She trusted that his office would continue to give her the care that she received all those years. Well, she did not! She went in for a routine cleaning, they took xrays and Darren Wong did the exam. He told her that she needed a crown on her bottom right molar. She said she had no pain or discomfort or any issues with that tooth. He told her that she needed a crown because there were so many fillings on that tooth and it would crack. First of all if there is no cavity and patient has no problem what harm is there to have just monitored it? She comes in every 6 months. You can always check it every time. She trusted him and scheduled for the crown. They NEVER told her that the crown would not be covered. They NEVER even preauthorized it! Also, had they checked they would have known it would not be covered because there is a 6 month waiting period when you start a new job with the insurance. She comes in and while she is in the chair (for the procedure to start) someone comes in with an iPad and has her sign. She sees the $1700 and questions "is this with insurance?" They said "yes". She comes out to the front after the temporary crown was placed and a different person tells her that it's $1700 because her insurance didn't cover because of the 6 month waiting period! See!!!...she could have waited and then have 50% covered (She was not in any discomfort!). However after the tempoary crown was placed she was in pain for 2 weeks. She never had any pain until Darren decided to make money by putting a crown on a tooth that had no decay and was not bothering her with a reason of "it will crack". My sister in law should have been given the option to wait when it bothered her and for the insurance to cover 50%. They should have told her before scheduling her that her insurance did not cover the procedure. Just like the review from 12 months ago by Kay he just wanted money. I work and have worked with such reputable Dentist including Douglas Chang so I know what a bad one looks like....seriously, he lacks integrity! His website says "Honolulu Dentist for 40+ years??! He took over for Dr Douglas Chang in 2021. Dr Chang was the dentist of 40+ yrs not him.

He showed me all his work in this 10+ years, I was blown away. I don't remember how my teeth look like, how bad it was. He fixed all of it with his super high level of techniques and passion, and his heart from his personality. He is truly one of a kind, not in only dentistry, including any type of job which facing to customer. He and his wonderful assistant Rie, never hesitate to discuss my concerns, take a plenty of time, showing me the pictures as evidence-based. He is not cheap, but you will get more than what you paid. I'll be his patient till I die or till he retire.

Dr Nagata poked his head in, looked at the screen (X-ray) and quickly stated I would need a root canal or extraction. It all took him less than a minute. I went back into the room to speak with Colleen. I expressed that I'd like for the doctor to try to save the tooth. I specifically asked if I would be seeing Nagata and Colleen assured me I would. I made an appointment in a slot she could fit me into. Fast forward to the day of the appointment. The appointment wasn't the next day, it was a week out so I suffered a bit while I waited but I was happy that I had a doctor that removes amalgam safely. I was surprised at how congested the waiting room was and 3 others had an 11 o'clock appointment as well. I was called back 20 mins after the hour. This is when I was told I'd be seeing Dr Sato. Who is Dr Sato?? I slowly took the bib off and simply said "No. I don't know Dr Sato and I scheduled to see Dr Nagata." There was no scene or anything, I quietly got out the chair and walked back to the front. No need for dramatics. Colleen spoke to me sweetly and calmly and she was extremely polite. However, I don't buy the act for one second. I'm sure they pull this bait and switch all the time and it's unprofessional. Dr Nagata spent absolutely no time with me and Colleen lied to me, so of course I will not be returning. There are other holistic dentists on this island. I suggest you google using different combinations to pull them up. Also, another thing I did not care for is when I asked for quotes I was not given any. I should have taken that as my first red flag.

As nervous as I was Dr. Dang and his staff really put me at ease. And to my surprise, he was able to numb me up instantly!! As he started drilling, I sat there waiting for some type of pain, but nothing throughout the entire procedure, I was completely numb. Extremely impressed!! All procedures are explained ahead of time, and even on video for some. Dr. Dang is very professional, friendly and really cares, he takes time to understand how you feel before starting the procedure. If you're looking for a great dentist - look no more!
