My stylist left so they recommended two options for a stylist I picked Theresa and booked 6 weeks out. Suddenly, the week before my appointment Theresa would not be in the salon that day (kinda short notice but may have been unavoidable) They recommended Presley she's new, but they assured me she was excellent--checked out her IG looked good (she was a new stylist...my intuition was screaming NO)...went last Saturday she was messy with product, I had to ask to wipe bleach off my gown 3 times so it didn't ruin my clothes and she insisted I need a shadow root (I disagreed but she convinced me it created a more gradual grow out)....right before she ron es my color I felt like rubber bands were being pulled out of the roots and it was odd and taking longer than expected l-- but the color looked great and I was pleased. That evening I was outside at an event and when I got back to my car there were a Mohawk of broken hairs all standing up from my part and my scalp was red. After I washed and blow dryer my hair Thursday my entire top layers of hair are broken and stick out--no flyaways--broken fried hair oh and despite a good trim my ends are fried and the color Looks nothing like the day I left. I contact the salon they ask for pics and say it may be Tuesday before management can "review" ...they'd have to see it in person--but didn't schedule me?!?? Refunded my money and I begged them to tell me what to do now to prevent further damage (like a treatment or product) they basically said don't use heat--cool so I spent 200$++my hair is totally destroyed and it's getting worse everyday BUT as long as I never style my hair it will get better (these 1 inch broken hairs will take 5 years to grow to my current length)!! Absolutely appalling--they literally dgaf if all my hair breaks off and is ruined--Wow!! A refund doesn't fix what she did and they do NOT care-this is a crappy salon! Update they texted me today to tell me that because of my Yelp review they won't be able to service me anymore bc I made it very clear how I felt about their salon. This person actually implied me using a jot tool caused the damage!!! My stylist is McClain, after reading her profile I felt like she was what I was looking for and I was right. She knew exactly what I was asking for and made sure to ask what my overall hair goals for the future were. A few months after my first few appts I was getting my nails done and someone was having a conversation about how amazing this place was, so I chimed in. I went there a little over a week ago to get my hair partially highlighted. I called multiple times to get a price range and they could never tell me. I looked online and the price for partial highlights was 70 and a haircut was around 40, so I thought it couldn't be much over that. I came in and asked the salon for the below photos. I was also asking for a color corrector because I had previously temporarily dyed my hair brown with a toning conditioner. When I sat down the price went from 100+ to 230. I was charged 90 for gloss which wasn't just a gloss it was a toner so that my hair wouldn't look orange after. And then the other price was for more bleach and a haircut. I asked for the pictures below and specifically for NO traditional highlights. I wanted low maintenance dimensional highlights and face frames She told me my hair would not be as blonde as the pictures I showed her but it would be blonde. instead of trying to get the color out first she bleached my hair and it turned pink very disappointing considering I would rather not dye my hair then it show up pink. Im most upset that my hair is traditionally highlighted and there is definitely no face framing. I called back to ask for a refund and the guy said I had to come in have it fixed by the stylist. I told him I didn't want to kill my hair considering I just bleached it but he said no refunds. Being that I have bad anxiety I really didnt want to have to confront her on my hair so I asked to speak to him alone and he said no she had to be there. I have so enjoyed the services of my stylist, Houston Pazda, at Metropolis. Houston is extremely talented, professional and friendly. Even though their prices are very high, and I'm a retired teacher on a fixed income, my experience has been well worth the cost. If I have had to cancel an appointment due to illness, I have been happy to pay a steep penalty. They require what I believe to be a somewhat unreasonable cancellation policy which requires a 48 hour notice. The owner/manager is well-known and has never spoken to me since I have been a patron of his salon. My experiences with all other staff members have been wonderful. Unfortunately, I find that I have been made to feel unappreciated and disrespected by management. Today, he didn't even have the courtesy of talking directly with me about my violation of his cancellation policy. I feel like I'm being punished, and I know that I am no longer welcome there. I went to McClain at Metropolis Salon on a whim because I desperately needed my hair done and she did no disappoint! I am very picky with my hair and stylists so this was a breath of fresh air! I started my journey with Metropolis Salon about a year ago after trying several salons in the area that were not a great fit for me. I have very thick hair that I color red which can be a challenge for some stylists. I have been working with Nicole Rivera-Fox at Metropolis Salon and I have finally found my stylist! She understands how to cut my thick hair and has been willing to adventurous hair colors when I get bored of the same old color. I highly recommend this salon! read more

