them out as well. read more

Uber has very very pitiful customer service with no telephone communication available. The 1-800 # listed directs callers with a complaint or question to go to uber.help on-line-- IAW San Francisco Bay Area, Calif., Uber has an "F" rating & almost 2000 complaints lodged over the past 36-months-- Some uber drivers intentionally refuse to take a customer to desired destination, tell customer to call another uber driver, & charge a cancellation fee. This seems like fraud to me -- after much time, frustration, & emails, I was credited/ refunded the cancellation charge Uber can be very BAD news! Not happy about Uber? You can file a complaint with BBB in San Francisco Bay Area, California & let your voice be heard-- that's what I'm doing. I have deleted the uber app from my smartphone. I switched from taxi service to Uber several years ago. The taxis in the VA Beach / Norfolk area are terrible, like most other cities. Now that people have an alternative to a taxi, they're bailing as fast as they can for good reason. Uber drivers are prompt, easy to deal with and there are repercussions if they provide a poor experience, unlike taxi drivers. Taxi drivers need to stop being so butthurt because they're being outclassed for providing smelly, disgusting cabs, bad attitudes, an inability to navigate without detailed instructions, late arrivals/poor communication, poor customer service all around, balking at credit card usage, etc and then on top of it all, expecting a tip. The Airport Authority at Norfolk is apparently trying to extort Uber out of $5000 in order to service the airport. Uber refused to pay and as of November, can't service the airport. Someone said they viewed this fee as "the cost of doing business"? I sure as sh!t hope you aren't in any position of authority or are a business owner; paying a stupid regulatory fee for no logical reason other than Lyft did it isn't the cost of doing business, it's a failure. Go review Taco Bell, you commy. Write the city council and mayor and tell them to unf!ck the situation. read more

I was recently on vacation in Virginia Beach, Va. I took a city taxi to my destination, huge mistake! They were 45 minutes late which delayed our seating at the event, the driver was creepy and inappropriate an he took the longest way possible because we didn't know the area. On our return trip we used Uber, amazing! The driver (Santiago) was right outside the door less than 3 minutes after we requested him, his car was show room floor clean, he was polite, professional and very easy going. He took the most direct route to our hotel and didn't dally. He also waited until we got to our room to drive away. For 2 women in a strange city it was a kindness that was deeply appreciated. Anytime I go there again I will only use Uber. read more

Update November 2015 - Looks like I will be making the switch to Lyft if Uber holds onto their position of not wanting to pay the 5,000 annual fee to service the airport. Lyft paid it, I think Uber should do the same. I view it as a cost of doing business. Poor business plan Uber, hope you reconsider the decision. Sorry Uber you were great, but...... I took Uber to and from Norfolk airport for a weeklong trip. The service was fast, drivers were friendly and it was cheaper and easier than driving and parking in the garage for the week. I love the ease of use and am hopeful that Uber continues to expand both in the number of drivers and territories serviced. I was a bit hesitant using them early 5:30 in the morning, but it worked out well. My return was after midnight, again no issue. Will continue to use when needed. read more

Tried out Uber for the first time and had a driver within 10 minutes at a third the cost of local cabs.... My husband and I have used Uber all over the world... literally! It's the BEST and least expensive way to get around, (at least that we know of). In Paris, we had a wonderful driver whom we ended up seeing later... we asked him if he would take us to the airport the next morning, (through Uber), and he agreed... he even showed up with champagne for us because he knew we had just been married! (Sadly, couldn't take it on the plane as we only had carry-ons... but STILL!):-) The ONLY issue we've had is that I am allergic to smoke and perfumes... and I'd say about 50% of the drivers use air fresheners that smell up their cars horrendously. And, especially in Europe, or the big cities, cars smelling of smoke is a big issue. But I've learned to just refuse the car if it's too bad. (Better than getting sick on the ride.) The absolute worst experience of my life! Imagine trusting a service to provide, waiting an hour for that service to arrive, only to get the ride canceled after all that time! Ordered another ride and immediately she is rude! Not one word was said upon entering the vehicle. We did not receive any type of greeting or welcoming. The first thing she opened her mouth and said was "don't sit on my water bottle" EXCUSE ME. When the water bottle was handed to her, she snatched it and said "you're suppose to be in the back anyway" last time I checked, you don't treat your paying customers that way. I was furious to be treated that way unnecessarily. On top of that, I still have a $10 fee pending to my account yet i didn't go anywhere and was treated poorly. Save your money and don't use Uber. Their standard has dropped tremendously. They allow tacky rude drivers to treat their customers any type of way while taking their money. she immediately tried to kick us out after she was rude, then wasted no time calling the police. As she is on the phone she is explaining she has 3 blacks girls in her car who won't leave. Within 1 minute all of this happened. She was rude, escalated the situation and called the police. I am not sure if she was having a bad day but to escalate the situation in the manner she did was harsh and unnecessary. Especially with what is going on with black people and the police into today's society. Her intent was to be hurtful. Which is why she immediately identified our race (typical) I truly believe her actions were due to a difference in race. Had this been someone with a similar hue to hers, there would have been more patience in action and respect towards us as a customer. I'm hurt and honestly tired of being hurt so their services will never be used myself and I will make sure all within my personal community are notified of this situation. Uber and Firestone have an agreement where Uber drivers have the following perks at Firestone: "Price of tires will be 10% over store cost, all other products and services 15% off." The two times I have had my tires replaced at Firestone I was fraudulently taken advantage of. I received a 6% discount off sticker price the first time, and 10% off sticker price the second time. The tires I purchased retail for ~$99 (I called other Firestone shops and confirmed this is the RETAIL price) and the best discount I got was 10% off (tires are a product and warrant a 15% discount, so it is quite easy to see that no KY jelly was used, here). After several weeks of communication, I am still getting the "Oh. Sorry. Someone will be right with you." response. Bump all that noise - I contacted tv news and print news. The reason for the single star rating is because they do not accept cash and for some reason their system does not like my debit card that I pay my monthly bills with every month so that being said where has with Uber I would have paid between 10 and $14 round trip I ended up having to take a standard taxi cab which cost me $26 round trip hard to do for a disabled person with a disability income would hope that Uber would change things also when contacting their customer support by email as they require I still have not heard back from them. read more

