Shopping in this store has always been a fun time for me. I can tell myself I am just going to browse and always find myself having the counter filled with lipsticks, brushes and all kinds of makeup! I can't help it, I am a girly girl! I feel like a kid on Christmas Day walking down the aisles. There is always something that I want soon as I hit those doors. I visited the Ulta Beauty salon at 1812 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. Charleston SC 29407 on April 11, 2026, around noon for a makeup appointment ahead of a wedding. Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing makeup service I have ever received. The application did not meet basic professional standards, and I was dissatisfied with both the technique and the overall result. Additionally, when I attempted to provide feedback during the session, the artist responded in a manner that felt unprofessional and dismissive. I encourage Ulta Beauty to ensure that makeup artists are properly trained and maintain a high level of customer service. Went to the Ulta in Harbison and when I walked in I was never greeted first of all and when I did find a male associate I asked him to help me find three items on my phone . He looked at me and pointed they will be in that direction . He did not walk me over to look for anything . I walked around the entire store twice and everyone was to busy talking to each other . I love this Ulta location! I have gotten my hair and brows done and have been pleased with the results. Not to mention that the Beauty Associates are super helpful and have suggested some great products, whether it was skincare, makeup, or hair products that I purchased and absolutely loved. Maybe I had to wait in line two times, or this location was out of a product that I wanted, but hey, no big deal as things happen! Now let's get into the Beauty Services. If you're like me, when you're in a new city, you might be skeptical or a bit nervous about trying a new eyebrow person. Look no further; you're in good hands with Marissa. She is a Benefit Cosmetics Eyebrow Guru. She does a brow mapping and talks with you to see how you want your brows. I have gone to her about four times, and she has kept my brows looking nice and full. I'm not too fond of super-thin brows on me and have had a waxer or two thin my brows out. Marissa is awesome, and she is always in a pleasant mood and has a sweet and positive spirit! Let's get into the hair! I am natural and like wearing styles that don't require heat; rod sets and twist-outs are my styles! Needless to say, if I want a silk press or my hair straightened, I still get paranoid because I don't want heat damage. One day I happened to be looking at hair products, specifically heat protectants. One of the beauty associates told me some products that she had personally tried. We were near the salon, and I asked her about the natural hair silk press services, and she recommended Samantha. Fast forward to a few weeks later, and Samantha did my hair. I booked a Silk press, and she walked me through each product she used. My hair turned out really good and lasted for over two weeks in ATL weather and in Hot South Carolina! Samantha was also very nice and easy to talk to! I would highly recommend getting Brow and Hair services from this Ulta Location! You are in good hands with Licensed Professionals. Benefit Brow Bar Specialist at this location is terrible. Specialist canceled my appointment w/o a phone call. I was five minutes late and specialist had already taken someone else in my place and canceled my session in the app. I have never been treated this way. I stopped in after lunch with girlfriends to grab a few things before I go out the country next week and this store is well stocked. If not for the broken glass on the floor from a perfume bottle that went unswept the entire I was in the store, this would have bumped up the rating some. I also didn't like how many of the consultants stood around and I had to seek them out for help and it seemed like a chore. What really irritated me was one girl was hovering over me as I shopped as if I was going to steal something and when I stopped and stared at her, she walked away. This isn't my normal Ulta so I didn't know what to expect but I'll stick to the one near my house especially since I always spend well over $200 every time I've gone there. Ulta is my go to for all my beautifying products. I know that when I'm looking for something specific they will have it and 1500 more things that I didn't know I "needed". They have fragrances, bath and body products, hair care products and tools, nail polishes etc. They also have a salon. I have not tried the salon yet. They also have consultants that can help you try on products and they do makeovers too. If you aren't looking for high end make up then you are still good to go. They have your regular cover girl and other brands too. Don't forget to check out the Ulta brand products near the register. They are quality products! I also love all their holiday gift products. Last year I got a set of perfume samplers that I loved! It's a great way to try some new products. They also have tons of perfect stocking stuffers. Some are 5 for $5! Save yourself a few bucks and look for special deals. Last night I bought a couple of Cover Girl products and received a free bag. (They ran out of the bag for the Cover Girl promo so they actually let me substitute a Michael Kors bag instead and it's awesome.) They also accept coupons and usually have one in their circular that comes out in the Sunday paper. There are some restrictions on it so be careful! They do have a rewards program which I recommend signing up for so you can start earning points too. The only reason I knock a star is that the staff always seems spread a bit thin. They are always helpful and friendly when I can track someone down but finding someone isn't always the easiest! They must be busy keeping everything stocked! read more

