I…read morevisited the center twice within the last two weeks to get information about swimming lesson registration for my children. Unfortunately, both times the experience was unpleasant. The employees at the front desk were rude, unhelpful, and unfriendly. Today, I waited for around 15 minutes while one employee kept looking at her computer and another was on the phone. Even when I finally asked for assistance, the response and attitude were not welcoming or professional. As a city community center that serves families and residents, I believe staff should be respectful, cooperative, and willing to help people with basic questions. Instead, I left feeling upset and disappointed by how we were treated. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and works on improving customer service for families visiting the center.

I first became in the know about Affirmations while volunteering at A.I.D.S. partnership of Michigan. I'm shocked more people around town are aware of this gem. Affirmations recently moved into a gorgeous new facility which now allows patrons even more opportunities. This community center provides LGBT youth health services, a resource center, a helpline, support services and social and recreational opportunities. Some on Dequindre, too. New huge Asian grocery store in the mall at John R and Whitcomb. The Lantern Festival is truly a community offering---lots of REAL Chinese food, traditional dance and songs along with some Western, maybe a Yo-Yo, Tai kwon do or Tai Chi demo, ., a raffle, all done by community members. There are also hands-on activities like Calligraphy, candy -pulling, good luck knot tying, and more. You really won't feel like you're in Madison Heights. In fact, when I posted on FaceBk some pix I took, friends asked when I went to China. It's a lot of fun to go....and a good place to take children for a global experience.

This is a review of the fitness room…read more.. For me, the most important thing about a gym is convenience, and living 2 seconds away from here sure is convenient. The "gym" is just fine, and well suited to me and the regulars (elderly ladies). There are 4 treadmills, some ellipticals, and some bikes for cardio. There are a few weight machines, exercise balls, a bench-press and a bunch of free weights. I'm very curious as to who's using the 75 lb dumbbells (maybe the old ladies have some serious guns?) It is never too crowded, and when local miscreants sneak in, they are usually kicked out pretty quickly. I'm happy to pay into the community center. There are also quite a few senior citizen excursions listed on the bulletin boards, which made me jealous. My only complaint is that the office hours are economy-limited. So, in order to sign up for a membership, you have to somehow be there between 10-3. And no one is there on Fridays. The fitness room itself is open 9:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. most days.

Great facility with a lots of actitivites and events for all ages from kids to seniors. They have…read morebingo, dance classes, bid whist, water aerobics for adults, day camp for kids, basketball court, swimming sessions and swimming lessons for all ages. The pool and workout room are very nice and they have steam and sauna rooms. The facility also offers an outdoor walking track and outdoor fitness equipment. In the winter, you can workout at the indoor gym which has all of the usual gym equipment. I have to give a special shoutout to Linda at the front desk who was so helpful and informative when getting me and my mom registered. Also Sharon who works in the locker rooms went above and beyond in giving my mom and I a tour of the facilities. We weren't expecting a tour and just asked Sharon for directions and she was so kind in showing us all that the facility has to offer. I am really looking forward to enjoying many activities here!

I'd rate it an easy trail with a few different paths to take all under 2 miles or so. We've spotted a lot of nature life and it's a very peaceful and relaxing walk. The nature center even hosts a few events for the public to register. There's a few spots to sit and enjoy the nature scale and surrounding sounds, a pond by the nature center, and a story book trail for the kiddos!

The grounds are kept up.  There is a beautiful mural on the fence surrounding the yard.  There is a studio on the basement for exercise, dance and other things.  Computer training, reading and community involvement is all available.  It's a great place if you are looking for neighborliness, training and information.  It's all about family and community at the Osborn Brilliant House. I had a great time there with Director Bradley.  She took time to go over the facility with me and explain what is being offered.  After talking with her I knew what was up and what was available for me and what I could offer.  It's a great partnership and a shining example of the Spirit of Detroit.
