As we all know the drugstore game has been VERY strong the last decade with budget beauty prices on breast performing products that rival the high end counterpart. We love NYX but Anastasia Beverly Hills always be my eyebrow holy grail. See? Things like that can easily happen here. My last visit found me delighted to see so many Korean Brands which saves a trip to an Asian specific beauty store in the city. Hair needs and tools are easy peasy to buy here. I love that too. Travel sizes of your faves are also here. You don't have to fill bottles that will explode on the plane like mine did. Sigh. Browse. Figure out what you like and yeah. It breaks my heart to write bad review, since I try always think people try their best. Got my hair done by Nailea B. Highlights and cut, may hair is very fine but I have lot of it. She seemed to know what she was talking so I trusted her. But she gave me horrible yellow highlights plus she must of toned them yellow, because the color was on like 2 hours, the cut is so so as well, which would be easier fix. I was in the rush to leave since it took more then 4,5 hours finish all this, so I didn't get the chance to really analyze the hair do. I felt bad that she worked so hard so I left her good tip. Little did I know, when I put my hair in the ponytail the front is not even close to hairline it's like inch and half further plus it's so uneven like I've let me 9 year color my hair. I don't know what to do, I would love to get refunded or get it fixed and hope I'm not loosing any of my hair! read more

If only the customer service was as good as their selection. Or came close! Customer service 2/10. The employees may moonlight as bouncers, and gotten their jobs confused? Standing by the door 15 minutes before closing, in an effort to tell each customer exactly how long they have. Then....verbally telling customers in the checkout line "you now have 2 minutes", "you now have 1 minutes," etc.....to the point they told my elderly mother, in the midst of paying, "you now have no time." My mom is almost 70, trying to check out and the cashier was acting as a stopwatch. Does she not have a mother, grandmother, etc? Where is the humanity?! Wtf PS-to the employees....you would be able to go home a lot faster if you simply asked your CUSTOMERS if they needed help finding anything. We woulda been out way faster. Always a great experience when browsing in here, I like to drag my bf along with me or shop by myself but one day I was feeling sorta down and browsing for some eyeliners and some new glitters/good foundation match and the employees are always kind when I have questions about certain products or brands. At checkout today I had some extra time and signed up for the rewards card and I'm glad I did I shop here frequently for skincare and self care products and the cashier was very kind to me even though I had some trouble with the buttons to finish the process but overall 100/10 for kind and genuine customer service and it made my day way better to stop here for a few shiny pick me ups. Wow! The Salon in Ulta Petaluma is a true hidden gem. After receiving a voucher in the mail a for haircut and style at the salon, it was difficult to resist giving it a try. But I'm so glad I went through with it. Carina is AMAZING at what she does. I definitely recommend her for your next visit. She's not only great (and very knowledgeable) with hair and make-up but she is truly passionate at what she does. The warm and welcoming service is a huge plus too! She's got a new regular in me! I am older and I don't like wandering around stores trying to find what I need. They listened to what I wanted, discussed my options, then found the right product for me since my original product is no longer available. Service at the register was excellent. I came in looking for mac foundation. After being assisted, I wanted to look around the store to see if I needed anything else. (You never know what you may "need" in the beauty store.) The person who assisted me proceeded to follow me around the store as if I was going to shoplift. I understand they have small items and it happens there, but I was highly insulted. I spent $65 in my 15 minutes there. I should have put my basket down and walked out. I would have spent a lot more if I wasn't so OBVIOUSLY being followed, watched, and made to feel like a thief. Just purchased approximately $80.00 of Redken hair products in Petaluma, California - Ulta. The store has advertisement all over the store and shelves - to receive free gift - a Spray Smooth Anti-Frizz with Heaty Protection 2.1oz with any $30.00 purchase. When I asked for the free gift she said only while supplies last and they were out. So I asked hmmm when did you guys hang the promotional signs and she replied this morning. So I said, "Oh so you are already out?" She says, "Well we should get our shipment in Tuesday. This is so FALSE ADVERTISING. This is about the 4th time this has happened to me. had the most wonderful experience. I shop at ulta often (not this particular store) but love their products, prices and customer service. This store is no different. I had a hair appointment at the ulta salon with Montana who did a full foil dimensional highlight, layered hair cut, blow dry and style. I am more than impressed. The colors came out exactly how I asked and her personality made the 31/2 hour long appointment so enjoyable. She is both talented & welcoming, which meant a lot to me since I am not from the area and have never been to this salon before. I would recommend her as a stylist/colorist to anyone in the area. After hardly wearing makeup for the last 3-4 years, I needed to get some foundation, mascara, and restock on a facial oil I use. I usually try to find things on my own so I searched for around five minutes. After that, Kyler asked if I needed any help and he showed me where the face oil was. I then went over to the makeup section to try to find a foundation and mascara. I was super overwhelmed since there were so many options! I found Kyler again and he gave me multiple options for both mascara and foundation. Kyler was SO helpful, kind, and a pleasure to talk to. I tried my new makeup last night and it is perfect! Horrible experience! I have curly hair and went in for a blowout -- they left my hair a frizzy mess. When I told her I didn't like it, she said that in order to straighten it, it would be an extra charge. First off, that is extremely discriminatory-- just because someone has textured hair, doesn't mean they should have to pay more for a service. Second, they never disclosed that using a straightener would be extra charge before starting the blowout. And on top of that, she rushed through the service. Even when I first sat down, she was making comments about my hair and asking me if my texture could actually be "straightened." Mind you, my hair is not even that curly so I can't imagine how she would treat other women of color with curlier hair. The other worker who I talked to afterwards was also very unhelpful. The "stylist" was Marina and I advise everyone to stay away. read more

