We have been seen at UCLA at the endodontics clinic for a very complicated tooth/situation. We were primarily referred from our primary dentist, I will say it was a hassle to schedule our initial appointment as they do not pick up phone calls or returns voicemails. Your best bet is to show up in person, I recommend checking their online website prior as their hours & days may change! Parking is a bit limited in the area, there are parking lots located in front with a target and Ralph's and you can obtain parking validation inside the store. We have been seen by Dr. Andrew Sheinbaum multiple times and he did a great job ensuring our dental need and concerns were met. Very understanding & caring! It has been a journey overall but thankfully we were able to get our dental needs met at UCLA. read more

As much as I love my dentist at UCLA Dentistry, I won't be going back. The care itself has always been great, but the billing experience has been horrible. I called over the course of three weeks and left five voicemails without a single call back in order to clarify a bill I should not be paying for. Then, on the day of my appointment (only because my doctor pushed them to reach out), I was told I couldn't be seen due to an unpaid bill. This was so annoying, since my insurance had advised me not to pay because I've already met my deductible. The insurance (Blue Shield) themselves couldn't reach UCLA Dentistry billing repeatedly. Instead of helping clarify the situation, Wendy @ UCLA billing today informed me at the last minute that I couldn't keep my appointment, and the interaction felt dismissive, unkind and untruthful (she said she never listened to my voicemails). It's disappointing, because the clinical care is excellent. But dealing with this kind of communication and treatment from the billing department makes it hard to want to return. They need more professional, kind people working in the billing department to answer the phone. read more

I thought I'd post an update about this clinic. The day I was to be fitted for a crown, I had to pay over $600 before they would begin. During the crown fitting, it was determined that I needed another root canal. The process took so long I never actually got the crown, so I had a credit of over $600. I used some of it to pay for cleanings and x-rays, but after I was discharged from the program, I still had a credit balance of $297.00. It has been 2-1/2 months and I still have not gotten that money back. When I called in October, I was told it has to go through a long approval process and would take 6 -8 weeks, but it's been about 10 weeks now and still nothing. I've tried calling this week, but I get either a voice mail or no answer at all. Why do I have a feeling I'm never getting my money back? To add insult to injury, I have received a bill from them for $89.00. The invoice has no date of service and no explanation of what service was performed. I just received a second bill today. Clearly, I'm not paying it, but seriously??? When I called billing about the credit last month nothing was mentioned about this invoice, which makes it even stranger. read more

Whatever you do, DON'T go here! I was a patient at UCLA Dental School for seven years before they "discharged" me because I had too many dental issues and they "weren't doing me any favors" by continuing to treat me. I don't know why they didn't figure it out sooner. First, I want to acknowledge some absolutely wonderful student dentists. Edwin and Claire were terrific. The students who work on your teeth are usually in their fourth year. If you do get great dental students, they graduate and you'll have someone new the next year. That's no one's fault. If you go to a dental school, that's to be expected. I was fortunate Edwin was assigned to me on his third year of school and he was my dentist for two years. I had a horrible cavity on my front tooth and it was turning brown. I thought it was going to break apart. For a year I begged the students and faculty to fix it. They told me they'd have to give me x-rays and teeth cleanings before they could work on it. It just kept getting worse and they wouldn't do anything because of "protocol". They worked on other crowns and ignored the tooth. On my last day at UCLA Dental Clinic, I ran late because I take public transit which is not always reliable. Parking at UCLA costs $17 per day and the bus dropped me off right next to the clinic, so driving made no sense. I am rarely late for anything. I called ahead and let my student dentist know the bus was detouring. When I got there, the faculty member started lecturing me about being on time like I was a child. I explained I was using public transportation. She continued to berate me for being late. I finally held up my hand and said, "OK. I heard you." She left and when she came back, she told me I would be discharged and told me to find a dentist closer to home. I had no warning. Neither the faculty member (who was quite nasty) nor Dr. Biddle, who runs the clinic, took me into a private area. He said they couldn't do anything for me anymore. They waited until my teeth were in horrible shape after seven years. I had three root canals at the clinic. Two of them were so painful I was begging them for pain killers. I was awake all night. They told me to take two Advil and four Tylenol every four hours, which did nothing. I had to call my doctor who prescribed Tylenol and Codeine. I took one each day and was OK. I went in on Monday and told the faculty member about my prescription. Another faculty member walked by and sniped it was bad for my liver. The first faculty member came back and suggested two Advil and four Tylenol. I asked whether one Tylenol and codeine was harder on my liver. Dentists can legally prescribe opiods so I don't know why the faculty members wouldn't. Fortunately, I was able to get dental insurance through my husband's job. I ended up needing two crowns on my front teeth and had two cavities. If they'd worked on it sooner, I may have saved a lot of money. I also love my new dentist. I hate writing such a negative review. I went for seven years and ended up needing a lot more work on my front teeth alone than I would have if they'd just listened to me. read more

