Response from UCDavis for complaint against a doctor
    Thiyagarajan C.

Went here first my Annual physical. Dr Nguyen has been my primary care Dr. for over 3 years now. I had few concerns which I brought up during the visit. My problems went into deaf ears. I was given sn appointment to discuss my complaints. I am not what's the purpose of physical exam if ur not even ready to look, The hospital just wants to make more more by delaying diagnosing any problems. Thanks Rajan

Two reasons for always patronizing this business! Karen Pederson, Optometrist and Heather Wallace, Optical Shop Technician extraordinaire! I have quite a few years invested with these two talented people! Dr. Pederson is thorough, professional and patiently answers all my questions. And she has the best personality! Which makes all my annual visits just plain fun! Heather is so creative and in no time at all helps me find the best glasses for my face shape! Which of course is important to me!;). Right ladies? She is calm and cool and that is just what I need! Heather knows all the ins and outs of my insurance which makes life so much easier! These two beautiful women are phenomenal assets to the UCDavis Health System! Pros for sure! I highly recommend them for your ophthalmology and eye wear needs! I can see clearly now!;).

I'm wondering why, with so many bad reviews of this particular doctor. Even with a review on this yelp page with her named in a negative review. "Dr."Kelly Ann Bernadette Why is this person still employed as a doctor at this clinic? I transferred from Mercy medical group to UCD Health in search of answers. Why am I disabled at such a young age? That's the general concern of every issue I've had. I am legally disabled. I've been disabled since I was 18, now being 30. My medical problems began at the age of 3. I exhausted my options at Mercy Medical Group. I was always in search of answers. I was never able to be diagnosed with any condition, I was only treated for the symptoms of what my illness was causing. After years of this kind of experience of MMG my PCP at Mercy recommended I seek answers at UCD Health. In a true, genuine search for answers, I decided to switch to UCD Health. I chose Dr.Griffin, a doctor within UCD Health at the Folsom location. Dr.Griffin, whom is no longer with UCD, is an amazing PCP. I began my first few appointments, skeptical, but open. She made referrals, ordered different scans and work ups to be completed. She showed a genuine concern for what I was dealing with. I attended all appointments, I am up to 13 different specialists I currently work with at UCD Health. I can say that I have never been in such a medical environment to where I felt the staff truly had an interest and concern for my unknown illness. I continued this journey for some time. I continued to be diagnosed with diseases and conditions. I was placed on several medications in hopes that I would be able to resume to normal life. After doctor Griffin left this practice, my case was absorbed by Dr. Kelly Ann Bernadette. I attended a physical clinic visit to go over all the treatments, history that my case involves. I was never shown any care or inquisitive behavior from this doctor. She recommended I do google searches on my complaints. While I have a list of diagnosis that are being treated. Lists of symptoms that have yet to be reviewed or studied by a doctor. Scans with diagnosis that had not been recognized for evaluation. Any concern was dismissed or brushed off. At this point, my mental health and physical health started to decline. I have made several appointments with this doctor, almost on a monthly basis to continue my search for answers. After my case was absorbed by Ms Bernadette, I was never treated for any of my existing issues. I was never referred to any specialist for a further work up. I have also noticed any and all notes that have been placed in my medical records are not only incorrect but fraudulent. I was allowed to sit at home for months in a state to where I could not live my life. My year old son could not be picked up. I could not do any basic task at any day. Making now my mental health suffer. I brought these concerns to my PCP, who told me she could not help me. She told me she could not be my doctor anymore and proceeded to scream at me in this small clinic space. Having 2 disabilities that effect my movement. Drop foot, and DDD. I was truly scared. I didn't know what she would do to me. I couldn't stand, nor protect myself. She screamed at me that because of my concerns, nobody would ever help me. She continued this behavior for 15 minutes. She continued to elaborate her opinion of who I am as a person after only seeing me on one other occasion. In the midst of her outburst she stated,"the appointment was not going to end well" I also have ear issues so bad that I have had 2 sets of tubes placed and removed from my eardrum. Leaving damage to my eardrum. Which causes hearing loss and sensitivity to certain noises. She continued to scream at me as I cried. Balling my eyes out. I was confused, scared, depressed. I can't make this up. I have also lost almost all of my beautiful hair due to my illness. I wear a bandana to cover up the embarrassment. I tried to dull the noise by placing my bandana on my bald head. Pulling the fabric over my ears. I am truly scared that the injury to my pre existing diagnosis are now irreparable due to not being treated for almost a year. Having every concern dismissed. Being belittled and lied about. I am truly sad this has been the case with this person, and for all these other patients who have had to suffer similar events with this "doctor". I have a high respect for UCD Heath, as to I am also a medical professional. I hope this was a bad apple in the midst. I received wonderful help from the Patient Relations Analyst. I look forward to working with them. I look forward to continuing my treatment with all other 12 of my doctors with UCD Health. In search for answers. I still have faith that there will be someone within UCD that can help me after the 12 years of appointments I've attended. Please take action. People are suffering in more ways than one because of this one bad apple.

On a repeat visit, she slapped her knee with pride and said she thought she had found the diagnosis. It was awful. Disfiguring, treatable but not curable. I was stunned. At home I found a website with a presentation on the disease complete with photos. I tried to tell her I didn't look like those photos. She had prescribed a medication, after that totally ghosted me. I messaged her through the portal to change the medication from cream to ointment but got no response. Eventually I showed up at her office and was told she wasn't in and they didn't know when she would be back. I asked if another doctor there would make the minor change to the prescription and was declined. I was completely on my own. Since the diagnosis she handed me was gynecological, I procured my own referral to a gynecologist who thankfully tested and ruled out Dr Duncan's diagnosis. I'm still in disbelief that she saddled me with such an awful diagnosis then turned her back on me. I took it as cowardice. She came up with something she couldn't handle and instead of suggesting a specialist, she dropped me without explanation. I felt betrayed.

