Had to take one of my feral cats he had a bladder infection and was about to pop. Dr Kiefer was about 20 minutes before he was leaving but the amazing Doctor he is he stayed to help my cat. Needless to say two days later my feral cat is now an indoor cat because he's on special food so this doesn't happen to him again. Best vet in town PERIOD. My adult feral turned fabulous rescue cat started acting abnormally. Took her to our now previous vet and they ran very expensive tests and had no clue what's wrong. I asked if she could be in heat and they said that she's spayed per report. I read online some have bad spays with remnant ovarian tissue. So they offered me an ultrasound for 500 dollars and then surgery for another 500 dollars. I asked "can't u just shave to confirm if she was spayed?!!!". I went ahead and called my friend who recommended Dr Kieffer. She sees him and loves his care for her cats and large animals. Dr K got me in the very next business day. He was so respectful, attentive and kind. Listened to me then did a thorough exam. He then shaved her abdomen to confirm her spay scar and ran vaginal cytology to confirm she's in heat. Did not ask for any money at the end of the visit and said that it looks like she is in heat and even showed me the cornified vaginal cells confirming that she is indeed was in heat. He said we'll settle the bill after surgery. He then scheduled her for surgery the very next day during a snowstorm!!! He knew how stressful being in heat was on my cat and I, especially since she was spraying in our brand new house. Dr K took her in on the day of the surgery, with a very calming demeanor explained the procedure to me and promised me to call as soon as she's done. Dr K knows our pets are not just cats and dogs! He called me and resssured me and confirmed that he found the ovarian remnant stuck to her mesentery and safely removed it and ligated the vessels. My cat recovered beautifully, she's back to her normal self and it meant the WORLD for me that he called daily to check in even on his day off! This vet is pure GOLD. They don't make vets like him anymore. Experienced, kind, terrific clinician and a through and through master of his trade. He is very conscious of veterinary expenses and avoids any expensive or unnecessary testing or medications. HE CARES! He's in it because he's amazing at it and loves animals. Love him. Love his staff. They all wore a mask and practiced COVID-19 precautions. I felt safe and so was my cat. read more

We started bringing our dogs here on the advice of neighbors. Dr. Kiefer is the most careful and thorough diagnostician I've ever seen. Imagine doing an ophthalmic exam on a puppy! He did this to help understand why our pet might be having seizures. Ultimately, he provided a potential list of causes and we waited it out and the seizures resolved, avoiding expensive tests that would probably have been fruitless. On another occasion when we took the same dog for limping, he carefully and calmly maneuvered the front leg to determine that it was a shoulder strain. Steroids cleared it up. He explained the kind of activity that might've led to this (chasing squirrels around the wood pile!) and how to limit those activities until puppy had healed. He also explained what future diagnostic tests and treatments might be necessary and the potential expense of those. Basically Dr. Kiefer is a careful, skilled veterinarian who's Communication skills are top notch. Also,prices are very reasonable. We will be switching to him full-time for our veterinary care. read more