Oral surgeon was friendly and open to options for TMD, provided information and suggested PT (cranial) to try as well. It took a long time (+5 calls/3wks) to get a live person to answer phone for an appointment. Tried leaving VM msg 2x but no called back. When I got a person, It took 2 mo for a consult appt and then another 8wks for procedure/followup. Process to book an appt is REALLY long, so I would consider other options if you can afford it. Add up cost for parking/gas as well. Once there, everyone (Receptionist, DMD assistant, and DDS oral surgeon) were friendly and nice. I haven't had a procedure yet so cant comment on quality or if it's better than going to outside/private TMJ DDS/Oral Surgeons. Parking is difficult and costly. 1st app took more than 3 hrs, so street parking would be last resort if parking is full but has a 2hr limit that require a reload. read more

I think this is a good concept and can help a lot of people. I feel my experience stunk and would recommend if you do use UCLA Dental learn from my experience. I went for three years. I had a lot of problems. I was recommended a partial denture. Which is not a horrible idea, but it gave me a lisp with the metal roof of my mouth. I have to talk for my profession and it greatly fucked up my self esteem. I'm now going to Mexico and just paying to get an implant. I feel I was rushed into the decision by enthusiastic students who were looking at their needs for projects and not my needs as a patient. The students were thorough and nice, but things move extremely slow there. There was also a 3 month hold up and getting a bridge made to install. They aren't perfect, but overall super pleasant. I'm not anti UCLA Dental, I feel cleanups and inexpensive service can be extremely beneficial to the public. I would just research and due EXTREME due diligence before agreeing to any procedure. I was embarrassed to ask and I feel I paid a high price emotionally and financially for just trusting the system. read more

The motto at their clinic is "IDGAF". They have insanely terrible customer service it's honestly quite comical. I had severe pain in my tooth and that kept me up for days even with over the counter pain medicine and they pushed my appointment 7 days out from my visit with not so much as a prescription for pain or suggestion to ease it. Saying that the medicine they could give me would just make me "sleepy"..... as if that wouldn't be helpful. I had to go to another dentist who gave me antibiotics to help ease the pain and scheduled a follow up for a filling with them. I hope this place gets shut down. I am in mid-process of getting dentures. I had the oral surgery (all of my teeth had to be pulled and was not their fault) in January and I've had trouble getting in to get the final work done due to illness. Through all the process I've been treated well. I'm looking forward to getting dentures, so I'll edit this at that time, but I CAN say that I never experienced the things that so many others had. This may be the worst place to get dental work done in the entire United States. They promised me that they would remove 7 teeth and do implants if I showed up to my appointments. For 2 years, I showed up for LONG 1/2 day appointments so the dental students could take impressions, do evaluations, do dental treatment plans. The only actual dental work they did for me was to fill 1 cavity and knock off one crown by accident. Then, after 2 years, they sent me a letter discharging me as a patient, because I was not a suitable teaching case -- after they used me as a teaching case for 2 years. Then, none of the administrative people or dentists at the clinic would even return my calls or e-mails asking why they discharged me without doing the dental work I had been promised for 2 years. It's a total scam. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this clinic. The student dentists are incompetent and their supervisors don't really care if any dental work gets done or not. One of the student dentists even admitted that UCLA Dental School lures people into the clinic with promises of doing necessary dental work -- but then discharges them after the students have done practice on them for a while -- without doing any of the promised dental work. read more

I suppose if one needed a minor procedure that could wait as long as a year, then one could consider a UCLA Dental Clinic. Otherwise one risks exacerbating their dental matter (at minimum). My experience with this organisation was worst case scenario. Not only will you spend a great deal of time prior to any treatment, but you can expect deplorable treatment. After working with the organisation for a year my Dentist graduated. My next assigned dentist elected to ignore our appointments and refused to return calls. Also the cost is about the same as a discount dentist. I would not recommend either. The Post Graduate program does not have a receptionist. If you do get wait listed. You will not get a call back. Ever. If you have a complicated procedure, It will be painful and emotionally traumatic as they seem to feel that they are doing you a favour. Eventually this program will be sanctioned. Just wanted to post this for all those dealing with dental issues without enough money to address them. I had a tooth pulled yesterday at the oral surgery Dept at Ucla dentistry school. They provided great care. My appt was on time. My dentist was very skilled compassionate caring and kind & had me in and out in less then an hour. 24 hours later very little swelling & will he good for work on Monday They have reasonable fees Granted it is a school, so it's not as nice as a fancy dentist office is. But the level of care once you get in is great You have to kinda be strategic to get an appt. Be patient and don't get frustrated If your not good at dealing with being on the phone a long time just head down there and get the info in person. Hope this helps someone read more

