What can I say about UP Bethesda? I honestly feel like I got my wings back---wish I'd made the decision sooner! So I'm an 48-year-old IT professional and when I first walked into Ultimate Performance Bethesda in late October 2025, I was sitting at about 216 lbs 6 ft tall and roughly 29% body fat--pretty standard unkempt dad bod. Post Covid life had just crept up on me the last 5 years or so and hated what I saw in the mirror . Fast forward five months to later and I'm now @ 178 lbs and sub 18% body fat (It's Late March 2026 now). Honestly, it's been an amazing transformation and I didn't think I'd get such results so quickly. What really stands out about UP is their approach. The training is very focused on hypertrophy, but more importantly, they are big on form and technique. Every rep matters, and they make sure you're doing things the right way. On top of that, their nutrition guidance is super dialed in. They keep it very precise with calorie tracking, which makes a huge difference because that's where most of the results come from. All of the trainers there are experienced and know what they're doing, but I especially want to call out my trainer Mo (Mohammed Ahmed). He's been awesome--great motivator, very knowledgeable, and he knows exactly how to push you without overdoing it. I'm honestly so encouraged by the progress that I'm sticking with it through the summer to try and get to my best shape ever. Yes, it's not cheap--but if you actually follow the program (diet, steps, training), you will get results. Think of all the wasteful "training sessions" you've done at your local gym. It's all basically a waste. You simply won't get these kind of results---no way. The UP method guarantees results----how far you take it though is entirely dependent on you ! Ultimate Performance has been a game-changer. With my trainer Zach's guidance, I've had great progress in only 6 weeks: with almost 15lbs of fat loss and seeing my testosterone levels naturally rise by a remarkable 30%. Zach's fitness expertise is top-notch. He's given me all the right techniques to help me lose body fat, while also build muscle and stamina. I've had lackluster trainers at other gyms before - but those at UP have enthusiasm and knowledge, making workouts enjoyable (while also productive). As someone with ADHD, staying on track and focused can be a BIG challenge, but Zach has a unique talent for keeping me engaged and driven. Not only is he a skilled trainer, but he's understanding, patient, and encouraging - while also holding me to high fitness and diet standards. Thanks to UP trainers, I've not only seen great physical results - but also experienced a positive shift in my mindset and motivation. Their guidance extends far beyond the gym, helping me establish healthy nutritional and lifestyle habits that contribute to my overall well-being. The ONLY downside of UP is that the price is quite high and may not be feasible long term. This is especially true since UP doesn't permit use of their weight rooms outside of personal training sessions (so you may have to keep your other gym membership if you need to lift outside of your weekly UP sessions). With that said - I originally signed up for 24 sessions - but I already plan on purchasing more sessions thanks to UP (and Zach's) quality training. After having my second baby (2 kids in 2 years), I was feeling a bit disconnected from my body, to say the least. I looked different, I felt tired, and I was determined to find a way to get healthier, feel more confident, and increase my energy. Enter Ultimate Performance. I was skeptical at first. I had worked with personal trainers before, was this really going to make the difference? Was I going to spend the $$$ and have it be the same as any other trainer? I am so happy to share that it has turned out to be 1000% worth it. For me, the big differentiator between UP and working with other trainers in the past is the focus on the nutritional aspect along with the actual training--and that shift has made all the difference for me. In the past, I've worked with trainers who primarily focused on exercises without delving into the nutritional aspect. They would suggest certain foods or exercises without thoroughly explaining their rationale or providing follow-up or guidance. At UP, they truly serve as your personal wellness coach, regularly checking in with you for accountability and support. I feel like I have a partner in my fitness journey, which helps me stick with it and celebrate the small daily wins. Their app alone is the best fitness app I've used for tracking meals, steps, etc. However, while this approach has been beneficial for me, I could see how it might feel overwhelming for people who are less inclined towards a structured, disciplined process or for someone seeking a more relaxed experience. They mean business at UP, so they do check in on you regularly to see how you're progressing. Personally, that's the experience I wanted. The community at UP Bethesda, specifically, is super professional and collegial, everyone is friendly and I enjoy going there. I have been training with Zach and he's been supportive, positive, and consistent. He also takes the time to explain things - whether it's the why behind doing a certain exercise or the reasons behind certain nutrition recommendations. If he doesn't have the answer to a question in the moment, he always follows up with me afterward. He's also just a kind person, and I feel like he wants me to succeed just as much as I want to succeed. It's been a 10/10 experience for me. I've been training at UP for 3 months and I look better than before I had kids--and I feel better too. I am eating healthier, have more energy, and even my family has benefitted from my dietary changes. This is not to say it's been easy. It's required diligence and commitment, and there have been many (many, many) days where I want to cave or stray from the plan. I highly recommend U.P. The facility is fantastic with a wide variety of equipment and the environment is always kept clean. The atmosphere is bright and lively. The staff is friendly and encouraging. My trainer, Mo, makes all the difference. He's upbeat, energetic