My husband and I recently moved from NY to NJ and was looking for a new dentist around the area. We found Town Dentistry, which was close by our home and had great reviews. I was nervous and skeptical at first because the office location appeared a bit hidden, but it was still easy to drive to. Upon entering, the office was extremely organized, clean and comfortable. Kim greeted and welcomed us warmly and knew exactly who we were. Kim was organized and prepared with our paperwork to make signing in a breeze. Kim had explained that due to the pandemic, their appointments were spaced out to ensure patients had enough time with Dr. Chin, the office was not crowded and movement of services were seamless. I sat there with my child for my husband and I's appointment time and it was exactly as Kim had explained. Being a new mother, I was worried about my baby coming into too close of a contact with others (especially being in flu season too), I was worried about the cleanliness of the office space. But I was very comfortable and at ease the entire time I was waiting. I saw the next patient walk in when we were done with our appointment.
To be honest, coming from NYC, I was expecting the rushed dentist appointments and the long wait times. I was seeing a dentist in NYC for many years and I had thought that dentist wasn't too bad or so to say "got the job done". But after coming to Town Dentistry, I for sure, now know the dental service I had before was not that good.
When I had my routine cleanings done before, I sat in the chair for about 10-15 minutes and you can feel the rush the dentist was in.
When I had my filings done before, I was never given any numbing medication, I had to come back multiple times because only one or two teeth were done at a time and I had dry, cracked lips after each time.
I thought that was how a dental appointment was supposed to be because I was never given the options or was properly informed or had experienced better service in the times I went to know the difference. I just thought, well the dentist says I am okay in the 15 minutes I was there, so everything I am doing is good enough.
Dr. Chin has made me change the way I think and care for my dental health. Dr. Chin was welcoming, calm, warm and professional. She made me feel comfortable, which is important since dental checkups can bring different levels of pain and anxiety. She never made me feel judged for the way I cared for my teeth. She took her time to really answer my questions without medical jargon (I had worried about a tooth of mine and brought it up to my previous dentist who simply told me "those are fine", I had asked Dr. Chin expecting the same answer, but her answer went deeper into details and elaboration of what could have caused it, how common it is and when I should worry about it). That says a lot about a person in the way they care about you as a patient and in the way they enjoy their profession.
She was the first dentist who explained to me how to floss my teeth, it didn't matter if I had knew it already or not, she took the time to explain it and really not only said it but showed me. She even flossed my teeth for my cleaning, which I never had done before (I had always had a cleaning, but just a rinse then leave with a brushed feel, no flossing - or was always just asked oh do you floss everyday and told to keep flossing, but never asked if i knew or not, or to understand how i did it to do it better).
Dr. Chin had told me to come back to redo my fillings and prior to my visit had emailed me what to expect to have done at the visit with a picture of my teeth color coded, costs and details broken down. I had never had that explained to me before. It was always a verbal explanation and you pay when you are done (you don't even know which tooth or where it was worked on). - that has definitely impressed me in how Dr. Chin is so transparent in her services. There are no hidden information or fees.
During my fillings, Dr. Chin had taken the time to make sure it was pain free. She took such detail in my teeth that when I came back I was shocked to see how great they look. No more gray/ silver fillings! and no dry cracked lips during the whole procedure. She had also given me glasses to wear during the procedure- I was used to the spraying of water on my face, the shining lamp light blaring down at me but those fine details of consideration has made me truly trust her more as a dentist.
There are plenty of dentists around, but finding one that cares enough to listen, to pay attention to the details, to consider you as a person, to be able to communicate in a way you understand and is transparent in their services and enjoys their work are rare. Dr. Chin's Dentistry is rare.
