Thomas sat with us and talked while we waited to get in the salon chair. He cracked jokes and made us feel so welcome. Most of the patrons who came in, he knew their names and probably knew them from years of them coming back. When my friend finally got into the salon chair, Connie went straight to work. She took time and care into the haircut and it looked great at the end! She talked to me on the side and was so funny and sweet. I love the owners here and they give out great haircuts! When I sat down, the stylist immediately began spraying my hair with water. I politely asked her not to spray my hair because I had specific preferences for my natural hair. I also asked if she would mind taking down my twists from the bottom up to help minimize frizz and breakage. She agreed, but after watching her remove a few twists, I realized the technique was not what I had requested. At that point, I politely asked if we could end the service because I didn't feel comfortable continuing. The stylist unhooked my drape, and as I handed it back to her, another staff member apparently observed only part of the interaction. I was then asked to go to the front desk. Without anyone asking me what had happened, another employee informed me that my service had been terminated and that I was no longer welcome to return to the salon. I was completely shocked and confused. When I asked what I had done wrong, no one could give me an answer. Instead, I was escorted to the lobby while my sister remained in the salon receiving her service, which made the experience even more embarrassing. Only after I had already been asked to leave did staff finally come over to ask for my version of events. At that point, I learned that an advisor believed I had snatched the drape off. That simply did not happen. The stylist had already removed buttons to the drape herself, and I was handing it back to her. The advisor had been observing from across the room and did not witness the interaction up close, yet a decision was made without speaking to me first. As someone who values healthy hair care, I believe clients should be able to respectfully communicate their preferences and even choose to discontinue a service if they are uncomfortable. That should not result in being embarrassed, escorted out, or banned from returning without an opportunity to explain what actually happened. Unfortunately, because of how this situation was handled, I will never return. I hope Paul Mitchell Hair Studio reviews how misunderstandings are addressed in the future and ensures that all parties are heard before making decisions that affect customers. If you are someone who likes to advocate for your hair care and communicate your preferences, I encourage you to make sure your stylist is receptive to your concerns. Every client deserves to be treated with respect and given the opportunity to be heard.

The trim was fine, she brought in a guy from the barber class to work on my undercut. The dye was to be blonde with red highlights. The blonde was fine, but the red didn't take. She said I could come back in for a redo, but she didn't know if they would recharge me. I made an appointment, but it was the that hurricane Helene came through so I'm not even sure if they opened, and I canceled, because I wasn't risking it. As far as a good service at a decent price I highly recommend, but just remember these are students and I don't think there's much of a guarantee. That's not to say they don't care, and I'm certain they will at least try to make it right. Also the new building is nice, I did prefer the old location, but at least there's a huge parking lot.

They both told me to not hesitate to call them with any questions, or return the next morning before I departed if I had any issues. I've already recommended this location of Glow Out to several coworkers, and cannot recommend this location to enough people! Truly a beautiful salon with such wonderful people!

Around the end of last year, my hair was down around my shoulders in length, as I had not had a haircut in about a year. After reading many reviews, I decided to go to metropolis and get my hair cut by Sarah. I wanted to try a totally new style. Prior to my cut by Sarah, I had never really had a haircut that I was more than just okay with. For the first time in my life I can say I am sooo happy with my hair these past 6 months or so. I have had 4-5 haircuts in total with Sarah. My first cut, I showed Sarah pictures of what I wanted, she listened very intently, and asked questions about specifics as we went. The haircut starts with a shampoo and hot towel, followed by the haircut, and then styling. Sarah has showed me how to style it myself exactly how she does, so that every day it looks as good as the day I get it cut. The interior of the building is extremely nice and the hairstyling products and equipment used are all of top notch quality. Sarah has told me about how metropolis will send their hairstylists to conferences around the country to continue to advance their skills and stay up to date with the best methods. It's hard to imagine there is a more professional and upscale salon out there. Everyone has always been so friendly, and even complimentary beverages are offered. Even if I move away from Columbia, I will still come back to get my hair cut by Sarah. I have had a lottt of bad haircut experiences in my life, and life is most definitely better when you are confident in your hair and do not have any doubts in it. read more

