Throughout my time working with Laura she continually asked for a review, so here we go. Some background: My fiancé(now husband) and I planned a surprise wedding in a 6 week time span. Ultimate fashions was the first and only shop I had been to at the time of ordering my dress. I had a specific dress in mind and was looking for it to be ordered within time frame, this was my main concern when looking for a shop, so I do take some responsibility for the events that occurred given that I should have looked around and more thoroughly researched. Also, I am an extremely non confrontational person, I will go to extremes to avoid arguments and therefore I overlooked a couple of red flags as they arose to keep the peace. Bottom line: I would NEVER recommend anyone shop from ultimate fashions. Laura is only out for your money (which many industry professionals have also told me once I started speaking to people after the fact), she only cares about how much money you could give her and where she can cut her own costs. I was lied to and they stole from me by not actually completing the agreed upon alterations and yet taking my money anyway. Also for the record, I paid all costs up front mainly in cash amounting to about $2,100 for this trash service. I am thankful for my dress being delivered in a timely fashion, but honestly for the service I received I should've just ordered online and saved myself the trouble. The good: My dress was ordered and received within a week, Laura was very eager to help (and to tell everyone about how helpful she was), and the staff, specifically Carol, was very sweet. I had several issues during the process of recovering my dress, one being that Laura was very incessant on me ordering my accessories through her. This was exemplified when Laura ordered two sets of jewelry without my asking and insisted that I needed them. I refused considering I SPECIFICALLY told her that I didn't want any fancy jewelry. My problems mainly arose during the alterations process. I went in and tried on the dress where the seamstress, Josephine, determined that I needed the waist taken in, a bustle, and for the shoulder accents to be tacked down so they wouldn't fall off. I also requested that the straps be shortened a bit. About two weeks go by, I come in to try on my dress again, upon arrival I see that the bustle looks extremely off. It was one button in very thin fabric, there were large unflattering folds, and to top it all off it dragged all over the floor with completely defeats the purpose of having a bustle in the first place (see pictures below). I mentioned to the seamstress that it didn't look right and was too long and she said "no no that's what it's supposed to look like". Even though I was unhappy with the dress I took it home to avoid any confrontation. I tried to convince myself it was fine and that they knew what they were talking about. Later that weekend I tried the dress on again. The bustle was still bothering me a lot and on top of that I could now see that my breasts were completely exposed due to the dress's fabric being sheer and the cups being way off to the side. This obviously could not fly at my wedding so I proceeded to text Laura and ask if I could come in and speak to Josephine (see photos below). Laura was very unaccommodating and practically unresponsive until I asked for a refund. Long, long story short; I received my refund and ended up bringing my dress to an actual bridal shop to be fixed. I paid less than half of what Laura charged me for DOUBLE the work as the bustle had to be given 5 buttons to actually be held up. I took my 13 year old daughter and a small group of her friends shopping. We were passing the store and the girls decided to go in to admire the beautiful gown on the mannequin. One of the girls accidentally knocks over a mannequin so I help her pick it up. LAURA, with her heavy obnoxious unnecessarily loud accent rushes over to us before we can even fully enter the store, grabs the mannequin and rudely says, "Okay just move I got it!". I apologize & am already ready to leave because I could sense her attitude upon arrival. She then looks at us, puts her arms up and says "Okay, what is it you want?" very rudely, not allowing us to actually enter the store. I tell her we are just looking at the dresses. She rudely interrupts me repeatedly saying "No, you can't just LOOK. You have to actually BUY". Instantly I feel totally judged & racially profiled. I say to her, "Ummm ok first off, how are we supposed to buy if we can't LOOK at the inventory? That defeats the purpose". She interrupts me again loudly & repeats that we cannot look, we need to "actually buy something", as though. she KNEW what we were really there for to begin with. I felt myself wanted to curse her ass out, so I said "Okay come on girls, since we can't LOOK, let's go LOOK elsewhere cause I'm not interested in being in this store anymore". I turn around to walk out and she suddenly changed her tune- "Oh Noooooooo sweetie! OF COURSE you can look! What I mean is that you will need to hurry and buy NOW because covid is delaying shipments on prom dresses!" I correct her instantly because I am not one to keep my mouth shut when it comes to these rude, racist Karen's on this Island or anywhere for that matter. I tell her "well you should have started with that sentence because you keep saying we can't just look as if we aren't allowed to be here. You need to watch how you say things". The woman changes her whole tune, tries to act super friendly towards me walking us around the store and by this point I am not interested at all. Then she tells the mother of one of my daughter's friends that she needs to get her daughter a bigger bra because she is way too busty and heavy set and will have a hard time finding a dress that'll fit her for prom. I turn around like OKAY, I'm OUT, because if I didn't leave, that woman was going to get cursed out from here to hell! Lastly, my daughter's other friend sees a crown and says "Oh I want a crown for prom next year!" and the witch shouts in her loud, obnoxious, annoying ass voice, "No you can't wear a crown! You just can't. You don't wear a CROWN to prom", in a very condescending tone. Period point blank, I believe they are racist there, racially profile, critical and give opinions on things no one ask for. Extremely unprofessional, loud & I see now why that store is always so empty. She's lucky I had so many kids with me because otherwise, she was about to hear my whole mouth & think she sensed that which is why she tried