Adopted my parrot from here this month but have been volunteering for months here. Every bird has their own personality, space and time spent with them on the daily. Reed is wonderful to be around and he has taught me so much. The adoption process was so wonderful, everything I've wanted. All my needs were met. Reed makes sure all these birds go to great homes. As for the parrots, they are provided with daily enrichment, a great diet, other birds to interact with and places to hide . Misters in the heat and heat lamps in the cold. This place is a real hit if you love birds. It's a small, privately owned, bird sanctuary and I'm really glad we found it. The people that run it and care for the birds are first class fun. They give you a little cut of food of peanuts, cooked pasta and bread to feed the birds. You're given a very brief class on how not to get bitten when feeding them. These types of birds can inflict a nasty bite. It only costs ten dollars a person to walk through and it has to be cash. I donated another twenty bucks as well. The bird enclosures are spacious and the birds appear well fed and healthy. I really enjoyed the Emus, budgies and the funny chicken. There are even peacocks running around. One let me feed it peanuts and was very friendly. This place does a great service for surrendered birds nobody wants or knows how to take care of. Visiting funds continued care for these animals and I fully support the mission. It really is a fun experience. read more

This was a much anticipated visit for me personally while my family and I were in town. None of us had ever visited before and I was looking for a new experience to enjoy. They had to raise their admission prices recently and I was sad that I couldn't visit prior to that change. This was still very affordable and had no impact on my decision to visit or not. The cup of food is included in the price and each person will get their own cup. You can also return any food leftover as you leave to help reduce waste. This was a hit for sure. The staff was very nice and provided excellent education on how to feed the birds and how to be safe during the interactions. The space is a great size to accommodate all the birds and visitors - not too big and not too small. There is great diversity of birds here that will surely capture most, if not all, of the visitors' attention. We ended up completing our visit in about 30 minutes. The kids wanted to end it a little early as it was very hot and humid and they were starting to get uncomfortable. We all agreed that this was money well spent even if we ended up cutting the visit a little shorter than expected. I would love to come back during winter to have a longer, more comfortable experience someday. 10/10 - highly recommend making a visit. Even if you happen to not enjoy the experience, the admission fees that you paid for goes towards the care of the birds so I hope you can at least leave feeling good about that. ‍‍ We had an amazing time at Uncle Sandy's Macaw Bird Park! The birds are so friendly (but watch out for the head bites ), and the staff is great at teaching you how to feed them. Can I give this more stars??? Such a cool little spot. You are greeted by a nice gentleman who gives you bird snacks with your ticket. He then showed us how to feed the parrots. Multiple kinds of parrots, peacocks and emus! The emus even posted for pictures. Inexpensive, close to the airport, great family fun! Has a bathroom. Took us about 45 minutes, we are bird lovers. With little kids I would say it might take 30-60 minutes depending on how crowded it is and how long it takes to feed your snacks. read more

Surprised my husband for his birthday since he loves parrots. It was super hot that day, but we went and got to feed the birds. I thoroughly enjoyed it since I have never been around birds like that. Drove by lots of times and didn't know what a wonderful place this was. Reed wants everyone to know how special birds are. He will take plenty of time to answer questions and help anyone unfamiliar with them get acquainted. There are so many types and LOTS of personalities. Visiting from out of town, this was a rare find. Adult entry was 5 bucks, our two year old was free. They have over 150 birds that you can walk around and feed using the food they provide you with. Staff were very informative and helpful, the whole experience was definitely more than we expected. The only things I would add is that the entry point is really only big enough for one vehicle at a time, so take extra caution entering or leaving. Also there are warnings everywhere about the birds biting, so you just need to be extra mindful with your little ones read more

Reed is a wonderful and honest man to work with. We adopted a lovely yellow nape Amazon recently for a nominal fee. I was so tired that day, it turns out I gave Reed an extra $100 more than he asked for the parrot. I didn't know this and would never had known. Later, I received a phone call from Reed who told me of the overpay, and he proceeded to return that $100. to me. I ask you, who these days has the mindset to do that? Very few in my view...except Reed. Now we have a wonderful parrot in our home. Dolly has adjusted nicely to our home and she receives all the love and care that was absent from her previous owner. Kudos to Reed and also high respect for all the work at Uncle Sandy's that goes into caring for all their feathered friends! read more

