I knew exactly what I wanted to buy and where it was but wanted to look at 1 more thing. Went in about 8:40 knowing they closed at 9:00. Was greeted with welcome in we close in 20 minutes. Every stinking isle we went down there was a worker doing a countdown until closing. I had an arm full of things I needed and when the 5th employee looked at me and told me when closing time was I drooped everything in my arms and walked out of the store. I had over $200 worth of product but apparently they were too busy worrying about closing their realize I had plenty of time to look at another thing I wanted to purchase and pay, and be out before the store even closed. Oh good grief! Walked into Ulta last Saturday and felt almost accosted. Apparently it was some sort of Benefit cheerleading camp event. Opened the door to nearly a dozen girls yelling "Welcome to Ulta" in my face. I would have walked out right then, but I came in to buy some hair products...and I had already put it off for too long. I think we all agree it's fun to check out other things, but every time I picked up any item, one of the salespeople would be right next to me saying "OH...i LOVE that stuff!" 1) I didn't ask your opinion 2) There is literally no way that y'all love every product in that store. 3) We don't need your personal endorsement for every item we pick up. Also, half a dozen people aggressively asking me "What can I help you find today?" is off putting. Most of us have worked retail and we know you are supposed to ask open ended questions... but most customers don't actually like that. Finally, a lovely salesperson asked me in a NORMAL voice, "are you finding what you are looking for or can I help you find something?" And she did. Along with the lip gloss that she was wearing because it looked fabulous on her (and now it does on me as well). A little genuine interest goes a long way. read more

I am usually never the type to complain or post bad reviews, but I am genuinely upset about my service at Ulta. I have been going through a journey to get my hair back to normal after over processing a toner. I went to HBI to get it fixed and it looked great the first time, but the second time, my hair was visibly orange. I decided to try Ulta after waiting 6 weeks especially because I knew the prices would be better. Worst mistake. He left the toner on my hair for 20 minutes and it is almost black at the ends and light brown on top. I said something about it and he told me all about hair porosity and how mine was messed up. Offering no real way to help. I go to the front to pay for my $67 gloss (no cut and basic blow dry) visibly upset. The manager offers to take $7 off of my ticket after he ruined my hair. After I've spent $400+ just to get it fixed and ALL I wanted was a basic gloss. I am mostly upset because I paid this person to make my life easier and make me feel good about the way my hair looks. I was greeted, and asked several questions on what I was looking for. The young lady gave me several suggestions, and then had another woman help me shade match. The Salon at Ulta is truly like coming home for me. For years now, Vegas, Rachel, Chris and Erica have done my hair. Everything from basic cuts to their "Go Out Blow Out" to $1000+ spent on fantasy hair color (yes, I have an addiction). I've never, EVER, been disappointed. And if I had been...you have a full week to return, satisfaction guaranteed. Mary Catharine is the esthetician at the Dermalogica booth. Divine facials at really good prices. She's also an incredibly talented MUA and up to date on many current styles you find on Instagram and Pinterest I know this sounds over the top, and cmon it's a chain retail store, right? But truly, their master stylist Vegas has skills that rival any $300+ master I've used in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta and London. No joke, no exaggeration. I stopped in today to pick up some shampoo & conditioner for my wife. I walk up to the check out counter, not another customer around and the young lady behind the counter ( Emily) tells me to step to the end of the line and they will get to me in a minute. I walk to the end of the counter, another customer steps around me and walks to the counter where Emily tells her the same thing, again no other customer is at the counter. Emily calls for front counter help, at the same time a young lady comes in from outside and goes to Emily's register. This is the customer Emily was making 2 customers wait in line for. Once I got to the register, she wanted my phone number which I refused to give and her comment was well if something is wrong with it and she ( my wife) brings it back, I can only give her like 2 cents; $50:00/ea. is what I paid. Really bad customer service from this young lady and I might add I had asked another young lady where the specific items I was getting were located in the store and she took me right to them and was very polite. read more

Updated review (2019) I initially rated this Ulta a 1 in 2017 but I now give it a 4 after discovering Amy at the Benefit Brow Bar. I was in a bind and my regular brow lady cancelled on me the morning I was set to leave town for vacation. Amy is super sweet and always does an awesome job! I would give this place zero stars if I could. I recently moved to Chattanooga and it was recommended that this place was the best in the city for eyebrow waxing. I came in and not ONE associate spoke to me. The store wasn't even busy. I browsed for about 10 minutes and I finally tracked someone down and asked about their eyebrow services. She rudely points me in the direction and states I need an appointment. I walk to the station and was still not greeted by the women at the desk. I won't be returning. This Ulta location could be greatly improved with better staffing. I will note that the cashiers were great, especially Madison who checked me out. Today, I went into the store with the intent of stocking up on all of my usual items before I have a baby; so, I had a long list of items to buy. I was unable to find a bare minerals product in my shade. A group of 3-4 employees were hanging out at the Estée Lauder/Lancôme counter area looking at pictures on one of their phones. I saw them notice me looking around for assistance, then continue with their conversation. After moving on from that section, an employee asked if I needed help. I asked about the product I couldn't find, to which she replied, "they probably have everything out." First of all, the online "find in store" option says it is in stock. Second, could you not at least go check yourself or find another employee who is familiar with the section? I spent over an hour in the store and the aforementioned group of employees remained huddled together the entire time. Maybe that is why so many items were out of stock on the shelves. Ulta is into BE KIND, however, I felt very unwelcome by MOST of the salon staff. When they look at you, but can't fit you in because they've "just" decided to color their husbands hair... Anyway, Chris was AMAZING! He was getting ready to walk out of the door, but fit me in for a quick undercut shave. Excellent experience for me at Ulta! Back in 2011 I got my hair done here for Prom and my hair looked amazing. I just got married on April 28th 2018 and Ulta did my bridal party's hair and makeup. Everyone looked AMAZING! The staff was super friendly and my entire experience was great and it made my wedding day spectacular. I then went back on may 16th to get my hair dyed and cut by Kyle and she was amazing. Very nice and very attentive as to what I wanted but what would also work for my hair. I highly recommend Ulta and everyone on the staff is very talented and nice. I have never had a bad experience and I will now make this Ulta my go to hair salon. read more

