Recently I came across an advertisement for float therapy at Serenus here in Bloomington. I'm a…read morevery skeptical person and let the manager and owner know. They both encouraged me to do some research and to try it before I made my final judgement. I did some follow up research and it turns out that the origins of float therapy have been around for about 40-50 years. I've had a lot of stress so far this year so I decided to just give it a try. There is actual scientific research that has been done on this therapy. I will let you do your own research in that area so you can make up your mind about the potential benefits of this therapy. The following is my account of my experience. I arrived and was warmly greeted by the manager(Derrick) and the owner(Joseph). They quickly got me checked in and then the manager gave me a quick tour of the facility. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and definitely puts off a relaxing vibe. Once my tour was over, he showed me to the room where I would be floating and gave me what I considered to be a very thorough orientation on what to do, how to do it, how everything worked, and even included a warning on how to wipe my hair at the end of the session and being careful on getting out(you'll be a little slippery afterwards-more on that later). Like I said, a very thorough orientation. After my orientation, he started the music, flipped the sign on the door to indicate that the room was occupied and left me to it. I locked the door to the very private room, reviewed my surroundings and then started on the routine that he had laid out for me. When I first set up my appointment I was worried that 60 minutes in this pod, alone with my thoughts, would be boring and I'd wind up ending early. I was definitely wrong. I wondered a couple of times during the session how long I had been in there. But before I knew it the light in the pod had kicked on and the music started back up indicating that my session was up. I remembered previous instructions to wipe my hair back after I was done to ensure I didn't get any salt in my eyes, carefully exited, and showered. Be careful when you exit. The salt makes you extremely slippery. The shower is right next to the pod though so you can quickly remedy this. The salt washes off easily with the bodywash and shampoos so no worries there. After my shower, I checked the clock on my phone because I was just sure that I hadn't been in that pod for a whole 60 minutes. But sure enough, I had. Wow. Just wow. Overall, my experience was very positive, from interacting with the owner via facebook beforehand, to checking in, the float, and relaxing after. The only thing that wasn't recommended to me that I honestly should have thought of myself was to bring a comb for afterwards. I left feeling relaxed but energized. I definitely recommend you do some research about floating and then try it out for yourself. The price tag can be a little bit of a sticker shock but there are ways to reduce your cost if you decide to do it regularly and I think they have a special for 1st time floaters. I can be a bit of tightwad but i enjoyed the experience enough to tell you that I will definitely be back, next time with a comb and a voice recorder. Advice: don't set to many expectations before your 1st float, just enjoy it for whatever it turns out to be for you. Thanks again to the owner and the manager for making this a great experience and encouraging me to give it a shot. I wrote a much more detailed review about my whole experience but it was apparently too long for yelp. If you'd like to read my full review, visit their page on facebook.

The owner was the nicest gal. Then it got rough. What nail salon doesn't have the correct tools to remove Gel polish these days? It took her 40 minutes just to get my old polish off. She didn't trim my cuticles at all. I do keep my nails tidy but they can always use some touch ups. Then the new polish job is chunky, splotchy and looks horrible. She sent me packing with a steep bill and not even a moisturizer on my hands to counteract all that drying Acetone. They even still felt sticky and a little gooey when I left. Maybe because the ultra violet light was so weak that I had to put my nails in 4 times between coats? Sorry for the not so great review but you may need glasses and a new bottle of polish??? What salon doesn't have Bubble Bath for a color option? I had to go pink and now I need to pay a different salon 50$ for a color change and repaint.

The shop was clean, the vibe was peaceful and relaxing. She did an amazing job explaining everything to me one what they do at the shop and then what I should do moving forward to book. Deja made me real comfort and more at ease after my consultation. Once I made it back to my vehicle I immediately booked my new client appointment with Deja. When I came in for my new client appointment I was greeted and was asked to wash my hands. Something I love being OCD. I was offered free snacks and water. I was then told that my stylist was finishing up with her client and would be right with me. I waited only a few minutes and after Deja cleaned her area we got right to it. Deja explained every thing to me as she did things step by step. She even gave me a mirror so that I could see what the product was doing to my hair. This is something I have never experienced in my 43 years of getting my hair done. The process was absolutely amazing and I love the care given to my hair and color. I was not in the shop all day and my appointment time was did not run over. Once we were finished with my hair I was offered all of the products that were used in my hair during my appointment. I blight all of them! My curls are defined in a way that they have never been before and my style is beautiful. Deja is wonderful and I am happy to say I have finally found me a new stylist that I trust and believe in to take care of my hair the right way. Oh did I mention all the products are clean. I love Kurlykoils!!!!

As women, we share an emotional, physical, and spiritual connection to our crowns. Because of that, it's essential to have a stylist with genuine passion for what they do--not someone who treats it like a money grab, which happened in my experience here. Unfortunately, my stylist, Alayah, dismissed my concerns entirely. When I reached out about my hair color fading in less than three weeks, she showed no empathy, no accountability, and no regard for how I felt. Instead, she told me to "find a stylist in my area since my budget was low." That was beyond disappointing. I attached a photo below our my kind message with her un empathetic response. For context: I live out of state. The first time I came, I loved my results so much that I booked again and flew back just a few weeks ago for another appointment. This time, the color barely lasted, and when I politely messaged her, her response implied I should pay again for a correction--despite me already having paid for the original service, plus flights, plus a higher in-person price than what was listed online. She also knew I had arranged my travel entirely around her availability, yet I was still treated as nothing more than a dollar sign. There was a true lack of care, professionalism, and customer service skills. I once posted a TikTok recommending this salon, which had over 30,000 views, but I can no longer stand by that. Hair is not "just hair." It deeply affects people's confidence, and in some cases, damage can be irreversible. Stylists should treat this work with passion and respect! I strongly encourage you to value yourself and find someone who TRULY loves their craft and can give your curls the TLC they deserve. As an influencer, I purposely use my platform for this reason - to celebrate curls, freedom, beauty, femininity, and authenticity. Our crowns deserve stylists who honor that connection--not ones who treat clients like dollar signs.

I will say, on a POSITIVE note My stylist, Mackenzy was awesome! she did my color , cut and style as I requested and was a a young lady with great talent and wonderful listening skills. ON Another note, I must say that there were a few stylist in the back and at the shampoo bowl that were extremely loud and I'm not sure what was being said as it was in Spanish and at first I thought maybe these were other clients, no it actually was the stylist talking to each other in Spanish and extremely loudly and for long periods of time! they didn't seem to be aware about any of the other clients in the salon. All of the stylist seem to be doing shampoos and color which all looked awesome, but if the volume at the bowl would have been quieter while I was in my chair, I would have been more relaxed. I will return although because I loved my hair.

I have tightly coiled natural hair. I would have had to wait an hour for a stylist who is more comfortable with "textured hair". I didn't have that much extra time to wait. They were very nice. I appreciate that they didn't want to mess up my hair but at the same time it just made me feel rejected in a way. I ended up going to a different place on a whim that was pretty cheap but did a great job. Nothing against them. I just wouldn't recommend to those to have coily hair.
