This place is horrible! They do not care about any of the animals! My son bought two fuzzies(mice) for his ball python. The day after the snake ate them he became lethargic and his scales became dark red. He was having a hard time breathing. My son held him and he died in my sons hands. I called your Fisher location and asked about purchasing Grayson the Frenchie, I was told he was gone. I asked the person on the phone if she knew if any other stores had any frenchies and she told me she didn't know and I'm welcome to call them all myself because she couldn't. Talk about rude customer service..... I flew in on 8/12 and leaving 8/14, I did my research on what a great reputation Uncle Bills has and thought it was gonna be great... After dinner tonight I wanted my nephew to See Uncle Bills, so I took my nephew to your location tonight and met Julie who spoke to us and explained to my nephew about the responsibility of owning a puppy and she showed us Jackson, she made us feel welcome. Julie showed me and my nephew who is now living here for school now that Uncle Bills does have good people, especially this location. Julie, connected with us and I felt great. They also carry rabbits, guinea pigs, parakeets, canaries, baby Quaker parrots, fish and puppies. Please, please, please adopt/rescue your puppies as I have instead of purchasing from a puppy mill. Uncle Bill's was asking $500 for mixed breed puppies. That's a lot of rescues. Please adopt/rescue your pets and if you need supplies, fish or aquariums Uncle Bill's has it. Poor care of animals. Inhuman even to feeder animals. Stagnant water. Put feeder mice in a paper bag (and acted like they wouldn't chew threw the bag. Then put medium rat in a box with no air holes and taped it up- may be a feeder animal but they are inhumane. We never use this uncle bills location really hut the few times we have have been horrible. Improper care- we have bought animals and sold them just to get them out of the poor conditions of this store. We went to buy turtle food and it had maggots (live) in it (it was a pellet food that was sealed) God only knows how long this food had been sitting there. The conditions are horrible. Uncle Bill's has a nice selection of pet supplies - from food, to "clothing," toys, and other pet accessories. But unfortunately, I also found it to be one of those standard, depressing, pet stores. The dogs in the back were in crates with urine-soaked newspapers lining the bottom, and the whole place just seemed a bit dirty. I called this location to ask if they sold male rats. They said that they only carry male rats. Great, since I was wanting two male rats. Let me start by saying that I have owned several rats in my lifetime. None from Uncle Bills. I went in two weeks ago to purchase two male rats. When I got to the store they brought out a box with 6 rats who were WAY too small to be weaned from their mother. I asked if they were males and the lady said, "yes, we only carry males." I said okay and picked out two rats. Once I brought the two rats home, I started to notice that they were sneezing. Which is normal for them to catch a cold under stress. Usually this cold only lasts a week or so. Going on two weeks (two days ago), one of my rats started walking with its head sideways. This means it has an inner ear infection that most likely spawns from a respiratory infection. Both rats have a respiratory infection. Thankfully I have antibiotics that I just put them on. (Hopefully the damage isn't permanent for them). On top of that, they're BOTH FEMALES!!! Twice I asked and got the same response which didn't correlate to the truth. I am extremely disappointed and will not support this mill breeding company again. Wish I could give one star. Neglect to animals is the prime reason why. read more

I came here to check out some cat supplies. Walked around and saw some puppies in small cages. I asked a couple of employees if the puppies came from puppy mills. They say "they came from respected breeders" I asked again " Are they puppy mill breeders?" She just stared at me and gave a little smirk, so I took that as a "yes, they are puppy mill puppies" I'm very ashamed of Indiana that would allow pet shop owners to buy puppies from puppy mills. And I'm very ashamed at the owners for buying puppies from puppies mills knowing full well what HORRIFIC condition these dogs endure. PLEASE , PLEASE, PLEASE RESCUE DOGS FROM A SHELTER. I'll be calling the humane society and have them check out the small cages these poor puppies are kept in. For anyone who wants to adopt a cat/dog... there is a rescue group in Washington Mall, right buy Target. Check them out. I got my adult cat there. Also, I couldn't believe they have BBB. The BBB should really check this store out more often considering they have live animals. read more