Grab a coffee across the street, check your email for coupons, and come in for a browse. *My cashier, Hannah, was extremely patient and professional today. I forgot to use a coupon in my email, she never got frustrated, she offered to return my items, re-ring them with the coupon, and she even told me to look for a different coupon in my email for a Julep sample. It was there and I would have totally overlooked it. She never made me feel rushed at all. That's great customer service! read more

Superb customer service here. All smiles, answers to my questions, and help finding products. The store is large and they have so many different brands available in all departments. More of a variety of brands/products here than some other locations. But because they have various brands, individual selections are slimmed down and things sell out fast. Noticed that with only about two things I looked for but otherwise it was fully stocked merchandise throughout. It was clean inside and organized. Their displays in the front of the store are nicely set up. The one complaint is that they needed more hands on deck. Not enough folks on the floor and the register. read more

I went in for a blow out. I have difficult hair, I will be the first to admit, but if you are a professional you need to be able to handle all hair types. I pay "professionals" to pull the frizz out for me. I had my appointment at 5;00pm and left there right at 6:00. It is now 7:15 and my hair is already a frizzy mess. On top of that it doesn't even feel clean. I felt it was a waste of money and was not a professional service. $40 for bad hair wash. I think stylist at great clips are more equipped. They don't have an actual nail artist and she doesn't know what she's doing. She didn't cure my gel nails (which are supposed to last for 2 weeks) and now my gel nail polish is coming off! Unlike previous reviews, I've never had an issue with this paricular Ulta, and I've been to many of them. When I need assistance, I get help immediately. I've been to this location several times and have been helped every time i needed it. I recently returned an item with no issues. As far as stock goes, ALL ultas stock is hit or miss. A lot of the times it isn't Ulta, but the item has been discontinued by the company. If you ask why they don't have a particular item, they will gladly tell you why. Is this the best Ulta I've ever been to? No. Is this the worst Ulta ever? Not even close. read more

The service here is definitely lacking. The associates typically on register are polite, however it's like pulling teeth to get someone to help you on the floor. If and when you finally do manage to get someone's attention, they are less than helpful and don't answer the questions you're looking for assistance with - not even in an upselling way which is to be expected in retail. I normally hate stores like this because i've been scarred by Sephora and their pushy-ness and "you can't sit with us" attitudes. BUT this Ulta location is about as far away from that as possible. Amy at the Brow Bar is absolutely amazing and is a miracle worker! Teodora is my hairstylist and she is just about the sweetest person you will ever meet, she does exactly what i ask for and it always exceeds my expectations. I wish I had better things to say, but the Chattanooga Hamilton Place Ulta has terrible customer service and poor stock maintenance. It seems that seventy-five percent of the time, the product you need is out of stock in popular and discount brands. On the rare occasion that you can readily find assistance, it is a half-hearted attempt to open a drawer. Many times, the employees are doing their own makeup or hair or perusing the products for themselves (which could be a big part of why the shelves stay poorly stocked if they are getting first crack at the merchandise). It is an entirely frustrating experience, and I try to avoid them as much as possible. I have friends who are makeup artists and hairstylists who simply refuse to go to this Ulta under any circumstances. Fortunately and unfortunately for me, there are a few products lines that can only be found locally in their store. As another reviewer stated, Sephora is a much better experience. The staff is much better trained, more pleasant, and certainly more willing to help. While I have no idea if Ultas in other areas perform as poorly, I can certainly say without reservation that the Chattanooga Hamilton Place location is one to avoid unless it is a dire beauty emergency. Finally Ulta corporate, if you are listening, I have one word that would solve all these issues. TRAINING!!! Train your staff to provide great customer service and care about their jobs and your customers!! read more

I came in on a Friday night w my mum with a picture of a makeup look I desired and requested help from a black lady who was management. I'd recently purchased tarte base from ulta bc they had no one willing to do a color match and application and the product dried my skin so bad it was peeling. Such poor customer service and general lack of care, we packed up and went to sephora where they did a professional color match with a piece of technology like a camera. The lady took personal attention and not only showed me products for my skin type but also showed application. We spent over 400 bucks in product skin care and brushes. Too bad so sad Ulta but customer service still matters to some. read more

I shudder every time my niece wants to go to Ulta. I'll still take her and buy what she wants, but I take her to get the really good stuff at MAC or Sephora first. Ulta has a problem with the employees having any product knowledge. One girl who was checking us out had drag queen makeup worthy of a Vegas night club act. She was nice enough and disclosed that even though she was promised full time, she got less than 10 hours a week and made barely above minimum wage. The store itself is a wreck and no two employees have the same answer to basic questions, like "what time does the store open?". Apparently this is just a terrible company who preys on young employees, not even paying them holiday pay on holidays that they are required to work. I have vowed to not give another dime to this wal-mart of beauty until they get some morals and treat their employees better. Next time that you are in there, check amazon prices against Ulta's.
