Deep down though, I do love you. I LOVE YOU FOR... * Giving me my first MacBook with a gorgeous student discount. * Providing me with a Conair hairbrush that magically disappeared and absorbed somewhere in my room. * The random Hello Kitty/Sanrio section that totally seems out of place. * Selling me flowers, cards, and TY Beanie Babies to allow me to provide random acts of kindness for friends. * Giving me the best UCLA organizer/planner that allowed me to pencil EVERYTHING, I mean, literally everything in so I can have a scheduled life to follow. I attended UCLA as an undergrad, during which time the Bookzone served as an air conditioned oasis to rest my pretty little head in between strenuous classes of diametric range, from Molecular Toxicology (Art History of West Africa) to Thermodynamics (History of the Byzantine Empire). From classic lit, to prep books, to fashion & music mags to gossip rags and book bags, the Bookzone has it alll. While I struggle to remember much from the copious reading and research I was assigned to during those academic years, I will forever, (or at least until dementia sets in) remember the piercing, poignant article that Vibe Magazine wrote on T.I. while he was being brought up on charges for possession of machine guns. (YOLO, anyone?). So a few years later, when Grad School beckoned, and it seemed that only an MBA would be able to cure the years of self inflicted damage I accrued by not being more realistic (read: mercenary) in choosing a major, the Bookzone and I met again, though admittedly, under less joyous circumstances. Gone were the measured studies of the Harper's Bazaar spread, the titillating Vanity Fair reads, and the lustful gazes of the shoe section of Vogue; all those carnal pleasures were replaced with the abominable but necessary "How to Teach Your Catastrophically Liberal Arts Infested Brain a Thing or Two About Deceptively Tortuous Mathematical Calculations Meant to Bring You Within an Inch of Your Life". Nothing, not even parallel parking, took me this long to master. Fuckng hell. While quantitative analysis became my own personal Abu Ghraib, and standardized Testing, the Pol Pot in my life, the Bookzone still managed to give me a glisten of pleasure, albeit an ephemeral one. It is by far the most superior choice when it comes to accessing a variety of material, as it houses a greater range of selection then Barnes & Noble, at least in prep books. Since Amazon has annihilated the vast majority of the bookstore field (wonder if Joe Fox has gone to the mattresses), UCLA's Bookzone is a GREAT one stop shop for whatever your book needs may be. From MCATS and GMATS, to the scientific study of Dingbats, to historical books, to embarrassingly pleasurable and shallow reads like the Autobiography of Kris Jenner (which for the record, I have never read. Although I do watch all 438 Kardashian shows, so that really does not make the situation better), this place is a gem. Also, the staff here is bar none. Unbelievably sweet kids, amazing service and Juwon, the manager, is absolutely, hands down one of the greatest assets the bookstore has! In conclusion: YAY Bookzone. Poo on Math. read more

First off, a disclaimer: I worked for the UCLA Computer Store in Ackerman for 3.5 years - basically my entire time at UCLA so I'm just a little biased. Just a little... The UCLA Store has everything you could possibly want if you were a UCLA student who is too lazy to trek to Westwood and beyond. There's Market, for all your fooding needs while on campus; Bookzone, with books for leisure; Bearwear, with anything and everything with a UCLA logo on it; a Clinique counter for the makeup fiends; and, of course, my very own Computer section where we well iPods, Macs and PCs. Now, blurb about the computer section: You can only buy stuff here if you're affiliated with the university (student/staff/faculty) so if you're just wandering off the street and want to buy an awesome Macbook, you're out of luck. It's because of the academic discounts - nothing personal - but you can get iPods if you want (that's the only thing we're not restricted to sell). It's really cool that the UCLA Store sells so many things but there's one downfall with all of this: each section hires and trains their own people. So if you're in the computer section and want to know about UCLA sweatshirts, we're just going to send you in that direction. Each individual section knows NOTHING about the other ones so your best bet is to go to the nearest counter that sells whatever you're looking for. Also, since it's on campus, prices here tend to be a little bit higher than you would get outside. UCLA gear has always been super pricey but even things like food or pens and such are more expensive since you're basically paying for the convenience of it being located on campus. Even so, if you just need to pickup something really quick and you don't feel like walking to Westwood Village, the UCLA Store is a great alternative! read more

