I used to love this clinic. Even when I lived 30 miles away I would literally come down to this place. It was my doctor (pretty sure she was a nurse practitioner or something like that but each time I would call her a my doctor they would correct me) she was the reason I was still going there. I hated that I would have to wait months to see her but I've seen numerous doctors when I couldn't wait for the month or so and they literally could have cared less about me. Either way, each time I would call to make an appointment I can never get through but funny thing is when you go in person they have 272910193738 of people working and like 5 people max in the waiting room. I also would like to add on that I called to make an appointment at 4 because I work and I know they close at 5. Why am I still on hold? 45 minutes later? This could have been dealt with in minutes. This clinic used to be great, when I had a different doctor. They relocated a few doctors I assume because I never saw them again. I could only speak in context to my new doctor, Stella Ondieki. She does the bare minimum to keep it short. No interest is shown in her patients. She only does the checkups, writes down some junk and moves on. Previous doctor would actually talk with us and seemed genuine. She would even call us personally to tell us results and tips. All of that is gone. What you will get is a doctor who just does the minimum to keep her job and shows no interest in building connections with their patients. it is a real shame Also, my son got checked up and didn't even receive his results. read more

Service is horrible ‼ I tried making an appointment and the call was transferred to a call center and the appointment was never answered; meaning the doctor never called me back; although I had a virtual appointment‼Then I keep calling and not once, not twice nor three or four times but five attempts to see the doctor for a referral and update my son for his vaccines that he may start school soon, still no call back from the doctor for the virtual meeting to receive a referral and in person treatment for my son vaccines. This type of service should not be tolerated, ridiculous‼ this clinic was good when they first open, but now they are just like the rest .... "poor service"! Service was great before. Now it's so hard to ever speak to someone. They never answer or return the calls back. They don't see you in person even if you have a negative covid result. They rather see all their clients through video. I think the administrative team needs to be handled better when it comes to calling back or following through with requests. read more

I smiled at the front desk lady and asked her do they provide TB shots and she said they do. My prayers was answered in that moment, I was so happy. The process was quick and painless. Been with this clinic since 2018. Maria Galaviz is a nurse practitioner and I do not like her services. I know I am fat, it is obvious and that resonates in my head all the time, this is the main reason I stopped going. Since the beginning (2018) my A1C was high and she told me I was prediabetic when in reality I have been diabetic since I started going there. Lately it has been extremely hard for someone to answer the freking phone. Today alone I made 8 phone calls and did not get an answer. Will try tomorrow morning again. I have also been waiting for a referral to a nutritionist and it's been around 2 months and nothing. Highly considering changing my doctor. read more

This clinic was amazing when they had just opened, I even started taking my mom there. Recently I have been trying to call to scehdule an appointment and I am not able to get through. I have left messages and I have not received a call back. I was finally able to speak to receptionist to schedule an appointment for my mom. I was told that it had to be over the phone and they would call at said time and date....My mom NEVER received the call from the doctor. Will not go back. Time to find a new clinic. read more

