Unfortunately, our experience this time around was terrible -- I cannot in good faith recommend them anymore. Giving two stars (rather than one) because the work quality was very good. Subs did a great job, were friendly and cleaned up after themselves. In the end, we didn't go over budget. But we paid a lot of money and experienced a lot of unnecessary delay and drama. In short, our project was a victim of poor communication and lack of ownership taking responsibility. We went through four project managers: the first went MIA on us, delaying the demo start by 6 weeks; the second hadn't read any of the project briefing and let us to believe none of our materials had been ordered; the third was too busy with other projects to make ours a priority; and the fourth was brand new, didn't really know what he was doing, and wasn't getting the oversight he needed from leadership. To the company's credit, they didn't end up charging us for project management--as we'd been doing a big portion of it ourselves. Ultimately, a project that should've taken 8-10 weeks took 16 weeks (and that's after the 6-week-delayed start). The thing that was most frustrating was that while Dan was fairly responsive to our outreach when things were regularly going wrong, he was also regularly pretty dismissive of our concerns and didn't take responsibility for all of the mistakes and screw-ups that were the result of his team's failings--failing to read the brief; failing to install underfloor heating and electrical that was in the brief, resulting in ripping up tile that had just been laid; failing to inspect goods on arrival so that they could be replaced when broken without delaying the project; failing to tell us about budget implications of design choices, etc. Dan will say I was mad when things went wrong, and that some of those things were out of their control. Yes, I was mad. But mostly I was disappointed that I trusted this company, and they took advantage of that trust.

Our first encounter was with Elias, who thoroughly inspected and offered his expertise on design and what to expect. He was honest and didn't rush us or give us unreliable expectations. Initially, we just wanted a wood stove inserted into the "hole" where the old fireplace was. He kindly explained that this wasn't possible without dropping out the prefab FP, along with cutting out stone for proper clearance. Fast forward, Elias found that we had an old chimney to the left side of the unit that spanned from basement to third floor and out the roof. Long story short: in order to make this happen, we had to demolish the entire unit. We chose our stove and the flooring. Next appointment was demolition! Walks in Ben! This guy was the real deal! He was professional and courteous, but what we admired most was that he was honest! This wasn't the usual slam dunk job. Our house was built in 1980. Once demolished, we found all kinds of issues that needed addressing. The builder cut up the hardwood floor to meet the old FP, so there were odd gaps, the old side chimney was in the way! At first, Ben built out too far. We weren't happy. No worries! He came back, removed the frame and backing and built tightly around the chimney column. Throughout the entire process, they made certain all work was done to code! The initial quote never changed, even though wrenches were thrown in. What seemed like a nightmare, this company turned into a dream! They exceed our expectations and then some. I would highly recommend this company, as well as their employees and subs. He pointed out a couple of items that we needed to watch, and provided tips on types of wood that is appropriate to use.
