Ah, Sonic. You may fondly recall this fast food drive-in, where all that separates you from a hot meal and delicious desserts is a red button and a credit card. You still remember the way that bag of grease looked as it was wheeled to you by a teenager who just learned how to roller blade a few minutes ago. The way they somehow made it to your bumper, clutching your corn dogs and tots as they did their best newborn Bambi impersonation. Well cling to those memories like a minivan bumper, because you're getting none of that nostalgia here. At this Sonic, when you pull into a space and hit that "ready to order" button, you've created a mortal enemy in the employee on the receiving headset. "DRIVE THRU ONLY" they exclaim, exasperated that they have to tell you this, as you try and remember a time you've been gaslit more effectively. As you pull into the drive in, they remember the hatred they felt towards you just a few seconds prior. Their teenage angst is on full display, like a mid 2000s My Chemical Romance concert, shouting out "ANYTHING ELSE?!?" after every item you order. Why did you pull into their drive-thru in the first place?!? The only saving grace, aside from the friendly young woman who was handing out the food (and should have been handed the headset duties instead), is that the food came out hot. I suppose that's not a high bar to reach when you've thrown out the rest of the business model and have nearly zero customers. So if you're feeling like a drive-in, find a Stewart's. If you're feeling like a good conversation, go to your local diner. Last time I came to this location I asked for a 12 piece bbq chicken. They gave me Buffalo which I can't eat for medical reasons. I called the location, spoke to a manager, and they told me they were going to replace my chicken and give me a free cherry limeaide for the inconvenience. Today I came in, ordered my chicken, told them who I am, and I had a woman named Kay standing in the window raising her voice at me telling me none of her managers recall my story and the best she can do for me is give me a 6 piece.... I was happy when this place first opened because it was a new novelty in the area to park and order from your car and have people skate over and deliver it to you... But that wore out after the first couple visits. Now I pretty much just pass through the drive through and pick something up once in while but today we decided to eat in since it was lunch time and we wanted a quick burger on the way to where we were going. We were the only people in the place and they have a bell so someone will come out and take the order. We both ordered burger combos and when they were ready the guy delivered them to us in a bag even though we were eating there. You can't come to sonic without getting a shake! Their shakes are awesome. For the full experience I recommend parking in the drive up parking spots so you have enough time to figure out your order! This sonic is a little slow depending on what time you go (at night they are slower) but I think it's worth the wait! Burgers and tater tot's are usually my go to food wise for this sonic. My husband just came home from stopping here and had a dismayed look on his face. When I asked him what was wrong, he ran up to the bathroom and proceded to get sick. He had ordered a large popcorn chicken and after he to a bite and swallowed he thought the skin was a little soft. However is wasn't the skin..... the whole piece of chicken inside the crispy exterior was raw. They refunded his money, however I do not think we will be eating at this location ever again. I can understand mistakes but serving raw chicken disguised in a crispy exterior is terrible. This could have ended much much worse than it did. They really need to be more careful. read more

I do not recommend sonic. I put an order through on the Yelp act app I put it for 20 minutes pick up I paid with my credit card I got a confirmation and said to follow up through the app. I get to the drive-in I had to wait about 10 minutes for somebody to come to the microphone. I told him I did a pick up order they said just come up and pick up at the window I give them my name I give them exactly what I ordered I told him I paid and the girl at the window said we don't have that order you can get back in line and order again. This is my first time coming to a Sonic - and I enjoyed it for sure. The taters were perfectly crispy, the onion rings breaded with just the right amount of onion to bread ratio, and the drinks came with that amazing shredded ice (which seems quite hard to find these days). And, as many already know, they are known for their unique parking lots where one can feel separated from the car next to them with a semi enclosed space ad large screen. My only complaint would be the quality of the burger - I wasn't impressed. The cut made me feel they used a cookie cutter, and the taste was nothing to rave about. I've been going to this Sonic off and on since it opened. At first the food and service was great, then it slowly declined. The changes that have been made are definitely for the better! The drive up screens are all brand new. It's pretty cool, you can pay with an app now! As for the food, it was much better than I remembered. I got a burger, tots, and an ocean water with peach flavor. