Had 5 people in our group so we reserved a "premium" SUV that would fit six people. After returning our rental car I messaged the assigned driver, Julio, at the assigned pickup time and got no response. He showed up a few minutes later and was extremely rude and dismissive. We were only 5 minutes from the cruise port but since it was a premium SUV, a Cadillac Escalade, we were willing to pay $25 rather than $10 for a regular 6 person vehicle. Unfortunately he took one look at us and said we had too much luggage and he would not take us. We had a smaller minivan and fit great but Julio was unwilling to even try to make it work and was very rude about it. I was scheduling a pickup date using the Uber app. After selecting the vehicle, price, date and payment, Uber responded with an error and increased the price about 15% higher originally posted. I scheduled a ride to get my son from school back home because i was not going to make it in time and did not want him left outside. I did mark that the ride was not for me personally so the driver woud not be looking for my profile picture. WALDI was assigned to do the run and I watched it's progress since I was home waiting for my son to arrive. My phone pinged indicating that the ride was over and WALDI was looking for a tip. Well y son was not home at that moment I recieed a call from the school asing when the UBER was going to arrive. He never picked my son up I had to go leave what I was doing and go get him and he wanted a tip. Uber has no means that I have found to report such an incident. Tonight's Uber adventure began as a very unpleasant experience. Demand pricing more than tripled our less than usual $25 ride to over $75. Well that was more than I was willing to pay. So I close the app and waited for less than minutes before trying again. This time the rate was more liking down a full third. So we accepted. First the learning lesson - maybe. It seems if you don't like the first rate close the app and try again. Good things can happen quickly. Second, the driver we got was a consummate professional. No stars. Apparently this is a all over issue. Two different times I used Uber for food deliveries this week in two different states. In New York the bike went the wrong way. Dude your seven minutes away on 5th ave, how you got to the FDR drive to be 30 minutes away. I never understand. Parade was over when I ordered my delivery. Why 5 stars? Because it's infinitely better than calling cab in every facet of the experience. --- --- --- Uber is one of my favorite apps of all-time. I don't even use it that often, but it's such an amazing service, that I really like to champion for it. Think about the old process of calling a cab. You have to look up the phone number of a cab company. You call them and talk an operator. You say, "yeah, I'm over in Seminole Heights at this food truck rally. It's kind of next to Red Star Rock Bar on Florida Avenue. I don't really know the cross street... I think it's Florida Avenue and something..." Maybe 10 minutes later, maybe 45 minutes later, your cab will arrive. But you don't really know for sure when it's there, unless you stay put and keep an eye out for it. You could be chatting with someone and miss the cab arriving. Or maybe the cab would get lost because the driver doesn't understand exactly where you are. If you do get into the cab, they could easily drive you the longest way possible to your destination, especially if you are an out of towner and don't know your way around. They also seem to always be a victim of their credit card machine not working. And who hasn't gotten massive anxiety from watching that money meter rapidly climbing up like Godzilla on a sky scraper? Finally, who hasn't had a cab that smells like 4 cartons of cigarettes, who spends the majority of his ride yelling into his phone in various languages? ALL OF THAT is non-existent with Uber. You see how close drivers are on the map, and you send out a notice that you'd like to be picked up. Within seconds, you are assigned a driver, and can see their rating. When the driver arrives, they will call you if there is any confusion as to your exact location. Once in the (generally pretty nice) car, you'll usually be offered a bottle of water and the ability to put on whatever music that you'd like. Your end destination is also plugged into the map, which allows you to follow the trip via GPS, to ensure that your route is efficient. So then you get to your destination, and your fare is significantly lower than a cab would be. Also, the tip is already built in, AND, you don't have to do anything! Your credit card is already assigned to your account, so the payment is automatically transferred. The final step is rating your driver, which they do not see for 24 hours. So if you have a bad driver, don't worry that he can chase you down for a 1-star rating. The driver can also rate you, so if you're obnoxious enough times, they might not be in a hurry to pick you up next time. It keeps everyone accountable. It's cheaper. It's more efficient. And it creates jobs. Everything about it is better than the old system. The money-grubbing cab companies that are trying to block it from being legal in certain cities are so disappointing. I've used Uber all over the world and I'm glad it has finally come to Tampa! Uber appear to be growing here, despite the best efforts of the city and the taxi companies. It's just too convenient when my car dies or needs work and I need to get somewhere, now! In some places like NYC, the rates can go up by 25%, 50%, or even 75% when it's busy. Hi, this review serves as a example of how bad Uber treats upcoming drivers and probably riders. I recently started applying to drive for Uber as I am already a Lyft driver. I sent Uber all of my documents which were the same documents I sent to lyft. After about 2 days of getting no response I emailed Uber and asked if my application was being processed. I eventually got a account notice that my vehicles registration was declined. After asking why it was declined I got a responding email that stated that I altered my email and committed fraud and that they would be permanently deleting my account due to fraud attempts. 