to act all nice and buddy-buddy with me. Laura, Carol, Gab, and last but not least, the incredible seamstress Josephine, went over and above to make prom dress shopping exciting and fun. There were so many beautiful dresses to pick from and large roomy changing rooms. I highly recommend shopping at Ultimate Fashions before looking anywhere else. My only suggestion is make sure you get Josephine to do your alterations not the other seamstress that works there. Josephine is not only an amazing seamstress, she is pleasant and professional. I've been looking for a very specific dress from Jovanni for my bday party in October, walked by and saw that they had it on display so I walked in and asked if they had it in black ...... the lady ( pretty eyes heavy set ) was right away rude. She then quoted me a price higher then all of the other places that have this dress..... the dress is about 378 she said it was 498 .... I said ok , do you have it in black ..... they checked the computer. said they could order it but wasn't sure if it would get here in time ..... which at that point why would I even try it on. I have to tell you something, I was very skeptical when I walking into the store, in S.I., however this lady blow me away. She delivered her promise and found the dress that I was looking, even though the other fashion stores couldn't get that dress. Amazing!!! And the dress was delivered to her store within 3 day as she said!!! WOW Mrs. Laura Karmin, you are hard worker, and truly businesswoman! She really know what she is talking about! I'm not surprised the reviews are terrible. The owner of this shop was even brazen enough to find one of the negative reviews "funny," which shows you just how terrible their customer service is. What a shabby store with no selection on bridal gowns at all! I was lied to by the owner if she had a particular collection in stock (I had found the store through the homepage of that designer) When I came in to look at 3-4 dresses of that collection she had ZERO. I have to say that this place is a huge disappointment. From the minute I walked in, I felt harassed and followed by the workers there. The sales lady and owner kept on following me and had a really bad tone and attitude. The store is arranged in a very uninspiring way and it doesn't show the beauty of the products. After a long time, I managed to find two dresses and wanted to try them on. After I decided to buy them, I realized that my husband wants to treat me for them and I asked the sales person to keep them for me as my husband is on his way to pay. I gave her my name and number to ensure that she keeps them. I walked out to grab a coffee until he's back and as soon as he came (30 minutes) after I made the agreement with the owner to keep the dresses aside for me, I walk in and they were both very rude to me and stated that they sold one of the dresses. I was very disappointed and terribly disturbed. I was not given a curtesy call to let me know that someone showed an interest in the dress they were holding for me. I was not informed that they will sell the dress upon my leaving of the store. The behavior was very greedy especially that I searched in the store and tried the dresses on and wasted my time. The ladies there do not know how to keep a customer and they do not value promises given to their customers. I do not recommend this place at all. What a waste of time. read more

It is nice to have a dress shop in the mall that sells formal and wedding attire, however I will not be back to this place. The lady, older with glasses and very short light brown hair was incredibly condersending, rude, pushy, my list could go on for days. The dresses looked used and overpriced. Me and my friends decided we should go prom shopping a little earlier so we get an idea of what we like and don't. As soon as we walked in the owner was extremely rude and judge mental, and continuously told us we couldn't try on certain dresses because they are out of our price range, even though we said we didn't have one and we're willing to buy an expensive dress she continuously told us we couldn't try them on. She told me I had no waist line, told my friend she had no chest, and told my other friend that she was to chesty. She refused to let us try on dresses and continued to make us feel horrible about ourselves, she implied that we were to big or to small for certain dresses. One of my friends tried on this dress the owner told her that was the one, and she was done she couldn't shop anymore, even though she wasn't sure if she loved it. I went to Ultimate Fashions Il in the Staten Island mall on April 16, 2016. To purchase a prom dress for my daughter's High School prom.My niece recommended them because she purchased her prom dress for middle school here. I have to say that everyone in the store from the owners down to the many wonderful young ladies were extremely helpful. One of the employees Ashley along with the owner were pulling out multiple dresses for my daughter. All with a smile on their faces. My daughter had to try on a least 15 dresses. Of course ,the last dress she tried on was the one. Usually dress shopping for prom is stressful. My experience in Ultimate Fashions ll was a pleasure. I was a groomsman for a friend's wedding, and couldn't be happier with the service I received from Scott at ultimate fashions 2. Backstory: I got an out of town measurement for a tuxedo, and when I went to try it on a few days before the wedding, the jacket sleeves were way too short. The jacket was exact according to the measurements, but it turned out that the guy who measured me at men's warehouse was way off. With days to spare, Scott could have ordered me another jacket, which would mean I'd have to come back another day (I live in Brooklyn and work in the city, so it was doable but not preferable). Instead he took the time at the end of the day to let the sleeves down by two inches himself while I waited, so I wouldn't have to come back. I highly recommend this store for tuxedo rentals. From what I could see, another customer who was shopping for a wedding dress seemed happy with her service as well. read more

Terrible, terrible ,terrible ...the staff is all nice and very pushy until you buy a dress or in my case dresses and then they mess up the size and the alterations & they won't fix or help you and you have to pay extra ! Just a bad experience! They won't credit you, exchange or let you return! Now I'm stuck with two dresses that don't fit me right ! The dresses are definitely over priced as well!
