I canceled my membership signed all papers and that was done, fast forward to the 10th of the month I had a charge in my bank account. Confused I called the gym they told me to email someone and that I they had no paper trail of me canceling. Be carful with them this is not the first time I had to dispute a 150 dollar charge from them cause they made a mistake. read more

This place is legit! Have been going here for the past two years. Staff is super nice and attentive. Tanning is free for members. Large locker rooms with clean bathrooms and showers. They will routinely take suggestions for new equipment, with the addition of the glute machine recently. Ample parking, which is so rare in Stamford. Great location. read more

I hate to leave a negative review, but this gym is terrible. My biggest complaint is the cleanliness. The gym is filthy. The machines have crud all over them, the mats are ripped and dirty, you can definitely tell the equipment is not cleaned. If this gym charged $10-20/month, i might push myself to overlook it even though my skin crawls every time I'm there, but $40 a month for dirty, outdated equipment is not ok. You're better off paying the extra $5 and going to LA Fitness. It's bigger, cleaner, and less crowded. They also don't offer any perks, no guest passes, no free trials, no nada. And I get why they don't want to give a tour or free trial, you'll see how dirty and gross everything is and not sign up. Makes sense. read more

Misleading information on hours of operations. Their front doors state different hours, their website is all 24/7, which is not the case. I got sold on a 24/7 operating hours deal, and came to find out the hours vary all week and on the weekends. Granted, hours changed during the pandemic, but there is no excuse to having inconsistent timing of when members are allowed to use the gym in 2023. The staff never answers the phone, which is inconvenient if a member is trying to check what time they open or close on any given day. Hygiene - there was missing tissue paper on multiple dispensers one day, and when I asked the front desk representative if he had any tissue paper left over, there was no response in return, just a blank stare of "Please don't bother me". It would be great if they had a cleaning company do a thorough dusting session of the ceiling once a month, as it's filled with dust, that way members don't inhale the overall dust since the gym is ventilated daily. New floor mats are necessary, as the current ones are outdated and in a bad condition. The gym itself has potential to be in top shape, but not enough strategic management to outperform its competitors. Overall, a decent fitness center if you're OK with working out in the conditions mentioned above. read more

Great place to workout, can access door at 3:00am in the morning 7 days a week. Including the powerful lighting in the tanning beds, free classes, access to the gym's peloton bike membership and the hydro row machine. If your a person that like to workout when there the fewest of people around this would be the gym for you. read more

My daughter has been trying to cancel her membership for over a year. Every time she calls gym the manager, whom she has been told is the only person who can help her, is never available and has not returned any of her calls. We've told them to stop charging the credit card, however they continued to charge us anyways. The billing stopped finally for a brief period but we recently noticed we were being charged again. It may be a great place to work out, but their billing practices are a mess. read more

At first it's easy to dismiss the gym since it doesn't have windows and is tucked away in a shopping center. However, I have been more than pleased with my experience with the gym so far. I have been going there for about a year now and I don't see myself switching anytime soon. My only big suggestion would be adding a sauna. Pros: Amazing bodybuilding gym. Lots of versatile equipment. Motivated and fit members. Tanning booths. Small turf area. Tons of cardio equipment. Open 24/7. Never too packed. Members have a respect for the gym and put weights away. Spinning room and smaller enclosed fitness studio. Con: Literally underground (as expected). The locker room can use a remodel. I cannot rate this facility on the quality of machines, services, or staff. I didn't get that far. I was looking for a gym to join for the winter months to supplement the fitness classes I take. Unfortunately, there are not many options in Stamford. After much research, including reading through many yelp reviews, I decided Underground would be a good option due to location, hours, and price. I called to find out about getting a day pass to try out the facility before getting a month or several month membership and was told that the only way I could get a day pass is if I accompanied a member. Huh? I said I'd be happy to pay for a pass to try the gym out, but I didn't want to commit to a full month before I knew if I'd actually like the facility enough to come back. The girl I spoke with didn't seem to understand my logic. I asked to speak to a manager, who wound up being very nice, although he gave me the same spiel wrapped in some BS about fire codes and capacity of their facility and other local gyms closing down, etc... Obviously Underground is doing REALLY well because they aren't interested in new members. Yes -most gyms offer a free day or week pass to get you in the door to test the place out. This is a smaller operation, so I completely get that not being their policy. I don't, however, get the rest of their story -not being able to buy a day pass? At the end of my conversation with the manager, he did say I could come down and look at the place and if I came on an off-peak hour, I could test it out. By that point I was so turned off. Definitely not the type of place I'd foresee as welcoming and inclusive. Perhaps they're great. They might be the best gym ever (probs not), but the utterly confusing conversation I had with these people was so off putting I wouldn't even consider stepping inside. Super glad they're doing so well membership wise that they're able to have the policies they do -that's an awesome problem to have, especially for a small business (and that isn't sarcasm)! read more

A great fitness community! This small gym is situated in the basement of a shopping center. 24/7 access allows members to workout when it suits them best. The crowd is always friendly, but it is never crowded. The staff is friendly, and works quickly to resolve issues or set up new members. The gym seems to be undergoing a transition, and I must say: the newer areas are STUNNING. The locker-room/bathroom feels like that of a luxury gym. The equipment could use better organization, but it is all modern and maintained well. read more

Underground fitness is my only gym choice in town after New York sports club in Springdale closed its door. I've been going to Underground fitness for a few months now. Happy with all the equipment there, plenty of cardio machines, and weights. The gym can feel too crowded at times, but I never had to wait too long for any machines and it is clean. My only complaint about this gym is ... that perfume in locker room. Oh my god, it is so strong. I understand that they are trying to cover all the sweat and body odor, but this scent is just horrible. I could hardly breathe. If any manager is reading this, please please please do something about it. Replace it with a milder scent perhaps? read more