1st off there isn't anywhere to report a claim that is being charged to your card, but doesn't show up in "my trips". So I reported it to my bank. They disputed the charges with Uber and I got a refund. Well when I reported the false claim they had to cancel my debit card and send me a new one, during Christmas mind you. So 2 weeks later I use my card for Uber eats and they recharge my card for the disputed charges. I disputed the charges AGAIN...Got ANOTHER debit card and now I'm blocked by Uber! I was a delivery driver for Uber. The pay was decent so I would use this app over doordash often, not anymore. Definitely work for doordash they help you with anything in a timely manner too. With Uber my account randomly became unable to go online to receive orders about 5 months ago. I reached out for support and was not helped at all. The customer/worker support they have is terrible and they need to be trained better. I was given the run around almost everytime I called and it took me two days to get in contact with a supervisor. The first time I called the supervisor told the agent she didn't need to speak with me and to transfer me to someone else after I had been transferred 3 times to the wrong place. They are very unprofessional and need to be held accountable for this poor service. I had created a second account to try and bypass all of the bs which made everything worse. I told them to delete the extra account and they created two more accounts for what ever reason without my consent. So I had 4 accounts in the system and I only had access to 2 of those. I called again and told them I wanted all the accounts deactivated except for the main account I wanted to use. They told me this would happen over the course of 3 days and I should receive a message from them. I never received any update and had to reach out after 3 days. I was told the same thing again, someone would reach out to me in 3 days. Still no one reached out to me. Today I get a call that they cannot help me and I can't work for them anymore. Who treats a enthusiastic worker like this...seriously? Do NOT drive for Uber! I was unemployed and bought a new car in order to drive for Uber. I did so because I was told the fare was $1.80 per mile and .25 per minute. I did the math. I estimated how much I would drive and earn each week as a full time driver. And I was very accurate with my estimate. About two moths after I started, Uber decided to lower the fares....without warning....to $1.00 per mile and .13 per minute. That was a HUGE pay cut.....at least $1,000 per month. They said that they would guarantee a minimum salary since they cut pay. That lasted about 2 months and it too went away without warning. I made multiple attempts to get an explanation without success. When I moved back to Tampa, the fares decreased to .80 per mile and .11 per minute. Uber floods the market with drives but does little to recruit riders, which results in a lot of drivers fighting for crumbs. Uber does not have a good incentive for recruiting riders, a one time $5 payment. Also, Uber does a very poor job of educating their riders. They create the illusion that all the rider needs to do is drop a pin and a car will magically appear. That causes me to get the wrong pick up location about half the time. When I try to text or call, I often cannot get the rider which means wasted time, gas and often the trip, if I cannot find them. Uber creates the impression that tips are included. They are not. But riders think they are, so they do not tip. There is also no way for a rider to tip via the app. This week, Uber changed the terms of service so that they can now charge riders whatever they want and pay the drivers mileage regardless of the amount the rider paid. It used to be we got 80% of the total fare, now we get 80% of whatever Uber decides is the fare. They started calling a large chunk of the fare a "booking fee", of which they keep 100%, for example. (They are being sued for this and other things). As a full time driver, I have put 65,000 on my brand new car in 18 months. It is a losing proposition. Watch "The Uber Scam" video on YouTube. Uber is awesome! We use it often all over the globe. It is about half the cost of a taxi. For a trip about 35 miles and 45 min drive, the cost is about $40, and for short trips like 3 miles away, the cost is only about $5. All the Uber driver's I have ridden with have had decent looking, fairly new cars or trucks. They have been clean, and heat and AC works well in them, and plenty of room for me and my backpack. Sometimes instead of paying high parking downtown, it's easier to use an Uber to get to an event and back. Also for 1 way trips to the airport, instead of making family take you or pick you up, an Uber is great to use. Many Uber driver's also offer free bottled water, and some have cell phone chargers you can use too. The Uber usually only takes a few minutes to get to you as there are normally several nearby waiting on a call for a ride. In more rural areas, maybe 15-20 minutes for them to get to you. For the newbies, how Uber works is: You download the app on your smartphone. Put your basic info into the app, along with a valid credit card. Then if you want an Uber, click on the app, it will use your GPS to locate you, type in the location you want to be taken too, and the app will locate the nearest Uber to you. You will see on your phone the time it will take for the Uber to arrive to you. In the meantime the Uber driver will normally text you thru the Uber app, to confirm your location, number of riders, and maybe a description of you, so he or she can find you easier if there's several people standing around. You will also get the drivers name, photo, and type of vehicle he is picking you up in. So you can watch for him too. The Uber will then pull up to you, you confirm he's the correct Uber driver, get in his vehicle and he takes you to your destination. Most Uber driver's are very friendly and talkative, and will make sure the inside temp is to your liking. I normally ride in the rear, like a taxi, but some driver's allow