went here for free with one of those print out passes on Saturday night. so glad i did not pay to go in. i had fun, but it is definitely not worth the 20 they are trying to pass as a cover. don't understand what the vip room is about, my friend asked the bouncer (i thought the bouncers that roamed the inside of the club were all really nice) if we could go up and he let us in, but it was the same as the rest of the bar, same people, same music, same empty tables. the dj in the "hip hop" room was good, and he took requests. the guy bartender on the main floor gave us nice strong drinks. best part of the night was the fight that broke out, what can i say i'm a sucker for a sucker punch. WHERE IS DRESS CODE?! Came on a Saturday for a birthday. Let me just say the entire bar/club has gone completely down hill since I use to come in 2010-2012. Everyone has sneakers on from Nike's to Timberlands to Vans! And the overall look is pretty basic like taking a stroll through a high school or college campus (ripped jeans/hats/hoodies/shoelace belt). Kids in the bathrooms washing off their X's to get drinks and watch bartenders still serve them! Using a credit card is another disappointment, they demand you charge $25 on it on top of that they "self-tip" when did that become a thing? Honestly this club has only gotten worse and I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND! Save yourself the time and money. I'd respect this place if they had a strict dress code versus loosey goosey dress codes where I could come back in a t-shirt and vans. I went here with a couple of my friends, looking for a fun night out. We've never gone clubbing before and wanted to give it a try at UltraBar.As stated before, this place is definitely only fun for 21+ (which we are not). The men there looked MUCH older than us, probably upper 20s, early 30s. I felt disgusting being ogled by them. Definitely would not use the term "diverse" to describe the crowd it attracted. Also, the coat check is a rip off. Make sure you go when it's warm out so you don't have to pay $10+tax for each item you wish to check in. On the plus side, the actual place looks very nice and they have multiple floors playing different styles of music. Also, the hired dancers were very entertaining! read more

I went here for NYE and at first was okay, my friends and I were having fun with the different floors. The prices were ridiculously high. They also allowed WAY too many people in and it was very overpacked with older men trying to grab you constantly. If not for the guys in my group who knows what could have happened. As we were leaving a girl was crying and saying she had just been raped and the bars bouncers did NOTHING but basically tell her to leave. This is unacceptable and disgusting. I haven't been here for about a year, but last time I went there was a huge line in cold weather for no reason. It was filled up with a bunch of college kids who were on drugs such as ecstasy. I don't really care that much but it does get a little annoying when 20 different people are doing their little glowstick routine and blowing vick's vapor rub into each others' eyes. I also think part of the long line was all the purse-searching they were doing. Because everyone knows that the only place to hide drugs is in your purse. The dance floor ended up being so packed by midnight that you literally could not move through without constantly rubbing people. I'm talking shoulder to shoulder to ass to thigh to breasts. You know, I've only been here once but I had a really great time. I liked the different music on each floor and thought it was a good place to go with a group of friends and just dance! The only thing i don't like is standing in a line-that really sucks. Especially when it's not even crowded yet but the club just wants to "look" really busy. I didn't pay the cover bc I had some sort of coupon so that was a plus--I don't do covers (unless it's like $5, then whatever). The line did move pretty quickly though and once i was inside I had a blast so i quickly forgot about it. I would recommend you check it out--there is music for every taste and I didn't think the crowd seemed as terrible as some other yelpers said-it's pretty much as diverse as its music, which I find a little refreshing. I don't like going to clubs where everyone looks like they've been going there for years--variety is the spice of life people. I typically have a good time when I go to this place. I have been there many time to enjoy my night, my company has entertained there a couple of time and we have thrown a few public events at this venue as well. everyone there is nice to work with and pretty accomodating. Great music on saturday nights, their VJ rocks. Love to be on the balcony at a VIP table. great lighting effect and good amoutn of Scorpion lasers and mirrors set up in the perfect spots. The one thing that needs help are soe of the doormen that were rude to me even though I told them that I was the event sponsor and was literally paying for them to be there and was the one who was running the event that day. other than that, nothing bad. read more

