This is my new favorite parking garage as it's near the Orpheum, City Hall, Symphony , the Ballet and UC Hastings. We came on a Saturday to watch The Lion King and it was only a block and half away. It felt cleaner than most garages and well kept . Also felt safer! Rates were $8 per hour for a max of $32. Not bad for safety and convenience ! The worker in the office today is just terrible. I often have to park here and he is always so hostile. Always scowling. Never helps. Won't get up and do anything. Calls insulting names. Tries to close the garage before the actual closing time for the day even on holidays when it might be different. I think he doesn't like my race and that's partly why I'm getting such bad treatment. He was demanding extra money. When something bad happens to one of us customers he laughs and he thinks it's funny. It's not just that he isn't doing work. They have an awesome $8 all day rate on Sundays. This is perfect for me when I go visit my son. The spot is conveniently located near City Hall, Symphony, Museum and UC Hastings. The only drawback is that a lot of their spots are reserved and compact on the lower levels. But even with that, there have been plenty of spots for me to park. A real live cashier is available on the first floor to assist you with payment, but they also have a machine. There is an elevator and stairs for use. To date my car has never been broken into or vandalized in any way. Here's What I Think... For all the times I can't get a street park, this is the place I choose. The good: -Great location near City Hall, Asian Art Museum, Superior Court, Library and many other places including the UN. -Very clean (for a parking garage) and well-marked signage and striping -Fairly, ahem, "reasonable" prices with a $27/max (see attached pics) -Secure building as you can't re-enter without scanning a parking ticket at the door -Philz Coffee™ on the bottom floor The Bad - Payment machine is credit card only; not a biggie but some people might prefer cash -Lots of homeless around the building but again that's SoP for SF The Ugly -Those SF parking prices. Oy gevalt... This is probably as good as it gets for SF parking garages. Highly recommended for a day at the museum. read more

Access is weird and parking usually means a drive to the very top floor and then you better get lucky. Coming back on foot was strange and thankfully they had a few signs to navigate the gates to get to the pay station. Not sure about the price as a couple hours ran me $24 and the whole day would have been $32 ... nice marketing I guess. read more

The best part of the garage is Ryan, the manager. He's always cheerful, efficient, and helpful. He is able to explain easily the quirky way that I have to pay for the garage by partly using my tax advantaged credit card and then partly by my regular credit card. And the rest of the staff are also very helpful as well. They often are out front and say hi as I drive in. The garage is also kept incredibly clean! read more

I parked here for an evening event Saturday. I noticed that the garage closed at 11 and I asked one of the attendants if I would still be able to get my car out after that time. He walked me over to a gated door and told me that after that time, all I would need to do is swipe my ticket to open the gate and pay. When I returned to my car after the event, I swiped my ticket and it didn't work. I called the number on the ticket and they told me there would be a $100 fee for someone to come down and open the gate for me. Apparently this happens often. The attendant did not tell me this and as a result I had to pay $100 to get my car back. Do not park at this garage if you plan on staying past 11! This is unacceptable. If the attendant had warned me of this outrageous fee, I would have gotten my car out by 11 or parked elsewhere. I had a friend who attended the same event and paid only $4 by parking at the Civic Center Garage across the street. Even though the Civic Center Garage closes at 12 AM, the gates are automated as they should be to exit unlike this garage which locks your car in and charges you $100 to get it back. The sad thing is that I was not the only one that night that fell victim to this parking trap. Another couple was also locked out and required to pay $100 to get their car out. We asked if we could split the fee but we were told it was $100 per car. I highly recommend parking at the Civic Center garage if you are attending an event between 6 PM and 12 AM because their rates are super reasonable and affordable compared to this garage. Update: I emailed them at parking@uchastings.edu and submit a feedback survey and still haven't heard back from them. It is highly doubtful that I will get by $100 back. I feel like I was robbed. :( This is one of the few times I wish there was a zero star option on Yelp. read more

