I had high hopes for this business as they have been the first place I found that made fried whole belly clams. I got a three portion lunch basket, 2 portions whole belly clams, 1 portion scallops, my 2 sides, coleslaw and onion rings. The scallops were undercooked, all the breading was falling off and worse it was salty. The onion rings uses the same batter which to me is a mistake, not great for onion rings. The whole belly clams were a little salty too. Coleslaw was good, a tad sweeter then I'm used to. The people were really nice. read more

This place came highly recommended by the late Chef John Gonzales who ran A Chef's Kitchen. Chef John had a reputation for locating quality ingredients and then passing that knowledge on to his patrons. What I learned from Chef John is that Uncle Russ' offers fresh seafood and does not use sodium tripolyphosphate to artificially increase the weight to bring a higher price. We have purchased scallops from Uncle Russ' and we're not disappointed. The prices are little higher but you get what you pay for in this case. Quality. read more

Large portions of perfectly cooked seafood for a very reasonable cost. We had lunch portions that included the calamari, scallops, shrimp, onion rings, and hush puppy. Items appeared to be hand breaded, and all was fresh. The fried scallops were among the best I've had. Delicate breading, stayed on the scallops without overpowering them. The onion ring batter I thought was a tad salty but the hush puppies were perfect. Crispy with tender center. We could have skipped the crab dip. Wasn't super crabby and it could have been better. Located in a tuck away strip section sits Uncle Russ Dockside Seafood Market on Olde Towne Road near Longhill Rd in Williamsburg. Minutes from Williamsburg Premium Outlets. There is several local eateries lined up next to each other. The sammich shop and Corey's Kitchen are these businesses. There are a few parking spots with a 5 minute wait slot. Once inside, very nautical theme restaurant. The strong smell of seafood makes you're mouth water. Order the dinner plates, 2 entrees ( crab balls & scallops) 2 sides, fried pickles and homemade cut fries. Mom got the fried catfish, homemade fries, and coleslaw. 20 mins later we got our food. Piping hot! My food was extremely good, however, they were skimpy on the fries. I CAN count how many I had. They put the special Uncle Russ dry seasoning on the fries. That's really good seasoning. Loved this local place. Cozy on inside but the food was delish! Owner was kind and fun to talk with and we enjoyed crab dip, the fish and chips special, their collard greens and their home made tarter sauce and onion ring sauce. The oysters were so delicious and had a briny and sweet flavor, lemon juice and hot sauce were not used. Flavor was amazing. And the owner hooked us up with an oyster farm owner and we got to experience the farming process. Absolutely amazing experience. read more

We were looking for blue crabs but they didn't have them yet because too early of the season. Figured we checkout their menu and thank god we did. This place surprised us! We ordered two sandwiches to go and they were still good when we got back to the resort. I had blackened salmon cooked to perfection, best onion rings I have ever had. Light, crispy and not a bit of grease and delicious fresh coleslaw. My husband who orders fried flounder usually puts ketchup on his fish because it's never really fresh. He didn't have to put ketchup on his fish tonight. It was fresh, crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside. He said it was the best fried flounder he's had in many years. The young lady at The counter was multitasking, very polite, professional, very short wait to have fresh, hot seafood! This is the real deal; a proper fish monger who delivers quality products. I pop in as often as I can and am always delighted to see fish I've never heard of or other interesting offerings. This is the place to visit if you want to buy fish and mollusks that you can't get anywhere else in town. Uncle Russ has a keen eye for fine but not fussy food and drink, so every now and then I'll pick up some dry-aged beef, sausage or craft beers here, as well. Absolutely fantastic service and outstanding fish and chips. I have to say, these were some of the best fish and chips I've ever had, and I've had A LOT of fish and chips in many different parts of the world. They are not typical British style fish and chips, but they are deliciously perfect in their own way. The cod pieces were on the smaller size, but the portion was fine, which just meant they were delicately flavored and buttery and flakey in texture. The chips were shoestring cut potatoes dipped in the same batter, as far as I could tell, and totally scrumptious. Also, when I asked about Uncle Russ' three different Bloody Mary mixes, Uncle Russ himself came out and explained the intricate differences between the three as if he were explaining any chef's creation, with great love and detail. Then, he brought out a tray for me to sample them chilled, which I tried them and have to say, they were all outstanding, but I went with the Spicy Suntan as it was closest to how I like mine. I have to say, I've never met a Bloody Mary enthusiast this profoundly into his mix... so major respects to Uncle Russ! All around... seriously good stuff! My grandfather owned a seafood restaurant on the coast of North Carolina, so I've eaten some mighty fine seafood in my day. Uncle Russ' is right up there at the top with the best I've ever eaten. For vacationers with kids - pick up your meal here and save on tips and long waits!! They can even play while you have a quiet meal!! We had a seafood feast at our nearby condo on Spring Break. A few pounds of shrimp they peeled and deveined and three pounds of mussels with garlic and butter they steamed for us and then fried crab cakes and hush puppies and sides of cole slaw. My large steam pot still came out before the designated time, and the staff could not have been more friendly, knowledgeable, or helpful. I really dislike giving bad reviews, but there was no transparency in their pricing, and I feel robbed. I would not recommend anyone to a restaurant with predatory pricing. Especially one that is as grievous as this place. It was my first time there. And most surely my last time. All I wanted was a crab cake, not as a sandwich, and without the sides. They sell the whole meal for $10. I just wanted the crab cake on its own. They charged me $21, for what I thought was 1 crab cake cut into 3 smaller portions. He almost had me get 6 pieces which would have been over $40. He could have been clear about the price. He could have been clear about the size of the crab cake. But he decided to manipulate the situation and profit from it. This dishonesty should be fair warning about the shenanigans that go on here. I really, really dislike thievery. read more

Absolutely LOVE Uncle Russ'! However, purchased what was supposed to be flounder and turns out to be totally something else! I questioned the salesperson and she assured me it was flounder...NOT!!! This was very evident when I saw the outer skin. I even questioned the salesperson, "are you sure that's flounder", "yes, it's the dark side". She had quickly wrapped the fish so I did not see the skin before I purchased the fish. MY BAD, I do not think she was trying to fool me, just not knowledgeable..too bad so much to choose from. read more

First visit and welcomed as we entered. The two ladies working there were eager to help us decide on which seafood was for dinner. The young lady that was also the cook was very knowledgeable in cooking methods for the crab we chose and made us feel at home. Went today to buy some fish for dinner. No one in the store was wearing a mask or wearing gloves to prepare food. Most customers went in without masks. We won't be returning while the corona virus is still in Williamsburg. We wanted to support local business but they are not making any effort to protect their customers. Very unfortunate. read more
