I have been wanting to learn more about the Atlanta history and food culture. I was so happy with our guide Jaimie! She was engaging, knowledgeable and took time to talk to each member of our group. She built a good rapport among the tour group people, where we each were sharing our impressions and thoughts about the food and the sites we were seeing. I spent my birthday weekend in Atlanta and this food walk was the last thing we had planned for the trip and I'm happy we ended the trip with it! The MLK walking tour with unexpected Atlanta was absolutely incredible - I could not say enough good things to describe how WOW'ed I was by the tour! Emily (our tour guide) was knowledgable about all things on the tour and any other tid bits you want to know about Atlanta. She was passionate about sharing all aspects of the stories of MLK and so many that influenced his trajectory and the history of that time period in Atlanta. Incredible experience! It would be great for tourists or locals. The historical information and stories throughout the tour is great and not stuff you've heard a lot before. Jennifer, our tour guide, has fun, energetic and engaged everyone in the group. The food was good, but it truly is a tasting, not too much food. The first two stops are Paschal's and Smoke Ring. These are bigger tastes and very good. Will definitely go back to both. Arden's Garden is next. You end at Sweet Auburn Curb Market. On Saturdays, you go to Panbury's and on Sundays you go to Grindhouse Killer Burgers. You also go to Just Add Honey, Metro Deli and Soul Food, and Miss D's Pralines. If you get to meet Miss D, it is a treat!! You also get a lot of great information about the food itself and the restaurants. I cannot recommend this experience enough. read more

My family just finished the Juneteenth + BBQ virtual tour and it was fantastic. We learned a lot we didn't know about Harriet Tubman, emancipation day celebrations, barbecue, and so much more. I do regret not booking the ATL Treat Box to go with it! Next time we will not make that same mistake. I have driven through Atlanta's neighborhoods but it is an entirely new experience to take the time to stroll through the streets and hear of the history from an accomplished storyteller like Kristin. She provided information and insights that brought the city to life. And then there was the food. This was a really nice tour. The walking was not bad, even with the Southern humidity! I enjoyed all the stops and the portions are actually huge! lol I couldn't eat at the last stop because I was so full! The guide, Joy, was great and told us a lot of interesting facts about the city. The only Downside was one of the stops was closed, but bring that it was a holiday weekend, it's not that unexpected. We liked one of the stops so much we went back the next day, which was great because they give you coupons for every stop so you can return with a discount. Also, I have a nut and seafood allergy and Joy went above and beyond in accommodating that and even paid for our uber ride back to our car. Overall, I highly recommend! read more

My husband and I live about an hour from Atlanta so we've been to visit many times, but have not ever participated in a food walk/tour. We had the best time! We walked and ate and laughed with new friends. The food was so good and by the end I literally could not eat anything else! In fact, Jeff and I didn't even eat supper! Kristin, our guide, was amazing! She was so knowledgeable and entertaining. Took the Grant Park Food tour with Margaret this past Saturday- it was sooo good (and mind you, I'm already an Atlanta resident). We are still raving about the food we tasted and how great of a tour guide we had. Definitely learned a lot, and it was fun despite being a rainy Saturday. Whether your a local or just visiting Atlanta you should totally do this tour. This was not only my first time in Atlanta, it was my first time visiting the South. When I travel anywhere, eating the local food is a must for me, so I knew I had to check out this tour. I also chose this specific tour (over other food tours) because they offered vegetarian options. I'm not a vegetarian, however I've been trying to eat less meat recently. I won't lie, I was a little worried how this would go, concerned that I might not get the full experience of trying southern food. Boy was I wrong! Akila was our guide and she had each place we visited prepare a meatless plate just for me.. and they were all AMAZING. And not once did I feel like I wasn't getting the full experience. What I loved most about this tour was not only the fact that Akila was super friendly and encouraged my love of The Walking Dead during the tour (after I had told her I was also in town for a Walking Dead Convention :b), but I absolutely loved that she took us to a variety of places, It never felt like you were repeating things. We hit places like the famous Paschal's Restaurant for some amazing soul food, a BBQ joint called the Smoke Ring that had the best mac n' cheese I've ever tasted, a seafood restaurant where I tried grits for the first time and it was soooo good, a really cute tea place called Just Add Honey where I was even able to purchase and bring home my own tea, a smoothie place that had some pretty amazing drinks and snacks, and the Curb Market where I tried hoecakes and banana pudding along with pecan pralines.. again, amazing. I also got to try moonshine (apple pie flavored of course) for the first time which was pretty delish. You never felt full either. Akila was able to balance the amount of food and walking just perfectly, with light tastings mixed in with slightly heavier tastings. She would also talk to us about the significance of the food we were eating, explain to us how or where it originated. During our walks she would also give us a bit of history on the city, but incorporating food into it as well. I had such an amazing time, Akila was super friendly and easy to talk to and hang out with during the tour. I can't wait to visit Atlanta again and actually go to some of these places to eat a full meal! Thank you again Akila for such an awesome experience! read more

