She also stopped mid cut to allow me to get my eyebrows done while the eyebrow lady had an opening to do so. She was also amazing but I do not recall her name. I went to Ulta to get my hair dyed and I asked for an orange ginger color. Instead, I got a dark reddish brown, and the dye wasn't covering all of my previous color and there are yellow spots throughout my hair. I asked if I could come back in for her to fix the mistakes that were done and she said that it has to be within a week and a half in order to comp the service. Unfortunately, I only had one day off and it was the same as the girl who did my hair. My engine blew up and I do not have a car and I also have work and college classes that interfere with her schedule. Like many people, I was excited to book an appointment here because I've had great experiences with Ulta Beauty salon services in the past. Unfortunately, this location was a very different story. I booked a wash and blow dry appointment for 6:45 and arrived early at 6:30. The entire reason for this appointment was simple: I have work tomorrow and needed my hair blow dried. I clearly stated this and received a nod of agreement. My hair was washed and conditioned, and I thought, great, we're off to a good start. That optimism lasted exactly five minutes. What followed was thirty minutes of detangling... and while I understand detangling is part of the process, this was slow, uncomfortable, and completely overtook the appointment. I stayed quiet at first, assuming we'd move on shortly. Another 30 minutes passed. At this point, I gently said that my hair didn't need to be perfectly detangled, my main priority was the blow dry. It was now 7:18 PM when I was informed about an optional deep conditioning treatment that supposedly makes detangling easier. I'm still not sure why this wasn't mentioned before we spent an entire half hour detangling. Then I was told that if I chose that option, my hair could not be blow dried. Pause. Because my appointment was for a wash and blow dry. I declined and reiterated that I wanted my hair blow dried. I was told "okay." Perfect. Except then I was informed: after all this time.... that I would be charged a detangling fee. When I asked why this hadn't been explained beforehand (especially since budgets are a thing), I was told the fee would be $85. Please imagine my face. At this point, a manager became involved, and unfortunately the outcome stayed the same. By 7:30 PM, I was told that I would not be receiving the blow dry I booked. I work Monday through Friday and simply wanted to leave with dry hair. Instead, I left wet, frustrated, and in a damp shirt. I was offered a return visit the next day for them to finally blow dry my hair, but by then the damage was done. Playing with someone's hair in a world where appearances matter this much is wild, and it's not something anyone should have to experience. This location was incredibly disappointing. I visited the Ulta in South Plainfield today and had a disappointing experience with this employee. I love Ulta, and usually have a great experience. The employees there are very knowledgeable and helpful. However, during my visit recently, i felt unwelcome and uncomfortable. I transparently said I don't know anything about makeup and need help looking for concealer for my dark spots. After looking me up and down, this employee reluctantly helped me. I didn't get her name, but at the risk of sounding racist she was African American, with bleach blonde hair in her braids. She was rude and condescending when I asked questions. But she prided herself on finding the right color tone. I didn't even want to buy the product and couldn't wait to leave. I value good customer service, and I hope management will ensure staff treat customers with respect and kindness moving forward. Worst hair salon I've ever been to. Made an appointment for opening weekend for a haircut and color. The highest end hair stylist was supposedly out all week until next Friday which is really frustrating for opening weekend where you should build clientele. Had my hair cut and colored by Nicole S. My hair was in really bad shape beforehand. Nicole was okay. Polite but not very chatty or warm. She ruined my hair even more. I didn't think it could get worse but it did. It looked okay when I left the salon but when I washed it and dried it naturally (using color safe shampoo), my hair was awful. It was blotchy and uneven. Parts were bleached blonde parts were ginger. Color faded after one wash. The cut was super choppy and uneven. I've cut my hair better myself. I called the salon and the only person that could fix my hair the high end stylist who was out all week until that following Friday. Andrea. Andrea was nice and definitely knew what she was talking about. She fixed my hair much better but also only used semi permanent dye. I asked her why she didn't want to use permanent and she thought I wouldn't need it. She fixed the cut as best as she could. It's much better but not perfect. It's been just over a week since Andrea fixed my hair and I've only washed it once to be safe. The color is already fading and you can see the messed up parts underneath coming out a bit. I'm not going to bother calling or contacting them back because it's clear it's a waste of my time and money that Ulta uses really cheap quality hair dyes. I've had my hair done poorly before but nothing this bad. The store itself was also unpleasant. They were sold out of their promo items during their grand opening weekend. The store manager was clearly stressed and very rude. I'll be back to Ulta for convenience but never the salon. read more

It was slow the day I went so they were understaffed so other customers kept going up to her for questions since there were few floor attendants. She was so kind to each one while still working with my hair and tried her best to point other customers in the right direction and suggest products that would work for them, sometimes even taking a quick moment to show them where to find something. The end result of my hair is so pretty and sleek, and exactly the cut I wanted and she was able to help me out with aftercare suggestions without pushing any products on you! When I met Abby, I instantly felt relieved. She tried out various products with me the best she could. Never once did I feel pressure or judgement. I went to the salon here in hooped for a perfectly straight blow out but when I sat down, she wasn't even putting my hair into sections like your supposed to. Instead she was waving the blow dryer back and forth and the end result was me leaving unsatisfied 100% with frizzy hair.
