Visited UJerk for the first time. I've walked by it many times, but never stopped in. On this visit, I requested a jerk chicken bowl with everything, a grape soda, and a chicken meat pie. It took about 10 minutes to make the food and we took it to go. I tasted the grape soda first and it was just okay. It was made in Jamaica, which is cool, but it didn't have a ton of grape flavor. Next, I tasted the chicken meat pie, which was warm and delicious. I'd definitely order that again. Next, I tasted the bowl, which was overflowing with meat, rice, shredded carrot, lettuce, sauce, tomatoes, and spices. It was pretty tasty. The portion was too large for me to finish in one sitting, so I put it in the fridge and had it again for lunch the next day. My meal was $23, which was too pricey for what I got. I could get similar food for about $15 at Heinen's across the street. Alas, I'm glad I stopped in for a bite. read more

I randomly stopped by U-Jerk because I noticed it every day on my way to work. I've always been curious to try a Caribbean restaurant in Downtown Cleveland. Coming from the Toronto area in Canada, there have been plenty of Caribbean restaurants that I have come to love, so I was very glad to have one so close to home/work in Cleveland. The first thing I noted was that this is a very small family-run business. That's a big bonus :) supporting local family-home businesses is always a goal of mine instead of dining at a large chain. This is an extremely small restaurant, so it's really only fit for takeout. They do have a tiny little ledge that would fit maybe two people to stand at and eat, but I don't think they really expect anyone to eat there. I got the Jerk Chicken Dinner, which came from Jerk Chicken, Fries, and Salad with your choice of dressing. Really worth it for the price! There was so much chicken that it was enough for two separate meals. The fries were also great. I got the jerk chicken sauce on both my chicken and the fries. Jerk chicken sauce on my fries was an attempt at a Jerk Chicken Poutine that I miss a lot from Canada. It wasn't the same, but I do love spicy fries :) I will be back on the weekend to try the Rasta Pasta. I was looking forward to try this pasta dish; however, it's only available on the weekends. read more

I re-tried this place after a poorly guided experience left me in pain from overly spicy foods last time. The kind owner reached out and told me there were choices when it comes to sauce here and so I chose the reggae ginger which is a sweet but not too sweet sauce to cover my boneless (by choice this time) chicken platter. The jerk spice itself was still spicy but not unmanageably so. I could actually appreciate the clove and other delicious spices in the jerk seasoning now and the boneless chicken chunks were not minefields of bone slivers and weren't dry either!! The fries were moist and lightly crispy on the outside with nothing soggy. I am so glad I returned. Two huge huge suggestions for uJerk: The menu online and in person doesn't say anything about sauce choices. This is a big miss and will lead people to choose what they don't necessarily want most e.g. me inadvertently getting the default super spicy sauce my first time as I had no idea to ask for sauce of my choice. You MUST put the sauce list on the menu! Second, there are no sugar free drinks available. There is only Jamaican soda and lemonade which leaves out a lot of customers who cannot drink the super sugary stuff. read more

Dang this was a great experience! My coworker and I each opted for the same thing: Platter of jerk chicken wrap with the fries (seasoning on top). Super generous amount and honestly, more food than 1 average person needs. Perfect amount of sauce, spice and veg of L, T and Red Onion (?) I think. Served in little boxes so no fear of tipping en route back to work. I would recommend ordering ahead online ONLY because if you're hungry like we were, the wait was killing us! This is a great little hidden gem. We ran a crossed while walking to the Indians game. We feast on a huge portion of jerk, chicken, plantains, Rosta, pasta, french fries. Fantastic. Glorious. The BEST jerk chicken I've had outside of Jamaica! After traveling to Jamaica I came back OBSESSED with Jerk and tried to find a place that was anywhere near as good as what I got on the Island. Well, FOUND IT!!!! Chicken=amazing; jerk fries=yum; jerk cutlet sliders=TAKE MY MONEY!!!! So good, great customer service and really go the extra mile to make sure they take care of their customers. I don't have a ton of context on Caribbean food, but I was pleasantly surprised with my first adventure with Caribbean eats! For the value, you get a ton of food. I love that you can also pick your preferred sauce - I believe I had the sweet honey on my sliders, which still had a little kick to it while being sweet. TL;DR: + If you don't mind working for your meal, order the Jerk Chicken Platter (chicken will be on the bone). My friend didn't realize this and was surprised. + If you don't want to work for your meal, order the Jerk Chicken Sliders (no bones in the chicken). + Get the fries plain, they are that good. + Enjoy! I didn't get to visit here in-person, but I certainly plan to in the future! Excited for the fresh perspective they bring to the neighborhood. I keep hearing about their rasta pasta, but sadly they were sold out when my friend went to pick up dinner there. So if you can, order that as a side with your fries (you get 2). Very disappointed after ordering takeout twice. All I can think of is this place has an identity crisis. The chicken was dry as...! Nothing is homemade. The fries are frozen the coleslaw not made in house and the salad dressings are not homemade. I have no idea why they call their establishment Jerk as nothing is on par with jerk or Caribbean food. The spicy tuna is misleading as it's canned tuna. Seafood salad wrap is primarily imitation crab salad. The staff is very friendly. I don't get why places like this don't make their food in house as it's less expensive to do so and tastes so much better! read more

Thoroughly impressed with so many aspects of the meal I had from UJerk today. For starters the chicken platter is an absolute beast of a meal with so much meat (for sure more than a 1/2 chicken). The chicken was very fragrant with traditional jerk spices and had nice color while remaining fall of the bone moist. As a side I had the spicy fries, theses delicious fries are covered in a chili sauce that tased incredibly good but quickly became a bit soggy. Coming in at a $12 meal this is an absolute value for some awesome food that could definitely feed two people easily. read more

I was in Cleveland for work and was craving something spicy for lunch - Ujerk's jerk chicken is some of the best I have had! The meat is tender and juicy, and the jerk-seasoning fries were delicious! This WAS one of the best places to eat downtown. They were recently "closed for remodeling" for a while. When they re-opened, the food isn't remotely as good as it was. I think they must have changed ownership and no one who currently works there had even tried the food like it used to be. The jerk falafel wrap was one of my favorite things in the world. Big handfuls of fresh veggies and the falafel was great. More recently, the falafel just isn't done right, hard to describe. And there are a few molecules of token veggies. It's just a tiny little skimpy thing when it used to be a big awesome healthy lunch. I was going to place my last order, 4th since the reopening and give them one last change. THEY INCREASED THE PRICES BY 50%!! I give them about a month until it's completely out of business. read more
