We love Dr. Grinberg. My oldest (now 5) started seeing her when he was 2 and my youngest (now 2) when he was born. I appreciate so many things about Dr. Grinberg's way of practicing medicine:
1. She Takes Time. Every single time we go in for a visit, she is willing to stay and talk with me about whatever my concerns are. She really listens, not doing that doctor thing of filling out paperwork while I talk. One time, she had another important appointment but she called me later that evening to finish our conversation. When my two year old had a seizure with a high fever (PSA: this is very common and totally fine, keep that in the back of your mind when it happens to your kid and you are quite understandably freaking out), she called me on my cell phone within minutes of our admission to the ER at Cedars. I guess she has some kind of magical way of knowing when one of her patients is admitted there.
2. She's Laid Back. When my second was born, he had a crumpled ear. Another pediatrician recommended a plastic surgeon who apparently specializes in baby ears. (So LA, right?!) The next day, when Dr. Grinberg visited us in the hospital, she took one look at the ear and waved if off, saying that it would resolve within weeks. Sure enough, it did.
3. She's a Mom. She has three boys. Which means she's basically a superhero. With that superheroism comes savvy tips on how to keep kids from picking their noses (Vaseline/Aquaphor), sneaky ways of getting kids to agree to shots ("It's up to you: do you want to get two shots or three shots?"), and perhaps most importantly, real empathy for the stresses and joys of parenthood.
4. She Knows Her Medicine. I'm not a doctor but I'm really very good at diagnosing stuff on the internet. (Really, I am!) But she's the real thing. For example, my toddler, who had previously battles with eczema had a really bad flare and she instantly recognized that it was not eczema but some eczemic form of hand foot and mouth disease. I thankfully have pretty healthy kids, so I haven't had many occasions to test out the breadth of her knowledge. However, she skillfully explains medical issues to me as they arise.
5. She Believes in Vaccines. The primary reason I chose Beverly Hills Pediatrics was that it was the only practice that my friends had recommended that didn't advertise that it's willing to not vaccinate kids. I believe in vaccines, I want my kids around other vaccinated kids whenever possible, and I want to support doctors that encourage their patients to get vaccines.
While that may have been my initial reason for going to the practice, I lucked into an amazing doctor. I feel like my kids are her favorite patients whenever we're there, but I have the sneaking suspicion that everyone feels like that. (Note that there is an annual "administrative fee" for being a part of the practice. I don't love that, but I suck it up and pay because the doctors are so generous with their time when we need it.) read more