I've been to more than my share of university (book)stores, and I gotta say that UCLA tops them all. It took me several visits to explore its vastness. As expected, they carry overpriced textbooks, overpriced UCLAized clothing (charmingly referred to as BearWear), and overpriced school supplies. And I'm sure there are computers and other techie goodness somewhere within...I just haven't made it to that part of the store yet. But check this out...there's a shoe store. A SHOE STORE. ?! A whole section dedicated to stationery that you would be proud to send to anyone you know, grandma included. Non-stick pans in a variety of colors to match your shabby "decor." An entire wall of coolers stocked with everything from highly caffeinated hype-you-up drinks to fresh juices in 1,001 flavors, additives excluded. And that inflatable globe you absolutely don't need? If you've got the cash, you can get that here too. Really, I find this place mindboggling in its comprehensiveness. I haven't even mentioned textbooks yet, given I have never needed to purchase one at this particular campus bookstore (yay!). But they're here, too. And finally, the books... I've been to bookstores that had less inventory than the UCLA Store. Really (and yes, bookstores like that always make me feel cynical and sad). You will pay more if you insist on purchasing a book here, but it's difficult to resist. There's a sale section, true, but in my experience it's spotty at best. (My big score thus far: a linguistic and narrative analysis of agoraphobia for $3. If that doesn't get you out of the house...oh, never mind.) They carry many of the deliciously pretentious academic tomes we nerds are so fond of, not to mention graphic novels (still nerdy...), books of NYT crossword puzzles (nerdy...check), and anatomy coloring books (I accept my nerdiness). When I feel the need for spending an hour or two reading someone else's books and then possibly buying one if I've been really, really good, I prefer this place to Borders or B&N. What I really love about the UCLA Store though, even more than all of the above put together, is the people who frequent it. I'm talking about the students sitting in the chairs smack-dab in the middle of the store studying/socializing, the undergrads who full-on SLEEP sprawled on the floor in between aisles of bookshelves, and hot residents in scrubs who are totally not your type but who you nevertheless feel an electrical connection with as your hands meet over a dropped book. High priced UCLA gear, priced for the buyer on a student budget, right? NOT. Bought a UCLA t-shirt for $18. Forget the sales rack, hardly anything good-looking on sale and unless you're a XL, nothing available in common S, M sizes. They have the most obscene amt. of UCLA logo stuff - mugs, golf balls, blankets, clothes (lots of them), shoes, umbrellas, pens/pencils, magnets, keychains, even stuff for the dog! Much more school logo merchandise compared to CAL. The store's prettyclean and spacious but don't expect to find any floor help and the cashiers are pretty much students, some behave as if they're doing you a favor by being there. We found a store on the border of campus while walking back to Westwood which carry UCLA logo wear priced much more reasonably. It's located a block from the UCLA D. Geffen Med Center, but most of the smaller sizes were sold out and the clerk had no clue when new stock was coming in. read more

