Booked a morning appointment and rescheduled me for the afternoon after I communicated that this would conflict with my photo time. I requested to wait in lobby to see if I could be accommodated and was told to not bother. As a result, I was left without the ability to book where else for an important event. My one-month-in-advance booking is cancelled last-minute this morning. I received the cancellation about 5 minutes before my appointment, when I literally just walked out of my Lyft and right in front of the salon door. The stylist needs to bring her dog in for a medical emergency. While I understand emergencies happen, but the timing left me with the cost of two Lyft rides (to the salon and back) with no service provided. I was offered an alternative time at 1:45 but that conflicts with my scheduled work commitment so I am not able to take it. I left this review on Yelp because the extremely late notice and the inconvenience make me determined that I will not be returning. The salon even confirmed my appointment the day before and cancelling via text 5 minutes before start time when a customer already arrived is not acceptable for people on a tight schedule. read more

Seriously the best salon I've ever been to. I discovered Alex at Senoj while I was in college in Bloomington and I have loved my hair every time I go to her! The girl knows what she is doing when it comes to blonde balayage! The people who work here are so kind. They are very transparent about pricing and their additional cost services which I love because I know exactly what I am paying for. The value of the salon experience is top tier. Was one of my favorite salons, but I've had one too many issues regarding prices being jacked up or services being added by some stylists without my knowledge or permission. One time, I had one of the stylists add on a service without asking me, rather she TOLD me this is what I'm going to do, so at the counter when I found out my total was $50 more than usual, well yes I was pretty upset. However, the owner was very apologetic about it when I emailed that night, and offered a refund for that specific service I was charged for which I appreciated greatly. But recently, I was quoted $50 an hour for a color appointment, but knowing my past, I called a day ahead only to find out that the stylist had actually jacked the price up to $130-$200 an hour... without bothering to mention it to me. Not sure when I was supposed to find out about that.. perhaps at the counter when I'd have no choice but to pay? lol I will say the salon itself is good at what they do and in the past, they've done an amazing job with my hair, especially after I had a botched dye job that ruined my hair! However, I would just double-check prices with your stylist beforehand and make sure you're on the same page. read more

I was very satisfied with my 1st experience at Senoj. It has an upscale feel but everybody was very friendly and nice. I got a haircut and style from Jenna. She seemed very knowledgeable and my hair looked great, and I mean GREAT, afterwards. I have lots of long, fine, color treated hair and I hadn't got a haircut in 9 months or so, and had been using different types of cheap shampoo trying to find one that worked, so I was in pretty bad shape. I felt like a whole new person when my hair was washed with clarifying shampoo and fixed, and I have gotten a number of compliments from friends and relatives since! Not only did the girls at Senoj listen to my horrific story but they made arrangements for me to come in for a consultation and restoration of my hair. I was impressed. Having visited this salon several times now, I have a lot of positive things to say. They employ receptionists which make it easy to schedule and cancel appointments. You can also schedule appointments online. My stylist, Katie, is well educated and great at cutting hair and very informative about taking care of my damaged hair. I have not had color service nor used other stylists so I can't comment about that. I appreciate that the prices are rarely higher than the advertised "starts at" price for Katie, though she is an experienced stylist. Some negatives: They were gone for a week with nobody answering the phones and it was very hard to figure out what was going on - nobody answered the phone for that entire period and I was afraid they had gone out of business. This was truly the best salon experience I have ever had. I felt pampered and beautiful upon leaving. The staff there is incredible. So welcoming, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. Clearly well trained. The best part is it's oh so affordable too!!! I appreciated the TIME and EFFORT my stylist put in to coloring blow drying cutting my hair, that is just to name a few, WITHOUT making me feel rushed or like I was an inconvenience. I've been to Senoj twice and had Katie both times. My first experience was so great that I actually drove down from Carmel where I now live just so I could have Katie wax me again! She makes it comfortable and is easy to talk to. Does a great job. First time was just a bikini wax and my second was a Brazilian. The bikini wax was definitely a tidier wax, as a few sections of hair were missed during my Brazilian, however that could have been because my hair wasn't long enough in some sections? I don't remember but I'll give her benefit of the doubt because she's wonderful. The receptionist was welcoming and nice and overall it's just a great place. I went to Senoj to get my hair colored, and have been having my hair colored for over 15 yrs, and have never had such a bad color job. The person who did my hair was 20yrs old; while I think that people this age need experience, I don't want to pay Senoj' prices for an inexperienced colorist to do my hair - that's what a hair academy or Fantastic Sam's is for. In short, the color turned out more orange than blonde, and at 1st they acted like it wasn't noticeable, and then said, It's probably b/c you had home hair color on your hair. I was like, Um, aren't you supposed to be the professionals? Isn't one of your services 'corrective coloring?' The owner DID invite me back to have it fixed, and insisted they wanted me to be happy. but then instead of fixing it herself, she let the same girl do my hair! After the 2nd visit, it was better, but still not great. I will not go back there ever again and do not recommend it. read more