You can have your receipt and only get one penny. That is not the policy. They sound like they are working the system or scamming or something. I cannot brag enough on how amazing my experience was at Ulta yesterday. I last minute booked online for an opening appointment. The girl who the booking system placed me with wasn't actually working that day. Sam offered to fit me in between her other clients. The manager Came and spoke with me as well. It worked out because Sam did an amazing job. I show up with dark hair that has been dyed red one too many times and showed her a solid 8 pictures with 8 different rose gold shades. I said "I want to lighten and be different, but keep my job." Sam handled it. She made a plan, discussed with me, mixed up some color magic from scratch and worked magic in my hair. She offered products and services that I actually needed and not ones I didn't. I had a very irritated scalp and she was very careful the entire time not to hurt me or burn me. When she got a little too busy, another lady pitched in to rinse another client as well. I can't remember her name, but she's got pink hair and is sweet as can be. All of the ladies made my experience a great one. When I was getting treatments or letting color sit, the ensured I was comfortable. I even took a small nap. I went into ulta today just looking for some newer foundation. I needed a lighter shade and as soon as I walked in I was immediately helped by this super nice guy, Stephen. There happened to be a "Tarte party" going on and so I was going to check out the tarte foundations. He offered to put some of it on my face and even though I had a dull face on he took it off and gave me a complete full face with some eye cream, moisturizer, foundation that was perfect for my skin and concealer and the powder, bronzer, highlight, and finishing spray. I already had on eyeshadow that I wanted to keep so he left that but I was super happy with how it turned out! He was super nice and we had a great conversation while he was doing my makeup and I will definitely be going back. I ended up buying the foundation and concealer and got the free gift since it was around $70 for both. The free gift was the tarte "lights camera lashes" mascara. read more

Although the atmosphere seems professional as well as assuring, I visited the Benefit Brow Bar at this Ulta location and was severely disappointed. There may have not been anything wrong with my eyebrows, yet I cannot say the same for my skin around them. I was burnt by the wax used in the process and now have painful, blistered scabs on the front/center on my face. I have a big event this weekend and trusted their services to do my eyebrows properly, but obviously that was not the case. I'm extremely dissatisfied with my visit there and advise you to go else where if you don't want to risk your face being singed with hot wax. read more

Please do not go here for your hair. It has been a couple weeks since I had to calm myself down to write a respectful review. I went into the salon with an appointment labeled "partial bottom-half hair color, w/ treatment." I asked the cosmetologist for balayage and I even showed her a picture straight from Pinterest. I told her I wanted exactly what was in the picture (style, color, length, etc.) and for the very few highlights that go into the model's top of head to also be dyed on me too. She stated several times, "I gotcha, this is going to look so good!" Well, this was my first time getting my hair dyed EVER, so I was naïve. She began with the top of my head and had plenty of dye left, so I thought she was just doing the highlight part, rinsing it out, and we were coming back to do the actual balayage part..... NOPE. I don't think she even knew what balayage was, which is weird bc you have a license and went to school for this... whatever, just don't go here. It was $270 after all said and done, which $67 was a TRIM. Don't go here unless you're fine with paying higher prices than you would pay at a higher-level salon AND lower quality results, and possibly not even get what you clearly communicated to the employee. I went into Ulta to grab a few things and because I had to interview a retail employee for a paper for one of my classes. The girl who helped me first (I didn't catch her name) was so sweet, friendly and helpful. When I told her about my paper, she led me to her manager, Sheryl, for the interview. Sheryl is the BEST. She was so willing to help, and her answers were sincere. The interview was about Ulta's customer service policy, and it was obvious how much she cared for customers, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and empathy. I honestly would go back just to hang out with the employees. Also, someone get Sheryl a raise asap! read more

Ulta Beauty is my absolute favorite store. I love their point system and the fact that they offer both drugstore and department store brands of beauty products. That being said, this particular location is lackluster. Of the three stores in the Columbia area, it happens to be the most convenient one for me, but it also happens to be my last choice. The majority of the employees at this location are unfriendly and unhelpful. They make me feel as though I am interrupting their day when I ask questions or need help. I have actually been told by an employee at this location that they were short staffed and they did not have time to help me. I've also gone in to get my eyebrows waxed and been told that the Brow Bar was shut down early because the employee who was supposed to be working it was busy doing other things. One of the my favorite things about stores like Ulta and Sephora is that the employees are so knowledgeable about the products and so willing to share their impressions and suggestions. This is not the case at this particular location. I do not know her name in particular; however, there is one younger female who works there who was extremely helpful when I was in the market for a new flat iron. On that same trip, the store manager was working the cash register and was also extremely helpful. Unfortunately, that experience was the exception and not the rule. Due to the convenience of the location and my love for the store in general, I continue to hold out hope that the staff members I have had negative encounters with were just having a bad day. However, I will say that I visit an Ulta store at least one per week, I have been in this particular location more than 30 times in the past year and I can only remember one positive experience. I will give this store 4 stars due to my overall approval of Ulta Beauty, but this location needs serious work. read more

I live out in Lexington and drive out to this location just to see her. She does a fantastic job of helping me achieve the look I want while giving great product recommendations. So, I've been willing to pay a higher price ($70+) for even a simple trim to make sure it does not end in tears. A few months ago, I decided to be more budget-friendly and try out the Salon at Ulta. I had Rosemarie and was pleasantly surprised. Worried that I might have just gotten lucky with a stylist, I cautiously went in for a second visit today. This time I had Annie, and was again very pleased with the outcome. Both trips I got the "haircut and style" which includes shampoo and conditioner, cut, and style.
