Went to get a haircut yesterday and left with the worst haircut I could have gotten. My hair is very simple, pin straight and thin so I always get the same haircut to just clean up the dead ends. I ended up having half of my hair in the back cut off it looked so stringy. Then in the front I get very long angles. She rushed through the whole haircut, and did not give me angles. I asked if she could add some in and she took my hair and literally just cut it straight across. It was uneven, unattractive and not even remotely what I asked for. I will never go back. And to top it all off, I am the maid of honor in a week for my sisters wedding and have to live with my hair being botched. This place disappoints me almost every time I shop here. The staff barely acknowledge you when you walk in. I watched as 4 of us waited in line with only one cashier ringing, 3 employees go behind the registers to not help out, but do who knows what. I just got home from ultra and all though I've been there a million times I had to write about my experience tonight Julia was so extremely helpful It was busier at the store but she really took her time with me to get a whole new look I am Colombian and have weird undertones and a lot of freckles I HATE!! So I love full coverage but I've been using such Cakey things She helped me find the best primer, foundation, concealer, and setting spray I have very oily skin and my make up always falls off She looked through and tested on me a bunch of options and took the time to really find the best fit for me. The store is clean and well laid out and during my most recent trip, there were several employees around to ask my beauty/product related questions to. I will agree with Noelle M. that their staff did not always know the answers to my questions but they were just as helpful as directing me to someone that did. I was so excited for an Ulta to open closer to where I live. The other ones are just too far away. I went here last night for the first time and was disappointed with their employees. I had to chase someone down to ask a question. When I finally found someone, I asked if they take manufacturer's coupons, which the employee pleasantly replied that they do. However, no one offered to assist me or tell me about their sales. I was left on my own to dig through their entire store. I was able to score some stuff for pretty cheap because there was a coupon in their flier which I matched with some manufacturer's coupons. The girl at check out also fudged my transaction and had to cancel it. I therefore had to scan my card twice, which is always bothersome. I signed up for the rewards card and I dislike having to give my personal information out loud to sign up for a rewards card. I wish there was an option to just write down your information or put it into a computer. (Sort of how they do at Bath & Body Works). I'll be back simply for the prices and selection of makeup. read more

I was recently here at the salon for an appointment with my hair stylist, Lisa-- who I can only boast about further; she is absolutely phenomenal! Walking into the Plainville store for the first time was like a breath of fresh air: the store is vivid, bright, and sparkling clean; the associates were very friendly/ accommodating; the product lines appeared endless! I was brought over to their salon by my hair stylist Lisa, who recently relocated here to Ulta. Lisa is also my mother's stylist, and I could not be happier that she referred me to her. The salon is located in the rear of the store; it is small and private enough to where I was not overwhelmed and could be rather relaxed. The space is very sleek, a chic environment, yet still lends a comfortable feel. However to me, Lisa was the true gem! Not only is Lisa an incredible hairdresser, but also a kind, relatable, genuine, & inspiring person to talk to, with a very positive vibe. When it comes to my hair, I can often be indecisive & certainly in need of suggestions, and with Lisa's fantastic recommendations, she created a pretty spot-on perfect finished product! Lisa is remarkably knowledgable, yet what makes her extraordinarily special is that she takes the time to explain each process and educate me about what she will be doing, and how. I've really come to trust her judgment as she is honest & thorough, and has definitely made magic with my hair.. I was thrilled by the end of my appointment; surprisingly she even crowned my ends with a soft curl, and with the wide array of shades and tones she created, I felt like my hair was glowing! I love Ulta for their makeup but going into this store makes me hate it. The staff treats me differently depending on if I am wearing makeup or not and that is something that no one appreciates. That was possibly the worst customer service I've ever had! Let me start by acknowledging that I am a little older than most of the other patrons in the store. (I'm 50.). But I was literally treated as if I were invisible. Make-up people wandered around, greeting every person and asking if they needed help - every person but me! I was looking for a Bare Minerals product, but the display was an absolute mess, and missing about 50% of the products! I got not one offer of assistance. I did buy some Nioxin hair products, and when I got to the register, I was rung out by a girl who was much too busy talking to a co-worker to have any kind of interaction with me - a lowly paying customer! I am normally a pretty good customer of Ulta, but now I'll make the drive to the mall to hit up Sephora or the Bare Minerals store. Or I'll shop online. Super dehumanizing experience. This is one of my favorite go to spots for hair and make-up supplies as well as fragrances, especially since they always seem to have a great gift to occupy your fragrance purchase. This trip however was for my scheduled hair cut that i have ever two months. For $36 you get a shampoo and conditioner wash, cut, and blow dry/ style. This time i didn't cut much off just got a trim and did a layered front. Two weeks later and I am still loving it. Besides an upscale hair salon I would not go anywhere else to have my hair done. The Plainville store is never well stocked with Ulta products especially if they have a free Ulta gift with purchase of Ulta products. The gift with purchase started today. I got to the store when it opened and the items I wanted were out. And as I was trying to look for cosmetics, the shelf are was blocked by 2 associates who had to had to have noticed I was trying to look- I was straining over my neck and moving around them- yet they didn't move. Watch the buy 2 get 2 offers. While I was there, I bought 4 items and got charged for 3 full price plus the half price on one! So instead of being charged $12, I got charged $21. I should've asked for the manager instead of the cashier. The cashier was very argumentative so I just asked for a refund. She continued to argue. I double checked my math and then I re-did math when I got home. I then called and talked to the manager who wasn't very helpful. She said the discount price would be in parentheses and it wasn't. I used a $3.50 store coupon for a Neutrogena item, so I think the transaction on the register got messed up. The $3.50 discount was the only one reflected in the parentheses. So bottom line: ask for separate transactions, bring a calculator, ask for the manager. If the manger is reading this: the prestige line sales associates are far better at customer service. They should teach the other staff what good service is. read more

