I have had some great service all of the times I have walked into Ulta. Within about 5 minutes there has been someone to offer me assistance if I needed, which is always a plus for me since the place is a sea of beauty that I just don't know a whole lot about. This past time I came to Ulta I wanted to get matched for my 'summer tanned' skin as my recent shade just seemed a bit too white currently. The lady who helped me was super informative on why she picked the shade she matched on my neck/cheek over a couple other shades. She was able to explain it to me in ways I could understand and make me feel comfortable in my purchase. Makeup can be expensive and I like feeling confident when making my purchase. Since she asked if I had any more questions I decided to ask her about something that would help with darkness under my eyes. She explained to me which product she would use, why she would use it and why a lot of people are misinformed and pick a different product that actually makes the appearance worse instead of better. I walked out of there very confident with my two purchases and have felt the same confidence when wearing the items as well! Thanks for the great help and education! read more

I loooooove Ulta! The prices are better than Sephora and my favorite part of Ulta is you can find even the drug store brands all in one place! Also, they always have a really good sale going on you've just gotta look through the ads to find which brand you like is on sale and GO! Honestly, I've found across the board at many make up stores the make up associates aren't always the nicest bunch. I have had short responses and flighty girls help me before but not too bad of an experience here.. I've kind of adjusted to the attitude of women who work in this industry.. just a side note. The only thing I would say is on my most recent visit I asked for a sample of foundation and it came in a cup that you would put side of ranch in with another cup smushed on top to keep it from leaking in my bag. :/ maybe they just ran out but if this is what they normally use they definitely need to step up the sample cups as a make up store. They also have a hair salon which I've never been to.. So I don't know how I feel about that but they have a lot of hair products! read more

This particular Ulta was very disappointing. I have been to many and this one was very limited in its products. It didn't have nearly the variety of items that I've seen at others. The products they did have such as BareMinerals, most of what I needed was completed out of stock (no mascara, lip gloss or eyeliner). They only a few bath products to select from. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because the staff helped me try to locate what I needed, but couldn't find. Honestly if you need something from Ulta, try a different one. read more

The stylist is a very sweet person - but when you show someone the same picture for your highlights three times in a row, and all three times it turns out differently (plus the third time I was brassy orange with grey highlights), it is 3 strikes you're out. I was unaware that a salon existed in Ulta stores. My mom talks about Ulta all the time and loves it, but just for make up and other supplies. Once I discovered I could make an appointment online, I was there. I needed a haircut badly. I had the best time, the staff was so sweet and fun. I haven't had any great experiences in salons, hadn't found a stylist who I wanted to go back to again, but I had this experience at Ulta. I'm extremely loyal when I find a business I like and I can't wait to go back and see Steven again. It was so much fun and he did a great job cutting my hair, but not taking it too far, like they sometimes do. He listened carefully to what I wanted and was a delight to chat with and made me feel very comfortable. I went in with a specific item in mind. I had to interrupt the 2 employees talking about some girl so I could ask them for help finding a specific lipstick color. While I was in the store, I decided to get my hair trimmed because I had some time to kill. My stylist, Madison, seemed nice. However she didn't seem to understand how drastically angled I wanted my haircut. Then when she was blow drying my hair, she asked me if wanted my hair curled. It didn't really matter to me, but then I decided to just have her straighten it. She again kept insisting to curl it. I just had wanted it straightened but she really seemed to want to curl it. When I went to pay, I realized I was charged $10 for the curling, which I was never told. If I was given an option, I would have preferred to not have it curled for $10. I felt completely taken advantage of as a customer, but by that time I had to leave so I couldn't stop to speak to her manager. Not cool. read more

When I arrived, they had no one available and asked me to wait 90min until someone showed up. I was late to my wedding and stressed out. The manager was not sympathetic at all. I am always so unimpressed with the customer service at this location. On multiple occasions, I have walked into the store to look for a product and have seen groups of employees (3-5 people) gossiping rather than helping costumers. Today, I went looking for a specific brand of foundation. I circled the aisles of this brand for about 5 minutes and couldn't find the foundation. Meanwhile, there was a group of about 5 employees talking near me, I'm not sure what about, but it was not related to makeup/hair/skincare etc. It sounded more like a discussion on someone's dating life. Finally, one of the employees looked over to me and asked if I needed help. I showed her a photo of what I was looking for and was told that the product was no longer made. She then left. Despite the fact that there were multiple other employees right next to her listening to our conversation, not one of them offered to help me find an alternative foundation or color match me. I wandered the store, chose another brand, and left. I will probably make the drive to a different location next time I need something. read more

This Ulta beauty salon is top notch!! Same service as you'd get at those other snooty establishments in a much more inviting atmosphere. I made my appointment same day and was seen by Kashia! She didn't flinch when I showed her what I had done to my hair and then what my expectations were. The best part is that she exceeded those expectations by ten fold!! Not only did I walk out feeling like a Rockstar, everyone else noticed too!! Kashia was fun, friendly and professional! There is no one I will go to in Grand Rapids ever again after meeting her and seeing her magic! I had dark natural roots with a terrible orange tint to my hair. Kashia gave me options. I decided to go bold with doing a total bleach then toner, followed by a hair cut. I never bleached my hair before so I was nervous. Somehow I put all my trust in her immediately! I hope Ulta reads these reviews because Kashia now means the world to me!! She pulled me out of my old drab hair and gave me confidence I never knew I had. Thank you, Kashia!! read more

