    Balayage hair
    Samantha T.

*sorry for the long review but if you're considering getting your hair done here, please use caution* I came in to Ultas salon for balayage (I have dark brown hair). Before anything I consulted with the stylist and she was confident we could get the color I wanted and get close to the picture I showed her. It's been awhile since I did any color treatment to my hair and she didn't seem concerned it would affect anything. She even let me pick a blonde color swatch for my look. The whole process took 2 1/2 hours. I could tell something was wrong when she asked how long has it been since I last colored my hair, again, and proceeded to then said "it's not quite as blonde as we were going for but it still looks very cute." I will admit I was not wearing my glasses for the entire process and didn't see my hair until the very end when she styled it. She kept hyping it up about how it looked so good but it was caramel instead of blonde. She said that she can get it blonder if I want but I'd have to come back in 3 weeks and it would cost $95. Again, I had not even seen my hair yet and I was quite nervous to even look. When I was able to look, my stomach just dropped. It was not the slightest bit close to what I asked for. The worst part being I even showed her a picture and we had talked about it before we even started. There was no blending, and it was all one color-orange. When I moved my hair around it was patchy and uneven, no blend of color or anything. She made it seem like the reason my hair didn't take is because of something I did or the color I did before, even though I had told her this before we even started and it wasn't an issue, it apparently was now. The whole thing ended up costing $150. When I had made the appointment I was told it would be $65-$115. She said that she gave me a 'discount' and they also added on a deep conditioning treatment which was another $20. Non of it even adds up to me. I was completely unaware of the extra $20. And quite honestly I don't feel like I should have even had to pay for this. And now if I go back for her to 'fix it' and make it blonder, I'll have to pay $95 more dollars, which will likely be more since they have surprise charges they don't even tell you about. My hair is dry and feels like straw now. I was mortified to leave my house or even go to my job, now imagine I have to wait 3 more weeks before she can fix it. I ended up going to Walmart and buying 2 boxes of brown hair dye and deep conditioning treatment (another $30 to fix this) before I had to work the next day. In the end I have spend close to $200 on my hair and received nothing out of it besides ruined hair. This whole experience has been humiliating and disappointing. You are a BEAUTY & HAIR store/salon. I expected better. For good measure. Here are pics. First picture is what I asked for, the same picture she was confident she could achieve with my hair. 2nd pic is what I received. Please use caution if ever getting hair done here. I would never wish this experience on anyone.

I had an appointment but did not request a specific tech for my scheduled services. My pedicure and manicure were performed very well, and her attention to details such as massaging sore points and ensuring my nail health was appreciated and commensurate with clearly posted costs for services. For her professionalism and expertise, I would rate the level and quality of services at this location at 5 stars. However, the crude topic of conversation that I overheard between two male techs while I was trying to relax and actually enjoy the services I would be paying for made my experience miserable. I do not care about what people do in their personal lives, it's not my business. But for crying out loud, I don't want to hear about plans for gender reassignment surgery nor do I want to be forced to feign empathy for behavior that reeks of attention seeking and false joviality. Maybe their behavior was a joke. Maybe it wasn't. Kind of hard to not hear and feel targeted when the younger, much larger tech was throwing me the mal ojo. Do I look too midwestern? Not midwestern enough? Oh right, it doesn't matter! It's one thing to engage in entertaining absurdities (clowning around) in front of customers and it's absolutely another thing to create a toxic and intimidating environment to where I didn't feel comfortable at all. From the facial expressions of other customers and the ensuing tense silence after their bizarre performance, I feel confident of my observations and conclusions contained herein. I will not be returning to this establishment. I don't post often via Yelp. But I am really getting sick of paying for services where the employees behave like monsters or aliens or maleducados...maybe someone will create a concierge nail service that hires decently trained techs. It's good to have hope.
