My wife and I were happy customers here for about 2 years and I used to have a 5-star review here…read more(now removed). Then Dr Safi and Dr Albazzaz left and everything went downhill fast. I don't know the third dentist (Dr Javad, I think), so this review is a reflection on the office staff and not him. When I heard Drs Albazzaz/Safi left, I called to inquire about what happened. I had a hard time getting a live person to answer and when I did, she was clueless and said her manager would call me. No call back. I called again a couple weeks later and left a voicemail explaining that I had questions as to what was going on with their practice. Again, no call back. I'd had enough, so found a new dentist and called to cancel my upcoming appt at North Ave Dental Associates. I explained why I was leaving and they canceled my appt. Then, lo and behold, I get a call from their office a few weeks later asking to set up my next appt. I politely told them for the second time that I was no longer a customer. My wife had an even worse time- she emailed them in March to request her dental records as the new dentist required them. No response. She had to follow up both by email and phone several more times between then and early August before they FINALLY sent the requested records. Dealing with a dentist office should not be this difficult. The dentists here may be fine, but so are a lot of other dentists and many of them would come without the office staff headaches.

Not the Same Practice Anymore…read more We used to love coming to this office when it was run by Dr. Turnwald and his team. My kids actually enjoyed going to the dentist, and the entire staff was fantastic. About a year ago, I was having tooth pain and called to set up an appointment, and I was pleasantly surprised to get in the same day. However, when I showed up, I found out the entire old staff and Dr. Turnwald had left, and the practice had been sold to a new doctor--without any notice. Even the text and email confirmations still had the old dentist's name, so it was pretty frustrating to show up and find an entirely new staff and doctor. While the new staff was nice and the doctor was okay, the whole experience felt off-putting since I booked the appointment thinking it was still my family's trusted dentist. I also really missed my old hygienist, who always made visits easy for my kids. Honestly, had they been more upfront about the change when I called, it might not have left such a sour taste in my mouth. But now, I drive 30 minutes out of my way to see Dr. Black, where she has her own practice, and it's worth it for the care we receive. Most of the positive Yelp reviews here are for the old practice under Dr. Turnwald, and it says a lot that the entire staff left when he did. We've since followed Dr. Black to new office, and our family is much happier for it.

OK, here we go. I go to St. Charles Dental Care today for my regular every 6 month dental…read morecleaning. HORRIBLE!. I get there and some receptionist checks me in and hands me some "update" form as to my medical history. I literally tell her, I have no updates and literally just had my annual physical two days earlier and had no changes and all my labs are IDEAL (literally better than textbook across the board). She indicates to me that every two years they need an update. YET, I sure as heck don't remember having to do an update two years ago. So I am really starting to wonder on that statement. Ok, fine, so I go sit down to now fill out this form. (And here's a thought, if you want such paperwork done, why not send it digitally days earlier? Why not give enough time to fill it out when you arrive? Why not have some type of "update" form that asks is there anything new to update versus all the info on an original form? Why is it these dental offices/medical offices can't be a little more proactive and up on technology rather than wasting time?). So I literally (yes literally) had just sat down and filled out my name section and phone number and the dental hygienist comes to get me for my cleaning. I just stare at her. I just tossed the form in the seat next to me and said, "Well, I guess I am not filling this out." She gives me a dirty look and tells me to pick up the clip board with form on it from the chair. Yeah no. Not ever going to happen. When I already started the form, am given NO time to even fill it out much less even read it and now you want to hurry me along to get my dental cleaning done and think I am being unreasonable. Yeah no. And considering I had never met this hygienist before what in the heck is this nonsense. So of course she marches me down to her area and then the roughest and messiest dental cleaning I have ever had began. She was exceptionally rough with the tools and did all she could to rush through the procedure. Yeah that's just great and I am paying for that. Thanks a lot St. Charles Dental Care! I have never had so much water and what not all over my face. She didn't even offer a tissue or paper towel or anything (even at the end of the procedure) and just let me there a big mess. So I ask for a tissue and she is all huffy about it. (It took all my being not to tell her to simply FUCK OFF!). Yet, I said my please and thank you's and did whatever she wanted, but I immediately let her know I wanted to talk to the office manager. Of course, as expected, she runs right up to the front to go talk to the manager to give "her side of the story". Uh, huh, yeah ok, who is the patient here and who is paying the bill? Yeah not you lady. And then of course, to top it all off, my regular dentist (very good guy by the way is on vacation) and the hygienist wanted me to see the other dentist I had never met before and never have ever seen before. Yeah no. No notice or anything of this. NONE! So I refused on that whole issue. Why would I do that? So I can continue an even worse exam? Yeah no thank you. Soooooooo looking forward to talking with my regular dentist when he comes back. Just unbelievable. Now do I think that hygienist is a b****. Yes, I do. And I told the manager as well (who of course was not happy with my choice of adjective). Too bad. Maybe hire people who can do things appropriately and be professional and here's a thought give you time to actually fill out forms that the office is wanting, etc. Just ridiculous! Where do others go for good, competent dental care? I just don't EVER want to see that hygienist ever again.