I love the fact that they do appointments so they assist you right away, not like other clinics even with appointments they have so many people scheduled around the same time that you wait forever! I have to say that of all the different hospitals clinics and medical practices I have ever gone to, UMMA Community clinic was by far THE best experience. The staff is very kind, they truly care about people. My first time there, there was a really GHETTO COUPLE who walked in yelling, making a fuss about a service they weren't even paying for, and the staff handled the whole situation so systematically and perfectly that I wanted to stand up and give them a round of applause. They totally eased the tension and frustration in the room, spoke firmly and professionally to the couple and handled the situation so that all the other people waiting to be seen where not being disrupted by the chaos this LOUD MOUTHED couple brought in. (THIS IS A BIG DEAL TO ME BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN SITUATIONS LIKE THIS PLAY OUT HORRIFICALLY). *For a first time walk in, the sign in process/chart process was short and straight to the point, I filled out an Info sheet, a HIPAA release and proof of identification. I was happy that they squeezed me in and was happy to wait any amount of time, but i was seen by an MD in less than an hour. *The place is very clean, bathroom is CLEAN, serene atmosphere, accommodations for children to sit and read or color even.I hate going to hospitals where kids are running around in the wait room..I like that there was a small section for the kids to stay occupied. *You are charged according to ISLAMIC belief--based on what you can truly afford. To be honest with you...it's one of those places that you feel happy to donate because you see the value and the money really going to use. * The staff is friendly, accommodating, professional and INFORMATIVE. I had every question answered by the doctor. The staff was good about following up, and as soon as I sat in the examining room, I was seen within 3 minutes. The staff were efficient, and considerate. They knocked on the door to make sure I was ready, asked if I needed anything initially before I was seen by the MD...They were just thorough. *There is parking. It is small, but sufficient for the clinic. They won't tow you if you park against the island, or other parts of the lot, so long as you are not blocking an entrance or other cars exit. *They welcome all cultures. THEY REALLY HAVE A GOOD UNDERSTANDING of the concept of COMMUNITY. *Only thing that is hard to do is get a hold of them via phone. But getting through takes just as long as getting through any other medical clinic...if you are familiar with wait times to schedule an appointment at Planned Parenthood...it's around the same ball park. read more

The staff are always friendly and help me whenever I'm having issues with getting a medication or need to be seen by a doctor sooner than expected. They are attentive to the medical needs of not only myself but my family as well. We all have a long history here. There is no other clinic that I would trust with my medical care than UMMA. OMG..I don't even know where to begin. I called them and was able to get an appt the following day. I went to their new location on Avalon and it was amazing. The staff there were beyond helpful and sweet. I felt so welcomed. Oh and it was SO CLEAN. I am a freak when it comes to places that look dirty..but let me tell you, this place was sparkling clean. I recently lost my health insurance and I couldn't afford to go to an urgent care and this place was a miracle. The doctors and staff are fine, but much of the practice is a disorganized mess. The phone system is unprofessional and frustrating. You can call, be placed on hold and then remain on hold for up to 10 minutes and then a recording comes on that says "We're sorry we can't take your call." And you're disconnected. The other problem is if you use this clinic via insurance the billing practices are impossible to track and follow. I used them through HealthNet. HealthNet would issue me an Explanation of Benefits, sometimes saying that I had no copy and that the amount a provider could bill me was zero. Unbeknownst to HealthNet, Umma, which functioned as "The Medical Group" would tell the provider I owed a co-pay. However, they never issued me a statement saying that I owed a co-pay. So I would call HealthNet for help with a provider billing me when the EOB stated I had no financial responsibility and they would tell the provider to stop billing me. The provider would then say, "You need to call the Medical Group, because they say she owes a co-pay. The whole operation made no sense. What's the point in issuing an EOB if it's invalid according to Umma. Perhaps if you're a Medicare patient using Umma, they're fine. But it's time consuming and annoying using them when you pay for insurance. Umma has also charged me a co-pay at the time of service and then billed me later for the same co-pay. Maybe is is a hustle they have going, figuring that it's more of a hassle to argue that you paid already than to simply pay it again. I keep meticulous records, so I have receipts when I pay and can show them, but many people won't and likely pay twice. I wish the billing operation functioned better, because I did like my doctor, but life is too short to spend hours on the phone dealing with their errors in billing. read more