I will never come back to this place ever again thanks to the manager Jessica. I was in a hurry and had several things to do today. It took a good ten minutes for the sales guy to bag up the 100 large crickets I requested. By the time I made it to the register the girl checking me out had the nerve to look at a bag of approx 100 crickets and say that's more than 100 and sent them back. When I said I didn't have time for this she told them never mind he doesn't want them and told them to put them all back. She was basically treating me like I was trying to steal them. When I asked for the highest manager she claimed it was her and just got ruder. She has absolutely no regard or concern for her customers. It seemed to be more about pulling rank on her associates and proving how accurate she is at counting 100 crickets in a bag mixed with pieces of egg carton- and all just by eyeballing it. Give me a break! This is my worst exchange with a retail associate ever. This is so unacceptable and after shopping here loyally for 10 years I can promise you I will never ever step inside another uncle bills store again. They care more about some 10 cent crickets than they do their customers. read more

I visited and there were 2 teens watching I don't know how many animals with super high prices that had poop and urine all over their cages and all over them. The poor babies were begging for anyone to pay attention to them, I wanted to stroll threw childhood memories of pet stores instead I left in tears trying to find ways to help the victims this God awful place uses to get rich! This place honestly just gives me so much anxiety.. everyone who works here just kind of expects you to know where to find what you need, and seems confused when you need help. The first time I came, the manager went and got my mouse. The next time, the cashier said "oh, you have to go back there..." and kinda waved her hand towards the rear of the store then asked someone to go get one for me. Third time, the girl said "was there no one back there?" and described the guy I needed to ask for help. This was literally the first time anyone has told me specifically where I was supposed to go to get them. This is the only place I've been able to find live feeders, and it is 20 minutes from my house. If it weren't for the fact that I refuse to feed my snake frozen mice, I wouldn't bother coming back. As if a 20-minute drive with a live mouse isn't bad enough...oh and of course they're currently sold out. And I understand why the baby mice are about the same price as the adults, but I'm not paying $6 for 3 live animals when normally I would just buy one and be done with it. read more

I went there recently to get a beta fish for my office. I was surprised at the selection of supplies, but so so underwhelmed by the condition of the animals. The dog cages were filthy. Almost all of the small animal cages smelled horrible. The fish tanks were in the worse condition I've seen in any pet store. The puppies looked so sad. I've heard rumors of puppy mill dogs being sold there and sadly, I believe it. Not to mention, the employees (minus the cashier) were very rude. I'm an aquarium guy so I can't comment on dogs, cats , etc. I find their deals really good here. I've made quite a few African cichlid purchases from them over the years and they've all done really well and lived a long time. The tank section could be spruced up a bit but it's not too bad and they really do have some very good prices. Cichlids look better than the Reef and for a LOT LESS $$. Staff's always been nice to me too. I've never purchased salt water fish from them , so I can comment on that. read more

I recently purchased a puppy from uncle bills and was grossly over charged. I felt so awful for the dogs there, I asked an employee if they have ever been outside? The answer was no. I asked her how they exercise them? She replied "sometimes we let them run around the store" I asked where they went potty she said "in their kennels" I felt so terrible I adopted a puppy from here. She was the sweetest thing, loveable, cute, and seemily happy. When we got home we realized potty training was almost impossible as they are used to defecating where they sleep. After conquering that- a few days went by and the puppy became more aggressive, especially around good and water. I've had this puppy under a week and it has attacked me, my other dog, and it is so possessive over food, toys, floor space etc.. I'm afraid of getting bit by the puppy. I did not purchase the pet assurance, and cannot return her as a seasoned pet owner this is extremely odd behavior- puppies generally acclimate to their new homes and are eager to please. I believe because of the treatment of the animals. It is making the dogs there violent and unmanageable. read more

