I have lived in Davis since I was very little and have grown up here. I have dealt with police in…read moremany places on many occasions and this police department is the best I have ever encountered. They are incredibly professional and respond pretty quickly considering their numbers. I do not have police in my family and I am a very pro 2nd Amendment, small government, and individual freedom. These things would usually conflict with love for police departments but Davis PD is very open and they do not abuse their power, at least in my opinion. This contrasts greatly with our Sheriff and our neighboring UC Police (both of which I have had bad experiences with). In Jr. High I was held at gunpoint by Carl's Jr. by several Davis PD and the Sheriff's Department. Someone thought I had a gun (I didn't) so of course, the police had to respond. Despite the felony stop and the unpleasant experience, I felt that they did their job and did not go beyond their power. No, the cuffs were not comfortable and being on the pavement sucked too, but compliance kept my mom and me alive and well. I have been unlawfully detained many times by UC Davis police and I think to have that many officers that do not know the law and to have such unprofessional officers on the force, is a disgrace. They seem more like a bunch of "bros" than professional peace officers. To be fair, I am judging these experiences from 4+ years ago; they have not bothered me since. Chief Black was an awesome Chief for many years and now we have Chief Pytel who is doing a great job as well. Davis PD also offers a free Citizen's Police Academy where you learn about your rights and about the different departments in the police department. I highly recommend people to take this course to learn about your rights. All police departments deal with scumbags and the people that we do not want to have to deal with. I judge the police on how they deal with these encounters and then how they treat the law-abiding citizens who request help. If they're constantly an a-hole, they probably should not be a police officer. Davis PD is not perfect by any means. The police should not be solving all of our problems anyways. However, these guys and gals do their jobs very well and I hope they keep up the good work they do for our community.

A DMV Visit That Didn't Feel Like a DMV Visit Let's be…read morehonest--nobody wakes up excited to go to the DMV. That's exactly why I felt this location deserved a review. I stopped by the Davis DMV without an appointment and was pleasantly surprised by how quick and efficient the entire process was. From the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out, my entire visit took just 54 minutes. For a DMV visit without an appointment, that's pretty impressive. The location itself isn't very large, which actually seemed to work in its favor. Everything felt organized, and the flow of customers moved much faster than I expected. What really stood out was the customer service. The staff was friendly, patient, and genuinely helpful. At one point, I realized I was missing an important document and thought my visit was about to take a turn for the worse. Instead, they allowed me to run out to my car to grab it and held my place rather than making me start the process over or wait behind additional customers. That level of understanding made a stressful situation much easier. The only reason this isn't a full 5-star review is the restroom situation. The bathrooms are definitely on the smaller side and have a bit of an old-school feel to them. If you're a germaphobe, you may want to bring a paper towel or rag to open the door on your way out. Overall, this was one of the smoothest DMV experiences I've had. Fast service, helpful employees, and a total visit time of only 54 minutes is not something you hear every day when talking about the DMV. If you're dreading a DMV trip and don't have an appointment, give the Davis location a shot. They won't make you love going to the DMV--but they might make you hate it a whole lot less.

Today I had to scan a QR code in order to get a place in line. The place in line consisted of a letter and a two digit code. But this time it wasn't on a sheet of paper. It was a webpage, https://mt-cadmvoas.us.qmatic.cloud/branches complete with the position in the queue. Yeah, I'd forgotten to make an appointment but this went OK. Had enough time to wait for the numbers and letter to be called out. Sadly, I'd left one of the signature boxes left empty so I had to go get a valid signature. Upon leaving, the desk lady gave me a QR code in order to get a place "in line" (virtually) before I returned! Still had to wait a bit when I got back. But the text message system tries to get you back on time. Anyways, took care of all my business and we're good to go for another year at least. It's a very decent DMV office.

It was different then in both the good and bad of it. At the time, I didn't like Davis.. and I really hated the commute from Sac those 4 years. It was more bicycle friendly- so moving around to shop or eat, or go to a park for a lunch time walk was a lot more of a breeze. It even had a sign on Richards Blvd off I-80 going into town about Davis being the bicycle capital of the world (I'm paraphrasing, but, something to that effect) Road Traffic in Davis was minimal. It was always a fun place to grab some food. I will always give David credit for the variety of restaurants here! Fast forward to 2023...I absolutely adore Davis! I drop in from time to time to eat or stop by Trader Joe's for pure nostalgia. LOL. I remember getting around most of Davis pretty well without GPS. Absolutely hate the road traffic! There's cars EVERYWHERE!! Funny how time changes things. LOL.

Everyone else kind of takes a long time. Today there was lack of communication with the workers. The Korean lady helping me had issues with her printer 2x. She seemed flustered and told me to wait for the other worker (who was scanning and moving packages)... there was a man behind me so I wasn't sure if I should wait behind him or if I was still next, because the Korean lady didn't even tell her coworker what was going on. For about 3 long minutes the man and I stood around looking at both of them. It wasn't until the other worker noticed me and made eye contact with me that she asked the Korean woman if she was going to help us. Then the Korean woman finally mentioned her printer wasn't working... A simple "hey coworker my printer isn't working can you please help the customers" would have been nice.

This place is very organized, bathrooms are clean, and another plus is that they have water bottle fillers which is really convenient. Another plus is that they also have a mini cafe where you can buy food like pastries, snacks, and beverages. Though this place can be a bit crowded at times, I usually find a place to sit whether its on a chair/couch or the floor. A good place to study or use their computer when you need it.

And I have a friend who loves libraries. Turns out libraries are great places to work. In the UC Davis library is fantastic. It has more study space than most libraries, even university libraries. It's perfectly laid out. It's immaculately clean. There are plenty of electrical plugs for your laptop. There are rooms where you could have a small gathering and chat, and there are areas where you can study or work quietly . There's a museum exhibit on the main floor with an interesting display related to agriculture and food. Parking on the UC Davis campus is allegedly very easy, as long as you're willing to pay.

Shields Library is a neat library located on the UC Davis campus. It's open to the public. Parts of…read morethe building and elevators feel a bit dated, but that adds to its character and charm. It's a great place to wander around and explore. I loved looking at the collection of old books. There's a lot of space and seating for studying, reading, or relaxing. There are exhibits in the lobby too that were interesting.