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious! The server who dropped off the food was really nice. I'll definitely start coming back more often. Just as an FYI, the servers only get paid $5 an hour, they rely on tips just as a server in a full service restaurant would. This was my first experience at Sonic. The concept of driving up to a stall, placing your order, and being served by people on roller stakes is fun but I am not sure how efficient it is compared to standard drive throughs. Navigation in and out of the spots can be tricky when it is busy but at least for now they seem to be helping you out with this. Now for the food - a BLT Sandwich, Onion Rings, and an Oreo Sonic Blast. The BLT was great - it is nice to know that this is a place to get one when you have the craving. The onion rings are a pass - not much taste and not worth the calories for a zag. The blast was very good -- but how can you go wrong with Oreos and soft serve? Bottom line is the BLT alone is a reason for me to go back sometime in the future. The place is new as Sonic itself is new to the area. It is my hope they can maintain the freshness of the experience and keep an interesting option open for those looking to Drive-In for food. read more

This may just be me, but I am worried that Sonic may suffer a bit of market saturation in my book. I remember the specialness that came along with a trek (not just a trip, but a trek) to a Sonic. I remember getting all my friends to cram into a car and drive far far away when we were craving Slushies and Tots. However, there has been a recent explosion in the number of Sonic Drive-Ins to hit New Jersey. I remember I used to have to drive no less than 40 minutes to the nearest Sonic either way up in Totowa or down South by Tom's River. Now there is one on Rt 17 and another in on Rt 22. I was displeased, to say the least. It started with the drive up order machine shutting down mid-order. Then when prompted to pay by the carhop, the pay screen never showed up. They came out with a card reader to take my payment, but that just meant one more trip outside resulting in them forgetting a multitude of items. All condiments including the ones that were specifically asked for were left out along with any utensils or napkins. I had no ketchup OR HONEY MUSTARD for my chicken or tater tots. Then to top it all off, when my drinks were brought out- after the food mind you- Javier told me that he would be right back with my straws. Javier was not right back with my straws. Had been going to this place since the day it opened. Regular sonic food, nothing to rave about. They will mess your order up occasionally like any fast food place but for the most part they've always been good and friendly. On my last a few weeks ago visit we parked in one of the bays and pressed the "order button" after about 30 seconds we get a response of "Gimme a minute" no " Hi welcome to sonic" or anything, just "Gimme a minute" which was odd, but they might be busy in the kitchen or something, despite us being one of two vehicles there at 8pm on a Sunday. So we waited...and waited...and waited...after maybe 5 minutes a car pulls into bay next to us. We're still waiting. They sit there a minute, then we hear them getting their order taken. I have never been to a sonic but I sort of knew what to expect. Drive-up style with a roller skating waitress and their many 1 million plus combination's of fountain drinks. Alright burgers, so/so fries and I was more impressed with their hot dogs than anything else. I tried the Chicago dog and although so much relish was on it, it still was worth the try. My husband got a chili cheese dog which came packed in a tight cellophane bag that wiped off the majority of the cheese when he took it out. I stopped by this Sonic on the way home after a night out with my friend. He had never been to a Sonic before, and I was jonesing for a milkshake, so we decided to pop in. We pulled in to one of the carhop spots and he looked over the menu, as I looked over the milkshakes. He got a chicken sandwich on texas toast which he liked but couldn't finish so we took it home. We both got tots, which are always good. And I got a pretzel dog - which was fantastic. I love pretzel bread. I also got the banana cream pie milkshake, which was good. Anyways the shake at this place was so disgusting my father drank most of it, leaving me with my hankering for a strawberry shake..oh the dilemma..first world problems. Who came to the rescue, Sonic! I give this particular sonic the two stars, not the franchise. I absolutely love cherry limeades and do not have a problem driving 30 minutes to get one. However, after my first trip to this particular sonic I learned to ask for easy ice the next time I went as they filled up the cup with ice and there want much drink. Well, we just got back from our second trip and I asked for light ice however once again we got 80% ice and little limeade. You know it is the little things in life.