They wanted $1,800 for a boxer. This dog literally pooped in front of me and ate it. I asked about another $1,800 boxer and they were unwilling to negotiate 1 cent lower than list. If i could give 0 stars, i would. I bought a ball python from uncle bills that i was told was a yearling (1-2 years old) that feeds regularly and was healthy. After the first time i tried to feed him and i could hear him wheezing, I was worried he had a respiratory infection. I took him to an exotic vet, which mind you is RIDICULOUSLY expensive, to find out that he is not only very unhealthy and underweight, but he has severe irreversible nerve damage on his whole tongue. The vet told me he is very underweight, dehydrated, lost his ability to smell and will probably never feed on his own again. I had to buy a mouse with the snake just to get a ONE WEEK warranty that expired before i was even able to take him to the vet. I will now have to take him once a week to the vet to be force fed so that he doesnt starve to death. I will never go back to uncle bills for any animal or even animal related product. read more

I went there to check out there hedgehogs and saw horrible things. There hedgehogs were in an air conditioned room, but hedgehogs belong In a 72-80 degree environment. They were completely un-socialized. The price they were asking was way to high, most hedgehogs cost 150-200 and they were charging 350. Not only did I see the hedgehogs in horrible condition but the dogs were laying in there own urine and it smelt horrid. I do not support this pet store at all. read more

My girlfriend bought a dog here. The dog was cute but we had concerns on whether it would get along with our current dog or not. She's an English bully who is stubborn in her ways but we gave it a chance. After a day we noticed our bulldog getting more aggressive and eventually getting angry with my girlfriend and the new pet. When my girlfriend went to take back the dog she had just bought from Uncle bills they treated her rudely and acted like it was her fault. Now my girlfriend is feeling awful and I just can't understand why uncle bills does not offer a full refund after less than 24 hours especially if it was a hard decision enough. Another sketchy thing they did was tell my girlfriend the dog was $900 and then when she purchased the dog two days later they had "made a mistake" and actually sold her the dog for 1000 instead. I've never been a fan of uncle Bills as they play on people's emotions with the doggie in the window act. Go to the Humane Society or a private owner if you want a dog, at least they have more decency. read more

I purchased a hedgehog at this store. I loved my little Brillo and took excellent care of him. A little over a year after getting him I woke up one morning to find him trying to drag himself around his cage. It seemed his back legs were paralyzed and he wasn't eating. I rushed him to an exotic vet clinic. They ran some tests and it turned out he had leukemia ( I know its weird to think they can get leukemia) and that it was localized in his legs. They told me he was suffering, it was only going to get worse and they advised I should put him down. They told me to never buy a hedgehog from a place like Uncle Bills where hedgehogs are not breed for good genes or health. They said he was most likely inbred by people with little training or concern for animals and that places like Uncle Bills will give breeders a quick buck to keep pumping out hedgehogs to keep their store stocked. Looking at the other reviews it seems all animals there might be that way. If you're looking for a hedgehog then save yourself the anguish and heartbreak that I went through and go to a reputable breeder. read more

I bought a convict cichlid and a flowerhorn cichlid on Saturday April 28th. Brought them home and later that night they had no appetite (figured it was from stress) then I see these white speckles floating around and they were sticking to my fish! They have ich! A parasite known to stick to fish and sick their blood. The guy there didn't even know how to pronounce "cichlid" and he grabbed water from the wrong tank and wasn't very helpful at all!! I do not reccomend getting fish from here! Only reason I will go there is for Dubia Roaches and they didn't even have roaches in stock there that day either. read more

Very sad, sick/dead fish, dirty tanks, could not see into the tanks, poor fish selection. I miss having a good LFS. The one on Allisonville Rd is better but still I would rate as a 2 maximum. This Uncle Bills on west 38th has got to be my favorite place for anything pet and animal related! They have everything covered and the staff/management are EXTREMELY helpful, positive, and knowledgeable about their products. Plus, the selection of freshwater and salt water fish are the best in the city. I have just went inside the store recently for my first time and was greeted in a friendly manner by more than one associate, and everyone working there always had a smile. Their dogs were kept up nicely and clean, as well as all the other animals, and looked like everything has been taken with the utmost care. I feel very comfortable that they are in this type of environment rather than having dogs on the streets or at the pound! I WILL be returning to the store and telling more people about the positive experience! Keep up the good work Uncle Bills! read more