No one wants to relive the horror of going down to the campus bookstore to purchase $1,200 worth of textbooks every year. By the time one graduates, a return visit to the campus bookstore is like going back to scene of your worst childhood memories. None of my worst childhood memories involved $1,200 or the indignity of selling back the books after the quarter for pennies of what I bought it for. L.A. is not known for legendary bookstores. The only one I can honestly think that's worth a damn to the national literari set is Hennessy & Ingalls with its uniquely exquisite comprehensive focus on art and architecture books and the hipster fave Skylight Books in Los Feliz. As Borders and Barnes & Noble batten down the hatches and reduce inventory of non-bestselling books, I flinched at the thought that I would have to get used to reading whatever Oprah likes or whatever Dean Koontz writes or stay at home at look at internet porn ALL DAY. I'm a literate cat who likes to read stupid useless shit on the most mundane possible topics I can think of. Once, I got so immersed in reading about Eastern Europe travel guides for example that I've felt like I've known enough to not bother visiting. UCLA Bookzone is a Library of Congress of assigned class reading. But you know what? Free from the context of an academic setting, I remember assigned textbooks to be very interesting and opens up worlds that you never thought you'd bother to visit. UCLA Bookzone is notorious for its high pricing, 100% of the time it is cheaper to buy it at Amazon. Ugh god who cares about finishing this review. It's been sitting here for like weeks. Alright, feel like I need to respond to some of the things said in other reviews. First off, BookZone is separate from the UCLA Textbook store. BookZone sells trade books, the textbook store sells the books assigned for classes. BookZone is on the ground floor/B level of Ackerman, textbooks are on the A level. Prices are not marked up--they are sold at the price set by the publisher. If you've never worked in a bookstore before, let me assure you--stores do not mark up prices. And there is no great margin on selling books...places aren't getting rich. You may not get the 40% off on a list price that you've come to expect from Amazon, but then you're actually going to a real bookstore and looking around. BookZone used to be a great bookstore. New Times LA (if anyone remembers what that is) named it the best independent bookstore in LA in the early 2000s. Since then its footprint has been severely cut back to make room for Adidas-branded UCLA clothing, and for gifts as part of the Market in the UCLA Store. You can still find popular books, as well as a decent selection of academic books...and considering that even Barnes & Noble locations on the Westside are closing, this is probably the best you can ask for in today's bookselling market. read more

Excellent university books store that sells not only books but school supplies, electronics, logo sportswear and clothing plus edibles. This is by far the nicest university bookstore I have seen. I use it all the time, long after being a student. When I got a computer here and had an issue with it, there was no problem whatsoever with resolving it and customer service was excellent. read more

As a current student, I stop by there a lot. Customer service is horrible. I deduced their store model must be "it's not my job". It isn't understaffed, but it seems like people who work there don't take their jobs seriously. I needed a different sized shirt, so I asked an employee. They told me that they are not in that department and have no idea what to do. When I asked where all the cashiers for that department were, they didn't know nor did they try to find out until prompted. After more badgering, they made a couple calls to which nobody responded Later, I saw there was a line for the only available cashier, so I walked up to see if there was someone else that could help me. There was, she looked like a manger, but when I asked for a size, she told me I should stand in line to ask the cashier about the size. What kind of nonsense is that?? read more

So why should this place get three stars? Honestly, it's a good place to buy stuff when you need it. It's also the only place you're SURE will take Bruin Card. so instead, I'll give you all tips on how to get money ON your Bruin Card so you can buy your sweater/jacket/food/drinks/textbooks/etc. -Anderson Behavioral experiments. Business experiments on your BCard. A lot of them are online so you can BS it and go through it quick. Some of the ones that are in person give you more money. There's usually one a quarter that lasts for an hour that gives $20. I filled it out in less than half an hour before. =D -Psychology experiments. They don't really do anything invasive -- seriously. Just ask you a bunch of questions and see how you react. You can get BruinCard money for these too. -Cassel. They pay you REAL money to take economic experiments -- BASED on how well you do. I've heard of people getting up to $40. It usually lasts about 2 hours. Wait for sales to buy stuff. That's the only time things are worth it. But EVERYTHING goes on sale by the way -- including Rainbow flip flops and stationary. read more