I asked for my hair to be cut to just above the shoulder; it was cut almost to my chin. After it had already been cut far shorter than I asked for, I pointed out that the left side was longer than the right. She made it better, but it was still uneven when I left - I gave up rather than have my hair cut even shorter. read more

I recently moved to Bloomington from Chicago, and before I left Chicago I got a haircut at the Hair Cuttery that was absolutely awful (I asked for it to be collar-bone length and it ended up being nearly to my chin). A month or so after that awful cut in Chicago, I got up the courage to try another hair cut and decided to go to Senoj Salon. Jordan cut my hair perfectly and was fun to chat with! It looked awesome, and every single thing I didn't like about the previous hair cut was remedied! Jordan has cut my hair a second time since then and I left ecstatic again. One other thing I love (besides the awesome shampooing sinks, peppermint shampoo, and scalp massage) is that although the salon sells products, they do not push them on you like at some other salons. My first time at Senoj was wonderful. The entire staff is professional and makes you feel relaxed and comfortable as soon as you walk in. I was offered a beverage while I waited for my stylist, and enjoyed the clean and modern decor in the waiting area. I only waited for about five minutes when I was greeted by my stylist. She was friendly and I felt like I connected with her right away. Once I was back in the chair, my stylist, Jordan, was very professional and offered suggestions based on her knowledge of color and popular styles for my face shape. I was making a big change from long hair to a very short, edgy cut, but I knew that I was in capable hands. Jordan did a full color, cut, and style, and I felt like a new woman when I left. She gave me helpful and easy tips for shampoo and product choices, style options, and recommended trims to keep the style fresh. The salon prides itself on high dollar quality without compromising service. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and I would trust them with any of my future salon needs. I have been going to see Ally for over a year now. She is always so kind and helps me figure out what I want to do with my hair. The stylists are so courteous even if you are not their client. They even have other services such as waxing. I am too lazy to do my own eyebrows, so I always get my brows done when I go for a haircut. I have very sensitive skin even to the less abrasive waxes some salons carry. At Senoj they use hard wax which doesn't leave my skin sticky afterwards. I have always enjoyed my visits to this salon and will continue to go for hair and brows. read more

I intended to get a $30 haircut, which is all I'll usually pay as my hair is fine and very easy to cut. I booked my appointment online and chose "any available stylist" for my appointment. Therein lies my mistake. I went to my appointment and got a fair haircut (not my favorite, but passable) and when I went to pay, I was charged $45. It turns out my stylist was a super stylist and charges 50% more. {Yes, it's a racket.} So, all that to say, I will not be returning. If I had gotten a really good haircut worth $45 that would be one thing, but this haircut was only worth $30. It's unfortunate, the salon was decently nice and close to my house. Having lived in Bloomington for a mere two weeks, I decided to take the plunge of finding a new hair salon/stylist opting for Ali at Senoj based on Yelp/internet reviews. Well, Yelpers, you've not led me astray! I got a drastic cut--I went from shoulder length naturally curly hair that had been neglected all summer to a short cut (to my ears) that can be worn curly or styled straight, or anywhere in between. I am extremely pleased with how it turned out, but even more pleased with the experience I had at the salon. Ali was extremely personable and not in the annoying way many stylists are, and she cut and styled my hair expertly. She showed me how it would look curly and then styled it straight, asking my preferences along the way. While this cut isn't my favorite hair style of all time, it's definitely in my top five, and it was by far the best cut/style experience I've ever had... not to mention the cheapest! Several months ago I went to see Elizabeth at Senoj to correct a botched color job and cut that I got at Mira (which used to be my regular salon but I will never go back due to horrible service). I had to leave on a business trip in 2 days and I looked like a clown, with blond chunks in my dark hair and short blunt bangs that I did not ask for. Mira couldn't find the time to squeeze me in to correct their mistake, but thankfully I found Senoj. Elizabeth was very accomodatIng and even worked late on a Saturday to get the job done. The whole time I knew I was in good hands. She fixed the color perfectly. Of course she couldn't grow my bangs but she somehow used her shears to make them much more acceptable. I just went back last week for a haircut and have received several compliments since. Excellent service and very professional work. I'm a satisfied customer! read more