I strongly urge you to look elsewhere for any dental care and avoid UCLA Dental Clinics. My overall experience was traumatic. I recently contacted the UCLA Dentistry clinic because I thought it would be a sensible choice for dental care, especially as someone affiliated with UCLA with UCLA health insurance. Unfortunately, I was not given any expectations from the receptionist about the type of care I would receive. When I arrived at my appointment, I was asked to sign paperwork using an electronic signature pad and without actually seeing the documents that I was signing, which were in front of the receptionist's computer screen that they did not share with me. I did not think that this was an appropriate protocol. The patient chairs in the dental clinic are lined up in rows as if it were a barber shop, which meant that there is no privacy throughout your medical visit. I saw a periodontist resident, so this person is technically done with dental school. The resident started the appointment by going through a long list of my overall medical history, asking personal questions without explaining the purpose of gathering this information. She then took my blood pressure, which I have never had at a dentist and I was thrown off. Since I was already pretty nervous at this point, my numbers were abnormally high for me. She said judgmentally, "that's very high - are you nervous?", which made me more nervous. Another person in a uniform walked into the area and started standing over my shoulder. I assumed they were another dental student who was going to be observing or assisting for my appointment, but they were not introduced to me. The resident working with me asked the student what they were doing here, so it seemed as if the resident did not have rapport with the student either. The student was then put in charge of recording information during my exam. The periodontist started poking around in my mouth, and I mean literally poking. I have never been in this much pain throughout a dental visit. The resident kept asking the student, "are you okay with the numbers? Let me know if you need me to slow down. We can go as slow as you need." The student would then repeat incorrect numbers and the resident would have to stop and make sure that the numbers were recorded correctly. I did not feel confident that the numbers were being recorded accurately, which increased my nervousness about the appointment. I was then told a long list of problems with my mouth and many procedures that were recommended to fix all of these problems. This appointment made me feel like an experiment and not a patient paying for services. read more

I got double jaw surgery, I would say everything went well bless god but the difficulty was communication it took months to connect with the surgeon and on top of that they don't except calls as a form of communication only emails which can be extremely detrimental to the patient if something is needed. I would say the students are extremely nice and tend to your needs but overall it can be scary to get a big surgery and not being able to communicate effectively with your doctor. read more

I did my root canal yesterday by Dr. Thomas Lin and he absolutely did an amazing job on my Tooth. I usually experience a lot of pain when I get numbing shots and I still feel pain after, but the way he gave me the numbing shots was not painful at all and I didn't feel anything during the whole procedure. The following day I don't have any pain and I did not take any pain medication , My face or gum didn't swallowed at all. He is very caring for his patients and CLEAN. My experience at the UCLA Venice clinic could not have been better. Dr. Gibson, a post-grad resident at the clinic, was extremely clear and patient in discussing the procedures I needed. Even more importantly, he did a great job with the actual work over several appointments. He was also straightforward about the financial side, which was a fraction of what I would have paid elsewhere. Came in to repair a chipped front tooth. Including initial intake this took 3 appointments. All of them were a nightmare to schedule, first by a phone that is rarely answered then by texting the student who was hard to pin down and ambivalent about the process. After many hours, and many individualized fees over several months, the bonding fell off within 2 days and I'm back to square one. No follow up was received and at no point did I feel like this facility or its practitioners cared about my outcome. What a nightmare this must be for those in pain and needing critical care. I was referred to this place by my dentist since he's affiliated with UCLA but I am absolutely NOT giving them my business after my horrible, shitty experience with just trying to make a damn appointment!!! If you value your sanity, time, and self-worth, avoid this place like the plague! I called to make an appointment for an initial consultation and OMG! They pick up 1 out of 10 times. Then put you on hold before you can say anything. The times I was lucky enough to actually get connected to someone, I was on hold for 30+ minutes and the second time I was on hold for 1 hour 40 minutes. This was done without x-rays. From UCLA Dental School, I received nothing. I contact Jin Hee Kwak, Clinic Director (BIG FAIL) for a Claim Damage form, and an Ethics Review. However, she replied: "I have looked at the records, and this is a 'non-refundable' deposit. This is clearly stated on the contract you signed. We are sorry that we cannot refund you this deposit." My bank wanted to help but said because the x-rays were done they could not apply a refund, suggesting I take this court as it is an issue with the service. I have absolutely no confidence in Dr. MEH, and UCLA Dental School; very SHADY. UCLA dental school is the most incompetent dental office I have ever dealt with. I needed 2 root canals. The student in the endodontics department took forever to complete them. Then, she did not communicate to me that my insurance maximum had been reached, so I was forced to pay almost $300 extra for something my insurance could have covered. Lastly, when the faculty member in the general dentistry department was trying to put on my 2nd crown, she broke my tooth and then I needed an implant. They also refused to give me a break on the cost of the implant. I contacted the faculty members but they refused to take responsibility for this. read more