Underground is a great value! The place is clean and there is plenty of parking. The equipment is above average and the locker rooms are comfortable. I've known about Underground Fitness for a long time. Many years ago I called to find out about their membership info and the person who answered the phone was rude and not very helpful. I was new on the fitness scene and the phone call deterred me from wanting to go there in person. Cut to years later when I decided to shop around for a new gym. I went with a friend tonight to check the place out and i am so happy I did! This place is clean, well laid out, not too crowded (even during a peak hour like 6pm) and modern. The woman at the front desk was helpful, knowledgable, kind and courteous. We told her that we were shopping around for gyms and she completely understood. She told us about the membership options and the pricing. The pricing is some of the best available in the Stamford area. She offered to give us a tour and gave us the option of walking around for ourselves- we chose to check it out without her help. They have a lot of standard cardio machines, a turf area, free weights and weight machines. There's a yoga/pilates/dance room and a very cool spinning room. The bathrooms and changing area were clean and their showers looked impeccable. Other reviews have mentioned a heavy perfume scent but I liked the air freshener. More places could use an air freshener like the one at Underground Fitness- it wipes out all sweaty smells and the possibility of catching a whiff of gross body odor. I was really impressed with the facility and the staff. Too many people at gyms are interested in making sales and pressuring people- that's not the way to win new members! The woman at the front desk didn't pressure my friend and I at all. She was confident that the gym was great and didn't once make me feel pressured, try to sell me on anything or use tactics on me to convince me that I had to sign up. I'm one of them. With that said... Walk in, smells like tanning lotion. It's a gym filled with 20 somethings with ulterior motives, including people behind the desk. I went in for a tour and she barely stood up and just pointed around. First thing she mentioned was free tanning. That should have been my first and last clue. The layout is terrible, it seems as if they set down machines and weights where they fit with no rhyme or reason. There isn't a dedicated area for functional training. There's a box for jumping if you can find the room to use it. Locker rooms are clean but I can hardly breathe because they must spray the hell out of it with lysol. IT'S NOT $19.99/MO as advertised by the gigantic banner obstructing the whole strip of shops. No commitment, it's $39.99/mo for the first year, then it goes down to $29.99/mo the second year. In order to pay $19.99/mo you have to pay upfront fees with a yearly contract - and I believe that is too, after one year. Might as well join NYSC and get a better layout and staff. Not to mention free towel service. I personally give it one star, but if going to the gym should be a scene for you and you want to meet some fellow meatheads, then by all means, sign up! This really is a great gym. Never over crowded even at peek times. You can always get on any of the equipment. Lots of free classes and a great atmosphere. I also see lots of people pushing themselves so it inspires me to go an extra mile on the treadmill. read more

Don't be a dumbbell, Join Underground Fitness!!! This place puts all other Gyms to shame.. It's open 24/7 365! So instead of craving a midnight snack you can hit the weights at Underground. Terrible customer service. I was a member for over a year, and decided to bring my first guest ever- was told by the manager during the day that the guest just had to be signed in before 10pm- came at 9:15pm with my guest and the guy at the desk was giving my friend a death glare, told me he wouldn't let my friend in and proceeded to cut me off and say "I don't give a f*£¥ who told you 10"... I was shocked because I was being very polite and I've spoken with the employee in the past with no issue whatsoever. I was appalled at the treatment we were given. I asked for his name and left. Previous to this, they gave me a front key car to get in that was broken, so for a month, after they lock to doors around 10pm, I couldn't get in. To say that I am elated is an understatement! The gym is so well laid out, the staff is attentive and friendly and the prices are more than fair! I did two walk troughs before committing and each time I was greeted with someone who actually knows about fitness and seemed interested in my goals! I have recently moved to Stamford and did some research on gyms in the area. Underground Fitness had the best reviews, decently priced, and has what I was looking for in a gym. It is $380 if you sign up for the year (including $140 sign up fee), which comes out to $20/mo., or $40 a month plus the sign up fee. Price includes 24/7 access to the gym, classes and tanning. It's not huge so when it's busy you might find yourself waiting for a machine. read more

I am merely rating this facility based on the 5 minute negative encounter I had with the woman at the front desk. I walked in to learn more about memberships and cost. When I walked in the girl at the front desk was talking to another woman (seemed to be another employee) behind the desk. I stood there for about a minute before they both turned to me as if I was interrupting their conversation. Once they acknowledged me, I asked what the membership costs look like. The girl spit out random prices... $40 down, $40/month or $300 something per year, then said nothing else. I asked about the $19.99 membership poster that is taking over the storefront of the gym, and she said "oh thats nothing, only yearly but you still have to pay an initiation fee". She didn't hand me any type of brochure or paperwork, didn't explain either membership further or even ask if I wanted a tour. Just totally felt like I was intruding on her pow wow and not being cared for what so ever. So, I walked out. Needless to say, I will not be purchasing a membership at Underground Fitness because of this. I am not one to write reviews online, but I couldn't resist. From my experience and some other people's reviews, seems like this gym needs to train their employees on the importance of customer service. read more

To the business Manager...yes you do have a member named David S....I frequent this gym regularly and the upholstery on the benches is torn, locker rooms still smell like dirty feet, members still video tape themselves and leave their gym bags that should be put in the lockers on the gym floor on equipment making us have to inconvenience them by removing it so we can use the equipment. Safe to say that won't change and equipment will still need wiping down after the user walks away from the equipment with the plates still in tact on the barbells. read more