I had to Uber home today. They said the ride would be a white BMW M but the guy who showed up, on time, was driving an older champaign Infiniti. I got in the back passenger side seat. When I mentioned the difference in vehicles the driver went on to tell me that Uber is a bunch of idiots, that he's never told them he has a BMW M series and that there is no such car. He didn't realize how knowledgeable I am about cars but I didn't say anything because by the time he put the car in drive his creepiness was everywhere. He was an older black man. The car was very clean but had some really serious front end issues. I was ok with that, I could walk if I had to. In the first 1/4 a mile of my 5 mile journey he started hitting on me, asking if I'm married, if I'm a risk taker, asking very personal questions about my marriage and sex life. I was extremely clear that I'm not interested because I'm a very happily married woman. He just continued talking nasty, doing all he could to have sex with me, all the while I'm trying to ignore him, acting like I was busy with my phone. It was an extremely uncomfortable situation as I was essentially trapped in his car. I didn't have anything but a big pocket knife with me. While looking for house keys, that I didn't have, I quietly slipped my blade out and opened it, all the while him trying to get me to fuck him. When we arrived at my complex I had him stop at a different building so he couldn't see where I lived. While pulling in he kept saying he'd given my husband multiple rides, knows my husband well and knew where I lived. (He has given my husband one ride) He again asked me if I wanted to take a risk, meaning did I want to fuck him. Again, I was very clear that I was very happily married and not interested. When I got out he opened his door as if to follow me. I very quickly walked around the the end of the building, blade out and ready to slice and dice, until I saw him leave the complex. I had a downright fraudulent experience with uber recently. Has anyone else experienced this new surge pricing? It is uber charging as much as three times their normal fare during peak hours. The catch is, you have to accept the fare without knowing what it will be. I recently used and uber from Miami (collins Avenue south beach) to ft Lauderdale airport. Just for the sake of discussion, I will make the reader aware that an equivalent taxi cab charges a flat fee of $75.00 to go that distance. I also took an Uber with a friend from the airport to this exact location the week before for less than $40. When I needed transportation of my own a week later, I tried to order an Uber x but was informed that at this particular time, there was a surge pricing in affect at 1.5x Not being 100% sure of what that meant, I opted not to order it because I couldn't navigate away from the screen without agreeing to the price increase and there was a underliner that said the surge pricing would only be for two more minutes and asked me if I wanted to be notified when the surge was over. I clicked yes and thought uber would notify me in two minutes once the price surge ended. I sat in the lobby of my hotel waiting for my uber notification, which never came, and when I logged back into the app the surge price had risen to 2.8x normal pricing with a notification that it would cost $62!! Even though I felt cheated because the last notification I saw gave the impression that surge pricing would be ending in 2 mins not increasing, at the time it was still cheaper than a taxi (SO I WAS COERCED INTO BELIEVING )so I ordered it. BTW I only had $65 left in my bank account. I was dropped at the airport and I thought that was the end of it. WRONG. The next day I received an invoiced receipt for more than $93!! When I disputed the charge (complete with a screenshot of the quoted fare) I was told that it was my fault that I didn't know the fare in advance, even though it was different from what I was quoted onscreen, and that I would be held responsible for payment (even though I didn't have enough in my account to pay more than the fare I was quoted). I was also told that I cannot use uber again until I pay the inflated fare. I don't know about you, but in the future will take my chances with a flat rate cab. At least I know what I am getting. Unfortunately, the last time we decided to go out, we were able to get a ride there but were stranded to get home, no uber available! We ended up getting a taxi but had to wait 35 minutes. I placed an order for delivery through the Uber Eats app from tropical smoothie. The order was placed at 5:26 and I was given a delivery time of 5:49, at 5:49 the delivery time was pushed back to 5:59, and at 5:59 the order had still not left the store AND the delivery time was pushed back another 10 minutes. So I called customer support to see what the hold up was, the customer service rep informed me that the delivery driver was waiting on other orders to be made, as she was delivering multiple deliveries at once, but would issue a 50% refund due to the long wait time. To no surprise to me, the smoothies were melted and the food was soggy when it finally did arrive because my order had been sitting for 30 minutes waiting on other orders to be made. This morning I noticed the refund was never issued. So I called customer service to inform them the refund had never been applied to the order, and she told me since it had been over 24 hours since the order was placed there was nothing she could do to issue a refund, and that I would have to email Uber directly.. Only she couldn't give me an email address. I will not be using either of the Uber services in the future. read more