Came here for about 4 years when I didn't have workplace provided insurance. The costs are low but appointment are only on weekdays. Sometimes clinics run later on Tuesday nights. Parking (during non-pandemic times) was difficult. Routine dental work was ok (cleanings, fillings) and took a while because of supervising professors checking the interns' work. However, after having a root canal done there three years ago, I found out when the root canal failed and I had to have it redone, that they drilled SIDEWAYS through the tooth instead of straight down. I was referred to see Dr. Earl Freymiller, however, every time I went to see him I would get someone else. Up to now, I've never met Dr. Freymiller. UCLA's dental appointment line (310) 825-0834 is terrible. No one ever picks up and it's always the same automated message. It is very frustrating. Call the number and see for yourself. Parking at this facility is also a pain as you have to pay each time you visit. My biggest complaint here is the inability to contact them. I'd separate this review into three parts, Overall Dental Procedure: I had my wisdom teeth removed on April 2018 and the overall procedure itself is a (5/5) for me. The dentists were very keen on educating patients about the procedure, the risks, the benefits, and different options that could be taken. They explained all the options for anesthesia, and also were very detailed about the risks of taking out one of my extra impacted tooth (which we ended up leaving untouched). The actual dental procedure went without issue. My dental surgeon was very professional and gentle, and I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out without feeling any pain. They then provided clear instructions on how to take care of the surgical sites after the procedure. Administrative/Logistic stuff: The one thing that could be improved about this place are the ridiculously long wait times. Each time I wanted to set an appointment, I had to wait anywhere from between 30 minutes to 1 hour (wait time for SETTING an appointment, not waiting for an actual procedure). One time I called their number to set up a follow up appointment, and they had me on hold for more than an hour! That was after days of calling and being only answered by a machine. It was very frustrating to deal with (1/5) Pricing: The cost of procedures for UCLA students with UC SHIP (keeping in mind the quality of dental work) are a steal! Before I had all of my wisdom teeth taken out, I asked for an estimate and what I ended up paying was even lower that the estimate that I thought was already cheap (less than $200 with general anesthesia)! (5/5) in this regard. Overall, the UCLA Dental Clinics are regarded to be one of the best at what they do. Definitely consult with them for complicated procedures, but keep in mind that the wait times may be long and frustrating to deal with. read more

You are not gonna believe this! I just received blank invoice is charging me for almost $1000 after their policy as you only pre-pay! They are literally trying to get $1000 out of me when they do not allow you to do anything but PRE PAY FOR SERVICES!! read more

The clinical care by Dr. Sherwin Arman at the UCLA Orofacial Pain Clinic has been excellent.   I'm disappointed that the front office experience has been completely different from the clinical experience; the front office's disorganized and unprofessional business processes have prevented me from accessing medical care.  Maria claimed to have sent me bills (which I never received); when I tried to get clarification and details on my outstanding balance, Maria got angry and frustrated multiple times - and once on a recorded line with my insurance company and me.  The insurance agent herself was appalled by Maria's behavior.   Since trying to become a new patient, most of my calls to OFP have gone to voicemail; the office has not consistently returned voicemails or emails, and getting a response requires multiple tries.  The office has not processed insurance reimbursement checks in a timely fashion, yet requires for the balance to be settled before scheduling future patient appointments.  My insurance company has tried to reach out to them multiple times with no response; my insurance company agrees that they should not have denied me services.   Even though they are currently an in-network provider for me and I should only be responsible for a specialist co-pay, the office wants to charge me the full cash amount for the visit until I meet my out of pocket maximum - a practice I've never heard of.  My insurance company is also confused by what the office believes as well.   Due to this difficulty working with the office at OFP and my not being able to see Dr. Arman, I still have not been able to use the orthotic I spent $850 on. read more
