I love Ulta Beauty. It's like a Sephora (so higher end makeup), but with some different brands (and some brands in common), and they also sell some drugstore brands, as well as their own ULTA brand. I like that they have a clearance section, and their gifts with purchases are much better than Sephora's where you have to spend so much money to get one tiny sample sized item. ULTA actually gives you items similar to gift with purchases at department stores (like a set of products). We don't have ULTA in Canada, so every time I'm in the USA in a city with an ULTA, I like to go in and poke around. I have found that all locations are very similar and I can't say that there's anything about this location that sets it apart. This location is in the Towne Center at Watertown shopping complex. I am not a make-up/cosmetics type of individual. Give me some shiny poppin lipgloss and I am good to go. Every now and then when I go out, I wear a lil color on my lips but it isn't often. It's also always a nude or soft pink. I also like to put on a lil eyelash and foundation to make my skin look a lil more silky smooth. So I went in for my Clinique foundation as it's all I use. It isn't harsh on my face and does not leave my face dry and broken out after removal. The staff was attentive as I was greeted multiple times and asked if I needed help. I was directed right to where the foundation could be found. Staff even offered to color match if I needed but already knew my color so I was good. But it's great that it was offered. Very disappointed after my visit today. I had brought my children with me, my son lost his tooth and of course was excited seeing himself in the mirror. One of the employees made a very rude comment and proceeded to follow us through the store and stare us down, making the shopping experience very uncomfortable. I won't be returning to this location. The store itself is perfectly fine, good product selection, easy to find what you want. Employees can be a bit much with asking if you need help, but I know that's what they're supposed to do so no biggie. The salon on the other hand...I've had one of the worst haircuts of my life here. I have naturally curly hair and asked for it to be cut shoulder length, layered, and mentioned multiple times that it shrinks a lot when it dries. What I got was minimal layers, and barely chin length when totally dry and straightened. Way too short for my face shape and definitely not what I asked for. I never straighten my hair but the girl told me she "has to blow dry it straight and see what it looks like before she knows she's done." In reality I think she realized she messed up and was trying to make it look longer than it was. She had me turned away from the mirror so by the time I realized what was happening it was too late. The worst part was I booked a curl specialist appointment, who evidently knew nothing about cutting curly hair. I have white girl curls, so I'd hate to see what they do to someone with actual texture. Go somewhere local. You'll pay less and have a better experience. A New Attitude on Coffeen Street is usually a good bet. read more

I was so excited to experience Ulta after hearing so much about this beauty store (there's no Ulta where I live in Ontario). I was impressed with the massive selection! So much makeup, but also hair care, nail care, hair tools, etc. I was happy to grab a few products that I couldn't get in Canada anymore, and also snoop around some brands I've never seen/played with before. I had a great time shopping around, but I have to deduct most of the stars based on the poor experience at the checkout. The girl at the checkout was very pushy about signing me up for their account/emails or whatever. I told her I'm not here enough to bother with getting spammed with tons of emails every day, so I didn't want to sign up. She had the snottiest attitude about the whole thing, and it was a really disappointing way to end my first Ulta shopping experience. What was also annoying was when she was scanning my items, I noticed there was a display of setting sprays beside the register. I looked at it and asked her if this brand was fragrance free as I have sensitive skin. She looked at me as if I was totally dumb, and said, "Ya of course it is". I picked up the bottle and read the ingredients list...and I saw it said it contained FRAGRANCE/PARFUM. I told her, "Um actually this does have fragrance in it...see?". I showed her the bottle and she gave me the biggest eyeroll...she obviously didn't like that she was wrong. Wow, apparently it's too much to ask for sales associates to be knowledgeable and polite. Seeing as this is the only high end beauty store in the area it's only natural that I spend a decent amount of my free time (and money) here. I really love their sales and how helpful the girls are. I'm also a fan of their microzone mini facials. The aesthetician is very sweet and really makes sure to give you the most bang for your buck. After she spent a few extra minutes on my skin she gave me very generous samples of the products she used for me to try at home! :) The only reason I lost a star is because I went there for a hair glaze on another day and had to wait for the hairdresser for 45 minutes past my appointment. Then after the hair glazing (which took NO EFFECT on my hair except damaging it and not lightening it at all) I was charged an additional 15 because I have SO much hair. Understandable, I'm not mad I know my hair is a handful. But I just felt that considering how long I waited that could have at least been waived. Oh well, still love this place! Will definitely be returning for more salon services and of course to shop! read more

