Derrick is a wonderful teacher, friend and mentor to the all of the students. By leading thru example, he shows them the results of hard work and a positive attitude. Derrick is a delightful man, yet strict--a very hard combination--which he nails effortlessly. Though the teaching and guidance from Master Derrick, my son has learned discipline, respect, technique and poise. Also: The schedule is easy to work with. The prices are reasonable. The studio is well kept. The parking is easy--even though there is no parking lot, we rarely have trouble finding a parking space.

I came by Ray's Tae Kwon Do recently because I was a former student many years ago. During my moves…read morethroughout the years, I lost my black belt (1st Dan) certificate and I also did not have the black belt itself anymore. So I contacted Master Ray to see if there was a way I could get replacements for both as getting a black belt is a difficult endeavor taking a lot of effort and hard work...especially when I was 10 years old when I got it. Thankfully I found out I am able to. I got fitted for a new belt and I had to fill out a form to send to get a copy. As I was there I felt a lot of nostalgia...I spent years exercising, working, sweating, fighting at the school. I felt proud of this early accomplishment and reflected on how my time at this school gave me the discipline and courage that helped me become the man I am today. This is what this school and tae kwon do teaches and provides: That with enough dedication and self confidence you can accomplish any goal you set out to do...as long as you have the drive and dedication to earn it. I owe this school and Master Ray a lot for these early lessons. He's a great man teaching an amazing school.

There are pics all over the walls that display the Grand Master's history and depth. I believe they also opened another location somewhere on 157th ave and miller area? Either way this school teaches not only the foundations and functionality of TaeKwonDo but also the culture and history. There is even etiquette for children to learn to build character and respect. They offer classes cutely titled "Little Tigers" for ages 4-6yo. Then for kids 7 years of age and older and as well as adult classes. The class that always seems to be packed the most if the Family Class is that family and kids all mixed into one! The dojo is fully functional with many pads, helmets, and anything else you could think of to ensure your kids safety. The teachers and instructors here are very well-trained and really know their stuff! The dojo offers 3 classes on Saturday mornings for those that are unable to attend during the week and is also closed on Sundays.

A gifted instructor, yes--but more importantly, someone who loves Tae Kwon Do with every fiber of his being, and somehow loves his students even more. He has a way of seeing where you're at--whether you're a kid just starting out, a parent training alongside your child, or someone like me still clawing toward that black belt--and meeting you there with patience, encouragement, and discipline. I've signed up my son for various extra curricular activities and it's always felt as if he was a burden. However, with just a few classes here, my son is so excited! He's confident and using the different techniques throughout his day. Mr. Diego, Ms. Fatima and Mr. Tristan are just amazing! I've sat during the classes and they are so patient yet push each student to their own abilities. I cannot recommend this enough!! As for COVID, they are very good about cleaning hands, temp. checks, and keeping the kids separate during class, all while wearing masks. I've gone to other martial arts locations in the area and it was not the right spot for us... however, Better Families is amazing! Please please please, just give this place a try!
