I used this cab company twice and had different experiences both times. The first was when we took a cab from the airport to the Hampton Roads area, the second was when we took a cab from Waterside Marketplace to a destination which was about 7 miles away. The first cab driver was a bit on the slow side. It took him a few minutes to think of a restaurant to recommend to us in the city, and when my cell phone rang while he was talking, he didn't seem happy that he was interrupted. He also used a pretty derogatory slang term to describe some of the ethnic population in Norfolk and didn't have any receipts to give us when it was time for us to pay him. The second cab driver was awesome. He was driving a fully loaded Lincoln SUV with motorized doors to gain entry into the back seats, he was knowledgeable about the area and was well spoken. Arranged a pickup for 05:30 and they arrived about ten minutes early. The driver was helpful enough to pop the trunk so that I could load the two suitcases into it. He needed to use his GPS to get from the development towards the highway. That was interesting. As well, we only had two minor misses with other cars while he drove us to the airport with a "check engine" light on the dashboard. We arrived safely and he said that he preferred if we'd pay in cash. We did. Two stars. I've experienced better, though this is the first time I've used a taxi in the Hampton Roads/Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. read more

No issues with credit card payment The not so good 1. Did not get out of car to assist either side of trip (it was raining) 2. Floor mat on the passenger seat on my space (he apologized) 3. Heavy accent, hard to understand 4. Driver ask me for directions when having a GPS The pros and cons are somewhat balanced, but I scale down my review to 2.5. Not assisting with bags pissed me off. If I could award negative stars, I would. This is the only base approved taxi service at this time. That means if you are attached to a ship you are at their mercy to help you get where you are going. I most recently called to get a ride from this service and they confirmed that I was waiting at the mall by chili's and then sent the driver to another location. When I received a call from the driver he was angry at me for his dispatchers mistake and hung up on me. After waiting for ten minutes for him to pick me up, I called him back. He screamed at me and said I had to call back again to dispatch to get a ride and I should know that. This service is horrible, unprofessional and ghetto overall. Do not give them your money. ZERO STARS IF YELP WOULD LET ME!! Used them 8 months ago for a 0-dark-30 flight. Driver was late for a prearranged pick up, dispatch didn't have any info about the driver's whereabouts, and driver was unapologetic about delay. I thought then "never again," but I found myself in a bind and this was the only local company I could remember. I called for a ride from ORF and the dispatch rudely informed me that they don't pick up at ORF. So ever since I moved to the Hampton Roads area I have been using Black and White for my cab service. I have decided to do away with carrying cash and here we are with the eternal battle between the passenger and the cab driver. I get that credit card companies take a cut of the cab fair.... That's everywhere. More and more recently, the cab drivers have become increasingly more verbally aggressive when you don't have cash on you. That's not okay and that is in no way professional. In fact, one time I was told that I could not get out of the car if I paid extra for using a credit card plus extra tip. Seriously? I have been in many cabs in my life and if this company treats their customers this way (ESP when I said that I was going to use credit card from the beginning), I can find some other company to give me rides thank you. read more

My taxi driver #128 had a really nasty attitude. I thought he was drunk because he came off very angry. I asked him can he get me home he then replied how are you paying cash or debit I told him debt he then replied cause I don't want you to jump out my cab. I looked at him puzzled because why would you think I would jump out your cab sir why would say that too a paying customer. He then got Loud and biligerrent. I'm going to drop you dumb ads off at the cab station I and you're gonna pay me for that. I then said I'm paying you I wanna go home not to the cab staion. ZERO STARS!!!!!!!!!! This cab company is the WORST! For the past 4 days cab 753 has been parking outside of my apartment and honking the horn like a crazy person at 7:20am! My husband called the company the first day the driver did this and dispatch told him that the driver was NOT allowed to honk like that! That he should call or run up and knock on the door. So when the same driver honked like a crazy person the next day my husband called dispatch again they said they'd talk to him and apologized again. The third day my husband went down and tried talking to the driver and the driver is a rude man who rolled the window up in my husband face saying "yeah yeah, have a nice day! HAVE A NICE DAY!" This morning when he did it I was home to witness it (I normally go to work at 6am) so I went out. The guy wasn't going to roll down his window when he saw me, only reason he did is cause I started knocking. I told him that I knew that he talked to my husband, that for starters he's on the wrong side of the building, the kid has to walk through to get to him... and that even his company said he shouldn't be honking the way he does. I told him we've called the company 4 times now on him. Then he did the same thing to me.. rolls the window up rolling his eyes at me "have a nice day, have a nice day". Polite dispatcher BUT very inefficient service. The drivers don't have good communication with the dispatcher. I had to wait over an hour to get my cab, and this wasn't even in the middle of the night, this was around 11am. When I called back to see why it was taking so long, the dispatcher said she didn't know what was going on and that she would send another cab. When it finally got to me, the driver said he had just got the message from the dispatcher 5 minutes ago. And I had to pay $20 for a 5 mile ride. If I could give zero stars that would be appropriate. We had a van reserved for midnight on base hours in advance to get us after a wedding. They knew they needed a driver with base access. We called several times when the driver did not show. We finally had to call another company that showed up within 15 minutes of our call. We had everything arranged in advance. We called over and over. The best was when we finally were in the other cab we saw two of the B&W cabs finally arriving an hour late. Horrible service! read more