Great selection. Wish this store existed in this form when I worked for BearWear in the early 90s. Everything we have ever wanted, we always find. 2 weeks ago I spent $350 in preparation for football season. Today, another $100 (and the GF spent almost $200) just to make sure we got everything we wanted. A previous review mentioned the lack of staff. For a store that size, there didn't appear to be much help on the sales floor. We experienced that during today's visit. We stood in the "line starts here" area for a while before the 2 people at the register even noticed us. One of them had "supervisor" on his polo shirt. When we finally received assistance at the register, the staff were great. Very kind and very attentive. We got our items and left. When we got home, it appeared that the good folks at the UCLA Store rolled our clothes into a ball and shoved them in a bag. I remember back in the day we carefully folded the clothes and placed them in the bag for the customer. This was a little unsettling. I love the clothes. I just wish they weren't a wrinkled mess in the bag. read more

I didn't see the shoes. I like the textbooks here even though I'd still shop for a better price. Students on tours are probably into the gift section. The bookstore also carries non-UCLA branded regular clothes too, but go somewhere else for better designs. This is good for students who can't drive and live on campus. read more

BearWear sales occur throughout the year around holidays--and people who are really into getting the best deals get there at 7am to shop. This was all I wrote to get comments for this review being useful, funny and cool. Glad Yelpers have low standards on reviews! I bought a chrome UCLA license plate here almost half a decade ago and it still looks good. I waited until it was on sale for 20% off during a holiday. Still wasn't cheap, but whatevs. When I was in school I'd hit this place up for Gatorade before walking over to Wooden (instead of freezing a bottle of water just so that it would still be cold by the time I exercised). They have medication here if you need a quick dose of meds before heading to your next class. The selection of clothing is slightly different and more varied than what you'd find on their web site, but that is to be expected. If I was still a student I wouldn't buy anything until that shit goes on sale; it's overpriced for what it is so just wait til there's a sale and get up early. read more

Wow! I thought it was impressive that DePaul's book store is a Barnes and Noble but this store takes the cake. We stopped in on our visit to the campus in March and I was completely shocked. The book store is 2 stories and part of a larger building that houses their cafeteria, health center and other parts of the campus. The downstairs area is completely filled with UCLA merch, books, etc. However, they also sell watches, makeup, Lakers gear, groceries and so much more. Although it's all extremely marked up, you probably wouldn't have to even leave campus for your basic needs! I took off a star because the only bathroom is 2 flights up and it took awhile to get there since the place was so packed. Also, they didn't seem to have enough employees on the floor to help with sizes, dressing rooms, and the like. For a store that size, employees need to be easily accessible and helpful. We ended up with some UCLA shirts, pens, and a shot glass but they had items for your dog, your house, your family and pretty much everything you could think of. The check out was pretty quick but they were out of certain size bags. read more

If you're planning to visit or attend UCLA, there is one place you MUST stop by. No, not the Admissions Office...Not the Library...Perhaps Jackie Robinson Stadium. Its the gift shop of UCLA. You can get anything UCLA at the UCLA Store. Since I am attending UCLA, I had to check out the UCLA and start familiarizing myself with the store. It is a multiple floor building, but the first floor is strictly the store while the upper floors are the dining areas and other facilities. If you don't have a car to drive to the nearest office supply store, you can get your items here. If you live on campus or just forgot to get supplies ordinarily sold at chain supply stores expect to pay a little more because of convenience. There is a computer section in the UCLA Store. I saw Apple Products, but I am sure they sell PC items as well. However, there are two MAIN things most students come here to buy: College Books and UCLA Apparel. I haven't started at UCLA and I ordered my books online. For me, the UCLA Store is for my pride in being part of the school. You'll find tons of shirts, jackets, accessories, and, of course, jewelry. If it says, "UCLA", you'll probably want to try it. If it says some other school, you might want to send it back to where it belongs. I did buy a couple of items to get ready for my semester to start and wear UCLA Pride. There are dressing rooms to tryout before you fully commit. Well, I signed on and I am ready! Just like my Los Angeles Dodgers, I go to the Dodger Clubhouse. The UCLA Store will be one of your places to support your UCLA Bruins or your school. You'll see me check in the store from time to time. I have a lot of Dodger gear, let's see how much Bruins gear I'll start having in my wardrobe. Do you think I write too much? Best UC bookstore in the entire universe!!! (yeah I'm an alumni and I worked there for a spell) #1 if you're a Bruin this is where you get all your school spirit stuff. I mean who doesn't want a little stuffed bear that play's the 8-clap song every time you squeeze it (that never gets annoying?!) #2 don't get it mixed up with the student book store one the 2nd floor. sure the ucla store has a book store within, but its so much more than that. #3 sure everything is overpriced, dare i say even your education? (but not as much as a certain private school that will not be named) AND you're in LA. since when did living in LA have the reputation of being cheap and seriously quit you're complaining... you can wear flip flops all year round from the the dead of winter quarter to summer school. read more