Dr. Frank Kiefer is a very good friend of the family and has been for 22 years. This would be one of the reasons that we know we can always trust him to take the best care of any of our animals. The staff he's got working with him are awesome! Margie, Cathy and Tenel, are all extremely helpful to all of their clients and I know personally that they take exceptional care of each and every animal that walks thought their doors every day. A lot of people aren't aware of how many lives that are saved by this hospital on a daily basis. Margie is always finding stray dogs and cats and bringing them into the vet so they can be fixed up and they stay their until they find a new home. People are forever dumping litters of kittens on their doorsteps almost on a weekly basis. They keep the kittens, get them all their vaccines, spay/neuter them, and they also stay until their new family comes to find them. Another way that lives are saves, and I have seen this first hand now, is when people bring their pets in and demand they be put to sleep because they don't want them anymore, and for no other reason than that. They aren't sick, injured, or ill, they just don't want they animal for whatever reason. Kiefer will flat out say NO, and tell them he will keep their animal and find a responsible and loving owner for them. He will never euthanize an animal unless it is absolutely necessary. Kiefer is also a big Pit Bull advocate. He used to own one of his own, that he loved dearly. He loves my own little pittie Novy, and he's taken wonderful care of both of my sister's pit bulls that I've taken in to him when they've needed vaccines or when they have been ill. He would never adopt out any of the stray pit bulls, the ones he saves, takes care of and loves, to anyone that he thought would potentially abuse or fight the dog. I would highly recommend Frank to anyone and everyone because of how great he actually get to know people and their animals on personal level, which makes for better trips to the vet. We have been using Georgetown Animal Hospital for around 40 years for various dogs we have had. Have always had good results there. They also do grooming and nail trims. He did surgery on my greyhound a few years ago to remove a tumor on his paw and we got good results. My sister and I just LOVE Dr. Kiefer!!! From the first cat when I was sixteen and throughout the numerous pets ever since, Doc has treated our babies with the utmost patience, care and concern. Even through financial problems, he has always worked with me to give my babies the best care. He has the gentlest voice easing my babies' fears and settling them during the examination, but he also settles my nerves as well. He has the greatest patience and his compassion is beyond belief. I've had to put several pets down over the years. He is upfront but very considerate of your feelings. My fur babies are my kids,. Doc is very considerate and compassionate. What vet sends a note to you after you've had put your pet down saying they donated to the Purdue Veterinary Medicine in your pet's name? And his staff, well, they are great too! We adopted our dog from a shelter and when we got him he was very skinny. Dr. Kiefer was very helpful with tips on how to help him with his weight and overall care. We loved that we could take our dog in for his routine vet visits AND a hair cut. We unfortunately stopped coming here because we moved closer to downtown and it was too far of a drive. Love this place! The doctor is so gentle with my yorkie shitzu mix, my pup was at ease when I brought her in to get her teeth cleaned. I also use the groomer, she is fantastic as well. Vet review: awesome!!! Love dr Kiefer, he's very knowledgeable, gentle, and caring. I also like that for blood draws and shots they do it in the room in front of you instead of taking them to a back area, and their prices are very reasonable..... Grooming review: ok, but not great. I figured our dog would have to be shaved, but I was still disappointed they totally shaved him extremely short instead of just trying to cut out his little mats and not totally shave him all the way down, like i specifically said i REALLY didn't want. I also asked if nail trimming was included and was told yes and not to worry about specifically asking the groomer for that, however when I got my dog home he very obviously had nothing done to his nails and is still very scratchy with us :( I also asked for a price estimate and was told $45 at the most since we have a smaller dog- it ended up being $60, which is more what I am used to paying for dogs with longer fluffy fur, but it is irritating that I was told with 100% surety after asking 3 times if they were confident that it would be no more than $45. Overall a very good place to take your pet for vet care, but maybe double check other places for grooming solely because of the miscommunications we dealt with. read more

I called before coming to ask if they did cat nail trims and they told me they do, so I brought my 4 month old kitten to get his nails trimmed and the woman brought him back to me and told me they couldn't trim his nails because he was biting and scratching and they couldn't cut his nails!! I'm a college student and always busy so my time is very valuable and I was really hoping to start coming there all the time but unfortunately they're unprofessional and can't complete a simple task. read more

This practice may love and adore animals for anyone who has been there before, but getting in the door is difficult. After making several attempts to get in, the receptionist was short - "the doctor is not in today" - like I'm supposed to have known it. She immediately thought my concern was an "emergency" without asking me any questions - quick "bad" judgement. When I said I was looking for a new vet anyway, her response was "the cat can't wait until Saturday, you have to take him to an emergency center". Well, I'll find another practice that's actually interested in discussing the situation before snapping to a bad response. read more

I had no idea what a neighborhood treasure we had in Dr. Kiefer and the great staff at Georgetown Animal Hospital until recently. We had been driving a great distance to take Princess to her original vet in the suburbs, only to have that vet completely mis-diagnose her aggressive cancer as an infected gland. By the time we obtained a second opinion from Dr. Kiefer 2 weeks later, it was too late to intervene and the cancer was terminal. Dr. Kiefer gave us care and feeding instructions that allowed us to enjoy the maximum remaining time possible with Princess, and then was compassionate in the way he handled our visit when it was time to say our final goodbye to Princess. His staff was unfailingly caring and professional whenever we came in to get the food Dr. Kiefer prescribed for Princess. Also, I love that they work so hard to find homes for abandoned kitties, as Princess and her littermates started life as abandoned strays. While we aren't quite ready yet, it is a given fact that our next furbaby will be seeing Dr. Kiefer on a regular basis. read more

I took every Pet there for many years, well I brought my 1 year old havanse puppy there in January and she was coughing. I spent money getting her checked out, the doctor did nothing but gave me medicine and said "she has a cough that's it". A few days passed and she started coughing up blood. We took her up the the vet again and the doctor gave us some pills, and Dr. Keefer, I believe that's his name, didn't do anything once again. A two week passed and it just got worse. So we take her then again and finally he checks her out and finds out that there was something wrong with her blood cells. He runs test, and and gives he steriods. And said take her home and bring her back tomorrow. We were sleeping and she spit up blood, took her to the vet and died. All I have to say is the hat they are VERY LAZY...AND WILL NEVER TAKE AN ANIMAL TO A RUSH TO A DOG. read more