I almost don't want to write a review for this clinic b/c I don't want them to become too busy! But I think this place deserves a gazillion stars, if that's possible. I had first heard about UMMA while at UCLA, and thought it was a great idea/program, since there really isn't free/low income health care in LA if you don't have medical...which not everyone qualifies for. It wasn't until I lost my job 2 yrs ago that I needed a place like this for myself. LA Free Clinic seemed imposible to make an appt to...like on many days, it was just for men, other days, just for kids. I couldn't understand it. If I got super sick, I would end up going to urgent care and spending hundreds of dollars (and ask my parents to foot the bill, which is super lame). Planned Parenthood is great, but a LONG wait always, and only a few services are offered. Then I remembered UMMA. I live in Echo Park, so it wasn't too far (south central LA). I called, and although a bit of a hold on the phone, they got me in for an appt a week later...which actually isn't that long of a wait, if you've ever tried to get a dr's apt at kaiser w/ a primary care phys. I was having horrible stomach pains during that time, and I swear, the dr. I had (a dude, i can't remember his name :-() was so super thorough, had amazing bed-side manner, skilled, and holistic..which i love. And then sent me off w/ a bunch of free fiber! While I was there, I sched another appt w/ the family planning dr. for my "women's needs", and she was also great..I had to get some procedure done (yes, tmi), but she was lovely, and helpful. AND here is why I HAD to write a review...they called me today, a yr later, to schedule my annual...who does that?????? I certainly forgot. And they have saturday appts. Seriously, if you don't need low cost healthcare, then just donate to this place...they deserve it. And healthcare in America is a serious bitch for the uninsured. read more

Over the years this place has become worse and worse, for a place that claims that they care about people and wanna help out theyre sure doing a lousy job of doing so. I walked in today with a sever throat infection, asked the receptionist if I can please be seen by a doctor and she tells me to come back after lunch in a very rude way. I was there at 11:30 and there was no one there! They take lunch at 12! I cant believe she couldnt have a doctor see me. It doesnt take more than 15 minutes to see a patient and proscribe something for a throat infection. I really hope you people at UMMA read this and all the other bad reviews and you guys get your shit together. I also wanna point out that their lunch is from 12 till 2 and they all leave at the same time. People need help! Whos smart ass idea was it for everyone to leave and close the place for 2 hours? Ok So... I was so happy to find this place on yelp.I thought I was finally going to find a good place that could help me. I called the clinic this morning and it took me nearly ten minutes to DRUM ROLL PLEASE.....GET VOICE MAIL!!!! YAY I get to leave a message after waiting 10 minutes! Why would you do that to a person.? I was so determined to get in touch and make an appoinment I decided to go directly to them and talk to them in person. I found the place easy enough and talked to the receptionist after explaining my visit all she said was "NO NEW PATIENTS" Thats right folks this place doesnt even accept people anymore so there isnt a real reason to even read their reviews.The receptionist then gave me a list of clinics When I asked "Are these services free aswell?" She said " I dont know ,you need to call them and find out". This place raised my hopes only to throw them away. I was very dissapointed in Umma Clinic resently. My aunt went in for a important visit. she has been ill lately. The family and her has been anxiously waited for her appointment. On this appointment day she was to get her results from the last tests that had been done. When she went into the office for her appointment they were putting in a new computer system. They asked her many questions that they should have already had the answers too. Then time ran out and they closed without giving her results to her. Now she must make a new appointement. My aunt could have a very serious condition that could be harming her body. Umma told her theyr'e sure that everything will be ok. Don't worry about it. She will get the results on her next appointment. Who doesn't worry about there health? She left her temp. job where she hopes to become employed to get to this appointment on time. She can't keep leaving work early. My aunt resently lost her last job and has never experience such service. She has always had health insurance. It is sad that the people who financially disabled can't get quailty service. Umma should have worked over time to take care of the paient that was there on time for her appointment. If she came for result and the results was there they should have eased her weary mind by giving her the results. I only pray that they found nothing. This clinic is by far the best I ever been. I did not only had my prenatal there but my son has the same doctor I was attended by. The staff is super friendly and if course already know who I am. I would recommend this place. They also took my mom in and helped her with some aches and pains according to our budget. Yes it's hard to get an appointment at times but it's worth the wait . I had trouble getting in at first but didn't give up. This will also be the clinic I will continue going to as long as I live in Los Angeles. read more

