I've lived in Escondido for a year and a half, I've visited 3 or 4 other places for a pedicure but some do a subpar job and some don't even use clean tools. I came across UCare Nails Bar this past weekend to get a pedicure and my experience was great. I walked in they got me in right away, the salon was clean, they had clearly marked soiled tools and used a freshly opened sterilized pack of tools, they had a wide range of colors, the staff was nice and Jesse who did my pedicure took her time to do a good job. I got a pedicure with gel polish with a spa pedicure and callus treatment. It was amazing. Very happy with the results. Even got a massage with lotion. I haven't been to this salon since they moved. It is really nice and clean inside. I had a spa pedicure with callous treatment and gel manicure. Both the estheticians did a great job. The only thing is the prices went up quite a bit at this place. I paid almost $20 more than what I pay at other places. It was $91 for both, $40 for gel manicure plus $51 for pedicure with callous and flowers. Ughhhh!!! At these prices I won't be going back here. read more

One of the worst nail care experiences I've had yet. I called in to make an appointment and the person over the phone was very nice. I picked this place because the reviews were relatively good and it's close to home. I needed to get my nails done last minute for my baby shower. Yes, I waited last minute but I just couldn't find the time earlier in the week to go. I called UCare to see if they could take me and I scheduled with them for an hour later appointment time. I arrived and waited 25 minutes for them to take me. They were busy which makes me think why would they schedule me for that time if they're busy. I just wanted a super basic regular pedicure and gel manicure, no designs, nothing fancy. They brought me back to the spa chair which I waited with no water in the tub for about another 10 minutes and then finally someone came around and started the water. I began soaking while I waited for the actual tech to do my pedicure about another 5 minutes. Pedicure started off ok. He did clip my skin on the sides which made my toe really sore for a couple days after but the paint job I don't have complaints. About 10 minutes into my pedicure a nail tech comes to do my gel manicure. I showed her the color on the chart I wanted. She asked me several times if I wanted to do a darker color before even going to grab the color because obviously she didn't like the color I chose because you have to do a few coats. I declined. I had my mind set on the color I picked. Manicure started out fine. Until it came time for her to paint and cure. Now to be honest I wasn't paying super close attention because I had my eyes closed during the foot massage trying to relax. So I didn't see her painting job. But after she finished oh my god was it bad.... I had already been there for so long! Waiting around, and then getting the actual service I just didn't have time to stick around and ask them to fix it. So I paid and left. The lady who took my payment didn't ask how my service was at all. It killed me to pay for something I was so unsatisfied with but I just couldn't spend another minute there. I needed to get on with my day. I had my baby shower in a couple hours that I still had to go get ready for. I told myself I would go back that next day or sometime that week to show them how bad it was but I never did. At 38 weeks pregnant I just don't have the patience to sit there knowing it'll probably come out crappy again. So after 1 week of my nails I went to another salon to get a new gel manicure. What was wrong with the paint job at UCare? The paint leading up to the cuticles was not uniform and it was all over the place. It was lumpy and not smooth. The edges were rough. She painted on the edges of my nail bed so the paint seeped into the side of my nails. Oh and worst part was couple of the nails were still wet under a couple coats! She didn't even cure it all the way and you know gel doesn't ever dry unless cured so those nails just completely peeled away on the same day! They were wet and sticky underneath. Overall terrible. I called this nail salon around 3:45pm and the woman who answered was very accommodating about fitting me in as a walk-in. I was supposed to arrive at 4pm but ended up getting there 10 mins later than initially expected. I was promptly greeted and asked what service(s) I was hoping to have done. I let them know I wanted a full set of acrylics, as well as a pedicure. I could see that every seat was full and so it was no shocker that I was given a projected 15 minute wait time. I want to add that I really appreciated that there was no snarky vibe, despite the fact that I came in late on a busy Sunday afternoon. I didn't mind waiting since I really needed to get my nails in better shape and I actually had the extra funds to do so. Basically I really wanted to treat myself and also get a little confidence booster since I live on a pretty tight budget that no longer includes luxury self-care services, like it once did! I looked over the selection of (mostly OPI) colors and also checked out the prices for services, that were posted visibly on the wall. There were a few things that I noticed about their services and pricing, that I wasn't super stoked that there were certain things not listed on the menu. For example they did not list the price for a basic mani-pedi. The cheapest pedicure was $28, which is pretty fricken expensive considering all it includes is foot soak and lotion massage. Even callus remover is $7 extra, when the standard is $5. I posted the prices in images. The nail technician who finally worked on my acrylics was a woman named Thao. I would not and cannot recommend her especially not for acrylics. She seemed very limited in her ability to do different types of nails but instead of admitting this she would sternly shoot down my inquiries saying things like "dip is a waste of money " or "we don't have that color. Let's try this one instead". Being that I already knew I was going to be dropping almost 100 bucks between my hands and my feet I started to get pretty angry having this girl doing my nails. The woman who did my pedicure was fantastic and sweet her name was Leanne. I must add that unfortunately BOTH the ladies doing my nails started to do that very rude thing which is continue to talk in Vietnamese, the entire time that they were interacting with me. The only communication I got from the lady doing my pedicure was she did **kindof** initially introduce herself but after that it was like talking to a wall. In the end though I decided to tip her five dollars while I tipped the other lady three dollars in ones simply bc there was a huge difference in the quality of their services. I won't be coming back here because of the huge discrepancy I experienced, with regard to services rendered and just an overall lack of common courtesy when it comes to how a business should treat its customers. My pedicure + acrylics came out to: $81 total. The acrylics were done in gel but I would have paid more for dip or cool patterns. Very disappointed. Wouldn't recommend but if you do come here Id make sure to read thru recommendations given thru other, more POSITIVE Yelp reviews and only come in if you can book w/ other people. It's really hit or miss here. Appointment times don't really matter, they will be late. I called and made an appointment, showed up 5 minutes before and the guy told me to come back in an hour... when I was FINALLY offered a chair, they sat me with Luke warm water for 20 minutes. Just water, no soap, no oils, didn't even turn on the jets. While I was sitting there, they kept answering the phone and telling people "Yes, we're not busy,come in!" One lady had called, then showed up and then they told her to come back later. She was pissed because she went way out of her way to make her appointment. Rightfully so. I usually get the pedi with the hot rocks. All of the people there (men and women) that I have had, grind the rocks on your bones. They need to take some classes. Although, Hannah was very gentle and did a good job. I've been cut three times by different people. One guy stopped in the middle of my pedicure to go smoke. He came back and made the whole salon stink. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why I keep going back. They're pricey and suck with schedules. I chose this location because the woman who answered the phone was so kind. I will return because Thao, my nail technician, was so incredibly personable and kind! For example, she went the EXTRA mile to fix my broken big toe nail. She's a miracle worker! Her overall kindness brought me to tears! Sounds silly, however finding a skilled and caring technician is nearly impossible! Went in for a last minute manicure, ended up getting acrylics because he said the look I wanted couldn't be done without them. Showed him a picture of what I wanted and he didn't give me that. He didn't explain why he just said the double French tip couldn't be done. The nails I wanted were almond shaped and he kept making them claw like. One is completely lopsided. I kept having to ask him to file them. Once the filing was done he started the French tip and I couldn't initially tell how extremely thick he made the tips.