This is a UCLA superstore. Everything you could want from a college bookstore. Prices are ripoff high, but it is still fun shopping here. My accounting company paid for my day at UCLA so I had time to shop and look around. They've got everything a UCLA fan could want. Parking is expensive and hard to find, but if you find yourself at campus for a seminar or class, and you want fun college stuff, this is your place. read more

Great one-stop shop. Friendly staff, lots of cool Bruin gear and other CA themed clothes. Reasonably priced market inside with lots of food choices. You can get anything from a Hello Kitty backpack, single serving Nuttella packet or scantrons. I was just visiting UCLA campus with friends, but I was really impressed about he selection and the service. This is a very nice, spacious, well-stocked apparel, book, computer, and sundries store. You will find a great selection of all things UCLA, including an Adidas section. The prices are pretty stiff, but there are 2 store-wide sales each year, plus discount promotions for alumni and football ticket holders. The location in LuValle Commons sells most things having to do with the graduate and professional programs at UCLA. read more

My daughter payed 100 dollars and the phone doesn't work good,She dropped it off 3 times to get fixed and she ended up with issues she didn't have before. they wont give me my money back. What do you need/want today? I'd bet money that the UCLA store carries it. They have a section for groceries, stationary, books, clothing, ucla merchandise, gifts and carry pretty much anything a college student might need! The prices are slightly marked up for things like groceries and stationary and seriously marked up for clothing and school merchandise. Expected really, so it doesn't count against them. This place is very convenient and has saved me from many a trips to Westwood from campus, thank you UCLA store! Now to explain the missing star: To the douche-nozzle who seems to be the manager, at least in the stationary section: When you decide to tell your employees to keep an eye on some products because they are in demand at the moment and there are a few people hovering over them, try to do so without making it seem like you are sure the people that are looking at the products now are thinking of stealing them. Also, well dressed engineering students usually don't steal $20 portfolios they need for a job interview. I don't attend UCLA, but I've been to this bookstore twice while visiting the LA area. I should probably note that I'm a fan of visiting college campuses in general... kinda weird to some, but as someone who is educated and worked in higher education at colleges for over a decade, it's my "thing" and I happen to own several items of clothing from colleges I did not attend. There...I said it. THIS bookstore, is seriously the BEST I've ever been in...it's seriously like a department store more than your average college bookstore! You name it, they got it...I can't comment on the textbooks here, in fact I'm not even sore I saw them, but they have UCLA products from dog bandanas, to dog bowls, to hello kitty shirts, to a clinique counter to prescription eyeglasses! So much going on in this place...it's just amazing! If you're like me just visiting...it's worth checking out. If you're a student, this review is moot because I can't say one thing about the textbooks here! read more

I went to the UCLA tech zone to get a small part of my keyboard repaired and the person who attended to my problem initially told me that shipping would take 2 to 3 business days. It's been 3 weeks and I have yet to have any update on where my keyboard part is or when I will receive it despite numerous visits and emails sent to the UCLA tech zone staff. At this rate, it might be a month or so before I even hear back about it! Other than that, I got a new scientific calculator from the store and it works fine, although most things are of course, a bit overpriced (which is probably normal for a college campus store) read more