I was in desperate need of some serious hair TLC and apparently, every salon I called around the area was fully booked. Who knew that Black Friday weekend craziness would extend to more than just retail?? I was ready to give up and accept that I wouldn't be able to get a haircut and treatment on a Saturday afternoon...until I remembered that the makeup store that I had just visited 1 day prior had a salon in store! So I drive to Ulta in Plainville, book the earliest available appointment which was a 1 hour wait and went shopping in DSW & Marshalls nearby until the time came. My hair stylist's name was Skylar and I could tell from the get-go that she was experienced (based on her own hair style--which is something I always analyze before getting letting anyone touch my hair). I had signed up for the 'Signature Style & Cut" which includes a consultation, shampoo, deep-conditioning treatment, cut and blow-dry ($47 --but with 1st time clients, you get 20% off your first service, so I paid less). I explained to Skylar that my hair had just been through 3 bleaches in 1 month (ombre lightening) and that the ends were so dry that I couldn't even style it if I wanted to. In fact, I expected to be told that I would have to cut off the majority of the colored area! Well, after Skylar took a look at my hair, she gave me the step-by-step of how we would get it back to healthy and still be able to keep the majority of the length! She was extremely knowledgable of products and processes to use in my daily routines--which she explained throughout the appointment which was great. After the cut, she blew out my hair and I couldn't have been more impressed and excited for the results! My hair literally had gone from straw and split-end-galore to silky smooth and gorgeous!! To summate, I would HIGHLY recommend Skylar to anyone who appreciates an amazing hair stylist who knows how to tackle even the worst of problems (ME!) effortlessly and efficiently. I've given this particular store location several chances and I always leave disappointed. Most of the staff is simply rude and if the coupons they push every week don't apply to a particular product --which happens a LOT even though some of those products aren't listed in their coupon rules -- they are NOT very nice about it. In another instance, I purchased an item with (not a random coupon but) my "earned points" of $10 and realized it was not what I wanted so the next day I exchanged the product for another one, expecting to still have my earned points applied (since after all I was "exchanging" the product, not returning it for credit). The person in charge was VERY rude about it after I told them that it didn't make sense since they were still making money off a purchase and I earned those points as a loyal Ulta customer and I was simply "exchanging an item for another one." The store manager/or whoever was in charge that day snottily replied: that would be like double dipping. And you can't do that! (NO it would not be like double dipping, I earned those $10 rewards points and they were flushed down the toilet bcs I decided to exchange my desired purchase the next day). This policy really SUCKS and they should consider changing it. Sephora or ANY OTHER store would GLADLY apply my earned points to the exchange. Not only did they deny my earned points, they were rude about it. When they push free trial sizes, they're always gone by the time I get there, they are understaffed on the floor (for questions) and I have never had a pleasurable encounter with anyone behind the counter. If they don't have something I'm looking for, they say: nope, we don't carry that, period. A more professional answer would be: oh, I'm sorry we don't have what you're looking for, but maybe I can recommend something similar? The store is terrible. I'll go back to driving to West Hartford or Avon to Sephora, where they are 10x above the quality of service of PLAINVILLE'S Ulta Store. read more

First of all let me just say that I love Ulta and I'm super duper happy to find out that we even had one in Plainville & Manchester Connecticut. However, my reason for going there most of the time is to get my hair touched up etcetera because I screwed it up with box color. In this particular location (Plainville) salon manager Amy is absolutely amazing and has gotten my hair color to a point that I get compliments constantly....and I just adore the shade of red . She she even smilingly puts up with my consistent lateness LOL. I truly did a number on my hair by trying to dye it myself for months and if anybody knows anything about red hair dye that can become quite a nightmare and it takes a lot of know-how to fix said nightmare without your hair's Health becoming a concern. Amy is without a doubt an an expert in her field. And don't get me wrong, every employee in Ulta go above and beyond to help you with whatever you need. Sometimes you have to pay for quality. Ulta is a great place to buy cosmetics but don't go to the salon. Staff is rude, unorganized and highly incompetent. I scheduled a cut and color for three people and the hairstylist completely mismanaged our times. First the stylist gave me the wrong appointment times and when I arrived they assumed I missed my appointments. Once they figured out the scheduling mistake they agreed to take us next. We waited an hour for our turn, after being promised it would only be a couple more minutes. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME! All three of us ended up leaving.