The Grant Park tour was fantastic. Margaret definitely made the tour that much better! She was so knowledgeable and friendly and enthusiastic. It was easy to tell how much she cared about Atlanta's history and food, as well as our experience during the three hours we spent with her. We ate incredible food and learned some amazing history. It was a light and easy walk that showed the best and most important spots in Grant Park and Oakland Cemetery. This is a section of Atlanta that we would not have found ourselves in if it weren't for this tour, so I'm very glad we had this opportunity! The entire company (Margaret and Sarah especially) was very accommodating from the moment we found out about this tour until the very end. My husband and I did the Grant Park Atlanta Food Walk today with Ariel. While it is in the Neighborhood of Grant Park, don't expect a walk in The Park. Instead we were in some of the historic areas near Oakland Cemetery. Ive lived in the area 5 years but there was so much I didn't know. She made sure all of our expectations were met and took very good care to honor our food related request. Even though we do not drink the non alcoholic beverages were on point. Lauren's knowledge of Atlanta and Oakland Cemetery gave us insights about the rich history of the city. The Food Walk is so fun for tourists or locals. I was lucky enough to have enough time in Atlanta to enjoy not one but two food tours . This was my first food tour in Atlanta the day after I arrived and it didn't disappoint . I did a Thursday morning tour. We had about 10 people on the tour. I have done many food tours all over the USA and even one in Australia so I knew what to expect standard wise. This food tour has a lot of history and a fair amount of walking but the offerings are generous and true Southern Cuisine. If you want to experience true southern offerings book this tour. We got to try some awesome fried chicken, collard greens, BBQ, soul food, popcorn, pralines , bread pudding, sweet tea , meat pies and much more. I happened to be running late for the tour because my Uber driver couldn't find the meeting place. I was immediately called by the tour guide and the group made sure not to start without me which I greatly appreciated . At the start of the tour you are given a handout which lists the stops and places you will visit . There are also coupons to use for later in the tour Throughout the tour your guide will take photos of the group to send to you after the tour which I greatly appreciated . We had one gluten free guest on our tour as well as a female in a wheelchair and I was utterly impressed with how this company handled both. Asking questions was very easy and our guide gave us recommendations along the way. Our guide Alaina was super accommodating, friendly , and had a great personality . There was a good amount of food on this tour but my favorite stops were by far the BBQ place-Smoke Ring. The pork belly was to die for . The brisket was tender and flavorful and the overall winner was the Brunswick stew. I ventured on my own at this venue as well and tried out the jerky bar which I highly recommend . This tour was also very accommodating for those that don't drink or those that didn't care for a particular drink. I easily had my also,if drink substituted for a soda. It's little things like that which cater to the customer . My second favorite stop was the meat pies in which we had a steak and stout pie at the Municipal Market. It was flaky, meat perfectly seasoned , and overall great flavor. We got to meet the owner Adam who was just a sweetheart. My third favorite stop was because we got to meet the owner -MissD . She was so friendly, bubbly, and passionate about her popcorn and pralines. The love she showed our group was outstanding and her food was excellent. The popcorn will change the way you view popcorn ;) the pralines were better than the ones I have had in New Orleans. Her personality just radiates the room. Great southern food and vivid history brought to life in one walking tour! Atlanta's Southern Food Tour was our very first food tour as an Anniversary treat during Memorial Day weekend. Our guide extraordinaire, Jennifer, was very knowledgeable and kept us engaged as a group the entire time. Each stop on the tour had a memorable piece of history and Jennifer's use of vivid imagery really added to the entire experience.