Decent parking structure, but if you're staying here for a long period of time, they will get your wallet like nothing you could have imagined. They are not going to take it easy on you if you want to stay longer. However, the structure is relatively clean and easy to navigate. It's not that large, but again it's clean and you need your ticket to get in, so most of the time you won't have strangers just walking and trying to open your car doors. You need to park and are in the area, then this is a safe bet. read more

If someone asked me what type of establishment I review the most on Yelp, I would have to say that it would definitely be restaur....I mean parking garages. Finding myself at different client sites all the time, I am always looking for reliable parking garages nearby. And for the past week, I've been consistently parking at the Civic Center garage since it was the only clean, space, and spacious parking garage that I knew of in this immediate area. It wasn't even till today when I had to Google street view way my to a nearby site for this client that I accidentally stumbled upon this garage! While I wish I discovered this garage sooner, the price certainly can't be beat! Unlike the Civic Center Garage where I pay $29 for all day parking (or $35 if I stay past 12hrs), early bird rates (in by 9am, out by 6pm) here at UC Hastings Parking Garage is only $18! And while the garage spaces themselves aren't quite as wide as the ones in the Civic Center Garage, they aren't as tight as many of the garages found throughout the city. The lower levels of this garage does fill up pretty quickly, and when I arrived at 8:30 in the morning, I still had to circle all the way up to the 5th floor before I found a spot to park. The interior of this garage is pretty clean and well lit, and doors require your parking pass for reentry, which helps to keep people who don't belong out. Make sure to pay for your ticket before leaving the garage. Pay machines are located on the first floor. Hours here are Mon-Sat 7am-11pm, and Sun 7am-9pm. read more

Their rates are reasonable and, compared to other parking garages, they keep this one pretty clean. The two bottom floors are pretty much all occupied by federal law enforcement vehicles. I arrived one morning at ten til 7 a.m., and I still had to park on the 3rd floor. Whatever. On the bright side, there's plenty of spaces of different sizes, so, unless you drive a semi, finding a spot is just a matter of time. It's $15 (early bird) if you get in before 9 a.m. If not, you're pretty much paying over $20. Have you watched the movie Safe House? Well, this garage, when I use it, sometimes feels like a safe haven when walking the lovely streets of the TL at night. Just a few days ago, 7 people got shot in the TL. On the same night. Great. To enter the garage to retrieve your car, you have to swipe your parking ticket to open the locked gates. Once in, everything is super clean. In fact, this is one of the cleanest garages I have ever seen. Likely because its only a few years old. At press time, early bird (in before 9) is $15, which is par for the course in this area. You pay at a kiosk before heading to your car. Large stalls with a smattering of compacts. Bonus is the Philz Coffee on ground level. I don't know...not much else you can say about concrete and rebar. read more

It is weird but true. I have a favorite garage and this is it. The staff is super friendly and always available. Yesterday morning when I couldn't reach the ticket machine from my car, one of the employees saw me and walked all the way over to get the ticket and hand it to me. Now that is good customer service. The early bird parking rate has gone up to $13, but it is still a good deal, considering the convenience of the location, the well maintained lot, and the attentiveness of the staff. It seems the staff really cares about its customers. Also, the main pedestrian access from the street requires one to swipe one's garage ticket at two different locations in order to get into the garage which is a good way to prevent unwelcome guests. I have always felt that both my car and I are safe here which is not something I can say about most garages in San Francisco. read more

Nothing worse than having a bad experience parking in SF. We had tickets for the Orpheum Theater and after a little research chose the UC Hastings Garage. It turned out to be an excellent choice. The garage is clean, well lit and the attendant was friendly and monitoring what was going on. It is a short two block walk from the garage to the Theater. We arrived mid afternoon and left at 11:00 pm. The cost was $27.00 which is the maximum and for a safe and attended garage is IMO a very good value. read more

