Certified here in August 2016 and had a great time! I dove once in Florida and it was NOT a good experience. I'm taking a second class here this year 2020 and really looking forward to it. Is Puget Sound cold. I did not experience "cold". Rather, I experience blissful relief. Wet suits, tanks, BCD, Weights, Boots, Gloves, Hood, and other gear, you get hot. It's a relief to get in the water. I dove in 83 F water in Florida. I did NOT like it. I could not cool off and was uncomfortably warm in bare skin. PS Diving in the fall in Puget Sound is when the Algae dies off and all the sea life from the summer is romping around down there. :-) These are great teachers, safety focused with a strong commitment to communication with each diver, and diver buddies. I felt very safe, and learned to relax, to slow down and watch a 2 sq ft section for a couple minutes and learn to let the sea floor come to life. Great teachers! I'm coming back. :-) read more

This has long been my preferred location of Underwater Sports, for a couple of reasons--first, their close proximity to the Edmonds Underwater Park, which is just about the best scuba diving spot in Central Puget Sound; second, the genuinely friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic service from the staff here. Their store is smaller and their inventory is thinner than some of the other locations, such as the store on Aurora in Seattle. This location seems to be targeted a bit more at the serious diver and stocks less of the inventory for, say, folks who are going to be taking a family trip somewhere to go snorkeling. They sell all of the basics, do tank fills, offer classes, and are more than willing to discuss the features of different products and answer any and all questions based on their real-world experiences I dropped in here recently to pick up some new fins and an underwater camera to take on an upcoming scuba trip to French Polynesia (!!!!!!!). Two different employees helped me in a totally complementary way and gave me the full low-down on the camera I purchased and how it compares to competing models and brands...that level of explanation was nice because the camera itself is an expensive investment and the trip is an even more expensive investment that I'm looking forward to being able to capture with my, erm, vast photography skills. As French Polynesia is not a Yelp-ing country, I guess I'll have to post a few scuba pics with this review upon returning in mid October! One last note: they sell laminated maps of the Edmonds Underwater Park, which come very much in handy since there is so much to see there. read more

Very fun staff! Conformed to each students learning speeds. Classroom was a little boring---but who loves classroom!! The hands on training was amazing. I have now found a new hobby that I love and will continue. I will be going back to do my advanced divers courses and maybe the buoyancy class! All the master diver trainers are understanding and will work patiently with you. (JP will karate chop you though---however he forewarns you and it's for your safety) haha! read more

Recently they went out of their way to help me fix a transmitter link with my dive computer despite the manufacturer having responded that it no longer supports servicing of these models. I had to write an update for Underwater Sports after passing the June Open Water Scuba Class. had to. I cannot begin to tell you how amazing Fred and Rory of Argonaut Diving have been, and how nice and accommodating the staff of Underwater Sports are. Like I mentioned in my previous review, I was having issues with certain skills and Rory has spent countless hours helping me be comfortable doing these skills and when it came down to performing the skills in front of Fred, he was just as excited as I was to complete them correctly. It makes me feel good knowing that my instructors are happy FOR me. I will definitely be coming back to them for future classes as well as all my scuba gear needs. Great place. Had my reg overhauled here. It took them a bit less than a week. Today I've also done a cold water orientation dive with Sadira. She's great! Very supportive, made me feel comfortable so now I'm not scared of going into cold water in a wet suit. Looking forward to diving with guys again! I went here when there were having a huge tent sale with many vendors. It was busy and I never even notices this place every time I drove by. I'm glad I noticed this tent dropped in and bought some stuff. Wish I was still working I would have gone all out and booked a trip bought all the gear and went all around the world on some of the vendor deals that were going on. Happy with the service and staff that helped me out with some of my items. Even security for the even were real cool about some of the questions about some spots around here. read more

I'll be heading to Cozumel later this month for diving and I wanted to get my open water certification. I was very apprehensive about learning how to scuba dive; it's something that I've always wanted to do, but never looked much into. At any rate, I signed up for an open water class with JP and Sadira. The first night, I was so nervous and I wanted to prove to myself that I would excel in the class, as I usually pride myself on being a fast learner. I was wrong and my nerves got the best of me. I misread a couple of the questions on the first quiz and rushed through it as I was eager to finish, so I had to retake it. Then, I was THAT kid that was behind the rest of the class and needed more one-on-one attention. I had trouble setting up my gear, felt super awkward in the confined pool sessions, and I remember leaving after the first night feeling very embarrassed and completely discouraged. i even wondered if diving would be for me and questioned coming back the second and third days. However, JP and Sadira were very supportive and encouraged me every step of the way. I also have to give a shoutout to the dive masters in the pool sessions, especially Matt and Kyle -- you guys were so awesome and patient with me! The both of them stuck with me through some of the more challenging skills and I really appreciated it. As I managed to work my way through the skills in the confined pool session, I'm confident that I'll do well in my open water referral in Cozumel. I'm definitely looking forward to doing a cold water orientation with Edmonds UWS when I get back. Also, many thanks for the underwater pictures during the confined pool sessions! The people that work here and teach the courses could not be more friendly, knowledgeable or down to earth. I recently moved out here and completed my refresher course and advanced diver certification through them. I won't use anyone else going forward, and they have made me want to keep going on my certifications. They make you feel safe while learning and having fun. They ensure you have all of the knowledge you need. You really can't ask for more. JP, Matt and Sadira are awesome. I just completed my open water certification with JP, Sadira and the rest of the crew at UWS Edmonds. I had a fantastic experience and highly recommend them. They have a fun, laid back but also very professional and safety minded style. I get the sense that the different UWS shops operate pretty independently, so don't assume you'll have the same experience elsewhere. Plus, they are the local dive shop for the underwater park and so have "home field advantage" when it comes to any information related to the park. read more