Appointment availability is scarce, 3 week out appointments, On the day of my appointment I showed up to the facility on Florence and Hoover only to be told that my appointment was at their "Other" location.. being that I mentioned this was my first time coming when I scheduled the appointment I think it's pertinent to give the address to where your going to send me.. or it's fair to assume the address on my card would be where I'd show up to.. My appointment was rescheduled to the following day.. Dr. Anne Gleason was rude and rushed me through my appointment. Stating that she knew I had a "Laundry list" of concerns and Even said she had other patients that she needed to take care of (like I didn't wait 3 weeks for my appointment) and insisted that I schedule another appointment to address the rest my concerns and laughingly snaps the gloves off and tossed them in the trash To get me out of the way. I felt as if there was no respect given at all, I was just a number. My concerns were invalid, my voice wasn't heard my concerns and questions went un answered. let's get her in and out ASAP was the tone.. I felt like my woman's health exam was being taken as a joke. Oh and when my labs came back they called me with my results but didn't have time to counsel me then or answer any of the questions I had .. again I was given the excuse I have other patients .. it's clear they don't take pride in their jobs.. well at least Dr. Gleason doesn't.. i'm lost of words! this clinic is the worse place ever! do not i mean do not go here! very unpleasant, very unprofessional and i'm talking from the front area to the back! receptionists have really bad attitudes sat in the lobby for an whole hour before someone aknowledged that i was still waiting to be seen! after that it still took another 15 minutes before they called me to the back. mind you i was the only one in the office at the time! finally i get to the back for the doctor to just walk in and not speak nor introduce herself! my doctor wasn't there so i had to deal with dr. what's her name fast forward i needed a form filled out for the dentist where it was told to me that it would be ready the next day! well let me tell you they're giving me the run around and acting like they don't know what the hell i'm talking about! i'm so frustrated right now! i will most definitely be changing clinics asap. and that 1 star that i gave them was for the super cold air they had on. read more

I went in with my mom and I was upset her appointment was taking long and this lady was walking in and I guess she saw my face and asked me if she can help me with anything I told her yeah tell the doctor to hurry up, She immediately apologized for the wait offered me water or coffee or tea and gave me a bottle of water she introduced her self as the clinic manager her name is Vanessa she then went and found out how much longer it would be and came out and told me that they had an emergency in the back and that's why it was taking so long we saw when the fire department got there so I know she wasn't lying. She gave me her business card and told me if I ever had an issue with anything to please not hesitate to call her directly I really appreciate her taking the time to talk to me and my mom. She was very sweet and I just appreciate her being honest . I saw her talking to her staff and I heard her keep thanking them and saying great job team that was really cool no one does that anymore. I really like the doctors and nurses here. They have helped me with my medicines and problem. The only reason I give it 2 stars is because one staff person was very rude to another staff person and it seems like this is okay with their managers. I also overheard the rude person talking about patients and saying something like they are not very smart. I was told the person's name is Mariam and when I asked why they don't fire Mariam, they held their hands out like they could not do anything about it. I think management needs to do something so I am giving them 2 starts for this reason. But the doctors and nurses get 5 stars. read more

I have received very poor service from the staff here. My 1st appointment could not be scheduled for a month even after I explained I had just been released from the hospital. I have had to beg the staff to release lab results from a routine check up to me by phone even when the doctor had advised it would not be necessary for me to come in or schedule another visit for the results . When I requested them in person the staff inquired if I had already seen/spoken to the physician about them first. The whole demeanor and attitude from the receptionist made me feel as if I had some type of horrible illness that needed to be discussed when in fact my results were negative and there was no need to be alarmed. I requested one of the first appointments on another visit and waited over an hour to be seen by the doctor after I arrived. I called in for lab results yet again but could not get them over the phone or get the doctor call me back. With the staff at this clinic I feel as if my health and wellness is not a priority. If you're looking for professional health care I would not recommend this facility. read more