Having your hair done at Metropolis is a treat! From the moment you step in the door, the service is top tier. The salon is beautiful and the atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and relaxing. The stylists are highly skilled and I always leave feeling beautiful and confident. But what truly makes Metropolis so special is the relationships they have with their clients that extend beyond the walls of the building. My relationship with Metropolis began before it even existed! The first time I sat in Greg's chair I was a 4th grader and he was a stylist at another salon. Flash forward almost 10 years and I'm a college student and he's the successful owner of his own salon! He's been with me and my hair through the awkward middle school phase, high school proms, college formals, a huge transformation chop and all of life's stages in between. We have both watched each other grow and created such a special bond in the process. It's these values that Greg has taken with him and instilled into his team that turn a salon into a place that feels like home. I've truly enjoyed watching (with fabulous hair might I add) Greg, and the entire Metropolis team, pursue their passion over the years and look forward to many many more. What can I say other than this place is simply the best! The team is so helpful, welcoming, and talented, and the salon itself is absolutely gorgeous. From the moment you walk in, you feel relaxed as like you are well taken care of (the complimentary mimosas, coffee, ans other beverages definitely feel like a treat!) I did the new client questionnaire and was contacted that same day and offered an appointment with Rebecca. I had some issues previously with chunky, brassy balayage, and Rebecca listened to my concerns about my hair and what I ideally wanted. She came up with a plan for how I could achieve the cool balayage brunette I wanted, all while mainly the integrity of my hair. I now have the best hair of my life (not an overstatement--it's the truth!) Additionally, the team took extra precautions during COVID-19 to make sure everyone felt safe, and I appreciated that immensely. Truthfully, having an appointment at Metropolis to look forward to during lockdown was such a saving grace for me during a hectic year. I went here for a blowout to start my weekend off right, but it ended up feeling like a wonderful, relaxing end to a long work week. I was offered refreshments at the front desk and the facility was clean and stylish. I would note that I wasn't thrilled by their database they asked me to fill out on their iPad as it saves and displays all previous customers info for the next customers to see. But that's where the complaints end. I was seen quickly by Jasmine who was exactly what I was looking for. Jasmine made every step of the process a pleasurable experience. If she was shampooing, it felt like her entire focus was on it. Every section of hair she blow dried felt like the most important section of hair. She had a very gentle touch that I would describe as ASMR-like. We spent the majority of the time in a comfortable silence, but I wouldn't say she was disengaged. I loved that she wasn't chatty or complaining, but rather focused and polite. Of course my hair came out beautifully, but more importantly to me, I fully enjoyed the journey to my great hair. BEYOND THANKFUL FOR KIRA at Metropolis Salon!! She truly sets the bar higher than any stylist I've ever seen or known!! I've lived in a lot of different cities, and have more horror stories than good ones in this industry, however, Kira has COMPLETELY restored my faith and trust in the hair industry, truly surpassing my expectations every single visit!! Her extensive training shines through & she's handled my course, wavy, multi-ethnic hair HANDS DOWN better than ANY other stylist ever has!!! I have zero reservations when I sit in her chair because she's proven time and time again that she's going to deliver even more than I expect and I LOVE IT!!! Friends seeking a new salon... Run, don't walk, to Metropolis Salon! There are not enough accolades to bestow on the lovely people who will take care of you here. I came to KaraJean scared and scarred from experiences from past salons. She was so kind and understanding! I was asked questions about what I wanted, likes/dislikes, and together we came up with a plan. Teamwork! Nikita has been cutting my wavy hair for over a decade. She is personable, fun, and positive. She is consistentand my hair is just how I like it. She listens to my requests for little adjustments and makes it happen. I'm a super low maintenance hair person and my cuts are always perfect. I switched to Metropolis when she moved salons a year ago and I am so pleased. I use Oribe products and they have a points system and seasonal sales that gets me a free product every now and then. This place is gorgeous, clean, comfortable and truly the most relaxing part of my week. I get a latte when I walk in the door (they have a special menu and mimosas, wine, snacks), they are always running on time. The shampoo room is super relaxing, with serene music, massage chairs, a hot towel as the conditioner works in, and dim lighting. I've been going to Felicia for 6+ years now, and could not ask for a better colorist if I tried. She knows when to tell me no (for the health of my hair), but also when to let me try something slightly different if I want to. It has gotten to the point where I just sit down in her chair and let her work her magic without even telling her what to do anymore because it ALWAYS looks wonderful. I am even more thankful that she's now at Metropolis, because the staff there go above and beyond to accommodate my crazy schedule and have done a FANTASTIC job adapting to everything with COVID. They really care about their clients and brand, and are always willing to go the extra mile! Any upscale salon I'd tried had made me feel a bit like an outsider - this has never been the case at Metropolis. Greg and his team have truly created a space that provides you the top of the line services and products you've always wanted while making you feel completely at home, welcome and valued - no matter if it is your first visit or you've been a client for years. I loved this experience! I was impressed by the scheduling process alone. I