Prompt, clean and complete. The technicians are very good at explaining what has been done and/or what needs to be done.

Was originally quoted $2500 for 40 gallon gas water heater install. Sounds good. Guys got there and said I needed power vent installed, ok fine. Price went up to $6800. I agreed not knowing anything but after researching, the power vent and PVC costs significantly under $1K, and a preexisting vent hole was there so no house drilling was required. No electrical required either since fan plugs into outlet. So I paid, at best, $4K for half an hour of PVC cutting/gluing and a few hundred in materials. Asked if there was a discount due to no drilling/electrical and they took $200 off. Can't say I'll be return for business despite good past experiences.

No torque arrestor was installed like previously, the service report says it was installed. Called back and was told wait another month. Called again after 6 months and trying to be upsold another system. Water filter only needed changing after 1 month now it needs changed every week because of no torque arrestor. Company is refusing to make it correct even though we are far within their work warranty. Being threatened a $2000 charge to fix a mistake they made. Company does not stand behind their work. Customer service was very rude. 1 year warranty on labor and they refuse to look at it.

We hired them to fix a leaky shower. They turned the water off to the shower, but said they didn't have the parts to fix it. It's still shut off. While they were here, they managed to talk my wife into installing a water softener and having a new water line run from the curb to our house. I think the total bill was something like $14,000. The day they were supposed to show up, the water softener guys arrived and did a decent job. The guys who were supposed to run the new water line to our house didn't show up. Turns out they somehow got the date wrong. So I had to take another day off work to be home when they got here. They were supposed to dig a hole by the curb and run the pipe in through the ground. After a couple hours trying to do that, they told me the ground was too hard and they'd have to dig a trench all the way to my basement wall. The trench went right through a brick-bordered flowerbed in front of our house - they made no effort to move the bricks out of the way, they just dug them up and buried them with the backfill. They also asked if they could tear out one of the bushes that have been growing in front of our house for decades. I grudgingly agreed - and they tore two bushes out. When they finally got the line to the house, it turns out they misjudged where it was supposed to come in - they were off by about 5 feet. So they had to dig a new hole in my basement wall and then jury-rig a Frankenstein-like mess of zig-zagging pipes held up by straps nailed to the ceiling (!) to get the pipe over to where it was supposed to come in. The end result looks like crap. While digging the trench, they hit a power line. After finishing installing the pipe, they called PP&L, but they didn't stick around to find out what to do about the line they dug up. PP&L came and went and told us nothing. I came home from work the next day and someone had back-filled most of the trench but left an open pit with a live power line sticking out of it in the middle of my front yard. I had to call Bowman FOUR times to get someone to finally come out and finish filling in the hole, and then they showed up on the wrong day again and filled it in when no one was home (probably because they didn't want me yelling at them). They dug up a ton of shale, and when they back-filled the trench they made no effort to do anything about all the rocks laying everywhere. I had to spend a couple dozen hours of back-breaking work raking them all up and hauling them to a pile in my back yard, and now I have a big pile of rocks behind my house that I don't know what to do with. They also didn't fix the border of the flower beds, or replace the mulch, or plant any grass seed. I had to go spend over $200 buying bricks, mulch, grass seed and fertilizer and do another couple dozen hours of back-breaking work trying to fix all the damage they did to my front yard. I will NEVER call H L Bowman again.