This is the best salon that I have ever been to. The atmosphere is clean and bright and they have complimentary wine, coffee, and seasonal cocktails. They have massage chairs in the shampoo room which made for a very relaxing experience. Nikita was wonderful and very informative; she walked me through her process, telling me what products she was using, having me feel my hair texture as we went along, and teaching me how to maximize my curl pattern. I just went in for a simple wash and blow dry. I was immediately served with wine and water. Taken to the wash room where the bowl was comfortable and the chair gave massages. Greg has cut and colored my hair since I moved to Columbia for grad school in 2017. The aesthetic he and his team have created and continue to refine each time I visit sets the standard. I had Virgin hair and Greg turned me into a dimensional brunette with a layered cut, and I never feel more fabulous than I do leaving Metropolis Salon. More expensive than DC or New York for the fastest Keratin I've had in my life. The stylists did a great job and were very nice people. As a first time customer who dropped nearly $400 including tip, I was dropped as soon as the stylist's next customer came in. While I do have very thick hair, I've done at least 10 keratin treatments all over the east coast in nice salons. This was the fastest and most expensive yet. Very disappointing since the receptionist and stylists started out nicely. First - I have NOT been serviced by this establishment. However, after calling multiple times hoping to speak with a person to schedule a visit, I just kept receiving a voicemail directing me to go online to make an appointment. I understand to save time and stress, businesses utilize online booking often. The unfortunate thing is you are REQUIRED to submit your credit card information to simply LOOK at the schedule. I received an email stating my credit card had been 'securely' stored on file with them, even though their appointment system showed ZERO availability for the services I requested. I received a pop up message saying nothing was available for the combination of services I wanted (balayage or full highlight + cut) and to call their phone number for more info!!! Even though no one answers and it sends straight to voicemail every time! So now my personal information is stored in your system and I don't even have a chance for an appointment in a reasonable time frame? Suggestion - only require a client's credit card AFTER an appointment has been chosen and they want to secure it. Seems a bit less shady. Obviously, I won't be patronizing this business anytime soon but I will be calling to have someone remove my information from your system. read more

Let me start out by saying I have never wrote a review online because I've never been so upset that I wanted to write about it on the internet. However, I am extremely displeased with how my hair turned out after going to Metropolis salon. I got a Brazilian blowout, which I have had many times before from my New York salon. When my hair was done here, it looked great going out the door but after about 3 weeks my hair was back to its same texture as before. Other Brazilians have lasted me around 3 months as they are supposed to. To clarify, it is not that I have tons of long or thick hair either, I have thin, yet curly, shoulder length, never color treated hair. This is in no way worth 300$ of my money. Had my hair colored by Nichole and it was one of the best salon appointments I've had. My first appointment with Nichole was a haircut and during that appointment she answered questions I had about my hair color from another salon. I wasn't happy with the color job from the other salon and Nichole made sure she understood what I didn't like about it and told me her suggestions for correcting it. I went today for a last minute blow out for my formal. I was told over the phone I'd be working with a "level 1" stylist, and as the levels go up, the pricier it is. I didn't think much of since all I wanted was basically washed and styled hair. My hair stylist was very kind yet when it seemed time to wash my hair, my hair was barely touched or rinsed during the shampooing and conditioning stage! It was almost as if it was a hair stylist who doesn't like to touch hair. I have a lot of hair therefore when my head isn't throughly washed and scrubbed, there is just clumps and clumps of shampoo in my hair. My hair was dirtier then when I walked in and when I got home I immediately re washed it. Nothing personal a great atmosphere, I would just recommend the level 1 stylists practice washing hair throughly! read more