had questions, and the reception staff were more than happy to make sure I had all the information I needed. I was given reminders for my appointment with clear instructions about parking. When I arrived, I was greeted with smiles and kind words. I was offered a drink too! When Alex, my stylist, came to greet me, she made me feel welcome. She told me exactly what her process was for a curly haircut. She asked what I wanted, and then she made a couple suggestions. She made sure I liked what she was doing to my hair throughout the cut. Then... the shampoo!! So relaxing... the chairs are nice with a gentle massager. Alex explained her styling process to me as well. Once my hair was dry, she made some small "adjustments" to the cut so that my curls looked just right. We had fun talking too!!! Today was my first visit to Metropolis Salon. The reception area was very clean, modern and inviting. I was greeted quickly and signed in easily. The receptionists were attentive, offering a refreshing drink and a comfortable place to sit and wait. I didn't wait long before my stylist, Houston Pazda, came to take me back and talk about my needs and expectations. She listened carefully, and I showed her a picture of a former hairstyle that had worked for me in the past. Then we went to the shampoo area. Wow! So relaxing...I sat in a high-end massage chair and had an excellent shampoo experience. During my haircut, Houston was focused and extremely precise. She is a Master Stylist and is so personable. I loved my experience at this salon! I am a military spouse stationed with my husband at Fort Jackson. I am new to the area and found Metropolis Salon through Yelp. After looking through reviews, I decided to give them a call. Additionally, I was hoping to get an appointment day of - and they made it happen! I got a wash, cut, and blowout with Mariana and I could not be happier. She was so incredibly welcoming and kind. She talked with me about my hair and gave helpful recommendations for a healthy trim. She even recommended a hair mask for me, which I think really helped my hair and was very affordable. We had fun conversation during my entire visit. I would absolutely recommend this salon! I moved to the Columbia area two years ago and was eager to find a new hair stylist after 15 years with my stylist in my home town. After a lot of research, I settled on Metropolis Salon and started seeing Houston. I quickly found a home there. Metropolis not only provides excellent, best-in-class service, but their experience and approach to customer service is second to none. The atmosphere, special touches, attention to detail and spirit of service provides a fully immersive experience - an escape from the day-to-day grind and an uplifting environment. Houston has helped me rehab my hair and find a cut/color plan that complements its texture and my face shape. I wouldn't go anywhere else in Columbia! Everyone at this salon is kind and helpful, and I really appreciate the option to book online. Laura always does a fantastic job with my hair, and I've also had good experiences with Kelly and Shay. Not a single person has ever pressured me into services or products I'm not interested in, which I really appreciate-- in the past, stylists elsewhere have kind of rolled their eyes and my preference for a simple style. Not here! Laura always checks in with me throughout the haircut, at each stage, to make sure that I'm pleased with the way things are going. I absolutely love this salon, the vibes are immaculate. There's beautiful plants, delicious complimentary drinks and snacks, and amazing stylists like Katie Borges! I have long brown hair and have been getting lighter balayages and touch ups from Katie for a few months now and I have been very pleased with my results. She does a great job of paying attention to what I like/want and making it happen :) She respects not cutting too much off my overall length, even if I could use it, and always has great advice on color care and product recommendations. I've enjoyed coming to Metropolis Salon since moving to Columbia and have never liked a salon more, and I'm rather picky. My stylist Alyssa is an extremely skilled & talented stylist. She transformed my dull, uneven red hair color to a summery, strawberry blonde. Alyssa masterfully achieved this goal while maintaining the integrity & health of my hair (very important). I now love my hair color & often receive compliments. People think it's natural!!! Alyssa has also provided tips and tricks to help me achieve the best results out of my hair care products. The staff at Metropolis salon is warm, and welcoming. The salon mood is laid back, and I always leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. They offer complimentary drinks, and bagged snacks. They also frequently offer product discounts (much appreciated) which are displayed at stylist stations. I always feel my money is well spent in this lovely salon. I highly recommend. read more

Love this salon! From the moment you walk in the door, Jessica and Zack make you feel right at home. Kelly does THE best blowouts!! She is experienced and knows exactly how to recreate whatever idea I have in my head regarding how my hair should look. I know that she will always give me her honest opinion and I trust her opinion. She listens to me when I say that I do/don't like a certain product or styling tool and she remembers my preferences. Kelly does a thorough shampoo and I feel like my hair is clean and there is no residue left in it after the shampoo. She is also a perfectionist and will not let me leave the salon if she feels like a curl is "messed up" or if there is a hair out of place. Every time I come in my stylist (Sarah H) always gives me the best welcome and makes sure I'm comfortable! Everyone gets complimentary snacks/drinks and it makes me feel so welcome! Metropolis is the best salon I've ever been to, it's always clean and tidy. They have brand new salon chairs which are way more comfortable than most, and the wash bowl chairs even give you a nice massage! Sarah always does an amazing job with my hair. Since my hair is multi-textured she gives me great product recommendations and shows me the best way to wash/style at home. I always leave with a huge smile on my face! I love love love it here.
