I think this is my favorite ULTA by any means. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and throughout my browsing I was offered help 2x by 2 different employees. Usually when I go to the ulta by Pembroke I seem to be invisible. Love the products and love the sales they have, even though I'm pretty sure I didn't get buy one get one free for benefit products that was advisertized but oh well I'll just re check the receipt and make another trip get some more fun stuff. read more

I love that the store has a wide assortment of products. It would be nice if they had staff to help you find these products. I've been here several times. As long as I know what I need and where it is, it's okay. The three times I've been in needing help, I've never gotten it. All I wanted today was heat protectant spray for my hair and hairspray. I spent about 20 minutes looking for it myself. I stood in front of 2 employees waiting for them to finish finding which box of perfume had an alarm tag shrieking for about 2 minutes. When the man found it and took it to reset it, I opened my mouth to ask the woman where I could find the heat protectant. She just turned and walked away before I could utter a sound. Rude. I made a 3rd loop through the shampoo section and gave up. I'm going to Target now. read more

I like Ulta as a company but this location isn't the best for customer service. Several times I've been here and I've walked around and around the store and no one offered to help me find what I was looking for, or no one was available to help me. Another problem I almost always run into is the lack of supply of products. Always out of my shade in everything. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be going back to Ulta I made an appointment to get my hair colored. When I got to the store, I was told that they were finishing up with another client. I was fine with that and walked around the store for a while. Almost an hour later, they called me back. The stylist talked to me for a couple of minutes and then informed me that she didn't have time to do my hair since she was leaving soon (it was still 3 hours before they closed). She informed me that I could make an appointment for another day and come back. This is just unacceptable. It would be one thing if I had been a walk-in, but I had an appointment!! read more

Evertime I come to this store there sleeves are always bare they have to go to the back to look for product. They never greet you at the door and there is never staff members to help you this is by far the worst store out of all of them guest I'll continue to shop at sephora where the service is much better. read more

I love makeup I really do. And Ilya gives you a good variety of various high end make up brands. It has a nice variety of your beauty needs, face, skin, hair. I like that they have many shades and you can try out the testers before you buy. It's a nice store for make up lovers. read more

I went here once to get a hairstyling and wash first time the woman did a great job. Second girl, not so much. Cut my bangs weird, didn't even style my hair just ran a blow dryer through it. Typical Ulta that happens to be brand new (opened September 2014). During opening week, the store seemed to be overstaffed with employees who offered too much help. Now, staff is as minimal as the amount of help offered or received. Consider yourself lucky when you do encounter someone willing to do her job, much less go above and beyond. The store is brightly lit and seems well-stocked. Glad to see an Ulta added to this part of South Hampton Roads, although the main reason I visit is convenient location. Perhaps for better service, the more suitable alternative would be shopping the store's site online (and you can still save by using your coupons)! read more

I am not one to wear much makeup, mostly because I don't know how to apply it properly. However, I thought I would treat myself and splurge so I visited Ulta. I was overwhelmed by the options but started collecting items to try. I asked an associate for help picking out a foundation color but she said "in a minute" and walked by me while practically looking through me. The store was empty besides two other customers but the staff person never came back. After being in the store for 46 minutes with absolutely no acknowledgement from staff, I put back my items and left. I won't go back. I choose to spend my money in places that appreciate my business. read more

I loooooove this ulta location! It is my go-to spot for whenever I want to try a new product or restock on what I ran out of. It is very easy to navigate -- drug store products on the left and higher end makeup on the right. I love that they have drug store options because you can easily compare higher end products with drug store products right in the store! This has helped me save tons and tons of money (yay!). There is a full brow bar and salon located inside as well. During Christmas time they have amazingggg deals and cute stocking stuffers that are perfect for the holidays. There is almost always a special sale going on which is great! This is definitely a plus from locations like Sephora (which never really have sales -- ever). The staff is very friendly at this location and are always helpful. read more

I have an adequate amount of knowledge on makeup, but I still have questions on which product is best and which will work best for my skin tone and type. With that being said, the employees at this Ulta are always there to help and are so kind. There are many employees there if you need shade swatches or opinions on the products. My prom is tomorrow and I was shopping for some makeup today and the lady who was working the front half of the store (I unfortunately didn't get her name) was understanding and answered all my questions. She had dark black hair and was petite. If you ever come across her in Ulta, be on the lookout for her! I do not get the same experience when I shop at Sephora. I do not know how to explain it, but the overall vibes of ulta is more welcoming and genuine. With Sephora, I personally feel as though the employee want to sell you more expensive products. Ulta also has less expensive sections of the store with a good variety of beauty products for anyone who likes a good bargain as well. The only downside of this Ulta is not necessarily the franchise, but the parking lot this specific store is in--so be prepared for craziness there! Other than that, I had a great experience. I'm a beauty junkie so I spend a lot of time on all things beauty related. This particular location is near my job, so I come here on my lunch break all the time. What I love about Ulta is that they are constantly having sales and they have mid range products (Nars, Becca & Lancôme for example) and low end (think Wet N Wild & LA Girl) all in one store. Also all of your favorite drug store brands can be found here as well. Pricewise, I think you get the biggest bang for your buck at Ulta, especially with their rewards program. The only thing is that they don't carry the high end brands that Sephora does (Drunk Elephant, Sunday Riley, Chanel etc.) so I still have to go to Sephora. I'm taking off a star because not all of the employees are friendly and some will look you in the face and not speak and at times I've been blatantly disregarded by the staff. No biggie. When I find that starts to happen too much, I just order everything that I want online. read more