Went in yesterday night and instead of it being a nice evening shopping. I ended being racially profiled and followed by the security guard. Instead of asking me if I needed help which I did, I turned around a low and behold an employee right next to me acting like she was on break watching me as well. Yet I had to ask her for help on finding a few items. Ulta has been in the news more then once for discrimination and racial profiling. Yesterday was the last day that I will spend my hard earned money at a company who treats those of color. I ended up spending $141.00 in the store last night. I don't recommend anyone coming here. I'll just continue to shop at Sephora. Ulta lost a platinum rewards member. Yelp does not allow for zero stars. read more

Lots of good things about this store. The customer service/make-up assistants have always been helpful with selections, suggestions, color options and application of make-up to help me decide what works best. They don't always have exactly what I need in stock but that's just the state of retail these days, still dealing with the fall out from supply chain issues. The problem lies when I get to the register for check out. They're pretty aggressive in wanting a phone number. When I politely decline, I get hit with all the repercussions of not offering it up. Two different sales clerks commented about how I "Might run into issues with returns, exchanges, or if I lose a gift card, it can't be replaced". So, my reciept isn't worth the paper it's printed on if they can't get my phone#? I'm only airing my grievernce because this is consistent protocol for here. Shopping at Ulta is a great experience, but I always leave with a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I typically love Ulta stores so when they opened one in my hometown I was really excited. I went in yesterday with my family an the store itself looks typical and great. However, I have never seen a more disgusting bathroom! There is absolutely no excuse for the muddy dirt all over the floor and literally piles of hair all over the floor! The plunger and toilet brush were out in te open the counter was filthy and the brand new walls had dirt marks all over them. It was so gross I even took pics to show my sister! I told y sister about it in line and then realized the girl in front of me was an employee. She never said a word, didn't concern herself at all. I overheard her tell the cashier and the cashier simply said "oh ya well they brought kids into Ulta" Are kids not allowed? This is a new store so I assume they have yet to train their staff but their lack of initiative and lack of attention to the stores condition is really disappointing read more

I have curly hair, and Christina knew exactly what to do with it. She is kind, funny, patient, and super talented. I plan on recommending her to all of my local friends! So I'm from the East Coast where there's an Ulta on every corner. I missed Ulta when I moved here. Well I miss it no more as they have opened a giant Ulta in Petaluma!! It's huge, neat, clean, and has a terrific staff. Great sale items too and all of the "little things" you forget you need are located right near the registers. I deleted my initial review for this location, since it reflects on a racial bias of service I felt at this location. The place is a typical beauty store similar to a Macy's look. I have to say I was impressed by the way the company has presented itself almost like Sephora with the addition of a beauty parlor. Prices are more expensive on same item merchandise you can locate at target right by the store such as hair products and soaps. They were too busy talking to each other to see if anyone needed help I guess. I wanted to get color matched but didn't feel like interrupting them. The girl that was working there on Sunday, July 5th at 3pm was extremely rude and not helpful at all. She just basically just told me "not my problem" and point to the social distancing signs... I've never been to an ulta with such sub par customer service. She really doesn't enjoy her job at all. Terrible Customer Service at the register today. I was not greeted or even looked at by the three employees behind the counter when I went to purchase my items. 'Phone number' was what was said to me when I was spoken to by the woman behind the counter and then she said the bit about signing up for the credit card. Zero eye contact, no smile, just two rehearsed sentence. I was not offered a bag so I asked for one and I also said that I would like the receipt with me. She snapped at me saying 'it's gonna ask you that'. NO-- a touch screen is going to ask me if I would like the receipt printed or emailed, not whether or not I want the receipt in my hand or in the bag. I was then barked at to 'have a nice day'. If this is the standard for customer service Ulta would be better off having Self Checkout because a computer would be warmer than this. read more

Went in today to smell and buy knew perfume. I spent about 10 minutes testing scents, while the security guard stood in the area. As I was about to pick my final scent the guard came and stood about 10 ft away at the end of the shelf and just stood facing and staring at me while I looked at the perfume I was deciding on. It was insanely uncomfortable and I almost left but wanted to buy it and also not seem like I was stealing at this point. I spent 50 dollars btw and I'm a woman of color. read more