I've had my pets all treated by Dr Keifer for the last almost 25 years and I can't imagine going to anyone else. He's extremely knowledgeable, staying on the forefront of the latest medical advances. He is so good with the dogs that you know his heart is in it as much and probably more than his wallet. I take both my dog and cat to Dr. Kiefer. I have also recommended him to my son who takes his cats and dogs to him also and he likes Dr. Kiefer and recommends him to his friends as well. I brought my dog home from the breeder when she was 9 weeks old and took her to Dr. Kiefer right away for her puppy shots and well check. Dr. Kiefer told me on the first visit that there was something that didn't look just right with her eyes and said it could possibly be allergies. I was in denial and didn't want to believe anything could possibly be wrong with my new little pup because I didn't want to consider returning her for another puppy from another breeder. Low and behold now 3 years later my girl has severe food allergies and almost died from them before she was 12 months old. Dr. Keifer has also been very truthful and frank on another visit to him just recently that I once again did not want to accept. When I talked to my son about how I felt about the advise he reminded me that my particular dog's breed has had some very irresponsible breeders with too much inbreeding which is causing the negative characteristics of this breed. Once again I have to admit that Dr. Kiefer's advise is right on the money as much as I would like to be in denial of it. Yes, I do rate his expertise 5 star out of 5 stars. My wife and I decided to take our new puppy to the Georgetown Animal Hospital after receiving a recommendation from a colleague of mine who also had the same breed of dog as us. My colleague stressed that they were "good people", and very good at their job. Unfortunately, this was not the experience that we had. From the beginning, we had a bad experience. After taking our new puppy to the Georgetown Animal Hospital for shots, they screwed up our billing. The billing issue wasn't a big deal, but was just the first negative experience that we had at the Georgetown Animal Hospital. The billing issue was eventually resolved, but only after we brought it to their attention on multiple occasions. The tipping point came after we took our puppy there to be spayed. I dropped off our dog in the morning before work, at which time I mentioned that my wife would likely be picking up our dog after she got off work later that day. At that time, I asked if they would provide an Elizabethan collar to protect our dog from harming herself after the surgery. The employee at Georgetown Animal Hospital confirmed that we would be provided such a collar, and would only be charged in the event that we didn't return it to their business. As a result, I felt comfortable leaving our dog in their care, and trusted that they would provide post-surgical instruction to my wife later that afternoon. Unfortunately, they failed to provide quality service in this regard. My wife picked up our dog after work, at which time she received no post-surgical instructions nor did the employees at the Georgetown Animal Hospital offer her an Elizabethan collar to protect our dog from licking or biting at her sutures. In addition, the Georgetown Animal Hospital only used 5 or 6 sutures that looked very loose. As a result of the quality of stitching and lack of post-surgical instruction, our dog's sutures failed and her incision opened up to expose her insides. My wife and I quickly rushed our dog to a 24-hour emergency animal hospital, where she received excellent care. They used 8 or 9 sutures to close her incision compared to the 5 or 6 used by the Georgetown Animal Hospital. The sutures also looked much tighter. Additionally, the 24-hour emergency hospital also provided us with a checklist of post-surgical care instructions along with an Elizabethan collar. We followed their instructions and kept the collar on our dog for the recommended 10 days, after which her incision healed nicely. After our experience at the Georgetown Animal Hospital, we decided to write them a letter in order to demand payment for the cost that we incurred taking our dog to the 24-hour emergency animal hospital as a result of the poor quality of the service they provided us. To our surprise, we received a nasty letter in response from Dr. Frank Kiefer. He explicitly denied every aspect of our experience as we explained in the letter that we sent him. Finally, he threatened legal action on the basis of "slander" if we were to report this issue. Obviously, his legal threats were viewed without merit, as we are now taking the first of many steps to make everyone aware of our experience so they can potentially avoid a similar experience. read more

I came to this vet because family members of mine have brought their pets to georgetown animal hospital before. I would rather go somewhere I feel comfortable knowing my family has been there over a place i never even heard of. So I was expecting outstanding service. What I received was a attiude problem from the desk clerk who was more interested in receving a payment than answering any questions I had. Also when i got my cat back he was soaked in urine and they just put him on the floor of the vets office instead of waiting til i got a chance to get to him. After I told the lady she needed better customer service skills she lashed out calling me fat and I was wasting her time. I left almost in tears only to get followed out of the animal hospital to my car for her to continue to tell me to not come back all over a disagreement of an animal I cared about and wish that she showed more empathy rather than trying to get me to go away. She called Dr. keifer to try and get some kind of I'm not sure "backbone" from him to allow her to say such things or tell to her what to do. Dr. Keifer was uninterested in what she had to say and basiclly told her to handle the situation. And I guess thats what she deamed appropriate. I will never go back to this animal hospital. And not only have they lost and future business with me, but they lost long time patiences of theirs as well due to this incident. I would have rather stood in line at a face clinic all day then deal with this. read more