I love this store...... Usually. But a few days ago I went in for some foundation and I buy the higher end urban decay brand. And on this day I had no makeup on and I felt as though the cashier behind the counter treated me differently than they usually do when I go in full glam. Also, while I was shopping I was testing the foundation for my shade and it was so clumped up that it shot out side ways and got all over my teal hoody and will not come out. When I told said cashier about the issue she was completely rude and didn't even care that my clothes were ruined. I was utterly shocked at her attitude and the way she treated me. read more

I like Ulta. This store is nice and clean and has a great variety of beauty products. Many of the products (makeup and perfume) are able to be tried. The staff is helpful but not overbearing. They had all of the items in stock that I went in to buy. The location is good. The young woman at the register even provided me samples which I know that some of the other locations don't offer so freely. read more

LOVE this location! I go to this location only to see Shannon at the Benefit Brow Bar. She does amazing work on eyebrows. I'm usually never impressed with previous eyebrow waxes from other places but Shannon is really talented at what she does. She's passionate about her work and it really shows because the outcome is always great. I've never been a regular anywhere for eyebrow waxes but I will be at this location with my favorite eyebrow waxer! read more

Went in looking for a specific shampoo that someone told me they sold here. I walked about for a good 20 minutes, obviously looking like a lost puppy and no one asked if I needed help. When I finally decided to ask for help this was extremely tricky because their employees just wear a small name tag and whatever kind of clothes they want, so I had no idea who to talk to. I love ulta they are usually cheaper then most Beauty stores. The one thing this place lacks is knowledge of the products. I will never forget the time I asked for help with curling irons I asked the girl in the salon and one on the sales floor. The girl in the salon said I don't know anything about hair or that and walked away the other girl said I straighten my hair every day. She had curly hair but knew nothing about curls. Even though she said she didn't know anything she tried hard to help my find the right curling iron which I gave her brownie points for that. The other problem with this store is lack of employees and I feel bad for the girls working there because they are trying hard to make sure the customers are taken care of but you can tell they are worn out. Just because I gave this place three stars I would still recommend ulta to anyone who loves hair and makeup. read more

This is specifically with respect to the "Salon" and not the staff that assists with purchases or finding products. I recently lost a lot of eyelashes due to an allergy and thought I would come in for a makeup application to help hide my non-existent lashes. I provided the woman, Amanda, with a photo of a very natural look. It took about 20 minutes after my arrival for her to find products she wanted to use and wait on clean brushes. This is a store full of supplies and she waited until after I showed up to clean them. She began the application first by doing my eyebrows, completely uneven. Then the eyeshadow which was natural but.. again, uneven. My face was next. Coverage was OK but then she applied a shimmer EVERYWHERE that made me look like I was in a twilight movie. Next was eyeliner - the area I was most concerned with. The quality of the lining skills was terrible. The lines were shaky, uneven, too thick for a natural look. She used black liquid when I wanted more subtle earth tones. I was nearly in tears at this point. I have a very hard time expressing disappointment to people. Especially in this case since, nearly the entire time I was in the chair, she was complaining with a co-worker about other clients and EMPLOYEES. This whole visit was unprofessional. I can't understand why Ulta allows someone with worse makeup skills than me (and I'm awful) apply on other people and charge them for it! I wish I had the courage to stand up for myself in the store but I will never, ever have a salon service there again. I wasted an hour and $40 just to buy makeup removal wipes and take it off in my car in the parking lot. read more

I have been going the Benefit Brow Bar at this Ulta for about a year. Shannon does amazing work on eyebrows. She is usually booked. However, I stopped in about 2 weeks ago just to see if she was available she said it would be 10 minutes. After waiting an hour, I decided to leave. I made an appointment today and got there on time and she had already started doing someone else. I waited 15+ minutes from my appointment time for her to start on my eyebrows. She's amazing and takes her time, just be sure you are not pushed for time and make an appointment. read more

Helpfulness of the staff is hit-or-miss, as is their knowledge. I went in with a list of products I wanted to select and was having a lot of difficulty finding what I was looking for. I was finding very messy shelves, items in the wrong places, and empty spots. I finally was able to find someone to help me. She did try to find the item in the back but they were out of stock of a particular item I wanted. I was also looking for a Maybelline Lip Liner in clear, but she couldn't find it either. Then she asked me what I wanted it for. What? Ummm, to line my lips.... Why clear? Well, so I can use it with any color lipstick...She then said they don't make it, Yes, they do. So she suggested another brand in a neutral color. She pulled it for me, but it had been opened and used. When I told her this, she didn't say a word, and didn't make any effort to get me another one and I couldn't find one. Gave up on that. I had asked about testing a product, and she told me I couldn't test it, even though they have testing stations and samples. She said, "I color matched you already". I told her I didn't want to buy it if it wasn't right for my skin, and she said "you just have to buy it and you can return it if you don't like it". Very disappointed in my last visit to the Ulta Hair Salon. My stylist, of over a year now, is always absolutely amazing, but I was charged for a haircut for my one year old son after she literally made three snips with her scissors while he was sitting in my lap. I went home and finished his haircut myself. I asked the manager about it at the register, but she said there was nothing she could do. I told her I was not happy. She said sorry and walked away. Not very professional. The day before my visit, my friend had visited the Ulta Salon per my referral to my amazing stylist. She got a haircut and the stylist curled her hair. The next day she washed out the curls and realized her bangs were still too long. She called Ulta to see if she could come back in to get her bangs fixed. She was told yes but she would be charged $13.00 for a bang trim. She just paid $41 for a haircut the day before! Ulta is overpriced and will charge for everything! I felt bad for my friend. I will not be returning to Ulta for any reason. read more