What a neat hidden gem right in the middle of Pensacola! I've lived here all my life and never realized this was here. Take an hour or two and go visit Uncle Sandy's. The staff was so nice (and they're all volunteers). For just a few bucks, they'll give you some peanuts and other treats for the birds. Once we entered the large bird area, we were greeted by two peacocks strutting their stuff - it was so cool. As you wander through, you'll see all kinds of birds - parrots and more - who all are waiting to get their beaks on your peanuts. I cannot believe that I'm giving a five star review to what is essentially a walk through someone's backyard, but I honestly cannot remember the last time that I enjoyed an animal attraction so much. I wanted to find info about the local zoo and this showed up in the Yelp app results. When I read about it I knew I had to go. Uncle Sandy's Macaw Bird Park is a 501(c)3 non profit organization (I verified this on the IRS website) that is home to a large number of birds, with macaws being the most prevalent breed. It could politely be described as "rustic". Some of the birds are in traditional cages but other cages look like they were constructed with whatever happened to be around (roofs made of garage doors, sheet metal, etc). Some people might turn their nose up at this but I admired the ingenuity. The birds were in very good health. There were a few feather pickers, but they were in the vast minority and not to be unexpected with this many birds. Once you pay your five dollar admission you're given a cup of peanuts. I'm warning you that if you don't stop reading now you will be subjected to the ramblings of a very happy bird lover. The tour of the place actually didn't start well. The first bird I encountered was an unfriendly blue and gold macaw. He would aggressively snatch the peanut from your hand and then just throw it to the ground untouched. I almost gave the cup back to the worker because this was about as fun as putting my finger in a blender. I'm glad I didn't because the other blue and gold that was in the cage was as sweet and gentle as could be. He took the peanut, ate it, and made some cute noises asking for more. This was pretty much how the rest of the visit was. I fed literally dozens of birds and all of them were gentle, friendly, funny, shy, excited, or a mixture of those. There were the two blue and golds that were missing claws and only had nubs for toes because their idiotic previous owners had left them outside in the winter and they got frostbite. It was amazing watching them balance on their branches despite their disabilities. There was the hilarious military macaw that kept yelling "HELLO!" trying to get our attention. He did what I called "the peanut dance" every time he got a peanut from me. He was so excited he couldn't contain himself. There was a cockatoo that kept cracking me up. He was dancing around and hanging upside down showing off. He didn't even want a peanut but his cage mate was more than happy to take his. There was a GIANT cage with a large number of macaws. I fed them through the fencing but I had no desire to go inside. In the pictures on the website the people feeding them are covered with birds, including having some birds on their heads. You're not escaping that without some bombs getting dropped on you! :-) There were other smaller breeds, such as conures and lovebirds. I even saw a breed I had never seen, the Eclectus Parrot. Feeding the two emus they had was insane. You put a peanut in your hand and they will snatch it up VERY rapidly and swallow it whole. It completely shocked me the first time but I thought it was hilarious after that. There was a giant, free-roaming tortoise that walked by me while I was doing this. I spent at least an hour and a half feeding birds and I loved every second of it. There are so many more birds here than I expected. It boggles my mind thinking of the effort it must take to keep this place running. They definitely can use donations and they'll be getting one from me. read more

If you love birds then this is a MUST visit! Wonderful place to spend a couple of hours and great for families! The staff and volunteers were friendly, down to Earth, and more than happy to show my friends and I around. One tip; if you wanna go into the free flight cage with a bunch of macaws (which I highly recommend), wear a shirt you don't mind getting a little dirty. They may land on your shoulder, and when you give them a peanut the shells will fall on your shirt and hair, but it's all part of the experience and tons of fun and a great opportunity for pictures! It can get pretty loud in there, obviously, but I think people get used to it pretty quickly. read more

If you like birds, or have a bird, stop by this place and support them. At first glance it looks run down, but they operate on a thin budget. A truck topper works just fine as a shelter :) Lots of Macaws, and plenty of other parrots. If wanting to get a bird, please check with them on adoption, as well as to learn more first. Many aren't even available to adopt, but they can CERTAINLY help you learn. Every cent you spend also helps a bird left behind, and often by those who simply had no idea what it took and walked away. read more

Its a great place to go for the day there are a lot of cool parrots and other types of birds.We got to hold a bird it was a African gray. They gave us food (peanuts and noodles) for the birds, they sprayed us with bug spray I worn jeans and I do recommend doing that we had to wear a mask for the birds safety they will tell you not to put your hands into the cages. Overall just a great place to go to would 100% recommend to bird lovers and even if your not one it's just a great place to go to. Staff was so friendly and helpful, again it was just a great place to go for the day we loved it, it was definitely the hi light to my Pensacola beach vacation and it is only $5 per adult and $2 for kids 12 and under and it was the best $5 we spent this entire trip. read more

We stopped through on our way out of town and appreciated the friendly and flexible attitude of the volunteer who introduced us to the birds. May have had a nightmare of three about the macaw's tongues afterwards, but that isn't their fault. As you can see, the bright colors provided plenty of beautiful photo ops. read more

Absolutely LOVE this place! Feeding and interacting with the birds is just an amazing experience. This whole establishment is 100% run by volunteers and donations, so when I visit, I always bring some shelled unsalted peanuts, apples or oranges as a donation ... or drop a few extra dollars into the donation box. ADORABLE!! Cheap, I think it may have been five dollars (but donations accepted, which you most definitely should because it's a wonderful cause). This place is a bird sanctuary so not all of the birds are the prettiest or most mystical, because several are rescued they each have their own unique differences. Each bird is quirky and if you take your time and enjoy the experience you will catch on to their personalities quickly. I enjoyed the man who was there when we went, he was soft spoken and gentle natured. You can tell that this is a passion and a love of his and not a business effort. I look forward to taking my nephew to see the birds! (Disclaimer: this experience can take five minutes or it can take a few hours. It is up to you to enjoy yourself and make the memories.