Underwater Sports has several locations (8 that I'm aware of), and the dive shop in Edmonds is conveniently located on Railroad Avenue, near the Edmonds-Kingston ferry terminal, an easy stroll from Brackett's Landing and the 27-acre underwater park and marine protected area. They provide excellent service, prompt air fills, as well as a good selection of reasonably priced equipment and accessories for purchase or rental. I haven't taken classes at this shop, but they are my support resource when my son and I dive at Edmonds UWP or at the oil dock, about three-eighths of a mile to the south. read more

I just finished my open water scuba diving certification through Underwater Sports. These guys are awesome! They keep a ratio of 2 students per 1 instructor/assistant instructor for all open water dives. This means that you get through your skills testing quickly and with as little waiting around as possible and then have more time to do fun stuff (like seeing an octopus - or 3!) All of the instructors & assistants are nice and knowledgeable and REALLY enthusiastic about diving. I came out of the class feeling confident in the skills done in the water and in the book learning portion and also enthused about diving. Rory was our main instructor and he was awesome - it's obvious that he loves diving and also loves teaching people to dive. He's also very patient (a big plus - this isn't the sort of thing that you can learn when feeling rushed.) He and the others at Edmonds UWS made learning to dive a really fun experience. Now, the water in Puget Sound isn't really warm anytime of the year, and doing our first day of diving on a cold, windy rainy November day kinda sucked. But, they had a tent, propane heater, chicken soup, cookies and hot chocolate for us between dives. So basically, they did everything possible to make it as tolerable (or even enjoyable) as they could. The second day was nicer weather and it was just plain awesomely fun! (I've talked to friends who've gone through certification programs elsewhere, and they were quite jealous when I mentioned this, and when I mentioned the 2:1 ratio!. From what I've heard, not many dive programs take care of their students this well.) BTW, I had a not-so-great experience at Underwater Sports in Seattle. I had initially signed up to take a class through them, but had to postpone due to illness and ended up rescheduling with Edmonds. When I called the Seattle store to postpone, they had no record of me having signed up for the class that was to start in 2 days, despite the fact that I had a receipt, had been in the store to pick up my packet and DVD and had spoken with someone about the class both over the phone and in person. The day after I transferred to the Edmonds class, someone from the Edmonds store called to let me know I needed to get sized for a wetsuit and I received an email with a class schedule. John and everyone else at the Edmonds store are super nice and friendly. Even though it was a bit longer of a drive for me, I am very glad that I went through the Edmonds UWS. read more

After taking several classes and buying a fair bit of gear through this shop, I would definitely recommend staying away. My Open Water class was fine, but the Advanced Open Water class was basically just ticking off the required boxes. The Deep Dive only went to 61', and we didn't do any of the activities from the book. The other dives were Wreck (basically just a fun dive at Edmonds Underwater Park), and Fish Identification (basically just a fun dive pointing at stuff). A friend took his AOW through the Seattle store, and had a much better experience. They also push very hard to get you through the classes. Everyone at the shop was really friendly when I did my OW, followed closely by AWO. However, when I wanted to slow down and not rush right into my Rescue class, I got the cold shoulder. When I brought my tanks in for fills, people hardly even acknowledge that I am there! I have started driving the extra 10 minutes to the Seattle shop for fills. They also keep a very small stock of items in the store, and push the brands that they sell very hard. read more

Wonderful dive masters and operation! JP and Sadira took our group out. I'm an Advanced Open Water / Nitrox diver with ~30-40 dives under my belt...BUT, all in Hawaii. :) It was time to do dry suit and get some Puget Sound time as I do live in Seattle. Both JP and Sadira helped me get set up and registered. When my schedule changed they very easily accommodated my last minute schedule swap. I got suited and all of my gear for cold water quickly and the dives were very nice. Both were energetic, knowledgable, focused, and detail oriented. I felt very comfortable under their guidance and they were patient when I struggled with re-learning my buoyancy control in a dry suit. I would HIGHLY recommend Underwater Sports Edmonds for any/all of your needs. Everyone I interacted with at the store was wonderful and very nice. But, since they took me out, I am the biggest fan of JP and Sadira for their style and knowledge. Great work! Keep it up!!!! I will certainly be seeing you all again soon. :) read more
