It is set way back along a somewhat secluded road called Jerry L Maygarden Road. It may seem like you're going onto private property, but you're not! The park is between the SkyWarrior Flight Training & Pensacola Aviation Center to the left and the Pensacola Air Flight School & the Pensacola Navy Flying Club to the right. There's a gate at the entrance of this park. It is free to the public. The park is open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily. There are picnic tables of which one has shade. It rained a lot while I was visiting Pensacola in August. The park looks like a mini airport with runways, control tower, and airplanes! Although there is a mini Control Tower (observation tower) at this park, I could not get to the stairs without stepping into a very large pool of water! I really wanted to go up there, but I didn't want to get my shoes soaking wet! The main walkway is a mock runway. The smiling red, blue, and yellow airplane toys are off to the side. Too cute!!! This discovery park is also known as the General Daniel "Chappie" James Jr. Aviation Discovery Park. General "Chappie" was a Pensacola native who became the first African American four-star general to serve in the U.S. military. There are tribute plaques to him and other individuals important to aviation. I stayed here for about a half hour and watched the planes land & take off at the Pensacola Regional Airport. Hubby & I used to park near the Los Angeles Airport (LAX) way back in the day before the road was barricaded and closed to the public. We'd watch the planes take off! I miss that and it was nice to be able to do that here for a bit!

And recommended that you also use other protective wear such as elbow, knee, and wrist pads, too. Bicycles and scooters are not allowed in the concrete bowl. Came here for my niece's birthday party recently, and we had a really great time! You pay some…read moremoney and you get some pizza and some soda, but the real prize you get is the go-kart tickets and the private room for like an hour. The pizza was fine, soda is soda, and you get the option to purchase additional food. The go-karts were really fun, though. Mixing kids with adults on the track is always fun. Kids don't often get to try to physically attack adults very often, so this is their chance. I am a master of Mario Kart, though, so I came out triumphant. My Goddaughter and I smoked the competition. Never got passed. Enough about me, though. Getting the chance to just be secluded in a private room so we could eat in peace and sing happy birthday to my niece was really nice. I liked this experience, and I would totally come back.

What a great location and memorial for Veterans!…read more The first thing I noticed when I was parking, was the special purple space reserved for Combat Wounded Veterans. That's awesome! Veterans Memorial Park is adjacent to Admiral Mason Park. They share the 5.5 acres of land. The Veterans Memorial Park pays tribute to the American Revolution, Korean War, WWI, WWII, Marine Aviation, Submarine Vets, Purple Heart, Minuteman, Persian Gulf War, Gold Star Families, and Global War on Terror. They have reserved a spot for the future home for the Military War Dog Memorial. Veterans Memorial Park has been here since 1992. At the main entrance is a flag court with flags from each of the branches of our Military. There's a UH-1 Cobra Helicopter near Wall South. It's placement is visible from the road, but what is really cool is that when you are facing Wall South, the helicopter is high enough that it seems like it is hovering nearby! Wall South is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. This wall has 58,315 names of the dead and missing. There's a lake in the Admiral Mason Park with walking trails and benches. It seems like a great place to hang out at. It was hot out, so I just took a quick look from the Veterans Memorial Park area. Something else to see nearby - just across Bayfront Parkway is Hawkshaw Lagoon Memorial Park, which has a sculpture called "The Sanctuary" by Sam Nettles. This is a National Memorial for Missing Children. Might be worth a little walk across the street to see. Be careful crossing the busy street because cars may not stop even though there is a marked pedestrian walkway. My friend and I brought our 6 children here. There were a lot of little activities for them to do,…read morebut we were hoping for a pumpkin patch. There was no patch. There was only a table full of small pumpkins. It's fine. There were a lot of other good things about the place. The deer, the goats, the big pig that walked around, the zip line, etc. Well we went up to pay our way in and the lady at the concession was So Super nice! The price was $10 each. 2 and under are free. My friend paid for her and her two children. I pod for myself and 3 of my 4 children because my youngest was 2. I asked again about the and under being free. She said yes. So I asked what about the pumpkins? Because usually the pumpkins are included in the price. She said "Oh the pumpkins are free! Take as many as you want. We have more than we know what to do with!" Ok great! We spent close to 2 hours doing all the activities. Then we when we were ready to leave, we went to the pumpkin table to get our pumpkins. My daughter had a hard time choosing so we were showing her options then putting them back until she found the one she wanted. Great! We go to leave and we're taking pictures of the kids carrying their pumpkins. 1 for each of us. I was carrying mine and my daughter's. When I was almost to the parking area, a woman stopped me and said we got too many pumpkins. I was confused and told her we paid 7 fees and my youngest was free. And she said "I don't know. They just told me y'all had too many pumpkins and I have to get them." So I explain that we had the right amount. She wasn't having it. She said the pumpkins were only free for the kids. So I don't really know what my friend and I paid fees for because it's not like we got on the zip line or anything. Whatever! So I give her the two I have in my arms back and walk away. My friend goes back and at least gets my daughter's pumpkin back from the lady because I was done with the confrontation. She was hearing it. All in all, my children enjoyed it. Every other employee other than this lady was so super nice! But it was not the pumpkin patch experience we or they were hoping for and the lady at the end of it ruined my whole view of the place. We will not go back. We'll drive a few minutes down the road to Holland Farms!