This club is pretty fun one of my favorite in DC. Although it says 5 floor I can honestly say I can only find 4. Watch out for ass grabbers and pushers. Also if you open a tab be careful. I opened one for the masquerade event and was the bill was charged twice and couldn't get in contact with anyone about it. Left several messages and emails but nothing. Do NOT go here if you're planning on celebrating ANYTHING!!! THEY DON'T CARE FOR THEIR PATRONS AT ALL!!! Recently it was my 21st birthday, and going against what other people on yelp said, I decided to book a table. Since I did not want the tables to be booked before I could get mine, I decided to make the reservation TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE. I had talked to an employee named Alix, who actually verified it and confirmed that I was to have said table on the night that I requested. I even looked on the website with the table reservations and it was green before I talked to her, and red after it, ensuring that my booking went through. She knew that it was going to be my birthday and even offered to give me a free bottle of champagne and cupcakes. I thought this was going to be a really good night, but turned out to be really horrid. Two weeks roll around and I am on my way to my table at ultrabar. I get on the line, everything is fine at the door, we all get in. As we are getting led to the table, I realize that we are not brought to the table that I had requested. Upon talking to Alix, she stated that someone else booked the table before me and that it is not available. I tried to explain that we booked the table two weeks in advance and that it was my birthday, but she did not care. She gave me a bogus excuse and told me that a PROMOTER booked the table before me, which was impossible because SHE even confirmed with me that the table was mine. It was a case of someone who was bigger and more important that wanted that table and ULTRABAR decided to not honor my booking for my BIRTHDAY. Since she knew that I was upset, she said that she was going to give us a round of free shots. WHICH NEVER HAPPENED. She disappeared off into the recesses of the club and had another employee take care of us. I asked our waitress MULTIPLE times where Alix went and if she could bring her over considering that she fell through not only on the promise of the shots, but also on the cupcakes, and SHE NEVER CAME BACK. It was obvious that she told our waitress that she did not want to be bothered with our requests. Not only were the employees rude and unprofessional, but they make it completely obvious that they do not care for their patrons. No matter what you are celebrating or how much money you are paying to do so, THEY DO NOT CARE. ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY. In all my years, I have never been so disrespected after paying SO much money. Their lack of customer service is utterly DISGUSTING. If you are thinking of having any kind of celebration here in the slightest, DO NOT. I should have listened to the many others here on yelp, but I didn't, so here's my chance at trying to save you, the well paying customer, from being treated horribly on your big day. Ultrabar is always a great time...Although I have recently noticed that it gets extremely hot inside. I wish they were a little more strict at the door as who to let in. There are a lot of poorly dressed or poorly acting youths that head in. I guess this is since it is an 18+ crowd. Stopped going Thursdays for the most part since it was just wreaking havoc of immature people that got in the club sh*tfaced and decided to act cool. Went here a couple nights ago Friday night had a blast went out with the guys and was pretty amazed at the structure very very nice once inside couldnt tell from outside what to really expect got there early had a couple drinks that were fairly priced. The people i met there were really chill relaxed people, music was amazing there was so much going on i had no idea which floor i wanted to stay on by the way not to mention the women there are very very beautiful and not stuck up way to go ultra so overall great time this will b the new spot to hit on fridays for sure read more

I've only been twice, but this place is ridiculous. I went for a birthday party and we had to wait in an ungodly long time to get in. On top of that it's a $20 cover charge to get in. That's kind of ridiculous when you can get into many places for $5 or nothing. It was horribly crowded with the bathroom on the bottom level. Which makes no sense. Surprised to see so many bad comments...buuuut then again I've only been to ultrabar once and that was a NYE celebration. Had a great time with my friend bringing in 2012!!!! There were several floors to visit and party in and the wait outside wasn't long at all (of course we bought our tickets in advance). Very spacious and they had PLENY of party favors (hats, noisemakers, etc) to go round. NYE so there weren't little kids every where, all adults! Everyone was there for a great time. My friends and I got in with some "21+ before 11pm" promotion and avoided the cover, so that was a great start already. There are so many great things about this club, it's one of my favorites so far in DC. Music - not memorable, but it got me dancing and they even played my favorite song (Notorious BIG "Hypnotize"). I also distinctly remember being able to hold a coherent conversation with most people I ran into. Had a little trouble with a cute Mexican girl, but I blame her English skills and not the volume of the club. Layout - The multiple floors made for a big enough space to explore and wander, whiel the rectangular layout was great for meandering in a sensible direction. If I wanted to "accidentally" wind up next to a particular group/person, it was easy to do so because the whole place is only 15 ft wide. Staff - Neutral here. Bouncers here take their job seriously, by which I mean they frisked me significantly more aggressively than TSA ever does. Bartenders were swamped around 11-11:30, so it took me at least 10-15 minutes to get my first drink. Suggestion: wave around a wad of cash, they (understandably) respond well to that. The VIP waitresses looked a little bored while waiting for their guests, so I offered them some conversation and they happily accepted. Go-go dancers were in great shape ... must be all that cardio they get on the weekends. Crowd - a little on the young side, mostly around early 20's. There were a few older women from an earlier event, but the ones that are there to party ... stay to party! I'd heard about the older sketchies but I did not encounter any myself - perhaps because I am not an 18 year old girl? In any case the crowd was diverse, friendly, mostly very approachable and fun. As for the density, there was enough room to break out some dance moves and walk about without eating people sandwich every few steps, yet packed enough that I never ran out of new people to talk to. A few other reviews addressed the lack of AC or water. That must've gotten fixed because it was not a problem for me at all. This place is awesome; even though I didn't know about the two floors above the floor to get in/out. Parking is kind of sketchy, but what do you expect in big city. Line moved fast but the I'D checker could've done better. The cocktail server is hot but rude to my friend. Sorry if her English is not good as she just moved to the USA last month. I rethought my previous review and decided maybe I was a bit harsh. I think I'd just heard so much about Ultrabar being "one of the best clubs in DC" that my hopes were too high. From a few visits, this is what I've observed: The music was alright and it was nice to have options of music types on every level (the 2nd floor plays Latin beats as I recall). It is a narrow bar with many floors, which gets way too overcrowded, especially in and around the stairways so it's hard to move from floor to floor. This also means that there is very little room to dance. And I love diverse crowds, but the crowd here is just plain sleazy - girls wearing too tight, too short, and guys with greasy hair and halfway unbottoned shirts. I don't remember the music or atmosphere standing out from other clubs. It seems more like a place you might go if you are looking to hook up with someone that night. read more