and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to fitness and nutrition. He lives what he teaches and stays in great shape himself. He's a stickler for good form and the safety and strength that comes along with it. He's highly encouraging when it comes to my goals. They may be as good as they claim but good luck trying to get an appointment. I left my information, in person twice and online twice. I had to come in to complain before I finally received an appointment during which I was told that there is a 3 month waiting period for a trainer. Additionally, the corporate office related that a hybrid of in-person and virtual training could be arranged. However, once I came in for a consultation, I was told that no such hybrid existed. Since I related that I was in the area for just one month, I have no idea why I was even given an consultation 2 weeks after my initial request. They could have told me that training with them would not be possible initially and not waste my time. The consultant's mantra was that there was no way I could train in-person with Ultimate Performance--unless I was going to complete 32 weeks in person. Reading the other reviews, I see that I was lied to. I am sure another gym would like the revenue: Ultimate Performance - Bethesda obviously is not in need of any. read more

I am a 30 something- stay at home, mom of 2- I badly needed to make a change for my health. I was walking a fine line of passing my bad habits down to my little girls. I was overweight, tired of feeling tired, and wanted better for my kids. I did my due diligence and searched around the area for trainers. I met with different facilities and trainers to help me in getting back to a healthy lifestyle. I saved my last stop for Ultimate Performance, and as the saying goes "I guess I saved the best for last." This place is full service. You want to talk about nutrition- done. You want to be pushed past what you thought you could do? done. You need accountability? Done. I thought I knew what I should be doing to lose weight and what I should be eating but I was wrong. I am eating more than I ever did on prior 'diets' and I am down 32 pounds and still going. Nate is my trainer- He has pushed me far beyond what I thought I was capable of and believes in me far beyond what I believe in myself. If you are not disciplined and need someone to devise a plan, hold you accountable and push you to your limits, this is the place. It is no-nonsense personal training. You have to use an app where you track everything, including your daily weight, steps, water consumption, and your meals (you even have to upload a picture of every meal). If you don't follow the plan 100% daily, you can expect to receive a message from your trainer every.single.time! If you follow the strict protocol, you will see results very quickly. The downside is that they force you to lift extremely heavy weights. I felt that there were many times that my form was lacking because the weight was too heavy for me, and I was fearful that it could lead to an injury. Also, they check your body fat every few weeks, and they pinch the skin so hard I was left with bruises several times. read more

Austin, and UP Bethesda have transformed my body. I'm a 40 something plastic surgeon. I work with patients day in and day out who have similarly transformed their bodies and want to get rid of extra skin or have cosmetic issues they need addressed so the importance of being physically fit is not lost on me. I have lost weight several times in may life through diet and exercise but after getting older, getting married and having a child that keeps me busy at home, I had not been able to do it myself. I have been trying for the last 10 yrs to lose a little bit of weight only to gain it back and more. I felt I really needed help with this and wanted to really get as strong and fit as when I met my wife. Austin and UP Bethesda really really know what they are doing. I'm a vegetarian as well which makes dieting that much more difficult. I also don't really have time to meal prep. Austin was able to work with all of that. Plus he is always available (when I am planning to go out, he is able to review the menu and help me with my choices as I am going through my cutting phase). In 4 months I lost 37 lbs. Plus I am much stronger, and fitter. They put you on a plan both physically and nutritionally and constantly tweak and alter based on what is and what is not working. They don't waste your time with them by doing cardio with them. Your time is well spent doing weights and resistance that is not hard on your body so you don't hurt yourself. They give you a manageable cardio plan at home (key is trying to get as close to 10k steps in a day). I cannot recommend them enough. My wife who has a nerve injury and disability has started to work with Austin because we trust him so much (every time she has previously worked with a trainer it causes her disability to flair and Austin has been able to work with her without doing so). After I found them on instagram I had to look into them and I am so happy I did. Yes, it is a pricey investment but your health is the most important thing and it has transformed my body. Ultimate Performance is an amazing gym. I only had 8 short weeks at UP, but the progress I saw was incredible. From day one, it was clear that UP is not your average gym. Ethan, my trainer, took a great amount of time to understand my fitness goals and background, tailoring a diet and a very challenging fitness program just for me. This level of individual attention made all the difference. In just 8 weeks on a cut, I lost a lot of fat and got significantly stronger, something I didn't think would happen on such a steep cut. This was in part because of the tailored diet and workouts, but also because on the gym floor Ethan knew just how to push me hard enough. When Ethan was out, though, I trained with other trainers who were all equally amazing. Now I have more energy and I feel lighter and stronger. My time at UP taught me so much about proper dieting and strength training--both in terms of how to structure a workout and how to progressively overload--but most importantly, the power of consistency in diet and training.