I took a taxi home from the airport instead of having someone call me pick me up late at night. The man who was driving me was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. He started asking me why no one picked me up. Why wasn't my husband picking me up? What hours did my husband work? Was he working now or would he be at my house? When I told him I wasn't comfortable taking, he stopped asking. But we pulled up to another taxi whose driver he knew and he rolled down the window to talk to him. He told the other driver to take me instead or he would just drop me off on the side of the road since I wasn't going to the oceanfront or anywhere he considered lucrative. I don't care how far away your location is, you'd do better walking. They need to shutdown. I called at 1 to set up an appointment. I asked the lady if my car would be here on time because I had somewhere to be. She assured me it would. It's 4:30. My car was supposed to be here at 4. I called back & the lady said "well call back in 5 minutes if it's still not there." The supervisor said "we're still looking for someone to claim it." I see Black and White cabs all around, read positive reviews in various places, so went ahead and scheduled two pick ups, was confident a ride would be here. I apparently read the wrong reviews. I was to start my internship and needed to be there at 8 am, on line it said in a car it would take 5-10 minutes depending on traffic. So, figured 7:30 am would be a good time to be picked up. Called on Monday to schedule a pick up on Wednesday and Thursday, figured that would give them time to add me and make sure I had a cab. Well, 7:30 came no cab, I understand, stuff happens, gave them until 7:40, still had time to make it by 8. I called and the person answering the phone knew my name and said,we are working on getting someone to you as soon as possible. To call back in 10 minutes if nobody was here. I told him I needed to be there by 8, would that be possible, he said they are working on it and someone will be here. I called back in 10 minutes, got a different person. They said nobody is in the area, they are working on it and someone will be here. I reminded needed to be someplace by 8, he said we are doing the best we can, there isn't a cab in the area, sometimes this happens. I asked what is the point of scheduling a pick up 2 days in advance, if they are not going to actually schedule anyone? He replied with, sometimes it happens like this, have a good day. and hung up. This cab company is terrible. All the operators are rude and seem to be bothered by phone calls. I work in a hotel and I have had cab drivers throw tantrums in my lobby because another cab arrived first. Completely unprofessional. The only thing they have going for them is they have the most cars in the area which makes them quick. Its not worth it. I flew in to Norfolk and asked the information desk for the number of a GOOD taxi company. I was given the number to Black & White. I called and dispatcher took my information and there was a taxi there within minutes! Coming from DC I didn't expect Norfolk to have such fast service like we do back home. I had the pleasure of riding with "Big G" and she was very knowledgeable about the area, making great dining suggestions and also carried on good conversation. The cab was clean smelled fresh and I didn't fear for my life lol as I do when I ride in taxis in NY or Chicago. I will definitely call again and request Big G. read more

I ordered a cab today because I had a flat tire and needed to get to the store in order to purchase a new one. I was lucky enough to get a man named Bill (cab 1u9). He was awesome! He went above and beyond helping me, going so far as to help me put the jack in the right place in order to change my tire without damaging my vehicle. Honestly this was the best experience I have ever had with a cab company. I would absolutely use this service again, and definitely ask for Bill. read more