DO NOT PARK HERE AT NIGHT. They will lock your car up overnight and charge you extra, and won't tell you they are closing soon even when they know you are going to a concert at the Bill Graham Auditorium. I called their number when I saw the garage was locked and they said "tough luck, come back tomorrow." Live next door and have a monthly parking pass. The garage is new (finished late July '09) and very clean. The people who work in the garage are SUPER friendly and very helpful. They greet you everyday and help you out if you need it (one of the gentlemen helped me carry a large box all the way to my apartment!). I genuinely feel safe going in and out of the garage and that is something you can't say about many garages in the City. The hourly rates are decent as well, compared with the Civic Center garage across the street. $2 for the first hour is great and the early bird/flat rate is only $10. There is going to be some sort of shop/restaurant/something opening hopefully soon at the base of the garage (the side facing Golden Gate). I'm crossing my fingers for a market! read more

Awful don't park here. What a nightmare. Event parking had to prepay $20 in cash and was not told that there was a time limit. When came to retrieve car the garage was locked. There are numerous other parking garages with their closing times stated explicitly. In fact chose this one because did not have one. Sign says $100 to retrieve after hour. When called, told $50 to retrieve. The difference in itself is suspect and sketchy. Came back the next morning to retrieve it, but a written paper sign said would be open at 5 p.m. I'm not from the city so had to spend the whole day here when I did not want to or need to. Was then charged $27 overnight fee finally. read more

Doesn't have a sign with it's hours, and locked my car in, leaving me stranded in bad part of SF with dead phone and no access to my car. They posted that for $100 they would let me get my car out, but with a dead phone that wasn't helpful. If they are going to lock you out, they should post their hours so customers like me don't get blindsided and stranded. read more

I have been a monthly parker at this garage for the 2 years and have not had a single problem. The garage is extremely safe for the neighborhood I have not had a single problem with someone messing with my vehicle. The staff that works here is also extremely friendly. Parked here as it was the closest parking to the S.F. Passport Agency across the street. Parked for an hour in the morning (9am) and for an hour the following afternoon (3pm), definitely more open spaces in the afternoon. Keep your parking ticket with you, as you use the yellow ticket to unlock the doors to re-enter the garage and prepay before departing. Did not stay overnight (closes at 11pm), but garage seems pretty clean and secure while we were there. read more

I love this garage. It is really close to everything downtown and is very reasonably priced. Most of all, the staff is super friendly and helpful. I was suprized to find such excellent customer service from a garage. I definetly recommend it because it is really safe and a great place to park. I park here all the time, especailly since it is close to the courthouse, the federal and state buildings and UC Hastings. I even park here to go to the Farmers Market. When I was on my way out, a very kind gentleman ran up to the gate and even inserted my card for me. Now that's service!!! Since this garage opened, I have not received any more parking tickets on the streets and have had no more damage to my vehicle. These are well worth spending a few dollars to park in a high tech garage. I wouldn't park anywhere else. read more

Beware of after hour parking!!! I was not told or a sign that says if you are past 9PM you have to pay 100 dollars for a gentlemen to come walking, and let you out!! I would completely understand if there were signs posted at the entrance that says you would be locked in. What made the situation worst is that it isnt even a nice area to be at after hours and with a child. I took an uber to get there since i was visiting and i have visited in the past. The UC Hastings Parking Garage is located on Larkin @ Golden Gate. It all day flat rate is only $10 if you are in before 9am! And you can stay until 6pm with that rate too. Super cheap. Much better than the Civic Center Garage which is $3 an hour. Perfect for Jury Duty service at 400 McAllister because you have to report at 8:45am. read more

Never use this garage for a long stay. They are greedy and controlled by computers that designate time. You pay no matter what. Early bird special is now $14, but if you stay a minute past 7pm (which happened to me for work reasons) I was charged $24 -- maximum rate. Not $2 for an extra hour... full fare. This isn't the first time I've been dinged this way at this garage. Staff may be friendly but they still give no leeway at all. I'm never going back. read more
