such a fun place to visit while walking around prospect park. it's good to know beforehand that they are cash-only. they have such a large selection of ice cream and italian ice that i totally recommend this spot. i've been there a few times, and all their flavors are really good. they have a small seating corner and are only a 10-minute walk from the park. last time i tried the nutella ice cream, which was creamy, and it had a strong flavor and good consistency. i also heard good things about the italian ices i haven't tried them yet, but i'll definitely be back. read more

This place is an amazing place on the side of prospect to grab some ice cream! It had the vibes of an upstate ice cream shop but in the middle of Brooklyn. Super family and dog friendly and it even says dogs eat for free! Any place with those values deserve a 5 stars for me! It's near this Italian restaurant too so you can order a sandwich with your ice cream if you're coming here as a salty tooth instead of wanting ice cream if you arrive in a group. There's lots of tables and chairs available and there isn't any cover so on rainy days it probably won't work out but it's a super friendly and popular place for families. I recently had one of those "I Can't Believe That I Didn't Review This Place" moments when I went to check-I'm during a recent visit. I frequent this particular location throughout the summer months because it's not open all year round. It's about a 30-minute walk through Prospect Park and less than 10-minute car ride for me. Over the years, they have added more tables while becoming more dog friendly; they now offer doggie ice cream. They have also steadily been expanding their menu by adding new flavors and ice cream creations. My first love was Birthday Cake Ice Cream but I occasionally cheat with a Passion Fruit Slushie. I would say that the new flavor on the block Apple Pie Ice Cream has become my second wife. In as much as they have changes with the times, some core things have thankfully remained the same. Everything that I have tried tasted great. The customer service is great; they are very patient and generous with the samples. They maintain their old school ice cream parlor vibe behind the counter. They are still CASH ONLY. Through some cash in your Fanny pack and jog on over to try some creamy ice cream goodness before they close for the year on November 1st. read more

I love this local ice cream spot. There is so many flavors you can choose from and a flavor for everyone even your classics. It is a cash only facility so be mindful to that but I don't mind it love the old school cash only. Anyways back to the ice cream it's this outdoor window booth ordering style. They were very kind and quick I got the cherry vanilla flavor it was so good I love the pieces of cherry every bite was so good on a nice warm fall day. So much fun to eat here. Lots of ice cream and ice. Dozens of flavors for each. Many vegan ice choices and a few vegan ice cream selections. The staff is very friendly and family-owned. Dog friendly. Bring your puppy for some free ice cream. My favorite ice flavors are pistachio, bubble gum, and cotton candy. They will sell by the pint or quart, too Kosher dairy. Large sitting area. Get some Italian from piccolo next store and wash it down with dessert here. Hit up prospect park across the street. Free street parking. Some times and days are easy some others are hard. This place is like the Cheers of ice cream/ices places. It is a neighborhood spot through and through (where sometimes everyone knows your name). Since we've moved to the hood, we'll take strolls around the mini loop in the park. And then stop in to Louie G for some ice. Or we'll just take a stroll with the dog to Louie G without the big walk. It's just one of those places that makes this part of Brooklyn feel like a small town. There's a huge variety of flavors for both ice cream and ices. The biggest problem is narrowing down which flavor you want. I typically get the ices. It doesn't matter which flavor I've had--everything's really smooth. There's no ice chunks or inconsistency. It's far better than the place across the highway when it comes to consistency. Staff is a bunch of HS/college kids. They're nice and will let you sample whatever. It is a bit slow but I think it's because there's often a long line and rarely more than two people behind the counter. Everyone's very friendly, though you're more likely to catch them in a conversation when it's slow (and rightfully so). As everyone's mentioned, there's a ton of seating. You'll see couples and families coming for ice creams and ices. It's also dog-friendly. (Everyone that works there pretty much adores dogs.) Since I am lactose intolerant, cold & creamy confections have always been a big no-no. Sure, they make those chalky pills, but those effectively kill whatever appetite I had going, so Uncle Louie G's is my answer. Most places that carry italian ice only have four or five flavors. Uncle Louie G has over 30, consistently. Not only that, but the ices here are extremely low in calories. A small is between 50 and 90, a large tops out at 145, and you could get a pint of any flavor and the most it could be is 350. I don't really like to count calories, but that's awesome! After a bunch of hard laps in the park, I love riding over to Uncle Louie G's to cool off and have a little treat that won't negate my workout. I don't know what their secret is, but whatever they do to make these ices, they're doing a great job. I have tried most of the flavors on the board and all of them taste great. I had a bad run through Prospect Park (they tell me to stop running when my foot goes numb but do I listen? of course not) and ended up going a 1/2 mile too far around the park* and coming out at a corner I wasn't familiar with. So what do I do? I treat myself to the random Louie G's on the corner. For the most part, I'd expect the law that requires these places to have calorie information on the menu would have put them out of business long ago. Fifteen hundred calories in a large shake? Wow. But the large ices they tell me are only 150 calories at most -- well, hell, I can certainly justify that. So I ordered the chocolate peanut butter and, from what I can tell, Louie G made a deal with the devil. I'm quite convinced there are real chunks of peanut butter cup in there and the ice only really tasted like ice on one bite; for the rest of the time it tasted close enough to ice cream for me. As long as I stick with the ice, this is a great summer cooldown option. * - Those that know me will find this HI-larious. read more

Uncle Louie G made a pact with the devil to achieve non-ice cream confections that taste this good. It is the only explanation for why something that is mostly water and sugar somehow works. You can try all the flavors you want but the best ices are anything peanut related, especially peanut butter cookie dough and Holy Cannoli. The fruit flavors are just too similar to some cheap saccharine sweet thing at a bodega. So skip 'em! I found the ice cream pretty disappointing (blame the ice cream snob in me), but it tasted not at all fresh and the air content was far too high and was reminiscent of Breyer's or another overly sweet air-laced brand. But why would you get ice cream, when this place is famous for it's Italian Ice? Even though this chain is only a few years old (1999, to be exact), it maintains a very authentic Brooklynesque feel. read more

Ice cream is ice cream. What makes this place great is the location. It's directly across from Prospect Park and they have a lot seating--about 1,000 square feet. I talked the owner when they were setting up for summer this year and he said he's making some improvements such as wood benches in an area covered by an awning (which is great because this spot gets sunny!) and he's adding an area for kids to play.
