A Sweet Surprise in Dunellen! After living in the area for over 20 years, I finally stopped by this local ice cream shop--and I'm honestly blown away. I've visited twice now and each time has been better than the last. The shop is under new ownership, and Mike (the new owner) is awesome. Super friendly, easy to talk to, and clearly passionate about making this place special. You can feel the good vibes as soon as you walk in. I've never really been into Italian ice, but this place completely changed my mind. The flavors are bold and refreshing--Cappuccino and Mudslide are my personal favorites. Rich, smooth, and packed with flavor. And here's the cherry on top: they welcome your furry friends and even offer a complimentary pup cup to go. Both my dogs were very happy--and let's be honest, that made me even happier. Knowing that this was nearby, I took my daughters after their ice skating lesson to try some of my favorite ice creams from a franchise I frequented when growing up. The owner was thoughtful and patient, even though we were indecisive. He made sure we were happy with our choices and was genuinely excited to make sure my girls enjoyed everything. Horrible. This place is severely lacking in customer service. I've only met one of the owners I believe his name is Mike. The ice cream is good, Mike however is another story, he was not not very pleasant towards me. There all these reviews about how pleasant and welcoming and warm he is - well, I can't say the same for myself because I actually experienced the opposite. I didn't feel any warmness or welcoming from the moment I got in the door. The customer service alone is what has turned me off to this place. I also have to note that it seems that Mike picks and chooses who he's pleasant to and as far as I'm concerned a customer is a customer, is a customer. As I was ordering Italian ice, the owner started to ask me very political questions. He said people shouldn't be mad at him if he misgenders them and he will call them whatever they look like. He also said "if a white man says he identifies as a black woman should he now get reparations?!" and pressed me to answer that..Then went on to say that LGBT+ people are indoctrinating kids to change their gender... if you are LGBT+ or part of a minority group, I would recommend going somewhere else. However, the young girl working the counter could tell I was made uncomfortable and she was very sweet and did a great job getting my items for me. read more

I give you Holi Cannoli Italian Ice! Scoff if you want, laugh even, but when you can TASTE the powdered sugar as you are eating the ice, there is something magical going on here. Uncle Louie G's have been around the greater NY area for years, but their brand new invasion into the LBI area, close to the causeway, is astoundingly good, cheap and you can go back every night of your vacation and have something different, either in Ice Cream or their beyond description Italian Ice. If you wish to relive the days of squeezing the ice out of your cup, they have both kinds of containers, the squeezable and non-squeezable kinds. Standard flavors for the less adventurous ice cream eater sit beside flavors like Bada Bing Cherry Vanilla (no marachinos here) and Mint Condition Chocolate Chip. I have to give a special shout out to their ices, flavors like Vanilla Peanut Butter with Chocolate Covered Pretzels (yes, that's one flavor) and of course, Creamolata (if you don't get it, don't get it) and Holi Cannoli. It's a generic ice cream plus. Their advantage was being open later than the others. The chocolate peanut butter didn't have much PB flavor.

I was pretty excited to visit this place since we don't have "real" Italian ice down in Texas (I'm a Jersey girl who relocated to Houston after college.) Unfortunately, it was kind of a let-down. Although the variety was impressive, the execution wasn't great all-around. My cannoli ice was pretty good, but my rainbow cookie scoop was pretty boring ( ...and I was a little surprised that there weren't actual pieces of rainbow cookie in the ice!) I got M&Ms as a topping, but they were not "fresh." (You know how the shell gets soft if they have been wet/out in humidity? Well, that happened.) Overall this definitely is not a place I would avoid, but I'd much rather drive down to Skipper Dipper for a cold treat :) read more

Check your receipts! I was supposedly charged $12 (I said I did not need a paper receipt, I used my card). I received an email receipt showing the $12 plus an additional $3 charge for a tip that I did not add myself. If I had paid in cash, I would have only been charged $12-obviously someone added a $3 tip for themself on my card. For the price of this ice cream, let alone the service, I would not have tipped $3. I was pleasantly surprised my first time here. Tons of ice flavors (they have definitely replaced meltdown as the best ice spot on the island). Uncle Louie G's just opened up in LBI. It's a cool looking blue house - still a little bare bones on the inside but they had italian ices so that's all that really matters. I actually stopped in here a few times while I was down in LBI, and I grabbed a small mango italian ice each time. The mango ice was pretty good - I was impressed. I liked it enough to not try anything else. There were also a TON of different flavors. Unfortunately, I am the kind of guy who sticks to something he likes so I didn't get adventurous with any of the other flavors, but I am sure this place has something for everyone. And, the ice was only $2 for a small - very reasonable, I thought. LBI has a ton of different ice cream places but not many italian ice stores so I am thinking that this place should get pretty popular real quick. read more

How is it possible that this place has 4 stars on yelp? Wow. First of all I want to start by saying that the 2 girls who just helped my friend and I were super nice and hard working. They themselves deserve 5 stars for service. However the quality of the product at this place is horrid, not to mention the prices for the size and considering how awful everything tastes. I only sampled a spoon of birthday cake but it was literally the worst cake batter/birthday cake flavor I've had anywhere. Considering how bad it was I decided to get a blue raspberry ice for me and a watermelon ice for my father-in-law. As to mine, it looked like blue raspberry but did not taste like blue raspberry. I don't even know what it tasted like. Whatever it was, it was not appetizing. $8.00 to throw it in the trash. Yes I should have sampled that too before ordering. My father-in-law also threw his away. Said it tasted like Bazooka bubblegum with an after taste. Very disappointing. Especially for their outrageous prices. read more

Great ice cream and Italian ice place. They have indoor and outdoor seating and it's a very convenient location. The place is very clean and they have a parking lot and a bathroom. The staff is very friendly but most importantly the ice cream and Italian ice is high quality and tastes great.
