Went in after jury duty since it was near by on Wednesday. I ordered 2 medium meals - oxtail and baked chicken. While my food was being prepped I used the restroom. The floor was sticky and there were napkins for toilet paper. It smelled because you can't flush the napkins. The server reviewed my order and the total was 29.86 with tax. I was in shock but also in a rush and just paid the bill. The menu I ordered from was on the counter next to the register. As for the food the rice was a bit mushy and the oxtail was more fat than meat with very little meat. Also it lacked some flavor. I ordered the chicken for my husband who will eat it today. I mentioned the menu because it does not show a medium oxtail meal as 18.00 or a large meal for that price yet I was charged 18.00, the chicken meal was 10.00 which is listed. I was never informed about any up charge for the oxtail. I also tipped 2.00. I gave it a 2 due to the dirty bathroom, tasteless food and overcharge. I am glad we found this humble restaurant! I am a true believer that a restaurant doesn't have to over sell to attract customers because people will be back for authentic food, top notch customer service, and unbeatable/reasonable prices. We ordered take out today, but will be back again to dine in next time. The Mofongo ( mashed plantains) is well seasoned and is served with a generous portion of cheese. I also ordered the sweet plantains, could maybe be cooked a little longer so it's softer. Tip: plenty of metered street parking and limit free restaurant parking at the back entrance. read more

Not impressed. I called ahead and asked if they had soup, guy mentioned 3 types. I get there 2 min later and they only had fish soup. So that was disappointing. I tried the carne guisada..the meat was tender and it tasted ok. The beans were watery and to me tasted like it had had something minty. My friend said maybe they put anise ..either way I didn't like it. For the lunch special and a soda I paid $16.50. My keto friend just wanted meat so she got a side of carne guisada and chicharrón and her plate was $18.95. Not sure we'll be coming back. read more

Came across this place because my mom is a huge fan of their food and is always ordering from this place. I decided to visit the location twice before writing this review as the first visit was a bit mixed. My mom wanted the Chicharron de Pollo Con Tostones so I placed the order when I got there and decided to order a Chicken Empanada for myself as I waited for her food . I have to admit the chicken empanada was not that great and even had a bone in it so I was not too pleased. Once her food was done, I took it to her and decided to taste her food. The Chicharron de Pollo was actually really good and had great flavor. The Tostones were not crispy so a little disappointed but it could have been because they were sitting out while the Chicharron was being prepared so okay no biggie did not leave a review. I went for a second time since my mom was hungry again! lol and this time she got the Locrio de Cerdo and because it looked pretty good, I decided to order one for myself as well. For my stepfather, we got him the baked chicken with some yucca. This time I was not disappointed! The Locrio was really good!! I wish it had more pieces of pork but that might be because I love pork. And I took some of my stepfather's yucca and it was super soft and tasty! We devoured a good portion of it and still had leftovers for later. I am so glad I decided to give this place a second chance and not base the review on my first experience. I am full on Dominican and I know Dominican/Latino food(s). La Reina del Sabor is one of the most flavorful and friendliest Latino Restaurants around. If you want tasty, rich and superb home cooked Dominican & Latino food this is the place to visit. Reina's cooking reminds me of my mom's home cooked meals. The owner & chef Reina does amazing dishes with mouth-watering flavors. The goat, oxtail, pernil, etc are so juicy and tender. Their variety of daily soups are hearty and tasty. I've been coming here for months and so far La Reina's cooking has been phenomenally tasty. The rest of staff here are incredibly outgoing and amiable. Yurdan the son, he's always receiving customers with a smile. Yurdaly the daughter, she's very attentive with all customers. Euclides the father, he does the deliveries right on time. Lissa is cordial. Emeli is always polite. Grandpa Nicolas always has a warm greeting for everyone. Instead of going to the Heights in NYC to get authentic Dominican fare, come over to La Reina del Sabor (translated to "The Queen of Flavor") in Hackensack. This is one of the best Dominican spots in the area.The Mangu is excellent as well as the other food.The flan is the best I've ever had.The potato salad is also excellent but it sells out fast. I've also ordered the shrimp mofongo which is cooked fresh.I highly recommend eating here or getting it to go. read more

