Called last minute for a hair cut for my little sister and Calypso was the only salon in our area who took us for a walk in/last minute appointment. All of the staff was so friendly and kind from first call, setting up the appointment to greeting us upon arrival at the salon. My sister had her hair cut by Sonia who was not only the kindest and funniest woman ever but also a very talented stylist. She took her time and gave my sister the exact cut and style what she wanted. My sister and I both left very happy, thank you to Sonia and Calypso team for being so welcoming and accommodating. 10/10. read more

This place just towed my car when they were closed and no spaces were occupied. I can't even believe anyone would support this place when they have so little regard for people. I am a public school teacher here in Santa Rosa and a single mom and just paid $450 which was a discount for parking there for less than an hour. We parked on labor day after hours 930pm, in a spot that wasn't even marked and they towed our car. We had to pay $600 for the one hour parking after hours and one of many spots that you couldn't even read no towing. Who calls a tow truck company at 930pm on a holiday to get a car towed?! I own a business and if you park in our spots I do not care if it's after hours. As long as you're gone by the time employees and customers arrive it's fine. I wouldn't want anyone to have to pay SO much money of something SO petty and shallow. read more

This is quite possibly the worst experience of my life. The staff here are horrible, it's obvious they cannot stand working for the owner, Rhondi, who clearly runs a North Korean style labor camp. Kim Jon Rhondi anyone? I'm surprised there isn't a few torture devices laying around the place just to keep her employees in line. The service I received here was abysmal, not to mention the substandard hair cut: my husband told me I looked like Bjork with severe alopecia when I got home. I'm positive the person cutting my hair was either drunk or under the influence of drugs (possibly meth?). The archaic service and banal conversation are so terrible you'd be advised to set your watch back 20 years when you walk in through the main door. The person cutting my hair was so thin she probably only has a dump once every four years, which also conveniently reminds me that I need to vote during the next election. If this business was the last place on earth to get another haircut then I'd rather cut my own head off. During my time in the salon I overheard (what I assume to be) the owner openly flaunting the fact that she enjoys getting cars towed from her parking lot: not the kind of person I want to give my business to. In fact, Yelp is littered with reviews highlighting the multitude of people who have had their cars towed from this business. This all begs the question, how is this business still going? I can only assume it's a front for something more sinister. read more

I was really disappointed. Its a rainy Sunday late afternoon when the salon was closed, and my dear friend was meeting at the Bird and Bottle in the same building as Calypso. She unaware, parked in a calypso spot, probably thinking not much of it, because they are closed on Sundays. Turns out the owner watches the parking spot via video camera from her home and had her towed! Wasn't open for business, but watching from home. Just feels like an "I got you" kind of attitude. Bummer. I don't go there and am glad I don't support that kind of business. read more

I bought a Groupon and Laura M cut my hair. It was very challenging to get an appt as she doesn't work weekends or after 5pm. It was an ok cut, but really I'm going to have to go to a different stylist in about two weeks to get it styled properly. There are a lot of salons in SR, so choose wisely. read more

I've been with Christine for 4 years since I moved to Santa Rosa. It was match made in heaven! I love that she listens to what I want (which has gone from very conservative color, two pregnancies and a ton of hair loss to now more adventures looks) the best part is that she doesn't shy away to give you her advise if it's something that may not look the best based on skin color etc and she helps you create a look that you will love and will complement your face features! I have been going to Christine for my hair for over 3 years now, starting from when she was back at 4th Street Studio. Christine is amazing, and even though it takes me over an hour drive to get there, I wouldn't go anywhere else. Now, I need to mention that I frequently and dramatically change up my hair. At a minimum, in winter I like really dark brown hair, in spring I want highlights, in summer I like to be either fully blonde or ombre, and in fall I like auburn hair. She is able to consistently get the color I want, and keep my hair looking healthy and beautiful. I run a popular plus size fashion blog and am always getting compliments on my ever-changing hair colors. Give Christine a try and fall in love with your hair again! read more

Me and two of my girlfriends went in to get an ombre a year ago at Fourth Street Studio all done by Christine who is now at Calypso studio. She was good, but a little pricey ($165) but we thought it was the normal price. I called back a month ago wanting to touch up on my ombre and asked for a price estimate. Another girl, not Christine, answered the phone and told me it would be ~$130 for a full ombre. When I told her how much we all paid last year she said that was pretty expensive for an ombre and that it is usually around 130. She sounded surprised that Christine would charge us that much for an ombre. Also, Christine was being super cheap and told me that she wouldn't bleach or color the inside of my hair because it would make the ombre look better, and I believed her, but I found out later that you're supposed to color the inside. Therefore she was pretty much trying to rip us off and save herself some money and time by using less hair product. I feel really cheated from this experience. I trusted Christine after she reassured me her expertise in ombres. Christine has poor integrity and I deserve more for what I paid especially since all 3 of us are poor college students. read more

As always with Rhondi's standards, top notch! She and her husband Greg go to great lengths to make sure this salon exceeds all expectations. Is it a bit more expensive? Calypso is a great hair salon. I have gone to the same hair dresser since 2006. I love the fact that my hair stylist is honest. If I come in with a picture of some hair color or cut that I think will look good on me she will always set me straight. She is awesome with color. She is all about what is best for your hair & will tell you if something is going to be damaging to your locks. I have never had a bad experience. The other hair stylists appear to have happy clients as well. I have surprisingly run into a lot of people I know who also go there. If you have recently relocated & are looking for a new salon in the Santa Rosa area I recommend Calypso. read more