you to ride up front if you wish, or need too due to the amount of people in your group riding together. Once you reach your destination, you click on the Uber app and rate the driver 1 to 5 stars, just like on Yelp, and the driver also rates you as a passenger. The driver is then automatically paid via your stored credit card on the app, and you will be emailed a receipt and have receipts stored on your Uber app. It's a very simple process, easy for anyone to use 24/7/365. During very busy times such as New Years Eve, rates might triple, but you will always see an estimate of your trip cost before summoning the Uber. There also also sometimes larger and fancier vehicles you can select on the Uber app if needed. Uber drivers are all background checked and the app knows you are there with that driver, and Uber knows who you are as well. This helps keep everyone safe, and lessens the chance of getting a crazy driver or a crazy passenger, lol. read more

I no longer have to feel like I'm the last person in Tampa who hasn't tried Uber. I'm going to contrast my first Uber ride with my last taxi ride. Getting a taxi was always unpleasant, but my final taxi ride from the airport took it to another level. For one the taxi was dirty, which wasn't exactly surprising. As we were barreling down the interstate the driver had his window down and was screaming angrily into his cell phone having an argument. Of course whenever you're in a taxi you're staring at that meter that just keeps continuing to skyrocket. And when the trip is over you get an "OMG it cost how much?" feeling before the tip is even included. That trip was pretty much the straw that broke the camel's back for me. That was years ago and I never rode a taxi again. With Uber I was able to see an estimate of how long it would be until I could be picked up and estimate what my fare would be so that there were no surprises. I was able to see a picture of the driver, his name, and a description of his car. My friendly driver showed up in six minutes in a spotless car. He pointed out that there was a lightning cable if I wanted to charge my iPhone. As the trip was underway I could see on the app where I was and an estimate of when I would arrive. If I was with other people we could split the fare using the app. I also had the option of sending my trip ETA to other people via text. When the ride was over I was emailed a receipt that showed the route we took. I LOVE this because in Los Angeles I was a victim of a shady cab driver that "couldn't find" Union Station and drove me around in circles to pump up the fare. With Uber you rate your driver so they have an incentive to make your experience a good one. Not only was the fare significantly less than a taxi, but I had a $20 credit for using Uber for the first time. I've had multiple friends rave to me about Uber and now I understand why. It's great to know that I have the flexibility to get a pleasant, reasonably priced ride from an app on my phone whenever the need arises. It's a shame that Uber has encountered so many roadblocks for operating in Tampa. I'm glad that they stuck with us because I plan on continuing to use them. read more

5 star experience and best price to PIE airport from Tampa!! ---- I bought last minute airfare flying out of St. Petersburg PIE airport and I live near downtown Tampa. Transportation was an afterthought to my plans and when I realized public transit is not reasonable in travel time, I checked out super shuttle with a shared ride van, that would no doubt take double the transit time. The quote was $55 each way! I quickly turned to Uber and the fare estimate was $20-$27. And it's a private ride! Best of both worlds! I requested an Uber 10 min before I really needed to leave and the driver accepted and was at my door in 5 min. Very clean car and Javier was very nice! I couldn't be happier with my first Tampa Bay Uber experience!! I will definitely be using this as my main airport transportation as the overnight parking is expensive. I wouldn't even give a star but wanted to write a review and didn't think I could without it. A friend of mine told me that I should use Uber to ride from near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge to Tampa International Airport. We had a 6:00 p.m. flight. I downloaded the app and made the reservation a few days ago for them to pick us up today at 3:00 p.m. We're outside waiting for them with five pieces of luggage. I look at the app and the scheduled ride which was showing up just minutes before was not there. On the front page it said there were no cars available. I went back to where our ride had shown up and it says cancelled. I didn't cancel it. Folks, there is no way to call them. They had a number for emergencies but the guy hung up on me because it wasn't an emergency. To me it was. I googled taxis and found one called, I think, St. Petersburg Yellow Taxi. He was there in less than 15 minutes. Great guy too. Now Uber quoted $25-$35 for the ride. The taxi ended up $70 + tip. Now I think the Uber driver figured he wasn't going to make any money on us and just cancelled the ride. I would NEVER use them. Twice the price was worth getting to the airport in time to make your flight. Also, if one driver doesn't show you can call and do something about it. Before I deleted the app from my phone tonight I tried to delete my payment method. It wouldn't let me because it requires one payment method on file. I have taken Uber many many times in various states. I've never had any problems with them until last night. After being picked up from the restaurant, and taken home my friend left a pair of broken glasses in the backseat accidentally. The driver found them in the driveway he did not leave the driveway. Now Uber is trying to charge me an additional $15 for lost and found. I am not paying $15 for lost and found. As I mentioned the driver never left our house. After playing with the app for 30 minutes a driver showed up at my house and knocked on the door. Once I finally got an Uber the drivers were great and helpful with showing me how the app works. Uber really needs to up there CS game. read more