I got my bangs cut here today and they butchered it. I told her blunt and straight and she made it whispy, crooked, and thin. I told her I wanted it different trying to guide her and she kept making excuses as to why she wouldn't change it. I eventually stopped arguing and said it was fine. I left and went to Regis at the mall. They fixed it exactly how I wanted it from the beginning. So the girl at ulta was lying or not experienced enough to do my hair the way I wanted it. First time at Ulta for dermatology purposes. I always had this preconception that Ulta only sells products and had no knowledge about services such as skin treatment. Anyways I had a really good first impression. When I walked in, my girlfriend and I were greeted multiple times and asked if we needed any help. Then we were guided to the dermatology department so I can get my nose pimple professionally popped. The lady in charge of the section was really nice and seemed like she knew her stuff. As the service was taking place, she would update me on what she's doing now and what the equipment used is for, that way I didn't feel completely out of the loop while someone was squeezing pimples on my face. Definitely appreciated her professionalism. Followed by all the popping and squeezing, the lady recommended me some great products that actually worked! The clarifying shampoo by biolage I bought recently was full of sulfates and rubbing alcohol, used in low grade knock off versions of high end products. It ripped expensive color out of my hair and I warn you to read the labels and research before you buy. Thought I was safe I was wrong. The one star is generous and only present because I'm forced to pick a rating. * i want to add despite the product quality at this store, the customer service is really excellent, thank you for your friendly smiles and eager to help, attitudes. The store itself is great; better product selection than Sephora, and the floor girls seem decently knowledgeable. But I'm giving 2 stars because I had a super frustrating hair experience there recently. I am naturally a darker brunette with a lot of natural red highlights. I went in to get my hair lightened just 2 shades. I color my hair a lot and I figured anyone can handle taking it down 2 shades. Instead, I spent 4.5 hours in the salon on a Sunday, over half of that time with my head in the sink and my neck aching (i literally had a light bruise on the back of my neck the next day). After all that, the top third of my hair was orange; middle third was brown; bottom third was dark brown. Not to mention I have never felt my hair so dry and over-processed. The stylist knew she'd messed up and rebooked me for the following weekend, then said she would do more research to see what went wrong. Yikes! To make it worse, I told her over and over during the consult I had a lot of natural red in my hair and she confirmed it multiple times. I deliberately picked an ash tone to cover the red (please note she never recommended an ash tone, so I'm seriously questioning the knowledge). I usually go to Rochester to get my hair done and this is the reason why. And yes I have gone blonde before. I don't want to put the stylist's name on here because she was very sweet but please think twice before you go here for color or a perm or you might end up a guinea pig in an uncomfortable chair! After spending $135 plus tipping her $30, I ended up buying a home color kit and fixing the mess myself. read more

I went there the other day to get a hair cut and my eyebrows waxed. I loved how they did my eye brows! Never have been happier about the results of them. When I got my hair done i noticed that my hair was a little uneven on the sides but I had so much on my mind didnt think anything of it. Then when I got home I noticed that my hair was VERY uneven. Ulta has the most amazing salon i have ever been in!!!! The girls there are all so knowledgeable you can tell they are highly trained professionals! I have tried every salon in watertown and ulta is by far the best. I get my facials hair color and nails done there! They never fail me! I first started going to ulta about a year ago when i had a very very messed up color. I asked for brown with red low lights and the girl (at a diff. Salon) turned my hair pink!!!! I came to ulta and they fixed the color and cut!!!! I have never been more satisfied with they way my hair turned out. I see denise she is the manager.