From physical health and mental health follow-up to follow-up, I just keep getting things dropped on me that I wasn't previously aware of. One doctor canceled our physical health exams that we had scheduled SIX MONTHS in advance and now pawns all of his work onto his "close assistant nurse." I don't even know if he works there anymore. Have we been informed of anything or given a new primary doctor? No. It's just the nurse running the whole show. Not that nurses aren't valid practitioners, but the schooling is different. And now different antidepressants are just being thrown at me without the guidance of a doctor or psychiatrist until we find something that works. Referrals and other care- I was referred to a nutritionist who treated me extremely passive aggressively and then said she would send me up to her manage for more adequate treatment. This was a lie. I never heard from any such manager. I was also apparently referred to psychiatry. I didn't know about this referral until the next follow up when the nurse-doctor suddenly asked me about if I had heard anything. I haven't. I was told to talk to Behavioral Health about it. I did. They said they don't do that. Point blank period. They can't do anything until they get the referral which has been floating in the void since AUGUST apparently. The schedulers in the behavioral health department are just downright rude and dismissive. It's like talking to a brick wall. My therapist said she wanted to meet every friday over zoom. Scheduler said "No. She doesn't do zoom appointments on Friday." I say that I had one last week. And my intake was over zoom on a FRIDAY. "She makes exceptions sometimes." Are we lying now? Were my friday zoom appointments not real? Did i become an "exception" TWICE?? Then the scheduler proceeded to very rudely try to schedule me for a Tuesday when i requested Thursday because I work Tuesdays. I had to specifically ask for the next Thursday even though me preferring Thursday since Friday is apparently unavailable was already established. Oh yeah, and apparently I gotta go get blood work done. Like I was supposed to several weeks ago but I WAS NEVER INFORMED. And that was treated like it was my fault for not getting it done. When i was trying to get a sleep study referred, the nurse-doctor was fairly combative when asking me if I snored or had sleep apnea. She then said that unless I do, she can't get me a sleep study. Didn't say anything about trying to refer me. But then I got a letter in the mail that a study was approved. We really are just lying for the love of the game here huh.

Since Dignity Health bought Mercy Medical Group patient care requirements have decreased due to…read moretheir inability to develop a process for patient replacement when their Primary Care Physician leaves the group. I was shocked to experience such poor planning when we are talking about "my future healthcare" requirements. Further, I was told to get my own new PCP and sent me an insensitive letter "telling me" to find one with the short list that wouldn't accept My excellent health insurance. Since then, it's gotten worse. Several of my family and friends also had the same PCP, we are all in our 70's, we pay for our healthcare and Dignity has no dignity. I have been with MMG over 25 years but the new "robots" they call doctors now do Not represent human kindness. Specifically, I gave Dignity the word "human kindness" during a volunteer focus group at the 3000 Q Street facility when they first usurped the local medical community. My exact words were, when asked the question what do you really want.....My response was, I don't want sympathy, I don't even want empathy, I JUST WANT HUMAN KINDNESS. Within 60 days of that meeting, my words, were plastered all over Sacramento on buses, elevators, on TV, employee garments, etc. Did they ask me if it was okay to quote MY words? I said yes as I was walking out of the room and was never acknowledged for my contribution. How very rude when they are not practicing what I preach! How unspeakable it is for our doctors who must "diagnose and treat" each patient in 15 minutes, they get 30 minutes for an annual. 25 plus years as a Patient,98.9% of my Mercy Doctors were wonderful, loving, caring human beings who showed their human kindness in ways that seem to have disappeared in the midst of video appointments and lack of time. No more personal touches. I can't even call their administration office because they are cold and so above the money they make off the elderly patients like me. It seems their poor business practices have taken them by surprise, cowards. Oh they do have a a "Patient Advocate", but she who is supposed to represent thousands, should get back to you in 48 hours! However, if you think you are in dire straits go to the ER, where they do nothing while you wait for hours to be told so? What is wrong with this picture? Next, This is the travesty! 6 days ago when Dr. Cold was notified that a 15 plus years of taking this medication had been overlooked. In 2 days I entered my own prescribed medication withdrawals with every side effect I found on Wikipedia. No one called me to explain that I could die but they are, were, what??? Another interesting fact, Sutter is having the same problem. We will change providers in October. UCDavis is looking good

In fact, when I persisted in requesting something else, or something I could take just as needed, my former doc *yelled* at me in the exam room. The side effects of that medication were intolerable, so I stopped taking it and just struggled along for several more years. Finally our insurance changed, and the hubs found Dr. Grove... At my first visit I literally cried in her office, just because she heard me, heard what I was saying (Dr's often hear what they think, not what is actually being said), understood my aversion to medications, and didn't judge me for not wanting to take a daily pill. She actually worked with me as an individual to create a plan that took my quirks into account. I never feel rushed in our appointments either, which is another common Dr. gripe that I have- they want to get you in the exam room, take the vitals, write a Rx and/or schedule tests and get you out asap. Not so with Dr. Grove, she listens, asks questions, and learns about her patients to give the best care. I'll only go to Dr. Grove for the rest of my life, if at all possible. Highly recommend!!
