Monday night I found myself riddled with pain. I had some tooth sensitivity on my left side for no kidding about a year. It was on and off, Mostly to cold food and liquid and it passed pretty quickly. My regular dentist at the time had taken an xray and saw no issue with my teeth. We discussed that sometimes people have sensitivity now and again. So since it was manageable and there was no obvious answer to the cause I just dealt with the brief occurrences. Monday night was completely different. The pain was worse then child birth and on a scale of 1-10 I would say a solid 13. It was the middle of the night so I applied so much orajel I numbed the entire side of my face. I literally had to continually reapply like every 30 mins. Tuesday I headed to Ultimate Dental in Dumont. Dr. Lagana has always been thorough, patient, and kind. Matter of fact his entirw staff from the moment you walk thru the door are welcoming, professional and you get a your family doctor kind of feel which is hard to come by a medical practices these days. Even seeing Dr. Lagana or his staff around town your greeted with a sincere "how are you^. When I arrived as always the staff and Dr. Lagana addressed all my concerns and after pinpointing what was most likely the cause of this pain refered me out to a well known oral surgery practice with four local locations. I went to the westwood location. I won't say more than that in refernce to the pratice but since it wasn't a concrete on which tooth was causing the pain I was seen by a doctor that may be very good on other occasions but with my particular case was very dissmisve. I was sent home to continue pain meds and see what happens and follow up. Dr. Lagana had called in and antibiotic for me and when I asked the oral surgeon if I should begin that I was told it couldn't hurt. There was a slight sinus infection which Dr. Lagana had seen and the oral surgeon agreed so I decided to begin the antibiotics. I went home and popped more ibuprofen then one stomach should handle. I was desperate. This oral surgeon had left me no plan. Now since years ago my original dentist couldn't pinpoint the issue and Dr. Lagana believed he saw which tooth but the oral surgeon felt unsure I started to think maybe it isn't the tooth itself but nerve issue. That idea had been floated around since the issue began all that time ago. I searched and guess what there is a type of dentist specifically that works with the nerves. Now Dr. Lagana had sent me to the oral surgeon for clarification but why had the oral surgeon sent me on my way without even a mention of this nerve specialist. This is when I called Dr. Lagana back and he directed me to Dr. Goldfein in Englewood. He is an endodontic. Who even knew. He tests each nerve when the tooth isn't giving an obvious answer and figures out exactly what tooth to pull. Dr. Goldfein. Was definitely a find and although I hope to never need his particular expertise again he too was kind, patient and looking to get to the root of then problem. Pun intended. He set his sights on the same tooth as Dr. Lagana. Noting things Dr. Lagana had noticed had noticed as well. He really listened to me and didn't dismiss me as if I was a hypochondriac with some kind of phantom pain as the oral surgeon had done. Now unfortunately my new endodontist did many things including root canal but with my very limited budget and since it was a back tooth I opted to just pull. So here I was Doctor number four in about that many days. Dr. Goldfein's staff getting me all set up and on my way to a new oral surgeon as I expressed not wanting to go to the original one who basically told me if I really had a "hot tooth" I would be screaming down the hall. Now I arrived at Riverside oral surgery the Westwood office. This staff was also so kind and informative. Dr. Goldfein had a staff member come in to discuss possible insurance options and now at Riverside they too were patient and informative about my options. Just like Dr. Lagana office. The other oral surgeon never even mentioned any financial options as he was sending me off anyway. Riveraide oral surgery staff in Westwood also felt so homey and invested. The oral surgeon there expressed if Dr. Goldfein suspected a particular tooth that would be the tooth and after his exam he agreed with Dr. Lagana and Dr. Goldfein. I have no idea what the other oral surgeon was doing other than taking my payment. Doctor Song Hee Cho of Riverside Oral Surgery not only put me at ease the whole time and was so understanding as at this point my whole mouth hurt and so did my wallet. He explained why I was having pain top and bottom while oral surgeon number one told me it made no sense to have two teeth one on top and one on bottom hurt . All and all it was an ordeal were it may not have had to been but three out of four isn't to bad. I am very thankful for the medical professionals that helped, listend, guided me thru these. I have gone through a dozen dentists over the course of 20 years but once I found Dr. Lagana I never looked back. I have followed him from North Bergen to Dumont. The staff is great and Dr. Lagana's work has been excellent to date. He has a great bedside manner as well. His techs and medical assistants are top notch too. I came here with a cracked tooth that had me scared of infection, this office gave me their first available appointment the same day and made it so they could work around my work schedule which was so appreciated. I ended up needing a crown, Dr Lagana is an amazing dentist. He made sure I was comfortable, wanted to fix my tooth for my in the quickest and easiest manner. I was nervous about the novacane, I actually ended up not even knowing he was injecting me because he was that gentle. He put a temporary crown in for me while we wait for the impressions for the permanent one. I was so pleased with this office, the dentist, and his staff. All great, caring people.