Short version: Senoj ruined my hair on a routine cut and highlights. I asked the manager to fix it, and she actually made it worse while telling me it was all my fault. Long version: I got my hair dyed at Senoj by the same stylist for years. When she left town, I decided to stick with Senoj and try a new stylist. I scheduled my regular highlights and a cut with a random stylist. I went in and saw that she was very young - only 19! When I'm spending $170 I expect my colorist to have some experience, and she was straight out of beauty school. So right off the bat, I was rather concerned, but decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. I asked her to just do a touch up - same color as I've done for years, which is a honey brown. When it was all done, my hair was platinum blonde and the color didn't even reach my roots! I literally had 1 inch roots the day of getting my hair dyed. I looked WORSE coming out than I did going in. I was horrified. I've dyed my hair for over 10 years and never have I seen anything even close to this bad. When I spoke to the receptionist about getting it fixed, she tried to set me up with the same stylist! I told her WTF I want the manager to fix this mess - someone who actually knows how to color hair. Finally, the manager agreed to fix it. When I went in a second time to get it corrected, the manager was very rude and condescending, telling me that I should have been more specific about what I wanted my hair to look like when explaining it to the first stylist. All I wanted was the roots filled in!!! I realize that might be a lot to ask at a HAIR SALON. But whatever, I told her look, I just want my regular honey brown hair back. And she said that was impossible. WHAT?! She said she actually had to make my hair LIGHTER to fix the roots. And the only way I could get my dark hair back was after months of dying it a little darker every time. That seemed absolutely insane to me, but she was so unbelievably rude about it, I just wanted to get out of that place and for my hair to look decent in public. So I agreed. And paid $170 for bleach blonde hair I never asked for. It was so sad - my hair was dry, brittle, and covered in fly-aways from the second bleach treatment. She ruined my hair. After that fiasco, I went to Holli at Royale Hair Parlor, and she fixed my hair in ONE VISIT. She is clearly more competent than the colorists at Senoj - she was trained in California and used a bunch of techniques to fix my bleached, fried hair. She said there was no reason for the manager at Senoj to dye my hair even lighter - that she just didn't know how to color hair. What a joke. So you can spend $170 for these people to ruin your hair, but I'm going to Royale Hair Parlor. My hair looks even better after my one visit to Holli than it ever did at Senoj for a fraction of the price. read more

I just went to Senoj for the first time and was VERY impressed! I have always had long hair and was afraid to go to a shorter length, but Kellyn cut my hair perfectly and it looks great. Went in & was done by Katie & it honestly did not turn out that great. Got an ombré done & wanted a transition that wasn't drastic & had a more natural look but what I got was my basically light/medium brown hair turning straight into bleach blonde. I don't know if she left it on for too long (cause she seemed to come back in a rush) or if she thinks it's gonna fade out, but it looks very weird. she also messed up the first time & had to re-do a part of my bangs. I also asked her to re cut my hair into my long bob & the back is basically the same lengths as the front so that's annoying. in the end I was charged 150 dollars which I wasn't very happy to pay. never going to her again. I will say the place is very well kept & they are always asking if you need anything but honestly I don't need refreshments & over-pampering I just need a good hair stylist who understands what her customer wants. read more