Very disappointed with the food sent to me. I placed my order near closing time and judging from the yellow rice that was sent to me, I have the impression that they had ran out. Instead of telling me that they didn't have it, they scraped up and sent me the hard, dry leftover. I can't even chew it. I also purchased a small Dominican soup- another waste of money bc I couldn't eat that either. It was watery, flavor was off, and all it contained was 1 piece chicken w/ bone that wasn't fully cooked (pink areas and meat stuck to bone), and 1 piece beef w/ bone. A few carrots were the only vegetables. My Dominican soups pack more substance. Those were my issues with my order and what I will refrain from ordering next time. I only got empanadas here I was was super disappointed. What a waste of 7.50- they had a choice of chicken or cheese so I decided to go half and half. I saw the reviews online and gave it a try but I definitely won't be back. Although the service was really nice and pleasant the food wasn't worth it. The cheese empanadas wasn't crispy- it was soggy. But still tasted pretty decent- enough cheese filled for my satisfaction . The thing that really let me down were the chicken empanadas. I didn't even want to it then after taking a bite. The outer shell was a decent crispiness but the filling was gross. He texture was way off- it didn't even look like chicken- it was ground super fine( I mean like dust consistency). There was no flavor - it didn't a lot of salt and different spices to help it out. No only was it lacking in flavor the chicken itself so dry. It was like I took a mouthful of sawdust. The only saving grace was the hot sauce it came with. That was fresh and the only thing that kept that disgusting chicken empanadas down. I forgot to say- the owner also attacked my review and harassed me saying I shouldn't post bad reviews. One of the employees STOLE my cellphone. We were in the restaurant a few moments before they closed and were the last and only people there in terms of customers. The phone was accidentally left in the restroom and when I called them to ask for it they said they hadn't seen it. When we asked them to check their cameras they said they didn't have cameras in the bathroom. I would hope not. Bought here for the 1st time.Ordered a bistec encebollado which comes with white rice and beans. I was hurt unsatisfied by the order, my expectations where very hight especially knowing how amazing Dominican food really is. The bistec was not an actual bistec it was un hammered, it was hard and tasted old/ recooked with some onions. We got a lot of white rice but a mini container of beans which was not enough for all that rice. For the money I feel the food can be much better. I go here for the empanadas and the pork. Basically that's what my orders are kind of focused on and I enjoyed them very much. But I plan on trying more from their menu. Small place and fun and i usually have some kind of a tropical soda or sweet fruit juice with my meal. I had a delicious grilled skirt steak cooked medium with amazing pinto beans. Tasted like butter, in the best of ways. However, I ordered later the same week with two coworkers and our food took over 90 minutes to arrive (we work in close proximity to the restaurant). I am willing to forgive lateness, but the food was disappointing. The restaurant had called me to ask about the side dishes and I clearly requested the same white rice with pinto beans. Instead we received yellow rice with peas. A misunderstanding, but they did not answer my calls afterwards. The worst part was the steaks arrived cold, dry, and overcooked. I was very excited about this place and the lack of consistent quality is disconcerting. I take my food suggestions to people seriously and this place made me look like a joke. Update: I received a phone call from the owner who apologized, explained the reasons for the mishaps on Friday, and offered to make it right. Ordered with them because they were new and decided why not give them a try ordered the biloche but they ran out of it, so got the steak instead and they threw in an order of the fried plantains,quality of the food was very good was better than I expected it to be,the portion was very generous to the point that I could have eaten from it 3 times. I'm over this place. The food is good but their delivery to my area is inexcusable. First they didn't have any of the items I wanted so I cancelled the order. A week after that I tried to order again but they asked me to come pick it up instead so I cancelled. Two or three days later I tried once more and they told me the same thing so I had to cancel. I then decided to write a review here on Yelp and not long after got a call from the owner who explained they were having issues with deliveries (finding an extra driver) and how Yelp sets their delivery areas. He was nice enough to offer to drive the food here the next day himself, when it was less busy, and even offered a 50% discount if I went to get it myself. I declined because I'm not looking for a hand out, I'm looking for reliable service. Anyway, it's been a month or more since I tried to order from them so I decided to call first today to double check if they can deliver to me. This time they said yes but that I would have to order a minimum of $25 first which differs from what's listed by like $10 dollars or so. I agreed because I figured that me doing so would avoid any hassle. Ten minutes later I recieved a notification that my food would take at least an hour and a half to arrive because at 11am they are already backed up so I cancelled my order again. Like I said before, I'm over this place. If they have such a delivery issue and Yelp doesn't want to solve it, get off Yelp then! Work with company's that allow you to set the specific places you can actually deliver to without stretching yourselves thin. Don't just leave yourself on there offering delivery to areas you don't deliver to. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops for food or have my time wasted every time waiting 10 to 30 minutes just to have to cancel an order in the end. Also, like stated before, you should really fix how you list food items. You offer pernil, chicharron and half a chicken as items but you can't add rice as an item. It also doesn't state if these items come with rice or not so every time I ordered from you I had no idea what you would charge or remember to send me. Anyway, please no phone calls to discuss my rating this time. I'm giving you 2 stars and that's me being generous because from my experience I should really be giving you just 1 star. Maybe things will change with your delivery issues soon and then people will give you great reviews, pushing mine way into the past, but for now I'm going to be honest and post this so that people know about this. Please fix your situation or you are going to lose more customers. read more