Ulta beauty is very un-trained in many things. The first reason is probably the beauty reason yo give this a 1 star. Someone I know got their haircut there. What he asked for was a bit shorter that he had it, all the same size, and make so he would still be able to comb his hair the way he normally did. The only one that they did as asker was keep everything the same size, but his hair was extremely short and he couldn't comb it at all whatsoever. Next, their makeup products aren't as effective as they claim. At first glance they seem like the work well, but when you try it out it isn't that good. read more

Wet n Wild has exclusives with Ulta. However, this Ulta's WnW section was horrendous. There was practically nothing there. The Neutrogena section was completely empty as well. I went to Ulta- a place I go quite often, a few weeks ago and I may never go to this location again. I was very shocked and hurt in the way I was treated. I selected a product- a pricey one might I add- made sure the signs were correct for the price of the product and proceeded to walk to the register. When I got to the checkout my price rang up as 30 dollars more than the sign RIGHT IN FRONT of the product price that was claimed to be. I brought this up to the cashier- who was very sweet and she went to the product to see what was wrong. She came back and said that she had taken the sign down because it was mismatched even though it said the name of the specific product I was getting. Might I add the price that was rung up was no where in sight. My friend who was with me was getting fed up and wanted to talk to a manager. She is a marketing manager and was upset that this store was using false marketing and getting away with it. The manager came up to us and was so rude. I have never witnessed being treated this way by anyone at a retail store before. She told me it was my fault, that I should have known and never once apologized for the error. She was speaking in a condescending and belittling tone and I have never felt so horrible. I felt bad for the stores associate because she did nothing wrong and kept apologizing. I probably would have ended up still buying the the product if the manager would have apologized and explained herself better. But due to her rude manor and complete disrespect towards a customer who was being kind and trying to justify the situation, I found it absolutely appalling and wanted to get out there as fast as I could. I have worked in retail for years and never once- no matter how horrible a customer was treating me would have ever in a million years treated them like that. I love Ulta and usually have a great experience but I will not be giving this location anymore of my business. This is no way to treat a customer and I am still very very upset by this. read more

I have been coming to this Ulta location since it first opened. I like how close it is and how there are drugstore brands along with high-end brands. I have had a few instances with the cashiers during the checkout process. Several times when the store is not busy, there isn't a store employee to be found and I've had to go to the back of the store to find someone. One time I waited 10 minutes in front of an employee while she helped someone. She claimed that she didn't see me standing and put my purchase in a bag that was way too big and didn't even care or wanted to be bothered. Other times I've been mocked while answering the cashiers' questions while checking out. Well today I waited in a line that had 20 people. When I finally was able to be checked out the cashier I had and apologized for the wait and thanked me. Ulta needs to polish up their employees and learn presentation skills when interacting with customers. read more

I downloaded this app for the sole purpose of submitting this complaint. I went to get my eyebrows done at this location yesterday. The lady was very nice, and my eyebrows actually look great, so it's nothing against her. But some of the wax ripped off my skin on my eyelid, to the point of it bleeding. When I confronted the manager about this, she told me to ice it. When I said that it wasn't really fair that I had to pay for it, she told me that it was probably my fault because of the face wash I use. NO apology. Just simply, it was probably my fault that my eyelid is bleeding. I can't even use makeup on it now because it crusts and burns. So rude. Won't be coming back here. read more

I enjoy buying my make-up at Ulta and this was the first time I went to the salon for a hair cut & style. Mindy was fabulous and did a great job with my hair. She walked me through the blow-out process as well to help me with styling at home. However, while I was getting my hair cut I asked if anyone was available to paint my 2 year old daughter's nails. There was a young woman who was available and I was assuming since it was just a polish it would be $5-$7 plus a tip. Apparently, just a simple polish was $25 (I was told it was $35 normally but they gave me a discount) -- this only included the polish -- not a manicure with cuticle clipping, nail clipping, hand soaking or a hand massage... Just a polish. I will be making an appointment again with Mindy to get my hair cut and styled, but I will never have my nails done at Ulta. I feel that before my daughter had her nails polished one of the employees should have said just to polish them would be $25-$35. I understand this is their job and of course they want to be paid and tipped for their service, but I feel like I was robbed and kind of taken advantage of. read more

I guess this is a bitter sweet review. Some employees are fabulous and can act like they care, others are blatantly rude. The other day I went in and had a great experience with the ´high end makeup´ assistant, who understood what she was doing and was not pushy but instead extremely helpful in making suggestions and understanding what I wanted. However, when I got to the line, the cashier (i believe her name was Keonna...?) was extremely rude and offputting. She acted odd when i didnt want to give my number, said in a short tone my phone number was given on my ulta card anyway so it didnt matter if i told her, and practically sneered when I ¨don´t have any points on my card anyway so...¨. I guess my recommendation is teach your employees to grow up, reward the ones who act kindly more, and make sure you don´t just entertain the customers who LOOK like theyre going to spend a thousand bucks. However, they are definitely better at customer service than the sephoras in this area. read more