Writing this first part on behalf of my 19-20 year old college friends who came with me on a Friday night. They charged them a $20 cover. Even the top clubs in NYC won't charge covers that expensive for underage people. They should be happy these kids weren't using fake ids to get in and get wasted. As for me, the line was atrocious. About 20 minutes wait time. And you also had to stand behind and in front of creepy Eurotrash. The bouncers that I spoke to didn't have a solid command of the English language either. Inside it was "ultra" modern so of course the drink prices were overpriced to pay for the expensive decor. I liked how there were different levels with different styles of music. However, don't lose track of your friends because the cell reception in there is shit. Not good when you're getting groped by old men outside the women's bathroom and need your guy friends to come rescue you. Take a friend to the bathroom always! And water is $4. For some unknown reason, in the last month I have been to Ultra 4 times. I guess that makes me qualified for this review right? My first two weeks in DC I somehow ended up at Ibiza and Lux. Both places made me feel as if I was in the movie Get Rich or Die Trying so those were immediately crossed off the list. Back then I still had a few weeks to go before turning 21 so I wanted to go somewhere 18+ that was fun. After reading some yelp reviews I decided I would check it out. The first time I went I was extremely impressed! We had printed out Skip the line passes so even though I had to pay $15 (because I wasn't 21) things went smoothly at the door. Inside was pretty sweet, the music was loud, seemed like a good crowd and at midnight (it was a friday) they dropped balloons and confetti from the ceiling. The dance floor is a little hard to navigate especially since you have to get across it to go anywhere else. The dance floor downstairs was empty the first time we went and so I didn't really stick around but it was pretty nice. Upstairs was alright, had it's own bar too but it seemed more for people who just want to grab a seat and chill out for a bit. It over looks the main dance floor so a bit of a creeper attraction. One thing I will say is that the men on our first night were extremely persistent and annoying. Some try to grab your ass and or dance up on you which can get a little much. We ended up telling them we were lesbians. You would think that would work but most just winked. The second time I went to Ultra opened my eyes a little more. Those bouncers are no joke. First of all there are a ridiculous amount of them and you don't even realize this until 3am when they are all standing outside. They take turns being stationed in various places in the club and they don't miss anything. Now, a fair warning to those of you who like me think you can be slick by having someone older buy you drinks. Those X's on your hands are not on there for decoration. Literally two seconds after I SIPPED my friends drink, it was radioed in and I was promptly kicked out. Yup, that happened. Honestly, two times at Ultra is probably enough to last you. If you are under 21 then its a cool place to hang out but sometimes they switch things up on you so never expect consistency. For instance, on impulse my friends and I went last night. We got there around 00:30 (yes i use military time) and the bouncer after seeing that I was only 20 asked me if i had been drinking. He then proceeded to ask me to blow onto his nose, like really?! He then gave me a mini pep talk on how I shouldn't drink inside. Then they wouldn't accept my friends Indian ID even though they did the last 3 TIMES, and in order to combat this problem they put X's on her hands instead. Overall, its a cool place but not much talent since a lot of the guys are either creepy or young. I'm guessing attractive 21+ people that don't have younger friends have better places to be. I can't say your experience will be like mine but I'm hoping that this will be the end of my dysfunctional relationship with Ultra. read more

This is long over due. I'm new to the DC area, and this was the very first club I've been to in the area. First off, the line was extremely long for it being 11:30. When my group finally got to the front of the line, we had to wait another 10 minutes before we were let in. There had to have been at least 20 people walk out of the club before he let my group of 6 in. Once in, I was confused by what I saw. The time I spent in line wasn't comparable to the amount of people inside. As the night progressed, it did get more crowded, but it was filled with subpar 19 year olds. Coming from Texas, I had high expectations of the DC night life. I was expecting beautiful women, great music, strong drinks, and a wild night. The women, as I mentioned before, were decent at best. The music, while not terrible, could have been better. And the drinks, well, they were over priced, and watered down. Not to mention it took forever to get them. I hope I have a better club experience somewhere else before I leave for back home. read more
